Together with Germans and Greeks, Italians have long been the most stubborn and steadfast of Europeans in their love of cash. … But then the pandemic hit, followed by the one of the longest and harshest lockdown policies on the planet. By the time the \u201csecond wave hit\u201d and another round of mass closures and self-isolation orders came to pass, countless Italians were stuck at home, forcing daily transactions online. And that\u2019s when the government hit, exploiting this lack of payment alternatives and the practical inability to use cash.<\/p>\n

The Cashback scheme\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

A new initiative was launched in December, just in time for the holiday shopping, offering a 10% cashback from the state to citizens who make their purchases with a card or smartphone. They just have to download and register with the government\u2019s own app and they can receive refunds of up to 150 euros. The scheme covers all kind of spending too, … the campaign was a raging success. More than 10% of the adult population signed up in the first couple of weeks and according to official data, the total value of reimbursements to be paid already exceeds 222.6 million euros.<\/p>\n

And that was just the pilot stage of the program. It will be fully operational and expanded starting in January 2021, with the updated list of refundable payments including car taxes, insurance, and fines. …<\/p>\n

For one thing, there is an obvious agenda behind the scheme, which is part of the government\u2019s broader \u201cItalia Cashless\u201d plan. … Privacy is a core concern, as is the loss of control over a citizen\u2019s own money. We\u2019ve seen just how aggressively this power can be wielded and abused by governments. Not in the distant past, but only a few years ago, and not in some far away developing nation, but in EU member-states, we witnessed citizens being denied access to their own deposits. …<\/p>\n

The Cashless Society Will Lead To Chaos<\/h2>\n

The cashless society is almost here and it could lead to chaos and violence. Furthermore, many Americans could soon have no way to pay for necessities like food.<\/p>\n

Poor people could have no way to buy food because they have no credit cards or smartphones. To elaborate, Big Retail is planning to get rid of cash registers and cashiers to save money.<\/p>\n

In fact, Amazon is already operating 10 Go automated convenience stores<\/a> that have no cash registers or cashiers, Grocery Business <\/em>reports. Instead of cash, customers pay with digital wallets such as Apple Pay or Google Pay at Amazon Go. Moreover, Amazon<\/a> plans to open up to 3,000 go stores by 2021, Bloomberg claims.<\/p>\n

Big Retail Wants The Cashless Society<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Big Retail wants the cashless society because it reduces expenses. For instance, Amazon does not pay cashiers at their Go stores.<\/p>\n

In addition, Amazon needs less security at Go because there is no cash for armed robbers to take. Big Retail can also eliminate the expense of counting, storing, and hauling cash. After all, no safe, armored car, or armed guards are necessary when a store refuses to accept cash.<\/p>\n

All in all, most of us are already living in a cashless society. For example, Americans used cash<\/a> for only 30% of their transactions in 2018, The Federal Reserve estimates. …<\/p>\n

Get Ready For The Cashless Society And Chaos<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Everybody needs to prepare for the cashless society because it is coming fast. Moreover, events overseas show that you will have no choice but to go cashless.<\/p>\n
