Herbert W. Armstrong would have been 115 today.\u00a0 This morning, the anti-COG Ambassador Watch<\/em>site reminded everyone that Herbert Armstrong was born on July 31, 1892.\u00a0 The webmaster (Gavin Rumney) then essentially satirically attacked his memory.<\/p>\n

But more offensive were several comments made by his readers, many of whom apparently believe the misinformation and much of the false information about him and spread this misinformation as fact.<\/p>\n

They repeat false and discredited sources to justify their disrespect of Herbert Armstrong.<\/p>\n

Even though\u00a0we in the COGs generally do not celebrate birthdays (see also the article Did Early Christians Celebrate Birthdays?<\/a>), I felt since HWA is once again being maligned, that it would again be a good time to remind people that although Herbert Armstrong was a fallible human being, that most of the accusations and charges that anti-COG types seem to like to relish about him are false.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Those interested in the truth about the oft repeated accusations against HWA on the internet can read the article 15 Accusations and Truthful Responses About Herbert Armstrong<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But I do not want to focus on that.<\/p>\n

The truth is that God used Herbert Armstrong to restore much truth to the\u00a0true Church of God.\u00a0 Over the decades that I have been associated with the Church\u00a0of God, I have repeatedly\u00a0found both biblical as well as historical proof that the truths that were restored were in fact true.\u00a0 And in fact, the early church did teach them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One day I may put together a single article showing that early professors of Christ did teach these truths.\u00a0 For now, however, I would refer readers to the following two articles:<\/p>\n

Did You Know What the First Changes the Tkach Administration Made?<\/a>Some have said healing, others other subjects, but probably the first change had to do with eliminating being part of the Philadelphia era. This article documents what those changes were and compares the Tkach list of restored truths to HWA’s list of restored truths. It contains many quotes from HWA.
\nHistory of Early Christianity<\/a> Are you aware that what most people believe is not what truly happened to the true Christian church?\u00a0 This page\u00a0has articles documenting\u00a0many beliefs of the early Church–and all these are doctrines that HWA taught.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Furthermore, while Protestants like to point to leaders like Martin Luther and John Calvin, the truth is that unlike them, Herbert Armstrong was not involved in getting people killed.\u00a0 The same is true about many Roman Catholic<\/a> Popes who instituted persecutions in forms such as the Inquisition.\u00a0 Some information on what those non-COG leaders have done to\u00a0others throughout history may be found in the article Persecutions by Church and State<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Another\u00a0difference between Martin Luther, John Calvin,\u00a0Eastern Orthodox leaders, and Roman Catholic Popes vs.\u00a0Herbert Armstrong is that HWA actually did teach sola\u00a0Scriptura<\/em>.\u00a0 He clearly taught what the Bible taught, yet the other\u00a0churches have all demonstrated their\u00a0preference for tradition over what the Bible actually teaches.\u00a0 Articles that document that would include:<\/p>\n

Sola Scriptura <\/em>or Prima Luther? <\/em>What Did Martin Luther Really Believe About the Bible?<\/a> Though he is known for his public sola Scriptura <\/em>teaching, Martin Luther’s writings about the Bible suggest he felt that prima Luther<\/em> was his ultimate authority.
\nThe Similarities and Dissimilarities between Martin Luther and Herbert Armstrong<\/a> This article clearly shows some of the doctrinal differences between in the two. At this time of doctrinal variety and a tendency by many to accept certain aspects of Protestantism, the article should help clarify why the COG is NOT Protestant.
\nWhich Is Faithful: The Roman Catholic Church or the Church of God?<\/a> Do you know that both groups shared a lot of the earliest teachings? Do you know which church changed? Do you know which group is most faithful to the teachings of the apostolic church? This documented article answers those questions.
