The Temple Institute had the following in its newsletter today:<\/p>\n

Avraham avinu<\/em>\u00a0(Abraham our father) never shied away from a challenge. From G-d’s first words to\u00a0Avraham, “Lech lecha – go to yourself – to the land that I will show you…”<\/em>\u00a0(Genesis 12:1)\u00a0Avraham<\/em>\u00a0was in, all the way – fully committed to his new found relationship with HaShem. Nor was\u00a0Avraham<\/em>\u00a0adverse to questioning G-d: Will I and my barren wife\u00a0Sara<\/em>\u00a0ever be blessed with the child that you have promised me? Will a great nation ever emerge from my loins? In this week’s Torah reading,\u00a0Vayera, Avraham<\/em>, still recovering from his circumcision, graciously welcomes to his tent three wayfarers, little suspecting that they are angels, messengers from G-d with the long awaited tidings that barren and elderly Sara would, indeed, give birth to a son – whose name,\u00a0Yitzchak<\/em>\u00a0– laughter – would be a memorial to the elderly couple’s joyful (and skeptical) receiving of the good news. No sooner than the three guests departed from\u00a0Avraham<\/em>\u00a0than he successfully, with profound humility and untold courage, negotiated with G-d the issue of Divine justice to be meted out to the iniquitous dwellers of the city of Sodom.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Here is some of what the Old Testament says about that:<\/p>\n

1 Now the Lord had said to Abram:<\/p>\n

“Get out of your country,
\nFrom your family
\nAnd from your father’s house,
\nTo a land that I will show you.
\n2 I will make you a great nation;
\nI will bless you
\nAnd make your name great;
\nAnd you shall be a blessing.
\n3 I will bless those who bless you,
\nAnd I will curse him who curses you;
\nAnd in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”<\/p>\n

4 So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5 Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan. 6 Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, as far as the terebinth tree of Moreh. And the Canaanites were then in the land.<\/p>\n

7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. 9 So Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South. (Genesis 12:1-9)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Here is some of what the New Testament says about that:<\/p>\n

18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe \u2014 and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. (James 2:18-24)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Many have confused believing that there is a God with faith. It does NOT take faith to believe that there is a God.<\/p>\n

The existence of a supernatural being can be clearly seen:<\/p>\n

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, (Romans 1:20)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A Lifegiver or Spontaneous Evolution?<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

Did life just spring up on its own? Is this possible according to a Nobel-prize winning scientist who believes in \u2018spontaneous generation\u2019 and other aspects of evolution? Is there any possibility that life could have just started on its own and thrived to the point of being able to reproduce? Is the academic community biased against those who believe in a Divine Creator God? Does it make scientific sense to believe in the atheistic position? Is there more proof of God\u2019s existence than there is for \u2018spontaneous generation\u2019? What about DNA and Charles Darwin? What about the RNA first hypothesis? What about matter, entropy, biogenesis, and abiogenesis? Is evolution possible, probable, or impossible? Evolution is NOT the Origin of Life<\/a><\/h3>\n

Is the evolutionary explanation of spontaneous generation, also known as abiogenesis, possibly the origin of life? What about the Drake equation and the Fermi paradox? Does mathematics support the view that RNA. Did RNA come from something alive or did the first living organism come from non-living RNA? Do proteins and DNA need to be present together for cells to work? Did Nobel prize-winning scientist Dr. George Wald admit that spontaneous generation of life is impossible? Have various scientists concluded that \u201cintelligent design\u201d or some type of spiritual \u201ccreator\u201d produce the first life? Is Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson\u2019s assertion that evolution is just as proven as gravity true? Did Charles Darwin admit that many were making a religion out of things he speculated? Did Darwin teach his theory on the origin of life would break down if cells were more complicated than he thought? Is there \u201cknowledge falsely called science\u201d? What did Jesus say was \u201ctruth\u201d? Do human beings all share the same blood according to the Bible and scientists? Do many claimed scientists accept myths and call the myths science? Is it logical to believe that God created life as shown in the book of Genesis in the 21st century?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Getting back to Abraham.<\/p>\n

He and his family left the comforts of the world at that time. They faced difficulties and challenges as can be read in chapters 12 through 25 of Genesis.<\/p>\n

But, he did not give up. He did not go back to the wealthy life with the then ‘modern comforts.’<\/p>\n

He did not only believe in God, Abraham believed God and lived where and how God taught him.<\/p>\n

Because of that, God blessed him:<\/p>\n

2 Then the Lord appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. 3 Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. 4 And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; 5 because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.” (Genesis 26:2-5)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Abraham was willing to live by faith in God and His ways.<\/p>\n

The Apostle Paul wrote that Christians are the seed of Abraham:<\/p>\n

29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:29)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

To be Christ’s and the seed of Abraham requires more than believing that there is a God.<\/p>\n

The demons believe that there is a God and Jesus is His Son.<\/p>\n

Real faith involves living as God would have you do.<\/p>\n

Abraham did so. Will you?<\/p>\n
