COGwriter<\/a><\/p>\n Ecumenical News<\/em> reported the following:<\/p>\n Six United States Congress members have written an open letter demanding action against Finland for criminalizing Christianity through its hate crimes laws used against people supporting traditional marriage between a man and a woman.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Prosecutors in Finland are pressing charges against the Protestant bishop and the member of the national Parliament for publicly stating what the Bible teaches about sex and marriage, The Federalist reported <\/a>on Nov. 10.<\/p>\n Bishop Juhana Pohjola and Parliament member Paivi Rasanen, a former cabinet minister, face fines and could go to prison for up to two years in prison under “hate crimes” laws that are said to effectively criminalize speech.<\/p>\n The magazine commented that the charges “set the government up as the arbiter of what religious beliefs are legal in Finland.”<\/p>\n BIBLE VERSE ON TWITTER<\/strong><\/p>\n One of the charges against Rasanen is the alleged crime of posting a Bible verse on Twitter.<\/p>\n Rasanen and Pohjola have each faced hours of questioning by Finnish officials for stating beliefs that Christians have held for thousands of years said the magazzine.<\/p>\n They will stand trial in January.<\/p>\n Pohjola is the bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission Diocese of Finland.<\/p>\n The hate crimes he faces came after he published a 2004 booklet written by Rasanen about the Bible’s teachings about sex and marriage.<\/p>\n Years after the publication of that booklet, Finland passed laws creating legal privileges for LGBT citizens, under which the two Christians are now being accused of “incitement against a group of people.”<\/p>\n “Free people should not have to violate and recant their deepest convictions to remain part of a free society,” the U.S. lawmakers wrote. …<\/p>\n RESPONSE TO LETTER<\/strong><\/p>\n In response to their letter, Finnish state prosecutor Anu Mantila told Christian Today<\/a>\u00a0that freedom of expression and freedom of religion “are not unlimited.”<\/p>\n “We don’t accept any kind of pressure against the independent National Prosecutor Authority and the Prosecutor General of Finland,” she said.<\/p>\n She noted, “We emphasize that charges against Mrs R\u00e4s\u00e4nen and Mr Pohjola concern hate speech, which is insulting, degrading and violates dignity of homosexuals. 11\/13\/21 https:\/\/www.ecumenicalnews.com\/article\/six-us-congress-members-call-for-sanctions-against-finland-for-violating-religious-liberty\/60941.htm<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Freedom of religion and freedom of speech restrictions are happening in the so-called ‘free’ nations of the West. Are various ones in governmental positions suggesting banning at least parts of the Bible (including those that show homosexuals can change)? Is believing the New Testament considered to be a bigger problem of prejudice than racial views? Does Big Tech (like YouTube) rely more on their \u2018community standards\u201d instead of the Bible? Is a famine of the word coming according to Amos and might that involve the internet? Should we call out sins, but be wise as to how, when, and where according to scripture?
