Many of the fires are affecting popular tourist destinations that were just starting to recover from slow business during the pandemic. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/record-heat-triggers-wildfires-across-southern-europe\/av-62501620\">https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/record-heat-triggers-wildfires-across-southern-europe\/av-62501620<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"el__leafmedia el__leafmedia--sourced-paragraph\">17 July 2022<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__read-all\">\n<div data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_3DEE7ECF-7ADA-2808-0DC6-4468C87421B7\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_5\">\n<div data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_E72C766A-BECD-3962-CAC9-4468C88C942D\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_27\">\n<p>Countries across Europe are bracing themselves for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/heatwave-scorches-europe\/a-62455363\">a sweltering wave of heat<\/a> over the next week, with mercury bulbs in some regions expected to register record temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>In Spain, where temperatures have already spiked at 46C (115F), authorities have warned of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/how-sunlight-and-heat-affect-our-health\/a-62468743\">health risks<\/a> resulting from exposure to extreme heat, and urged people to stick to shaded or air-conditioned spaces and drink copious amounts of water.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is affecting large parts of Europe and it will intensify,&#8221; World Meteorological Organization spokesperson Clare Nullis told a press briefing in Geneva &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The intense heat is drying out riverbeds across Europe &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/how-can-europe-adapt-to-extreme-heat\/a-62472306\">https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/how-can-europe-adapt-to-extreme-heat\/a-62472306<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The flow of commodities to inland Europe is starting to buckle as water levels on the Rhine river continue to fall.<\/p>\n<p>The lack of water is contributing to oil product supply problems\u00a0<a class=\"terminal-news-story\" title=\"Low Rhine Water Levels Pressuring Switzerland\u2019s Diesel Supply\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/terminal\/RF2314T0G1KW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in Switzerland<\/a>\u00a0and preventing at least\u00a0<a title=\"Two German Power Plants Struggle to Get Coal on Shallow Rhine\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-07-13\/two-german-power-plants-struggle-to-get-coal-on-shallow-rhine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">two power plants<\/a> in Germany from getting all the coal they need. What\u2019s more, the continent\u2019s sizzling summer temperatures are forecast to climb even higher in the coming week.<\/p>\n<p>The roughly 800-mile (1,288-kilometer) Rhine river\u00a0<a title=\"Low Rhine Water Levels Risk Worsening Europe\u2019s Energy Crunch\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-07-08\/low-rhine-water-levels-risk-worsening-europe-s-energy-crunch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">runs from<\/a> Switzerland to the North Sea and is used to transport tens of millions of tons of commodities through inland Europe. Water levels are at their lowest for the time of year since at least 2007, according to government data, limiting how much fuel, coal and other vital cargo that barges can carry up and down the river. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-07-15\/lack-of-water-in-europe-s-most-important-river-starts-to-bite\">https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-07-15\/lack-of-water-in-europe-s-most-important-river-starts-to-bite<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Irrespective of how one views the climate and weather, the Bible shows that sin causes problems and facts demonstrate that we have had severe weather.<\/p>\n<p>Weather and climate are affecting Europe and its economy.<\/p>\n<p>So, also, is its energy policies and sanctions against Russia.<\/p>\n<p>But now notice the following about Europe:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"entry-title small\">Germany won\u2019t survive winter without Russian gas<\/h2>\n<p>July 17, 2022<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Germany\u2019s Bild am Sonntag, published on Sunday, Klaus Muller warned that while \u201c<em>gas reservoirs are nearly 65% full,<\/em>\u201d and \u201c<em>it\u2019s better than in the previous weeks<\/em>\u201d it is still not sufficient to \u201c<em>go through the winter without Russian gas.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Muller, who is president of Germany\u2019s Federal Network Agency, added that much now depends on whether maintenance work on the Nord Stream 1 pipeline concludes as expected on Thursday. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of Russia\u2019s offensive against Ukraine, gas prices in Europe have soared, reaching an all-time-high of over $3,600 per 1,000 cubic meters in early March.<\/p>\n<p>While Ukraine and some other Eastern-European nations, including Poland, have been calling on the EU to ban imports of Russian gas, Brussels has so far stopped short of implementing the measure due to a lack of consensus among member states.<\/p>\n<p>German government officials and industry representatives have repeatedly warned that a stoppage of Russian gas supplies would deal a huge blow to the economy.<\/p>\n<p>In late June, Economy Minister Robert Habeck activated the second phase of Germany\u2019s three-stage emergency gas plan. It came as Russia slashed supplies via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, blaming the lack of a turbine, stuck in Canada due to sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Russia began regular maintenance work on the pipeline, meaning no gas was flowing to Germany at all. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newswars.com\/germany-wont-survive-winter-without-russian-gas-official\/\">https:\/\/www.newswars.com\/germany-wont-survive-winter-without-russian-gas-official\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One pundit called Friday a \u2018Doomsday scenario, if Russia cuts off all gas on July 22,\u2019 by no longer sending fuel through Nord Stream 1 (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/news\/prophecy\/euro-dollar-parity-europe-at-risk-for-social-unrest\/\">Euro dollar parity, Europe at risk for social unrest, \u2018Doomsday scenario\u2019?<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Europe is facing many risks and pressures. Eventually, it will reorganize and be controlled by one the Bible calls &#8220;the beast&#8221; (e.g. Revelation 17:12-13; see also <span class=\"style17\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/ten-kings.htm\">Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?<\/a><\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>Severe weather is affecting Europe as well as many other nations around the world.<\/p>\n<p>As regular readers of this page are aware, I have repeatedly warned of weather problems coming. It may be a period of chaos. Does God promise good weather for obedience and warn of fire and other weather problems for disobedience? Is what has been happening consistent with the beginning of sorrows and troubles Jesus spoke about? Is worse heat coming according to Bible prophecy? What about sin and repentance? Does the United Nations have the answer? What about the good news of the Kingdom of God? (Amos 3:6-7)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Bible tells of weather-related blessings for obedience and weather-related curses for disobedience. Weather is not as random as many people seem to want to believe.<\/p>\n<p>The Bible warns that God uses weather to send a message. Sometimes God uses drought and then sometimes sends mildew if people will not turn to Him as the following show:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>7 &#8220;I also withheld rain from you,<br \/>\nWhen there were still three months to the harvest.<br \/>\nI made it rain on one city,<br \/>\nI withheld rain from another city.<br \/>\nOne part was rained upon,<br \/>\nAnd where it did not rain the part withered.<br \/>\n8 So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water,<br \/>\nBut they were not satisfied;<br \/>\nYet you have not returned to Me,&#8221;<br \/>\nSays the Lord.<\/p>\n<p>9 &#8220;I blasted you with blight and mildew.<br \/>\nWhen your gardens increased,<br \/>\nYour vineyards,<br \/>\nYour fig trees,<br \/>\nAnd your olive trees,<br \/>\nThe locust devoured them;<br \/>\nYet you have not returned to Me,&#8221;<br \/>\nSays the Lord. (Job 36:26-33)<\/p>\n<p>25 For He commands and raises the stormy wind, Which lifts up the waves of the sea. 26 They mount up to the heavens, They go down again to the depths; Their soul melts because of trouble. 27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, And are at their wits&#8217; end. 28 Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses. 29 He calms the storm, So that its waves are still. 30 Then they are glad because they are quiet; So He guides them to their desired haven. 31 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! 32 Let them exalt Him also in the assembly of the people, And praise Him in the company of the elders. 33 He turns rivers into a wilderness, And the watersprings into dry ground; 34 A fruitful land into barrenness, For the wickedness of those who dwell in it. 35 He turns a wilderness into pools of water, And dry land into watersprings. 36 There He makes the hungry dwell, That they may establish a city for a dwelling place, 37 And sow fields and plant vineyards, That they may yield a fruitful harvest. 38 He also blesses them, and they multiply greatly; And He does not let their cattle decrease. (Psalms 107:25-38)<\/p>\n<p>17 He casts out His hail like morsels;<br \/>\nWho can stand before His cold?<br \/>\n18 He sends out His word and melts them;<br \/>\nHe causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow. (Psalms 147:17-18)<\/p>\n<p>3 He sends it forth under the whole heaven, His lightning to the ends of the earth. 4 After it a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice, And He does not restrain them when His voice is heard. 5 God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things which we cannot comprehend. 6 For He says to the snow, &#8216;Fall on the earth&#8217;; Likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength. 7 He seals the hand of every man, That all men may know His work. 8 The beasts go into dens, And remain in their lairs. 9 From the chamber of the south comes the whirlwind, And cold from the scattering winds of the north. 10 By the breath of God ice is given, And the broad waters are frozen. 11 Also with moisture He saturates the thick clouds; He scatters His bright clouds. 12 And they swirl about, being turned by His guidance, That they may do whatever He commands them On the face of the whole earth. 13 He causes it to come, Whether for correction, Or for His land, Or for mercy. (Job 37:3-13)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>God controls the weather. As the Book of Job records above, weather is sometimes used by God for correction.<\/p>\n<p>Weather is not as random as most seem to want to believe.<\/p>\n<p>What about high heat?<\/p>\n<p>The Bible shows that it will get much worse later:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. (Revelation 16:8-9)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But, the above prophecy is for several years into the future&#8211;we are not too near that yet. But I believe that this will happen in the 21st century.<\/p>\n<p>The Bible shows:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>30 God &#8230; commands all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And weather problems are one tool that God uses to urge people to repent (cf. Haggai 2:17; Amos 4:7-12). But most will not. Nor will most Christians as they should (cf. Revelation 3:14-18; see also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/laodiceachurch.htm\">The Laodicean Church Era<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Most will ignore weather changes and simply believe that weather changes all the time and the changes do not have to do with God or disobeying His laws.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the Bible shows that weird, severe, and odd weather patterns are part of the warning messages that God gives.<\/p>\n<p>Are you paying attention to those messages?<\/p>\n<p><em>Some items of interest may include the following:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cogwriter.com\/weather-sorrows.htm\">Weather Blessings and Sorrows<\/a> Are weather problems a warning?
