The European Union continues to show its steps towards additional censorship. Notice the following:<\/p>\n

The EU Just Declared War On Free Speech In America. It Is Time To Fight Back…<\/h2>\n

One of the greatest threats to free speech today is the European Digital Services Act. The act bars speech that is viewed as \u201cdisinformation\u201d or \u201cincitement.\u201d European Commission Executive Vice President\u00a0Margrethe Vestager\u00a0<\/a><\/span>celebrated its passage by declaring that it is \u201cnot a slogan anymore, that what is illegal offline should also be seen and dealt with as illegal online. Now it is a real thing. Democracy\u2019s back.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Europe, free speech is in free fall. Germany, France, the United Kingdom and other countries have eviscerated free speech by criminalizing speech deemed inciteful or degrading to individuals or groups. The result had made little difference to the neo-Nazi movement in countries like Germany, which is reaching record numbers. It has, however, silenced the rest of society.<\/p>\n

According to polling, only 18 percent of Germans feel free to express their opinions in public. Fifty-nine percent of Germans do not even feel free expressing themselves in private among friends. Only 17 percent feel free to express themselves on the internet.<\/p>\n

They have silenced the wrong people, but there is now a massive censorship bureaucracy in Europe and the desire to silence opposing voices has become insatiable.<\/p>\n

Some in this country have the same taste for speech-regulation. After\u00a0Elon Musk\u00a0<\/a><\/span>bought Twitter and dismantled most of the company\u2019s censorship program, many on the left went bonkers. That fury only increased when Musk released the \u201cTwitter files,\u201d confirming the long-denied coordination and support by the government in targeting and suppressing speech.<\/p>\n

In response,\u00a0Hillary Clinton and other Democratic figures<\/a>\u00a0turned to Europe and called upon them to use their Digital Services Act to force censorship against Americans.<\/p>\n

The EU immediately responded by threatening Musk with confiscatory penalties against not just his company but himself. He would have to resume massive censorship or else face ruin.<\/p>\n

It was a case of the irresistible force meeting the immovable object. The anti-free speech movement had finally found the one man who could not be bullied, coerced or threatened into submission.<\/p>\n

Musk\u2019s defiance has only magnified the unrelenting attacks against him in the media, academia and government. If Musk can be broken, these figures will once again exercise effective control over a large swath of speech globally.<\/p>\n

This campaign recently came to a head when Musk had the audacity to interview former president Donald Trump. In anticipation of the interview, one of the most notorious anti-free speech figures in the world went ballistic.<\/p>\n

European Commissioner for Internal Markets and Services Thierry Breton\u00a0issued a threatening message\u00a0to Musk, \u201cWe are monitoring the potential risks in the EU associated with the dissemination of content that may incite violence, hate and racism in conjunction with major political \u2014 or societal \u2014 events around the world, including debates and interviews in the context of elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

While offering a passing nod to the freedom of speech, he warned Musk that \u201call proportionate and effective mitigation measures are put in place regarding the amplification of\u00a0harmful content<\/u><\/a>\u00a0in connection with relevant events.\u201d In other words, be afraid, be very afraid.<\/p>\n

Musk responded with \u201cBonjour!\u201d\u00a0and then suggested that Breton perform a physically challenging sexual act.<\/p>\n

To recap, the EU is now moving to force censorship upon American citizens to meet its own demands of what is false, demeaning or inciting. And that includes censorship even of our leading political candidates for the presidency.<\/p>\n

The response from the Biden administration was not a presidential statement warning any foreign government from seeking to limit our rights or even Secretary of State Antony Blinken calling the EU ambassador to his office for an expression of displeasure.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because Biden and Harris are not displeased with but supportive of letting the EU do what they are barred from doing under our Constitution. https:\/\/jonathanturley.org\/2024\/08\/19\/the-eu-just-declared-war-on-free-speech-in-america-it-is-time-to-fight-back\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While some think speech restrictions cannot come to the USA, Facebook is a USA-based company. Notice, also, some things related to Tim Walz, who is expected to officially accept the Democratic party’s vice presidential nomination today:<\/p>\n

Conservatives on social media did manage to dig up<\/a> an old clip of Walz making an alarming and false claim: “There’s no guarantee to free speech on misinformation or hate speech, and especially around our democracy.”<\/p>\n

Walz is wrong, of course: The First Amendment, which vigorously protects Americans’ free speech rights, does not distinguish between good information and misinformation. Moreover, so-called hate speech\u2014an arbitrary category, as different people find different sorts of speech to be hateful\u2014is quite obviously protected. …<\/p>\n

Here is a rough transcript of Walz’s response to a question from MSNBC about trying to trick people into not voting, or voting incorrectly.<\/p>\n

“Years ago, it was the little things: telling people to vote the day after the election, and we kind of brushed them off. Now, we know it’s intimidation at the ballot box. It’s undermining the idea that mail-in ballots aren’t legal. I think we need to push back on this. There’s no guarantee to free speech on misinformation or hate speech, and especially around our democracy.<\/strong> Tell the truth, where the voting places are, who can vote, who’s able to be there. Watching some states continue to weaken the protections around the ballot I think is what’s inspiring us to lean into this. Again, all we’re asking is to make it as easy and simple as possible to exercise their right to vote and participate in our democracy. I’m in 100 percent agreement with you. That makes it so that more people are there, you get more opinions brought in, and I think it tempers [those] extremes that we get. Again, I can’t imagine someone going and standing in line for eight hours to try and vote and then being told that maybe the votes didn’t count or maybe something’s wrong. You have these candidates who lose and are on these ridiculous court cases that they keep bringing up and losing on.” …<\/p>\n

This is why Walz’s misunderstanding about misinformation is important. With the Supreme Court having declined to prohibit federal agencies from jawboning<\/a> social media companies, the next administration will have a relatively free hand to escalate the government’s pressure campaign on disinformation. It’s not an encouraging sign that the would-be Democratic vice president is fundamentally mistaken on a vital tenet of the country’s free speech tradition. Maybe dad should learn something about the First Amendment? https:\/\/reason.com\/2024\/08\/08\/tim-walz-was-dead-wrong-about-misinformation-and-free-speech\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Two thoughts:<\/p>\n

[1.] Walz was quite wrong in saying that “There’s no guarantee to free speech” as to “hate speech<\/strong>.” The Supreme Court has made clear that there is no “hate speech” exception to the First Amendment<\/a> (and see here<\/a> for more details). The First Amendment generally protects the views that the government would label “hateful” as much as it protects other views.<\/span><\/p>\n

[2.] As to “misinformation,” the matter is much more complicated. Sometimes misinformation, especially deliberate misinformation, is constitutionally punishable: Consider libel, false state\u00adments to government investigators, fraudulent charitable fundraising, and more. (For more details on all these points, and citations, see When Are Lies Constitutionally Protected?<\/i><\/a>.) But sometimes even deliberate lies are constitutionally protected. In New York Times v. Sullivan<\/em> (1964), the Court held that even deliberate lies (said with “actual malice”) about the government are constitutionally protected. And in\u00a0United States v. Alvarez <\/em>(2012), five of the justices agreed that lies “about philosophy, religion, history, the social sciences, the arts, and the like” are generally protected. https:\/\/reason.com\/volokh\/2024\/08\/08\/vp-candidate-tim-walz-on-theres-no-guarantee-to-free-speech-on-misinformation-or-hate-speech-and-especially-around-our-democracy\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Biden-Harris & Hate Speech<\/a><\/h3>\n

Joe Biden has stated he would create a task force to deal with online threats and extremism. What does the first amendment, part of the Bill of Rights, to the US Constitution say? Is the Biden-Harris team committed to \u201cadvance LGBTQ+ equality in America\u201d? Has the Biden-Harris campaign posted that giving more religious freedom is \u201chate against LGBTQ+ individuals\u201d? What is the so-called \u201cEquality Act\u201d all about? Could Kamala Harris be more strident about this than even Joe Biden? Has the Biden-Harris teams appointed Richard Stengel to help deal with speech and communications and has Stengel called for the elimination of more aspects of free speech? Might he consider it wrong to quote scriptures that might be considered as \u201cinsults\u201d by those opposed to biblical sexual morality? What about Canada\u2019s position on some of this? Are various ones in governmental positions suggesting banning at least parts of the Bible (including those that show homosexuals can change)? Is believing the New Testament considered to be a bigger problem of prejudice than racial views? Does Big Tech (like YouTube) rely more on their \u2018community standards\u201d instead of the Bible? Is a famine of the word coming according to Amos and might that involve the internet? Should we call out sins, but be wise as to how, when, and where according to scripture? Where will the fake news ultimately lead to per 1 Thessalonians 5:2? Are Harris-Biden views promoting hate against those who hold to aspects of biblical morality?<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

3. Media, Internet, and Other Censorship\u00a0 …<\/h2>\n

The labeling of things as ‘extremism’ is gaining so much traction that those that do it seem to think that it is normal to label whatever they are not comfortable with as extreme.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Expect more biblically-proper views to be categorized as extremists by more in the media and society.<\/p>\n

Even connecting world events to biblical prophetic writings has triggered censorship.<\/p>\n

Why stay on platforms like YouTube (which has censored and shadow-banned us), Twitter, and Vimeo (which has censored us) then?<\/p>\n

Because they still, usually, are open doors for us to reach people.<\/p>\n

We have had a couple of million views on YouTube and still, overall get about a couple thousand views of our videos each week.<\/p>\n

YouTube is, overall, more effective than our other video platforms–but it is not reaching as well as it once did because of YouTube’s selective anti-biblical censorship and shadow-banning (which Google, who owns YouTube, also does)..<\/p>\n

Furthermore, notice that he Bible teaches:<\/p>\n

\n

1 Cry aloud, spare not; Lift up your voice like a trumpet; Tell My people their transgression, And the house of Jacob their sins. (Isaiah 58:1)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Yet, if some are insulted because their sins are called out, various ones want to stifle religious speech!<\/p>\n

And this is in places like the USA, Canada, and Europe.<\/p>\n

And it is not just the USA that is supporting restricting And yes, we realize that more censorship is expected.<\/p>\n

Was loss of freedom of free speech and of the press prophesied?<\/p>\n

Back in 1981, the old Worldwide Church of God correctly pointed out that it was:<\/p>\n

\n

THE MOST important work in the world cannot be done without freedom of the press!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

What is that work?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

It is the work of announcing that God will restore His Government to the whole earth! But before the Government of God is restored, it must first be announced! The good news of that announcement \u2014 the Gospel of the Kingdom of God \u2014 must be preached (Matthew 24:14) to all nations (Matthew 28:19). And the nations must choose whether they will want it or resist it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

In this day, God has made the MASS media available to accomplish His work. But reaching a mass audience with the good news of God\u2019s soon-coming Government requires the freedom to PUBLISH. Notice Mark 13:10: \u201cAnd the gospel must first be published among all nations.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Further, God lays a special duty on his messenger and Church to publicly disseminate certain warnings to certain nations. Ezekiel 33:1-7 describes God\u2019s charge upon the watchman. When the watchman sees \u201cthe sword\u201d come upon the land \u2014 a prophetic symbol of military devastation \u2014 he must \u201cblow the trumpet\u201d or God will hold him personally responsible. …<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Governmental Reaction<\/strong><\/p>\n

And yet while the Bible places a duty on God\u2019s servants, it also warns that this world \u2014 even now and in the future \u2014 will not always allow the freedom to publish.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

In the past a government\u2019s excuse for persecution was that God\u2019s message IS TOO DISTURBING to be allowed to circulate freely. …<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

In the New Testament, the authorities tried to prevent the apostles from preaching the Gospel. The apostles were forcibly brought before the council. The high priest asked them: \u201cDid not we straightly command you that you should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine\u2026\u201d (Acts 5:28).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

In other words, the civil and religious authorities were seeking to regulate the content of their message!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

In response, the apostle Peter declared the firm rule that \u201cwe ought to obey God rather than men\u201d (verse 29). Since Peter and company had a God-ordained duty to say what they were saying, the commands of the civil government of Jerusalem were in direct conflict with God\u2019s.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

For the future, the Bible prophecy reveals that the time will come when most of this world\u2019s nations will be led by Satan to abolish freedom of the press \u2014 and all related freedoms. Why? To prevent any publishing of God\u2019s message from reaching any substantial number of people!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

`Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: and they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it\u201d (Amos 8:11-12).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Elsewhere the Bible reveals how this prophesied press clampdown will take place. Revelation 13 describes a great religious-civil power that will arise in the place of the old Roman Empire. This prophesied power will not allow free speech, a free press or the free exercise of any religion \u2014 except the official religion of the state.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Philadelphia portion of the Church of God<\/a> did begin in the USA and its most faithful remnant, the Continuing<\/em> Church of God<\/a>, is still based out of the USA and we are proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom of God<\/a> and other biblical truths.<\/p>\n

Yet now, in the USA and especially out of it, we are seeing more and more calls for speech restrictions and censorship.<\/p>\n

More censorship is coming.<\/p>\n

The Bible teaches:<\/p>\n

11 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God,
\nThat I will send a famine on the land,
\nNot a famine of bread,
\nNor a thirst for water,
\nBut of hearing the words of the Lord.
\n12 They shall wander from sea to sea,
\nAnd from north to east;
\nThey shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord,
\nBut shall not find it. (Amos 8:11-12)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

That does not mean that there will be no Bibles. But the time will come when those promoting various biblical teachings will no longer to be able to have access to the internet, etc. as before. We are seeing more and more of this.<\/p>\n

Jesus said:<\/p>\n

4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. (John 9:4)<\/p>\n

7 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”: 8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name. (Revelation 3:7-9)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As Philadelphia Christians, we do not give up when when door is closing–we look out for others to be opened. So, in 2023, we greatly increased our radio presence around the world.<\/p>\n

So far, radio is NOT subject to the type of censorship Big Tech and many governments around the world have been engaging in–despite the problems we faced.<\/p>\n

As far as censorhip goes, expect more.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Bible shows more restrictions are coming.<\/p>\n

Consider that Jesus said:<\/p>\n

The Bible warns us the time is just ahead when NO MAN CAN WORK\u2014in the Lord\u2019s Work. We must sacrifice now as never before for this Work that we may FINISH the Work that Christ has called us to do. Pray as never before, for this Work.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In a November 22, 1982 co-worker letter, Herbert W. Armstrong wrote:<\/p>\n

So, the Bible tells of a time that will come when the word of God will not be found. And that would seem to be because it will be taken off the internet. In the 21st century, the internet is accessed by people in every country, and thus some type of internet restriction\/suspension\/site removal is coming.<\/p>\n

Europe has already taken steps to push Big Tech to remove speech it does not want to allow. The UK is taking steps. And do not count on the USA to protect free speech in the future.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
