A new report by the European Union urges the EU to spend more on its military and to be better prepared:<\/p>\n

The EU urgently needs to be more pro-active in its response to the increasingly complex crises facing the world, according to a report on Europe’s civilian and military preparedness published today by former Finnish President Sauli Niinist\u00f6.<\/p>\n

Writing just a week before key US presidential elections, Niinist\u00f6 said the EU needed to send a signal that it was willing to pay its way on defence, adding that the bloc should spend around 20% of its budget, currently worth around \u20ac1 trillion over seven years, on security and crisis preparedness.<\/p>\n

“Threats don’t stop at our borders, they cascade between the interconnected sectors of our economy,” said Niinist\u00f6’, whose report was requested by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, adding that “if we are not doing all we can for our own security, we cannot expect others to do it for us”. …<\/p>\n

The report comes as the US prepares to go to the polls on 5 November. The idea that Republican candidate Donald Trump might cut aid to war-torn Ukraine, or even abandon his mutual defence commitment to NATO members, has sent panic across Europe. …<\/p>\n

European leaders are concerned about defense and the possible re-election of Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

Some in Europe want Donald Trump to win so that they can use that as a reason to further arm. Politico<\/em> reported the following:<\/p>\n

BRUSSELS \u2014 Here\u2019s a dirty little secret about the U.S. presidential election: Some European officials think a victory by former President Donald Trump could be what the European Union needs to muscle up on defense and get tough on China.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe return of Trump would be a beneficial shock that will enable the EU to move forward, like the pandemic or the energy crisis following the war in Ukraine,\u201d said one senior EU diplomat who, like others quoted in this article, was granted anonymity to speak freely.<\/p>\n

This view, shared confidentially by several EU diplomats and EU officials, doesn\u2019t stem from affection for the Republican candidate or his policy proposals.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, a second Trump term would administer the \u201cbitter medicine\u201d a fractious EU needs to overcome its divisions and move forward as a bloc, six EU diplomats and officials conveyed to POLITICO.<\/p>\n

A Trump presidency would be so hostile to Europe, the thinking goes, that the bloc would have no choice but to bolster its defense spending, …<\/p>\n

As the Nov. 5 election draws near, don\u2019t expect European officials to voice these views in public. Trump is deeply unpopular in most of Europe, and there are few political points to score from embracing him.<\/p>\n

But officials have said it might be time to embrace autonomy, suggesting that Europe should prepare for a big change in EU-U.S. relations, no matter who is elected.<\/p>\n

\u201cEuropeans must take their destiny into their own hands, regardless of who is elected U.S. president,\u201d French Europe Minister Benjamin Haddad said on French TV last week. https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/donald-trump-eu-officials-china-union-policy-kamala-harris-medicine-ukraine-defense\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yes, many in Europe want it to have a stronger military. The Bible says that Europe will end up with a “great army” (Daniel 11:25) and “many ships” (Daniel 11:40).<\/p>\n

A Donald Trump presidency will further motivate the Europeans to arm more.<\/p>\n

Even if Donald Trump does not take office again, EU leaders are more and more losing confidence in the USA related to military matters, and will arm consistent with biblical prophecies.<\/p>\n

Consider, also, that it was right after Donald Trump’s election in 2016 that Europe formally decided that it needed its OWN military alliance–and it then formed one called PESCO.<\/p>\n

Some have called PESCO Europe’s “last chance” as the following from the Spring of 2024 declares:<\/p>\n

La Council Decision 2017\/2315<\/a> which established the Permanent Structured Defense Cooperation (PESCO) stated that “A long-term vision for PESCO could be to arrive at a coherent package of forces for the entire spectrum (a coherent full spectrum force package<\/em>) of military operations …<\/p>\n

The new strategic situation demands a new posture of European forces. All troops from all European Allies \/ EU Member States added together They do not constitute a complete set of forces<\/a> capable of acting throughout the entire spectrum of possible operations. Furthermore, in many essential areas European armies have little or no capacity; They are only fully operational if the United States makes up the difference. In view of the current North American strategy, this represents an unacceptable strategic risk. …<\/p>\n

Europeans will also have to rebuild for themselves the logistical depth (in relation, for example, to the strength of supply chains, the production of military material or in terms of maintenance capacity) and the military mobility necessary to sustain this package of forces. …<\/p>\n

A credible European expeditionary force requires nations to assign entire brigades (and air squadrons, and ships…) and train them as part of a community force package (within the global package of European forces) within the framework of periodic multinational maneuvers. …<\/p>\n

PESCO could be the central mechanism through which EU Member States wishing to cooperate to achieve capabilities objectives translate them into concrete initiatives and direct all defense cooperation within the EU framework, both within the of the CSDP and that of the Commission. …<\/p>\n

PESCO would benefit greatly from the existence of a permanent presidency; …<\/p>\n

Despite issues with PESCO, European leaders have concluded that it is not in their interest to rely on the US for defense.<\/p>\n

Perhaps it should be noted that even Switzerland, which is not officially part of the EU, decided to join PESCO this past Summer:<\/p>\n

The Bundesrat, Switzerland’s Federal Council, approved the country’s participation as a third state in the European Union’s (EU’s) Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) Military Mobility and Cyber Ranges Federation projects on 21 August, the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) announced in a press release later the same day.<\/p>\n

Co-ordinated by the Netherlands, the PESCO Military Mobility project aims to facilitate armed forces’ movements through standard administrative procedures, allowing applications for cross-border transport and deployments to be processed and approved within days. The DDPS expects this to simplify Swiss deployments abroad, for example for training or peace support operations.<\/p>\n

Asked whether Swiss participation in the PESCO Military Mobility project would allow EU members’ convoys to move through Switzerland, DDPS spokesperson Mireille Fleury told Janes<\/em> on 22 August, \u201cIt is already possible, under certain conditions, for EU member states to travel through Switzerland to transport equipment. So, PESCO has grown.<\/p>\n

And yes, Donald Trump has been a factor in its formation and probably growth.<\/p>\n

Europe should build its own army and not rely on security guarantees from Washington, the European Commission president said following the election of Donald Trump. At the same time, Jean-Claude Juncker called for the preservation of the transatlantic partnership. \u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need more security in Europe, and I do not mean just the anti-terror fight,\u201d<\/em> Juncker said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTalking about security we need a different way of organizing a European defense \u2026 the French National Assembly in 1954 prevented the European community of defense.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe need it now. The idea that the Americans will eternally see to \u2026 European security is not true. Independent of the outcome of the US election, the Americans will not see to Europe\u2019s security forever. We have to do it ourselves. And this is why we need a new approach to the European community of defense, including a European army,\u201d<\/em> Juncker said. \u2026<\/p>\n

The EU ministers are expected to meet in Brussels on Monday to discuss plans to strengthen the EU military cooperation and capabilities. https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/366177-european-army-security-juncker\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Furthermore, in December 2017, Europe\u2019s new military cooperation organization, called PESCO (Permanent Structured Cooperation), formed (see PESCO: The making of a European Defence Union<\/a>) and announced plans related to military cooperation and technology (see PESCO moving forward with technology<\/a>).<\/p>\n

PESCO and a Great European Army<\/a><\/h3>\n

In November 2018, French President Macron called for a \u201ctrue European army\u201d because of China, Russia, and the USA. Some others in Europe have echoed that sentiment. On November 9, 2018, US President Donald Trump called that an insult, but the next day said that the USA wanted \u201ca very strong Europe.\u201d Emmanuel Macron referred to Donald Trump as \u201cmy friend\u201d and indicated a desire to strengthen Europe\u2019s military spending. In December 2017, 25 European nations agreed to be part of a military alliance called PESCO. Europe also has NATO and IEI. Will Europe end up with \u201ca great army\u201d? Has Donald Trump\u2019s announcement to withdraw from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty gotten some to say that Europe must rebel against the USA? Is the idea of a United States of Europe and a European army a \u201cparanoid fantasy\u201d or a biblical reality? Will the USA regret Europe becoming a stronger military power? Will the USA be betrayed by \u201cfriends\u201d such as its continental European allies? Does the Bible teach any or all of this?
