“Is Trump serious about tariffs?” This has been the question hanging over not just world markets but the whole world economics.<\/p>\n

The popular wisdom had become that he wasn\u2019t really that serious, and the key bit of evidence for that was\u00a0his appointment of hedge fund investor Scott Bessent<\/a>\u00a0as Trump\u2019s preferred Treasury secretary.<\/p>\n

    Earlier,\u00a0we heard Ontario’s premier had said that<\/a>\u00a0the US imposing a 25% tariff on imported Canadian goods would be “devastating” for both American and Canadian workers.<\/p>\n

    Now the head of Quebec – Canada’s second biggest province after Ontario – says the tariff\u00a0“poses an enormous risk to the Quebec and Canadian economies”,\u00a0external<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n
