After US President-elect Donald Trump made his recent comments about Canada becoming a state in the USA, Kevin O’Leary said he would like to negotiate a deal to make that happen:<\/p>\n

Television personality Kevin O’Leary says he wants to “start the narrative” with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to negotiate a deal that would merge the economies of Canada and the U.S. O’Leary claimed on X, formerly known as Twitter, that “Canadians over the holidays have been talking about this.”<\/p>\n

The Florida-based entrepreneur appeared on Fox Business weeks after Trump’s quip that Canada should become the 51st state of the U.S<\/a>. and taunting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau by calling him a “governor.”<\/p>\n

\u201cI like this idea and at least half of Canadians are interested,” O’Leary claimed. “Nobody wants Trudeau to negotiate this deal … I don’t want him doing it for me, so I’m going to go to Mar-a-Lago.”<\/p>\n

On the American program, he talked about the possibilities for sharing resources, using a common currency, creating a new EU-like passport and figuring out taxes across the board.<\/p>\n

He added that \u201cof the 41 million Canadians, I think most of them would trust me on this deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

A poll from Leger earlier this month found that only 13 per cent of Canadians<\/a> are warm to the idea of the country becoming the “51st state.”<\/p>\n

Well, despite Kevin O’Leary’s confidence in himself, it does not sound like most Canadians want to be part of the USA.<\/p>\n

Why Canada should join the EU<\/h2>\n

Europe needs space and resources, Canada needs people. Let\u2019s deal<\/h3>\n

Is international conflicts<\/small> go, none did so little to disrupt the global order as the \u201cwhisky wars\u201d that pitted Canada against Denmark for four decades. Flaring up in 1984, the unlikely spat involved a one-square-kilometre island in the middle of an icy Arctic channel marking the border between Greenland (now a self-ruling part of Denmark) and the Canadian territory of Nunavut. Both sides assumed the rock was theirs. What might have been considered a casus belli<\/i> by lesser countries became, for the northern duo, an exercise in diplomatic civility. Canadian officials visiting the island marked their territory by leaving whisky and flags; Danes asserted sovereignty by snaffling the booze and leaving their own schnapps for Canadians to enjoy. In lieu of shots fired, polite letters were occasionally exchanged. While the USA, Canada, and Denmark all have expressed interest in Greenland, those there have aligned themselves with Denmark and the EU.<\/p>\n

Greenland is not a reason most Canadians would cite as a reason to join the EU.<\/p>\n

The threat of tariffs against Canada and against the EU by Donald Trump, however, is a reason that both sides might talk more about cooperation.<\/p>\n

That said, the idea of Canada potentially joining the European Union is not new.<\/p>\n

Canada, the world\u2019s eighth-largest economy, kicked off trade talks with the European Union as it seeks to reduce dependence on a slowing U.S. economy. <\/span>Prime Minister <\/span>Stephen Harper<\/span> met European Commission President <\/span>Jose Barroso<\/span> today in Prague to discuss an accord. Canada\u2019s exports will drop 22 percent this year because of the weak global economy, the country\u2019s export development agency predicted last month. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an historic step for Canada,\u201d Harper told reporters in Prague. \u201cIt is a glimmer of light in the darkness of this global recession.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

A trade agreement with the European Union would be the country\u2019s largest since the North American Free Trade Agreement. Canada is suffering its deepest slump since the 1930s amid plunging demand for its goods in the U.S., which buys about 80 percent of its exports. <\/span><\/p>\n

Canada, home to aircraft producer <\/span>Bombardier Inc.<\/span> and among the world\u2019s 10 largest auto producing nations, will record a 7.3 percent drop in first-quarter output, the country\u2019s central bank estimates. <\/span><\/p>\n

Canadian officials, including Trade Minister <\/span>Stockwell Day<\/span>, also have complained about what they say is growing protectionism in the U.S. <\/span><\/p>\n

Protectionist Risk <\/span><\/p>\n

A U.S. decision to let states exclude Canadian companies from projects paid for by the $787 billion stimulus package risks igniting a protectionist backlash, Day told reporters last month in Washington. The U.S. also recently imposed $54.8 million in duties on softwood lumber from four Canadian provinces. <\/span><\/p>\n

Canada and the EU, too, will need to overcome trade disputes as they start negotiations. The European Union yesterday approved a ban on imports of seal products, prompting Canada to threaten action with the WTO. <\/span><\/p>\n

The EU is targeting products derived from seals that are killed and skinned in ways that cause pain and suffering. <\/span><\/p>\n

Day told reporters yesterday in Prague the dispute won\u2019t affect the trade talks with the EU. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to pursue a broader trade agreement with the EU but there will always be individual disputes as there will be with this case with the seals,\u201d he said. <\/span><\/p>\n

A trade agreement could boost Canadian exports by C$12 billion ($10.2 billion) annually, Day said. <\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond Tariffs <\/span><\/p>\n

The scope of negotiations will reach beyond tariffs, making it a broader agreement than Nafta. Canada and the EU are seeking an \u201cambitious\u201d agreement including government procurement and regulatory co-operation, according to a statement released by Harper\u2019s office today. Canada and the EU traded C$90.4 billion worth of goods in 2008. <\/span><\/p>\n

An agreement may open up European markets to Canadian aerospace and engineering companies such as Bombardier and SNC Lavalin Group Inc., while providing Europeans access to Canada\u2019s energy resources, said Simon Potter, a trade lawyer at McCarthy Tetrault in Montreal. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the very first trade deal we\u2019re going to sign with a huge economy after Nafta,\u201d Potter said in a telephone interview. \u201cI expect energy is going to be a major part.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Canada sits on the largest pool of oil reserves outside of the Middle East, and is a major exporter of natural gas. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEurope strategically is looking to work its way out from the yoke of Gazprom and seeking other suppliers,\u201d Dale Botting, an economic development official from Saskatchewan, said in a telephone interview. Interestingly, to me it least, was something I saw on Canadian television several years ago that indicated that in the future, Quebec would become an ally of the EU and help lead to the destruction of Canada (and possibly also the USA, if I remember that part well enough).<\/p>\n

As\u00a0 I have long believed and reported, the USA and Canada will make various deals with the Europeans, but ultimately, the USA, Canada, and their Anglo-allies, will decide to cooperate more with each other than with the Europeans (Quebec, though, could be in a different category).<\/p>\n

However, Anglo-unity is likely to be one of the factors that will lead to the destruction of the Anglo-descended peoples by the coming European Beast power.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Let me add that since the UK had Brexit, that would be another reason that Canada would not want to voluntarily join the EU.<\/p>\n

However, the time will come when Canada, along with the United States, will be conquered by the coming European Beast power and its lands will be divided (cf. Daniel 11:39).<\/p>\n

This will happen no matter what Kevin O’Leary may or may not do.<\/p>\n
