A series of California wildfires erupted on Tuesday. Fueled by strong winds, which gusted to more than 70 mph in some spots and dry conditions, the fires burned for four days. The disaster took a horrific toll, killing at least ten people and forcing an estimated 180,000 from their homes while burning through 20,000 acres and 5,300 structures. The fire burned through Los Angeles residential areas, destroying homes and leaving over 450,000 without electricity. …<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Natural disasters of epic proportions are described in the Bible, and the wildfires are as hinted at by King David as serving God in the pre-Messiah period:<\/p>\n

He makes the winds His messengers, fiery flames His servants. Psalms 104:4<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

The Prophet Malachi describes wildfires as a messenger of God<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Behold, I am sending My messenger to clear the way before Me, and the Lord whom you seek shall come to His Temple suddenly. As for the angel of the covenant that you desire, he is already coming. But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can hold out when he appears? For he is like a smelter\u2019s fire and like fuller\u2019s lye. (Malachi 3:1-2)<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

Though the process is undoubtedly painful, the Talmud\u00a0 (Nedarim 8b) describes it as healing: https:\/\/israel365news.com\/399324\/california-wildfires-a-glimpse-of-malachis-healing-pre-messiah-fires\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While Jesus will come again, and these fires are in that sense “pre-Messianic,” no they are not related to Malachi 3:1-2. The messenger being described is a type of Elijah to come.<\/p>\n

It is important to note that Jesus was not like a smelter’s fire in His first coming (outside of Malachi, smelting\/refining fire is not mentioned in the Bible again until a future time Revelation 3:18)–and that is the time the Bible associates with the LORD and refining has to do with punishment and vengeance (Jeremiah 7:7-9)–these did not occur with Jesus’ first coming. While John the Baptist fulfilled the first half of the verses in Malachi 3:1 (and that is the only portion of Malachi 3:1 that Jesus quotes related to John the Baptist in Matthew 11:10 and Luke 7:27) and 4:5, there is absolutely no biblical indication that he fulfilled (or even could have fulfilled) verses 3:2 or 4:6. This fire is considered the most destructive ever in the Los Angeles area (see \u2018Apocalyptic\u2019 fires are the most destructive in Southern California\u2019s history<\/span> <\/a>), it also is expected to be very costly. Bloomberg reports:<\/p>\n

Firefighters made some progress <\/strong>in taming several fires that reduced entire neighborhoods in Los Angeles to ash, though new blazes have started up as the toll of the destruction continues to rise<\/a>. At least 10 people died, some 10,000 structures burned, and 180,000 residents have been forced to flee. Accuweather raised its estimate of economic losses to as much as $150 billion. https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/newsletters\/2025-01-10\/cost-of-los-angeles-fires-soars-toward-150-billion<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now here are some scriptures related to weather, fire, and wind:<\/p>\n

25 For He commands and raises the stormy wind, (Psalm 107:25)<\/p>\n

17 He casts out His hail like morsels;
\nWho can stand before His cold?
\n18 He sends out His word and melts them;
\nHe causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow<\/strong>. (Psalm 147:17-18)<\/p>\n

1 … O Lord my God, You are very great:
\nYou are clothed with honor and majesty,
\n2 Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment,
\nWho stretch out the heavens like a curtain.<\/p>\n

3 He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters,
\nWho makes the clouds His chariot,
\nWho walks on the wings of the wind,
\n4 Who makes His angels spirits,
\nHis ministers a flame of fire. (Psalm 104:1-4)<\/p>\n

7 “I also withheld rain from you, When there were still three months to the harvest. I made it rain on one city, I withheld rain from another city. One part was rained upon, And where it did not rain the part withered. 8 So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water, But they were not satisfied; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the Lord. (Amos 4:7-8)<\/p>\n

8 Fire and hail, snow and clouds;
\nStormy wind, fulfilling His word; (Psalm 148:8)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

God controls the weather. Jesus’ disciples got to see this first hand:<\/p>\n

23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”<\/p>\n

26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” (Matthew 8:23-27)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Presumably, the disciples learned something from that experience.<\/p>\n

Weather is sometimes used by God for judgment and correction.<\/p>\n

Notice a few such warnings related to fire:<\/p>\n

12 O house of David! Thus says the Lord:<\/p>\n

\u201cExecute judgment in the morning;
\nAnd deliver him who is plundered
\nOut of the hand of the oppressor,
\nLest My fury go forth like fire
\nAnd burn so that no one can quench it,
\nBecause of the evil of your doings.<\/p>\n

13 \u201cBehold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley,
\nAnd rock of the plain,\u201d says the Lord,
\n\u201cWho say, \u2018Who shall come down against us?
\nOr who shall enter our dwellings?\u2019
\n14 But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings,\u201d says the Lord;
\n\u201cI will kindle a fire in its forest,
\nAnd it shall devour all things around it.\u201d\u2018 (Jeremiah 21:12-14)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

11 The Lord has fulfilled His fury,
\nHe has poured out His fierce anger.
\nHe kindled a fire in Zion,
\nAnd it has devoured its foundations. (Lamentations 4:11)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In some areas of Los Angeles, it literally looks like a nuclear weapon exploded<\/a>. \u00a0Some of the most iconic locations in the Los Angeles area have been wiped out, and even Hollywood Boulevard is being evacuated<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n

Sadly, large numbers of expensive homes have already been lost, and this includes the homes of many big names in the entertainment industry<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n

By the afternoon, the Santa Ana wind-fueled fire had claimed the homes of more than half a dozen A-listers in the community perched above the Pacific ocean: Billy Crystal, Anna Faris, John Goodman, Anthony Hopkins, Eugene Levy and Miles Teller all lost homes there, according to social media posts and reporting by Page Six.<\/p>\n

The Palisades home of Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, who walked the Golden Globes carpet together on Sunday, also burned down.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

People Magazine has published a list<\/a> of 47 major celebrities that have lost their homes so far.<\/p>\n

We have seen homes owned by celebrities get burned down in past fires, but we have never seen so many get burned down all at once. …<\/p>\n

Let me add that most famous Hollywood celebrities do NOT live in Hollywood. Many live near Malibu and in the area affected by the Palisades fire. An area that has been in a drought the past several months.<\/p>\n
