There are costs to tariffs. There are debates about who will win this. Some say the USA and some China:<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s trade policy offers the EU an unexpected opportunity \u2014 if it can grab it<\/h2>\n

Europe has the chance to become one of the leaders of a free, responsible and democratic world. But it needs to take its fate in its own hands.<\/p>\n

U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s tariff roulette is affecting the entire world. Rather than simply escalating the trade war through retaliatory tariffs, however, affected countries also have the option to choose a different path, separating the unpredictable, protectionist U.S. from those who favor fair, mutually beneficial trade.<\/p>\n

And as Trump\u2019s America motivates countries to create new alliances and trade agreements, the EU is well positioned to lead this approach and has the potential to be a welcome trade partner for many nations. …<\/p>\n

Talks are already underway with India, and opportunities to balance trade with China, which has been severely affected by U.S. sanctions, are also emerging.<\/p>\n

According to economists from the European Central Bank (ECB), expanding trade with third countries like this could help offset the impact of conflict with the U.S. …<\/p>\n

ECB President Christine Lagarde … stated that U.S. tariffs present a unique opportunity for Europe<\/a> to take its fate into its own hands …<\/p>\n

Lagarde is right. Under the influence of the dramatic shift in U.S. politics, which may or may not be permanent, Europe must stand on its own two feet. If, in addition to its core values and overall stability, it makes the right decisions to strengthen its economy, the EU model will present a clear alternative to Trump\u2019s America.<\/p>\n

Other countries could then choose between the Trump model and the European approach to society, values and economy \u2014 and the outcome of that choice could significantly reshape the world. https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/donald-trump-trade-policy-tariffs-eu-economy-competitiveness\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Biblically, the idea that Europe would increase its trading position in the world is prophesied–it is NOT unexpected.<\/p>\n

Let me add that the European Union is large. And that many other nations want to actually be part of it. Its president commented about that last month:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe West as we knew it no longer exists,\u201d Ursula von der Leyen has declared amid rapidly deteriorating relations with the United States under Donald Trump\u2019s administration, which has forced Europe to look elsewhere for allies and partners.<\/p>\n

In the aftermath of Trump\u2019s sweeping tariffs, which Brussels has decried as \u201cneither credible nor justified\u201d, the president of the European Commission has been working the phones with representatives from Norway, Iceland, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. Von der Leyen has also spoken with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, fuelling speculation of an imminent thaw in EU-China ties after years of tensions. …<\/p>\n

\u201c Everyone is asking for more trade with Europe … Europe is still a peace project. We don\u2019t have bros or oligarchs making the rules. We don\u2019t invade our neighbours, and we don\u2019t punish them. On the contrary, there are twelve countries on the waiting list to become members of the European Union. That\u2019s about 150 million people,\u201d she said, referring to the accession process. \u2026<\/p>\n

when asked if Europe should \u201ctrust the Chinese\u201d, she did not refute the growing speculation<\/strong><\/a> of a rapprochement. https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/my-europe\/2025\/04\/16\/the-west-as-we-knew-it-no-longer-exists-von-der-leyen-says-amid-trump-tensions<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The EU already has 450 million people officially in it, and several other nations that are semi in it (Norway and Switzerland), plus nations representing 150 million people wanting in. So, a potential market of over 600,000,000 people. That is much larger than the USA.<\/p>\n

Trade<\/strong><\/p>\n

Historically, Donald Trump has called for \u201cfair trade\u201d and indicated that various nations, including several in Asia, are not engaged in fair trade, so he has proposed high tariffs.[i]<\/a><\/p>\n

Donald Trump has called tariffs, \u201cthe most beautiful word in the dictionary\u201d and even proposed massive tariffs (up to 2000%) on Mexico if it will not do what he wants.[ii]<\/a> He has basically also proposed a minimum of 10% tariffs on goods from much of the rest of the world.<\/p>\n

Some believe that Donald Trump\u2019s positions on trade will lead to a global trade war.[iii]<\/a> Europe has said it will hit back against Donald Trump\u2019s tariff policies.[iv]<\/a> It is my position that trade disputes will be a factor in Europe taking military action against the USA one day.<\/p>\n

One of the unintended consequences of Donald Trump\u2019s threats of tariffs and other trade matters is that it is motivating nations he has threatened to look to trade more with each other. \u2026 (pp. 51-52)<\/p>\n

The USA itself, as well as Donald Trump specifically, have repeatedly shown the Europeans that it does not trust them, yet it sometimes will trust them too much. According to the Bible, the time will come when the USA will find that continental Europe will be an enemy (cf. Isaiah 10:5-11) and not an ally (Ezekiel 23:4,9-10; Lamentations 1:1-2). (p. 58)<\/p>\n

The USA will be attacked by \u201cfriends\u201d consistent with the following:<\/p>\n

1 <\/sup>How lonely sits the city
\nThat was full of people!
\nHow like a widow is she,
\nWho was great among the nations!<\/p>\n

The princess among the provinces
\nHas become a slave!<\/p>\n

2<\/sup> She weeps bitterly in the night,
\nHer tears are on her cheeks;
\nAmong all her lovers
\nShe has none to comfort her.<\/p>\n

All her friends have dealt treacherously with her;
\nThey have become her enemies. cf. Lamentations 1:1-2).<\/p>\n

Notice the one who was \u201cgreat among the nations\u201d will be conquered by friends, who will become enemies. (pp. 140-141)<\/p>\n
