Dutch right-wing leader Geert Wilders has pulled his Freedom Party (PVV) from the country’s ruling coalition after issuing an ultimatum<\/a> last week demanding tougher action on curbing the migrant crisis. With no agreement, Wilders, whose party held the most seats,\u00a0quit the\u00a0coalition\u00a0in The Hague, plunging the Netherlands into political uncertainty.<\/p>\n

“No signature for our asylum plans. No changes to the Main Outline Agreement. PVV leaves the coalition<\/strong>,”\u00a0Wilders wrote on X earlier.<\/p>\n

“The PVV promised voters the strictest asylum policy ever<\/strong>,” including a hard-line 10-point plan<\/a> to “close the borders to asylum-seekers<\/strong>,”\u00a0Wilders told reporters earlier. He noted that when\u00a0coalition partners (populist Farmer-Citizens Movement (BBB), the centrist New Social Contract (NSC), and the liberal People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD)) disagreed on the new plans,\u00a0“I had no choice but to say: We rescind support for this Cabinet.”\u00a0<\/strong> …<\/p>\n

“Our patience has run out now,<\/strong>” PVV’s leader said at the time, adding his party has been “very reasonable and very patient” over the past year while waiting for tougher migrant policies.<\/p>\n

“My limit, and the limit of a lot of Dutch people, has been reached<\/strong>,” he noted, emphasizing,\u00a0“Holland must become Holland again. The PVV will wait no longer<\/strong>.” …<\/p>\n

More broadly, right-wing movements across Europe have surged by focusing on the continent’s out-of-control migrant crisis, securing political gains this year in Germany, Poland, Austria, Portugal, and Romania.<\/p>\n

Geert Wilders has announced that his Party For Freedom (PVV) will leave the governing coalition over a migration dispute.<\/p>\n

The withdrawal, which comes three weeks before the Netherlands is due to host a NATO summit in the Hague, could spell the end of the 11-month-old government of Prime Minister Dick Schoof.<\/p>\n

Wilders confirmed the move in a social media post on X, saying he had taken the decision because his coalition partners were unwilling to agree to his migration plans.<\/p>\n

“No signature under our asylum plans. The PVV leaves the coalition,” he wrote on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI signed up for the toughest asylum policy and not the downfall of the Netherlands,\u201d Wilders told reporters.<\/p>\n

His coalition partners hit out at the move, with Dilan Yesilg\u00f6z, the leader of the right-wing People\u2019s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), saying she was “shocked” by the decision, which she described as “super-irresponsible”.<\/p>\n
