NUUK, Greenland (AP) \u2014 French President Emmanuel Macron landed Sunday in Greenland, the strategic Arctic island<\/a><\/span> coveted by U.S. President Donald Trump, carrying a \u201cmessage of solidarity and friendship\u201d from France and the European Union.<\/p>\n

Macron reiterated his criticism of Trump\u2019s intention to take control of the territory<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that\u2019s something to be done between allies,\u201d he said as he was greeted at the Nuuk airport by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen<\/a><\/span> and Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important to show that Denmark and Europe are committed to this territory, which has very high strategic stakes and whose territorial integrity must be respected,\u201d Macron said. He was making a stop on his way a summit of the Group of Seven leading industrialized nations<\/a><\/span> in Canada that will be also attended by Trump.<\/p>\n

Macron, who is visiting Greenland for the first time, said \u201cit means a lot to me … to convey a message of friendship and solidarity from France and the European Union to help this territory face the different challenges: economic development, education, as well as the consequences of climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a speech last week at at the U.N. Ocean Conference, Macron also mentioned Greenland and the deep seas, saying they are not \u201cup for grabs\u201d in remarks that appeared directed largely at Trump. …<\/p>\n

Trump and Greenland<\/h2>\n

Last week, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared to acknowledge that the Pentagon has developed plans to take over Greenland<\/a><\/span> and Panama by force if necessary but refused to answer repeated questions during a hotly combative congressional hearing Thursday about his use of Signal chats to discuss military operations<\/a><\/span>. https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/greenland-denmark-france-macron-trump-45e4f749a80ec27564225cd4f8819407<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Thursday’s remarks by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, perhaps, were additional motivation for President Macron to visit Greenland as they show that USA interest in taking over Greenland remains on the table.<\/p>\n

In Greenland, Vance said the U.S. has “no option” but to take a significant position to ensure the security of the island as he encouraged a push in Greenland for independence from Denmark.<\/p>\n

“I think that they ultimately will partner with the United States,” Vance said. “We could make them much more secure. We could do a lot more protection. The Danish foreign minister scolded the Trump administration on Saturday for its “tone” criticizing Denmark and Greenland during Vice President JD Vance’s visit to the strategic island.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Vance \u2014 joined by his wife, second lady Usha Vance, national security adviser Mike Waltz, Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and Sen. Mike Lee of Utah \u2014 on Friday visited the Pituffick Space Base, the northernmost U.S. military installation, in Greenland. …<\/p>\n

“There is no amount of bullying, no amount of obfuscating, no amount of confusing the issue,” Vance said. “Our message to Denmark is very simple: You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland, you have underinvested in the people of Greenland, and you have underinvested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful landmass filled with incredible people. That has to change. And because it hasn’t changed, that’s why President Trump’s policy in Greenland is what it is.”\u00a0https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/danish-foreign-minister-scolds-trump-administration-jd-vance-greenland\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Despite what JD Vance said, the USA looked to be acting like a bully in order to attain more influence in Greenland.<\/p>\n

US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance doubled down Thursday and Friday on their threats to annex Greenland, which Trump previously threatened to conquer by force. …<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Vance railed against the United States\u2019 European allies, stating that they have \u201cneglected international security for 40 years\u201d and have \u201cused America as a piggy bank\u2026 used us to absorb all of their excess economic production.\u201d<\/p>\n

Addressing the people of Greenland in the manner of a mafia enforcer, Vance said, \u201cI think that you\u2019d be a lot better coming under the United States\u2019 security umbrella than you have been under Denmark\u2019s security umbrella.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked by a reporter why \u201cthe President has previously not ruled out military force when he\u2019s talking about taking over Greenland,\u201d Vance responded, \u201cWe do not think military force is ever going to be necessary\u201d because \u201cthe people of Greenland are rational.\u201d<\/p>\n

In other words, Vance explained that, faced with the threat of attack by the world\u2019s largest military power, the territory of just 56,000 people will be expected to make the \u201crational\u201d choice and surrender to US demands.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the trip, M\u00fate Bourup Egede, Greenland\u2019s prime minister, declared, \u201cWhat is the national security adviser [Waltz] doing in Greenland?… The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us.\u201d https:\/\/www.wsws.org\/en\/articles\/2025\/03\/29\/zzlp-m29.html<\/a><\/p>\n

The United States has significantly scaled back its own Arctic defense spending over the decades, including in Greenland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To that end, Denmark\u2019s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said that the United States had maintained 17 bases and more than 10,000 service members across the territory during the Cold War, but now only maintained the one base with about 200 personnel.<\/p>\n

Denmark, meanwhile, is currently engaged in a $2 billion push to modernize its capabilities in the region. Rasmussen also noted a desire to spend more.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Vance] has a point that we haven\u2019t done enough, but I\u2019m a little provoked because it\u2019s also the Americans who haven\u2019t done enough,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>Rasmussen said.<\/p>\n

Similarly, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that the Trump administration\u2019s characterization was not a fair one and went against the spirit of the close alliance the two powers have shared for more than 80 years. https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/greenland-denmark-push-back-vances-visit<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Trump-Vance Administration has been upsetting many nations. The fact is that there will be many unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s and JD Vance’s statements, threats, and policies.<\/p>\n

They are pushing away many allies and offending a lot of them. More and more are seeing the USA act as a bully.<\/p>\n

Donald Trump\u2019s foreign policy statements have unsettled many\u2014in the USA as well as foreign nations. He is believed by many to be more unpredictable than Richard Nixon. Many have rightly pointed out that he often acts as a bully.<\/p>\n

Greenland<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is also something referred to as the \u201claw of unintended consequences.\u201d There are consequences for the USA, Europe, and elsewhere that have and will occur because of Donald Trump\u2019s statements and actions.<\/p>\n

Consider, for one example, that after his reelection, Donald Trump stated that the United States needed to have Greenland for defense and economic purposes. Not only did that offend the governments of Denmark and Greenland, the Danish government then announced that it would greatly increase the amount of money it would spend on the defense of Greenland.[i]<\/a><\/p>\n

On January 7, 2025, Donald Trump refused to rule out military or economic actions to acquire Greenland.[ii]<\/a> The next day, European leaders warned they would not tolerate an attack on Greenland and that the continent of Europe was strong.[iii]<\/a><\/p>\n

Donald Trump then stated he would implement high tariffs against Denmark to try to get it to sell Greenland to the USA.<\/p>\n

However, that overlooks the fact that the European Union has its Anti-Coercion Instrument, which is designed to stop a foreign power from trying to punish one EU nation. Because of that, analysts report that punitive tariffs against Denmark \u201ccould lead to unintended consequences\u201d from the EU against the USA.[iv]<\/a><\/p>\n

One longer term consequence of Donald Trump\u2019s rhetoric may be that the Europeans could decide that Greenland would be a useful place to conduct surveillance on the US and Canada.<\/p>\n

Additionally, it is also possible that Greenland could be used as a base to 1) interfere with US military satellite communications, 2) possibly neutralize some US military moves in Greenland, or even 3) a place to also launch an attack against the US, Canada, and\/or even the UK. The Bible teaches about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2)\u2014some statements by Donald Trump are pushing \u201cfriends\u201d (NATO allies) into being enemies. …<\/p>\n

The USA will be attacked by \u201cfriends\u201d consistent with the following:<\/p>\n

\nThat was full of people!<\/p>\n

How like a widow is she,
\nWho was great among the nations!<\/p>\n

The princess among the provinces\u00a0Has become a slave!<\/p>\n

2<\/sup>\u00a0She weeps bitterly in the night,
\nHer tears are on her cheeks;
\nAmong all her lovers
\nShe has none to comfort her.<\/p>\n

All her friends have dealt treacherously with her;
\nThey have become her enemies. cf. Lamentations 1:1-2).<\/p>\n

Notice the one who was \u201cgreat among the nations\u201d will be conquered by friends, who will become enemies.<\/p>\n

The USA was prophesied to be \u201cgreat\u201d in Genesis 48:19 and is considered by international sources to be great among the nations of the world today.[v]<\/a><\/p>\n

The Bible warns about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2).<\/p>\n

And yes, a more militarized Greenland could play a role in the conquering of the USA–which is prophesied to happen (cf. Daniel 11:39).<\/p>\n
