Russia has announced that its troops have captured all of Ukraine\u2019s Luhansk, one of the four regions that were illegally annexed by Moscow in 2022 despite not fully controlling a single one.<\/p>\n

Leonid Pasechnik, an official appointed by Russia in Luhansk, officially made the announcement on Monday. If confirmed, Luhansk could become the first Ukrainian region fully occupied by Russia after\u00a0more than three years of war.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, the Russian military has also seized a village in Ukraine\u2019s Dnipropetrovsk region, for the first time in three years since the start of the war, according to state media and pro-war bloggers. …<\/p>\n

Many in Luhansk, a primarily Russian speaking area, have long wanted to be separate from Ukraine.<\/p>\n

In 2014, there was an election there, that the West did not accept, where it is reported that wanted independence from Ukraine (see\u00a0West condemns Donetsk and Luhansk elections; USA holds its own election that some wonder where it will lead to<\/a>).<\/p>\n

There were then battles and military skirmish for years, with some in Luhansk calling for assistance from Russia.<\/p>\n

On February 21, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine and accepted the Luhansk People\u2019s Republic and Donetsk People\u2019s Republic as independent nations (see I365: Right before Messiah, US will fight Russia and China will capitalize, rabbinic \u201cprophecy\u201d reveals\u2019 COGwriter: No, that is not what the Bible teaches<\/span><\/a>). Then on 30 September 2022, Vladimir Putin announced the annexation of Ukraine\u2019s Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia areas in an address to both houses of the Russian parliament.<\/p>\n

The Bible foretells a time when the \u201cKings of the Medes\u201d will get together (Jeremiah 51:11, 28)\u2013and some now have. Many in Russia, Ukraine, and even Moldova have descent from the ancient Medes.<\/p>\n

Notice something that happened on the last day of 2022:<\/p>\n

\u201cMilitias from the Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR) and Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) were formally integrated into the Russian armed forces on 31 December 2022,\u201d Britain\u2019s Defense Ministry said Friday in its update on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, posted on Twitter. https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/a\/uk-luhansk-and-donetsk-formally-integrated-into-russian-armed-forces-\/6906874.html<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The integration of the militaries of those in Donetsk and Luhansk is consistent with what I have long expected and written about.<\/p>\n

Here is something I posted here in 2014:<\/p>\n

Vladimir Putin wants Ukraine, to influence, dominate, and ultimately control. He is repeatedly taking steps in order to increase Russian influence there.<\/p>\n

As far as how it will ultimately end, that is not impossible to predict.\u00a0 The Bible tells of the rise of a European Beast power<\/a> and a Eurasian<\/a> power.<\/p>\n

Ukraine is geographically in the middle of that.<\/p>\n

Some\/much of Ukraine will likely temporarily align with the European power.\u00a0 Even Russia appears prophesied to cooperate with it for some time (cf. Revelation 13:4,8).<\/p>\n

The historian Herodotus claimed that there were six different tribes\/families of Medes.<\/p>\n

Herodotus identified the tribes of the Medes as Busae, Parataceni\/Paratakeni, Struchates\/Strukhates, Arizanti, Budii, and the Magi (Herodotus: A New and Literal Version with a Geographical and General Index by Henry Cary. Histories, book 1, chapter 101. Translated by Henry Cary. Harper, 1896. Original from the University of Virginia, Digitized Jan 23, 2009, p. 46).<\/p>\n

Some of the Russians themselves appear to have been from the Medes. Notice the following:<\/p>\n

Today the people who constituted the empire of the Medes may be found in western Russia, specifically the Ukraine and Volhynia. (White C. The Great German Nation: Origins and Destiny. AuthorHouse, 2007, p. 285)<\/p>\n

But how are we to explain the name Russia? The old-fashioned view was to derive the word from the Rhoxolani. This, however, has long been abandoned. One thing is certain, namely, that these Rhoxolani were of Oriental descent, a Medic or Iranic tribe. They disappear from history, having, like so many other tribes \u2014 as, for instance, the Pechenegs and the Khozars\u2014been swallowed up by the huge waves of immigration which overflowed the country (Morfill WR. Russia. Published 1890 by T.F. Unwin, London).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There are many disputes among academics as to who derived from whom, thus it is not completely clear, for example, that the Rhoxolani were Medes who went to Russia.<\/p>\n

The Bible has several end time prophecies concerning the Medes (Isaiah 13:17-19) and the kings of the Medes (Jeremiah 51:11, 28-29) that involve military action and point to Russian involvement (Jeremiah 50:41-43; Daniel 11:44).<\/p>\n

Various ones in Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Russia, and elsewhere are part of the descendants of the Medes, as likely are some in Moldova and perhaps elsewhere.<\/p>\n

If the Rhoxolani were Medes, then it would seem to be consistent with certain biblical prophecies.<\/p>\n

While some\/many in Ukraine descended from the Medes, so have some\/many in Russia.<\/p>\n

The Bible shows that those who are the \u201ckings of the Medes\u201d will turn against the final European Babylonian power:<\/p>\n

11 Make the arrows bright!
\nGather the shields!
\nThe Lord has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes.
\nFor His plan is against Babylon to destroy it,
\nBecause it is the vengeance of the Lord,
\nThe vengeance for His temple.
\n12 Set up the standard on the walls of Babylon;
\nMake the guard strong,
\nSet up the watchmen,
\nPrepare the ambushes.
\nFor the Lord has both devised and done
\nWhat He spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon. (Jeremiah 51:11-12)<\/p>\n

28 Prepare against her the nations,With the kings of the Medes,Its governors and all its rulers,All the land of his dominion. 29 And the land will tremble and sorrow;For every purpose of the Lord shall be performed against Babylon,To make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitant. 30 The mighty men of Babylon have ceased fighting,They have remained in their strongholds;Their might has failed,They became like women;They have burned her dwelling places,The bars of her gate are broken. 31 One runner will run to meet another,And one messenger to meet another,To show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on all sides; 32 The passages are blocked,The reeds they have burned with fire,And the men of war are terrified.
\n33 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:
\n\u201cThe daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor When it is time to thresh her;Yet a little while And the time of her harvest will come.\u201d (Jeremiah 51:28-33)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Historically, the old Worldwide Church of God believed that many in Ukraine descended from Madia (see Countries and Their Biblical Names<\/a> ), the Medes.\u00a0 Various Russians are also descendents of Madia.<\/p>\n

Barack Obama, the President of the USA, while encouraging sanctions, has repeatedly said the USA will not intervene militarily:<\/p>\n

President Barack Obama again ruled out U.S. military action, saying there must be a diplomatic solution. But he said he would reaffirm U.S. commitment to NATO allies in the region at a summit next week.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not taking military action to solve the Ukrainian problem. What we\u2019re doing is to mobilize the international community to apply pressure on Russia,\u201d he told reporters at the White House. https:\/\/bangordailynews.com\/2014\/08\/28\/news\/world-news\/obama-us-will-seek-diplomatic-resolution-not-military-action-to-russian-intervention-in-ukraine\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For nearly a decade, many in the Donbas region have called for Russia to defend and\/or annex them.<\/p>\n

Two days BEFORE the start of Russia\u2019s \u201cSpecial Military Operation\u201d into Ukraine, I posted the following here:<\/p>\n

In the Fall of 2013, I wrote that Russia would end up with some territory that Ukraine claimed. That was confirmed on March 18, 2014, when Vladimir Putin signed a treaty to make Crimea part of Russia (https:\/\/www.rferl.org\/a\/putin-to-visit-crimea-to-mark-five-years-since-peninsula-rejoined-russia\/29826559.html<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Why did I write that back in 2013?<\/p>\n

Because of my understanding of biblical prophecies while also watching some of what was happening in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Back in 2013 there were protests against the democratically elected and pro-Russian government in Ukraine. Instead of backing Ukraine\u2019s elected president, the USA backed a coup. Because of prophecies related to the \u201ckings of the Medes\u201d in the Book of Jeremiah, I concluded that at least some territory controlled by Ukraine would end up supporting Russia and wrote about that.<\/p>\n

When Ukraine\u2019s coup government took over in early 2014, one of the first things it did was to pass a bill (that ended up not being signed into law) to make Russian a second-class language in Ukraine. That incensed those in Crimea and various ones in the eastern portion of Ukraine. Many in Donbas and Crimea speak Russian as their native language.<\/p>\n

So in 2014, Crimea voted to leave Ukraine and become part of Russia. Russia later accepted the territory, which it had long wanted. Crimea has been a fairly poor region that felt neglected and discriminated against by the western portion of Ukraine. Many in Donbas also have felt neglected (or worse) by western Ukraine and have long wanted to be closer to Russia.<\/p>\n

Many of those in Crimea (other than the Tartars) and Donbas believed that they would be better off with Russia who wanted them than Kiev who claims to want to keep them, but apparently had not shown them enough signs that it would truly be able to help them.<\/p>\n

The USA would not accept the vote by the Crimeans primarily because it seems to want to stop Russia from expanding. The USA pushed for international sanctions with Europe, many of which still remain, in an effort to hope Russia would release Crimea to Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The USA\u2019s position seemed to be based mainly on politics as opposed to its professed belief in democracy.<\/p>\n

Even though the USA and many in Europe have wanted Russia to leave Crimea, on March 18, 2019, I posted:<\/p>\n

It remains my view that Crimea and at least parts of eastern Ukraine will ultimately align with Russia.<\/p>\n

International sanctions will not stop biblical prophecies from being fulfilled. (Thiel B. \u2018Putin in Crimea as Russia Marks Five Years Since Annexation\u2019 the \u2018Kings of the Medes\u2019 will arise.<\/a> COGwriter, March 18, 2019)<\/p>\n

And the events of the past couple of days confirmed my view that sanctions would not stop Russia from having territories align with it. The sanctions recently announced by the USA and the Europeans look to be announced as political punishment, as opposed to being announced by those who seriously believe that they will get Russia to cede the Donbas back to Ukrainian control (it would probably take a pro-Russian government in Keiv for Russia to do that).<\/p>\n

Perhaps it should also be mentioned that on the Sabbath of February 5, I did a sermonette where I mentioned that lands associated with Ukraine would be confederate with Russia:<\/p>\n

Russia, Ukraine, Babylonian Europe, and Prophecy<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The situation between Russia and Ukraine has again heated up, although it has been tense since the Euromaiden protests and Russia\u2019s annexation of Crimea. There was later a separation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the Russian Orthodox Church. Is war prophesied for Russia and Ukraine? Are prophecies in the Bible associated with the \u2018kings of the Medes\u2019 and a power from the \u201cnorth country\u201d related to any in Russia and Ukraine? Is a confederation of powers from the north, east, and central Asia prophesied to destroy the coming end time European Babylon? Will the destruction be reminiscent of what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah? How is the King of the North and who will destroy him? Do those in Russia and Ukraine have a hope of salvation? Will Russia and powers of the east be involved in the gathering in Armageddon as prophesied in Revelation 16? Dr. Thiel addresses these issues.<\/span><\/p>\n
