Gospel Compromisers and Man Pleasers<\/strong><\/p>\n

As we approach the day of our Lord’s glorious return, Satan must know his days are numbered because he continues to blind the minds of unbelievers from the light of the Gospel and the glory of Christ. He also has also recruited a growing number of Christian leaders who are compromising the true Gospel and denying its exclusivity. Satan knows that any distortion of the true Gospel has no power to save anyone (Rom. 1:16).<\/p>\n

Gospel Compromisers Overemphasize God’s Love<\/em><\/p>\n

The Father of Lies has many willing partners who foolishly remove the essentials of the Gospel to make it more inclusive. They do this for the purpose of drawing a larger following, gaining more influence, and being loved by more people. This man-pleasing gospel makes people feel comfortable in their sin because it overemphasizes God’s love while ignoring His holiness, justice, and hatred of sin. Such a distortion of the Gospel has become popular because it exalts man and his importance and diminishes God and His significance.<\/p>\n

Man Pleasers Seek Unity with a Compromised Gospel<\/em><\/p>\n

After the apostle Paul condemned anyone who would preach a distorted gospel, he warned those who would seek to please men over God (Gal. 1:6-10). Yet, there are many man pleasers today who seek to reverse the Reformation by embracing Roman Catholicism as a valid expression of Christianity. Their unwillingness to defend the exclusivity of the Gospel is a stark contrast to the many Reformers who were tortured, beaten and burned at the stake for refusing to compromise the Gospel. We are also alarmed at the many “Christian” podcasters who have Catholics on their shows to promote their heretical books and resources.\u00a0These man pleasers, who embrace and endorse Catholics without challenging their errors, leave their own convictions and beliefs open to question. They need to know that we will all be held accountable for the souls who are misled by our refusal to contend for the faith.\u00a0It is for this reason we have pleaded with fellow believers to please God over man and protect the exclusivity of the Gospel.<\/p>\n

Compromisers Are Meeting Very Little Resistance<\/em><\/p>\n

Tragically, Gospel compromisers and man pleasers are getting very little resistance from blood-bought Christians who are called not only to proclaim the Gospel, but also to protect it against the evil deeds of darkness (Eph. 5:11). The willingness of born-again Christians to put up with “another Gospel” is tragic. Paul admonishes us to repent of such apathy with a strong rebuke. He wrote: “If someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit\u00a0from the one you received, or if you accept a different Gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it” (2 Cor. 11:4). We must contend earnestly for the one and only Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ because so much is at stake. What hope does the next generation have if we do not guard the treasure which has been entrusted to us (2 Tim. 1:14)? We must be like Paul, who did not yield in subjection to false brethren for even an hour, so that the truth of the Gospel would remain with us (Gal. 2:5).<\/p>\n

The Victims of Gospel Compromisers Are in Peril<\/em><\/p>\n

We must have a growing compassion for false converts who have been deceived by false Gospels.\u00a0 …<\/p>\n

An Urgent Call to Contend for the Gospel …<\/em><\/p>\n

Why Do So Few Find the Narrow Path?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The broad path looks more inviting because it is a way that seems right to man, but its end is death (Proverbs 14:12). Jesus pleaded with people to strive to enter God\u2019s Kingdom and be set free from Satan (Luke 13:24; 2 Tim. 2:26). Only the truth will set captives free, and only when they abide in God\u2019s Word will they know the truth (John 8:31-32).<\/p>\n

Many gullible people fall prey to false teachers because of their deceptive appearance. As servants of Satan, they \u201cdisguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds\u201d (2 Cor. 11:15). Like anything that is counterfeit, the goal is to fool people. False teachers mask their deceptive lies with an air of religious authority. They hide their fatal Gospel under a thin veneer of truth, but what\u2019s inside is deadly poison. They often hide their blasphemies and heresies with illogical arguments and traditions of men. They have no fear of God and twist and distort His Word to their own destruction (2 Peter 3:16).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Although I DO NOT AGREE that gospel compromisers overemphasize God’s love (God’s love is infinite, but compromisers do not understand it nor properly teach it), I do agree that, overall, compromisers of the Gospel meet little resistance. That is part of why most of the professing Christians in the world do not understand the true Gospel.<\/p>\n

That said, Mike Gendron is correct that the false ecumenical, interfaith, “gospel” is gaining in acceptance. God is only calling a relative few in this age (see the free ebook Is God Calling You?<\/a>), yet will call all others in the age to come (see the free ebook: Universal OFFER of Salvation, Apokatastasis: Can God save the lost in an age to come? Hundreds of scriptures reveal God\u2019s plan of salvation<\/a><\/span>).<\/p>\n

And as the Apostle Jude wrote, true Christians are, “to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 3-4). True believers believe and teach the true Gospel of the Kingdom of God, which is Jesus as our Saviour and soon coming King!<\/p>\n

Let me add that one of the earlier ‘false gospels’ was put forth by Marcion of Sinope<\/a> in the 2nd century A.D. He taught against many books of the New Testament, against the original faith, against the Sabbath, and against the coming millennial reign of the Kingdom of God on the earth. On those last three points, the bulk of the world’s compromised churches agree with Marcion.<\/p>\n

The greatest attacks on the Gospel today are the frequent attempts by evangelicals to make it more inclusive to everyone who has ever been baptized. Many are seeking to broaden the narrow road by embracing and promoting apostate forms of Christianity. Some undiscerning Christians have been seduced by the pope’s aggressive ecumenical agenda to reverse the Reformation<\/a> and unite all professing Christians under the papacy. Part of the pope’s strategy is to look for soft targets within the evangelical church who will promote Roman Catholicism as a valid expression of Christianity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Tragically, his strategy has been successful and is gaining a great deal of traction. Most recently, Al Mohler<\/a>, Carl Truman, Russell Moore<\/a> and Matt Chandler<\/a> have recommended a disturbingly popular book written by Rod Dreher, who is a major promoter of Roman Catholicism, ecumenical unity, and contemplative prayer. Dreher is a former Catholic who converted to the Eastern Orthodox religion, not because of Rome’s false gospel, but because of its sexual abuse scandal. His book, The Benedict Option<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, calls people of faith to emulate a sixth-century Catholic monk as an example of how to live in a collapsing culture. Almost all the heroes of The Benedict Option <\/strong><\/em>are Catholic monks who lived solitary lives in a monastery while participating in the daily sacrifice of a Eucharistic Christ<\/a>.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Like most proponents of ecumenism, Dreher promotes subjective spiritual experiences over the objective truths of Scripture. He said he never had a problem with praying the rosary as a Catholic, and he now encourages his readers to practice contemplative prayer and mysticism. He said “my life is shaped around liturgy that’s been in our church for 1500 years” and “on all kinds of sensual ways that embody the faith.” His Eastern Orthodox religion preaches the same works-righteousness salvation as Catholicism and other religions. We are not to affirm or receive “anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ” (2 John 9-10).<\/div>\n

For evangelical leaders to recommend a book that applauds the heretical people and traditions of Roman Catholicism during the 500th anniversary of the Reformation is lamentable. The prevailing influence of these leaders, along with their reluctance to guard sound doctrine and reject false gospels, have left many Christians confused. They do not know if the Roman Catholic Church represents a huge mission field that needs to be evangelized or if it represents a valid expression of Christianity. They need to know that Catholicism has long been a bitter enemy of the Gospel of Christ. The apostate religion has not<\/span> only condemned those who believe<\/a> the Gospel, but brutally tortured<\/a> and killed hundreds of thousands of those who refused to compromise it. Evangelical leaders who are sanctioning ecumenical unity with Catholics must be lovingly confronted in their error with the truth of God’s Word.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In a troubling<\/span> interview with Al Mohler<\/a>, Dreher said, “the West owes an incalculable debt to those Benedictine monks.” Mohler does acknowledge there are differences between their two faiths, but he said evangelicals can learn from people of the Orthodox and Catholic faith who embrace a different gospel. The apostle Paul did not encourage Christians to learn from the Judaizers who were distorting the Gospel and leading them away from Christ (Gal. 1:6-9). Mohler says the book encourages living together in a way that is “truly Christian” yet he never defines what a true Christian is, or the Gospel that a true Christian must believe. Mohler stated, “The book is very important. I want to commend it to every thinking Christian. We ought to read this book, and we ought also to read far beyond the title.” Yet, there was a glaring omission both in the book and in the interview by Mohler and Dreher. Neither one referenced the most powerful tools Jesus Christ gave us to fight the cultural wars – His Word and His Gospel (Hebrews 4:12; Romans 1:16).<\/div>\n

Evangelicals who endorse a book that obfuscates the lines that once separated biblical Christianity from apostate Christianity are minimizing the powerful effect of error. The accommodation of doctrinal error and falsehood will always be dangerous to the life of the Church that is called to be sanctified by the truth (John 17:17). God’s Word warns us to “be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness” (2 Pet. 3:17). The critical issue in the church today is the purity of the Gospel. It is the rudder that must guide us through stormy waters that have been stirred up by every wind of doctrine (Eph. 4:14). Either we seek the approval of God by protecting the purity of the Gospel or we seek the approval of men by applauding those who peddle another gospel. There is no “option.”<\/span><\/div>\n

As blood-bought Christians, we must contend earnestly for the faith and challenge those who embrace a false gospel. If we fail to fight the good fight of faith, we leave our own convictions and beliefs open to question. There is so much more at stake than winning cultural wars. We are also fighting the age-old war against truth waged by the powers of darkness. The truth of God’s Word is our only hope in in a world spinning out of control. We must endeavor to defend the glory and honor of our Lord Jesus Christ, the purity of His Gospel, and the sanctity of His Church.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

While I do not agree with various Protestant misunderstandings of the true gospel, it is true that ecumenical and interfaith forces, promoted by the Vatican, Eastern Orthodox, and various Protestants, are not contending earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints.<\/p>\n

The Apostle Paul warned that people were turning aside to a false gospel:<\/p>\n

\n
6<\/span> I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, <\/span>7<\/span> which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. <\/span>8<\/span> But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. <\/span>9<\/span> As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. <\/span>10<\/span> For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. <\/span>11<\/span> But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.<\/span> (Galatians 1:6-11)<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As far as living in a collapsing society, the Bible teaches that the patience of the true saints is to endure, despite what is happening:<\/p>\n

12 Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. 13 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. (Mark 13:12-13)<\/p>\n

9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. (Revelation 13:9-10)<\/p>\n

12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. (Revelation 14:12)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Bible does not promote ‘the Benedict option.’ Plus, it promotes the Gospel of the Kingdom of God<\/a> which few who claim Christianity actually understand and teach\u2014Jesus will return as King of Kings and eliminate the governments of this world.<\/p>\n

There has been a lot of ‘reconciling’ discussions between the Church of Rome and the Protestant churches the past several years. Despite the fact that there are a lot of major theological matters that they disagree on, they are seeking closer unity.<\/p>\n

Part of the reason is that many leaders do not consider the theological differences as important as the objective of unity.<\/p>\n

The Bible warns against the type on ecumenical unity that the Vatican and others are working towards. The type of unity that they are working towards is not biblical. It is ‘Babylonian’ (cf. Revelation 17). And will result in idolatry and hero worshiping (cf. Revelation 13).<\/p>\n

In the future, something false will cause more unity in the world:<\/p>\n

7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thessalonians 2:7-12)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As far as this end time unity goes, Christians are warned to be separate from it:<\/p>\n

4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities…” (Revelation 18:4-5)<\/p>\n

14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:<\/p>\n

“I will dwell in them
\nAnd walk among them.
\nI will be their God,
\nAnd they shall be My people.”<\/p>\n

17 Therefore<\/p>\n

“Come out from among them
\nAnd be separate, says the Lord.
\nDo not touch what is unclean,
\nAnd I will receive you.”
\n18 ‘I will be a Father to you,
\nAnd you shall be My sons and daughters,
\nSays the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Real Christians will be separate from those that truly will not be set apart by the truth of the Bible (John 17:17).<\/p>\n

The type of Christian unity that the Bible speaks of will NOT happen until after Jesus returns per Ephesians 4:13.<\/p>\n

The Continuing<\/em> Church of God<\/a>, which is NOT Protestant, traces its history from the apostolic church established in Acts 2 and holds to the original, biblical doctrines that the early Christians had (see Continuing History of the Church of God<\/a>).<\/p>\n

We proclaim the true Gospel of the Kingdom of God<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Many biblical doctrines that early Christians held to are NOT held to by Protestants today. Nor the Church of Rome or the Eastern Orthodox for that matter.<\/p>\n

Those interested in the truth can prove this if they are willing.<\/p>\n
