NUUK\/COPENHAGEN\/BERLIN<\/span> (own report) \u2013 Conducting war exercises in and around Greenland, several European NATO countries, including Germany, are demonstrating their opposition to the United States\u2019 demand for annexation of the Danish island. President Donald Trump has repeatedly affirmed his desire to incorporate Greenland into the US and has not ruled out the use of military force. Several American intelligence agencies have initiated initial subversive activities to identify supporters and opponents of the United States in Greenland and to stir up some initial unrest. Following a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Greenland\u2019s capital Nuuk in mid-June, a German naval supply ship, \u2018Berlin\u2019 arrived there for the first time. Nils Schmid, Parliamentary State Secretary in Germany\u2019s Ministry of Defence, also travelled there to convey the message that for Berlin, \u201cthe security of Greenland\u201d is not just a matter of \u201clip service\u201d. The exercises, led by Denmark, are intended to signal future EU support for preventing a US annexation. They are also part of a militarisation of the Danish island that is gaining momentum …<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

\u2018A strong signal\u2019<\/h3>\n

Other European countries have now begun to back Denmark against the US, not only with words but also with military gestures. At the end of January, the chair of the EU Military Committee, Austrian General Robert Brieger, was already advocating the stationing in Greenland of troops from EU member states. …<\/p>\n

\u2018Not just lip service\u2019<\/h3>\n

In mid-August, Germany also made its presence felt in Greenland. On 16 August, the \u2018Berlin\u2019, a naval tanker supply ship, was the first ever German warship to enter the port of Nuuk. The official reason given was to conduct North Atlantic anti-submarine exercises. These involve manoeuvres to practise the prevention of Russian submarines from passing through the \u2018GIUK gap\u2019 (Greenland, Iceland, United Kingdom) into the North Atlantic, where they would be able to attack military supplies from North America to Europe in the event of war. In fact there was another aim: to demonstrate a military presence in Greenland. On 18 August, Nils Schmid, Parliamentary State Secretary in the German Defence Ministry, also arrived in Nuuk. Schmid went on board the Triton, a patrol ship of the Royal Danish Navy, which was moored there, to hold talks with Denmark\u2019s Minister of Defence, Troels Lund Poulsen, and Greenland\u2019s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Vivian Motzfeld. In a joint statement, they said that not only \u201cstability in the Arctic\u201d but also \u201cthe security of Greenland\u201d and \u201csolidarity with our allies\u201d were \u201cfor us, not just lip service\u201d.[5] A visit by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius to Nuuk has been announced for September.<\/p>\n

Manoeuvres without US troops<\/h3>\n

At the beginning of last week, several European NATO countries began military exercises in and around Greenland. The manoeuvres are scheduled to last until the end of this week. Troops from Norway, Sweden, France and Germany are taking part in \u2018Arctic Light 2025\u2019, a war exercise led by Denmark. A total of around 550 soldiers are reported to be involved. There are land, sea and air units from Denmark; a warship, tanker aircraft and a drone-equipped infantry unit from France, and primarily military observers from Germany. American troops are not participating in these manoeuvres. …\u00a0the manoeuvre strengthens the European presence in Greenland and can be seen as taking a stand against the United States 09\/17\/25\u00a0https:\/\/www.german-foreign-policy.com\/en\/news\/detail\/10116<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Donald Trump is shaking up a lot of nations. While he may think all that he does is good, or even great, the fact is that there will be many unintended consequences of his statements, threats, and policies.<\/p>\n

He is pushing away allies and offending a lot of them. More and more are seeing him act as a bully–and the European Union is taking steps.<\/p>\n

Donald Trump\u2019s foreign policy statements have unsettled many\u2014in the USA as well as foreign nations. He is believed by many to be more unpredictable than Richard Nixon. Many have rightly pointed out that he often acts as a bully.<\/p>\n

Greenland<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is also something referred to as the \u201claw of unintended consequences.\u201d There are consequences for the USA, Europe, and elsewhere that have and will occur because of Donald Trump\u2019s statements and actions.<\/p>\n

Consider, for one example, that after his reelection, Donald Trump stated that the United States needed to have Greenland for defense and economic purposes. Not only did that offend the governments of Denmark and Greenland, the Danish government then announced that it would greatly increase the amount of money it would spend on the defense of Greenland.[i]<\/a><\/p>\n

On January 7, 2025, Donald Trump refused to rule out military or economic actions to acquire Greenland.[ii]<\/a> The next day, European leaders warned they would not tolerate an attack on Greenland and that the continent of Europe was strong.[iii]<\/a><\/p>\n

Donald Trump then stated he would implement high tariffs against Denmark to try to get it to sell Greenland to the USA.<\/p>\n

However, that overlooks the fact that the European Union has its Anti-Coercion Instrument, which is designed to stop a foreign power from trying to punish one EU nation. Because of that, analysts report that punitive tariffs against Denmark \u201ccould lead to unintended consequences\u201d from the EU against the USA.[iv]<\/a><\/p>\n

One longer term consequence of Donald Trump\u2019s rhetoric may be that the Europeans could decide that Greenland would be a useful place to conduct surveillance on the US and Canada.<\/p>\n

Additionally, it is also possible that Greenland could be used as a base to 1) interfere with US military satellite communications, 2) possibly neutralize some US military moves in Greenland, or even 3) a place to also launch an attack against the US, Canada, and\/or even the UK. The Bible teaches about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2)\u2014some statements by Donald Trump are pushing \u201cfriends\u201d (NATO allies) into being enemies. …<\/p>\n

The USA will be attacked by \u201cfriends\u201d consistent with the following:<\/p>\n

1\u00a0<\/sup>How lonely sits the city
\nThat was full of people!<\/p>\n

How like a widow is she,
\nWho was great among the nations!<\/p>\n

The princess among the provinces\u00a0Has become a slave!<\/p>\n

2<\/sup>\u00a0She weeps bitterly in the night,
\nHer tears are on her cheeks;
\nAmong all her lovers
\nShe has none to comfort her.<\/p>\n

All her friends have dealt treacherously with her;
\nThey have become her enemies. cf. Lamentations 1:1-2).<\/p>\n

Notice the one who was \u201cgreat among the nations\u201d will be conquered by friends, who will become enemies.<\/p>\n

The USA was prophesied to be \u201cgreat\u201d in Genesis 48:19 and is considered by international sources to be great among the nations of the world today.[v]<\/a><\/p>\n

European Union wants to be militarily independent of the USA \u2013 check, European Union wants a larger military \u2013 check, European Union wants nukes \u2013 check, European Union wants this for defensive purposes \u2013will Europe acquire a great army? Will Europe defeat the Biblical King of the South? Is Europe the King of the North? Will Europe defeat the King(s) from the east? Here\u2019s a big question \u2013 will Europe conquer the United States of America? Is the United State of America mentioned in the Bible? EU steps up global trade push beyond US<\/h2>\n

The EU is accelerating its efforts to expand its global trade network with a wave of new partnerships, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is crucial for us that our companies continue to have access to the (US) market, and with the agreed all-inclusive cap of 15%, they will be in a very competitive position,\u201d she said at a business meeting in Berlin, referring to the latest trade agreement with Washington.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we should also bear in mind that 80% of our trade with countries takes place outside the US.”<\/p>\n

Von der Leyen said the EU aims to finalize a trade agreement with India by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in discussion with South Africa, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates, and there are others,\u201d she added, also citing recent trade deals signed with Mexico, Switzerland, and Mercosur\u2014a South American bloc that includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.<\/p>\n

Trade Wars \u2013 and the Winner will be \u2026<\/a><\/h3>\n

US President Trump imposed tariffs on a global scale. Those tariffs were imposed on friend and foe alike. It seems as if President Trump is no respecter of nations. But how will this work out for the United States? Will these tariffs result in other nations drawing closer together that have had rather cold, and even not so cold, relations in the past?
