In recent months, the EU has suffered the most serious diplomatic defeats. This will only change in the future if the member states possess greater military power, Karl-Heinz Paqu\u00e9 writes in an opinion article for Euronews.<\/h3>\n

It was a picture of misery and humiliation for the European Union. At the end of July 2025, Ursula von der Leyen and Donald Trump unveiled the outcome of their so-called tariff negotiations in Scotland: Washington’s 15% tariffs.<\/p>\n

In return, Europe promised massive investments in the US \u2013 for nothing more than an assurance from Trump that his threat of even higher duties would not be carried out.<\/p>\n

In other words, it amounted to little more than outright blackmail, with no genuine negotiation on equal terms. Further setbacks for Europe may now be looming.<\/p>\n

One case in point is the “Greenland affair”: Trump has bluntly threatened \u2013 without regard for international law \u2013 to annex the vast island, buy it, or lure Greenlanders with financial incentives so generous that Denmark would be unable to compete. …<\/p>\n

The core problem is straightforward: Europe’s NATO members simply lack the power to deter a unilateral US act of aggression through credible threats in advance \u2013 let alone to reverse it afterwards with a military response.<\/p>\n

The same applies in the economic sphere. If the EU were to threaten the US with a hard trade war, Washington could at any time call into question its NATO security guarantees, with potentially devastating consequences for Europe’s security vis-\u00e0-vis Putin’s Russia. …<\/p>\n

It is therefore clear that even within NATO, Europe can no longer rely on the United States. The only consequence is this: Europe must rearm on a massive scale.<\/p>\n

The benchmark of 5% of GDP for defence agreed at the NATO summit in 2025 is an important step in the right direction. …<\/p>\n

Since the Bible says Europe will have a \u201cgreat army\u201d (Daniel 11:25), Europe will end up with a great army. <\/span><\/p>\n

Donald Trump\u2019s rise, along with Russia\u2019s \u2018Special Military Operation\u2019 into Ukraine, has encouraged some in Europe to more publicly promote this idea. Donald Trump seems to be a catalyst for that and other militaristic moves in Europe.<\/span> …<\/p>\n

Although, overall, the European nations have not paid for their defense to the amount they have suggested they would, pressuring them to spend more will 1) encourage them to be independent of the USA and 2) put Europe in a position where it has a great army (Daniel 11:25), many ships (Daniel 11:40), and access to nuclear weapons (cf. Deuteronomy 29:23-25; Isaiah 9:19-21;Ezekiel 6:6), which will help it conquer the USA, which is the military power with the strongest fortresses (cf. Daniel 11:39).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The two parties likely to form Germany\u2019s next government have agreed to borrow hundreds of billions of euros to boost defence and infrastructure. Their plan involves bypassing the incoming Bundestag by pushing through the deal before the new parliament takes shape.<\/p>\n

The ambitious plan of investing up to \u20ac1 trillion in the country\u2019s defence capabilities over the next decade\u2014half of it directly in the armed forces and the other half in wider defence infrastructural development\u2014hinges on the incoming CDU-SPD grand coalition\u2019s ability to convince the Greens to support a constitutional change that would enable them to circumvent budget deficit rules and rack up national debt. …<\/p>\n

The decision to circumvent the debt brake and borrow heavily once again highlights how the centre-right is hoping to appease the Left in order to gain power.<\/p>\n

\u201cFriedrich Merz is using the opportunity to buy his way to power,\u201d conservative media outlet\u00a0Apollo News<\/em>\u00a0said<\/a>, criticising the CDU leader for conceding to the Left, breaking his campaign promise of maintaining the debt brake, and putting \u201can enormous additional burden\u201d on the taxpayers. https:\/\/europeanconservative.com\/articles\/news\/cdu-spd-constitutional-amendment-defence-infrastructure-spending-bypassing-new-bundestag\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Europe will support “trans-Atlantic cooperation” as long as it feels that it needs to–but its goal is military independence from the USA.<\/p>\n

In 2025, the\u00a0<\/span>ReArm Europe<\/span>\u00a0\/\u00a0<\/span>Readiness 2030<\/span> initiative was agreed to by the European Union. It is in active implementation<\/span>\u00a0focusing on boosting EU defense by mobilizing massive investments (around \u20ac800bn target), easing fiscal rules for defense spending via the Stability and Growth Pact’s escape clause, and coordinating joint procurement to close capability gaps (drones, ammo, etc.) by 2030, with initial funding already approved for several member states in early 2026, aiming for faster, more unified European defense production.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

One of the reasons for this is that there has been a shift going on in Europe. Notice also:<\/p>\n

Germans no longer see US as trustworthy partner<\/h2>\n

The conservative\u00a0CDU<\/a>\/CSU<\/a>\u00a0and the center-left\u00a0SPD<\/a>, the parties\u00a0most likely to form the next government<\/a>\u00a0after the recent\u00a0German election<\/a>, have\u00a0already agreed on massive investments<\/a>\u00a0into Germany’s ailing infrastructure and the military.<\/p>\n

A credit-financed special fund is to be set up for this purpose. In order to be able to incur debt for higher defense spending, the\u00a0debt brake<\/a>\u00a0enshrined in in the Basic Law, Germany’s constitution,\u00a0is to be relaxed.<\/p>\n

These plans generally meet with broad public approval, according to Infratest-dimap’s monthly representative survey of 1,325 eligible voters conducted from March 4 to March 5. …<\/p>\n

US no longer\u00a0reliable<\/h3>\n

Trump has been back in office for only six weeks and has already been calling into question core policies, which is having a massive impact on how Germans view Trump and the United States.<\/p>\n

One in two respondents to the infratest poll say their opinion of Trump\u00a0has worsened since he took office. Just one in seven expresses a favorable opinion of the US president. The United States’ reputation is plummeting to new lows.<\/p>\n

This month only one in six voters described the US as a partner who Germany can trust. Three quarters believe that\u00a0NATO<\/a>\u00a0members cannot currently rely on\u00a0the\u00a0United States for protection.<\/p>\n

The Germans polled are not skeptical of NATO itself: 84% said that the North Atlantic defense alliance is important for securing peace in Europe. Nevertheless, there is growing support for greater European independence. One in two said they favor establishing a European military alliance. https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/germans-no-longer-see-us-as-trustworthy-partner\/a-71858094<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It has long been my view that Europe will likely attack the USA and\/or the UK under the guise of a NATO (or some other defense treaty) military exercise and that is consistent with the following prophecy about the coming European King of the North Beast:<\/p>\n

23\u00a0And after the league is made with him he shall act deceitfully<\/strong>, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people. 24\u00a0He shall enter peaceably<\/strong>, even into the richest places of the province; and he shall do what his fathers have not done, nor his forefathers: he shall disperse among them the plunder, spoil, and riches; and he shall devise his plans against the strongholds, but only for a time. (Daniel 11:23-24, NKJV)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Notice that he pretends peace then devises a plan against the strongholds. This looks to be a reference to the nation with the strongest military, the \u201cstrongest fortresses,\u201d that Daniel 11:39 shows he will conquer\u2013that is the USA and its British-descended allies (see also\u00a0USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses<\/a><\/span>).<\/p>\n

While now is not the time \u2013 \u201cthe end it not yet\u201d (Matthew 24:6; see also When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?<\/a>) \u2013 many in Europe are unwittingly taking military steps that will allow this come to pass.<\/p>\n

A Brussels Reich? Van der Leyen\u2019s \u2018ReArm Europe\u2019 Plan<\/h2>\n

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has introduced the \u201cReArm Europe\u201d initiative. The ReArm Initiative represents an extensive \u20ac800 billion strategy designed to enhance Europe\u2019s defense capabilities and a strategic response to increasing global uncertainties<\/strong> …<\/p>\n

She warns about the\u00a0\u201cdangerous times\u201d\u00a0that characterize the present and, even more likely, the future. \u201cI do not need to describe the grave nature of the threats that we face. Or the devastating consequences that we will have to endure if those threats would come to pass\u201d because, she points out, \u201cwe are in an era of rearmament,\u201d and at this stage, the EU intends to respond with a\u00a0five-point European rearmament plan, the name of which \u2014 Rearm Europe \u2014<\/strong> already suggests much. https:\/\/21stcenturywire.com\/2025\/03\/04\/brussels-reich-van-der-leyens-rearm-europe-plan\/<\/a>

Let me add Ursula von der Leyen is also German.<\/p>\n

Notice something about Germany’s history published decades ago by the old Worldwide Church of God:<\/p>\n

In 1933 Adolf Hitler, using Germany’s growing economic crisis as a stepping-stone to power, gained control of Germany, inaugurating the Third Reich of German history.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

It quickly became clear that Hitler’s geopolitical aims far transcended his own country’s borders. Hitler held an unshakable conviction that his German Reich would one day rule all of Europe \u2014 and from there seize the leadership of the world! He dreamed of a “new world order” that would remake the political face of the earth, with himself at its helm.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1939 Hitler began in earnest his struggle for the mastery of the world. (Stump K. Coming Soon – A New World Order. Good News, 1985)
\n<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Adolf Hitler used an economic crisis to rise up and form his so-called third reich.<\/p>\n

Could there be some type of a ‘fourth reich’ this century to follow the ‘third reich’ of last century?<\/p>\n

The old Radio Church of God thought so, even decades earlier:<\/p>\n

The “German Problem” is not dead. Germans are thinking more than ever of an undivided Reich – and of an undivided Europe! … On the 17th of June, Germans celebrated a national holiday a day dedicated to AN UNDIVIDED GERMANY. Stores closed. No one worked. The striking thing is that this day signifies something that has not happened yet! Most holidays commemorate an event – something that has already taken place. Not this one – it looks forward to an event which all Germans hope for and even pray for – AN UNDIVIDED GERMANY! (Kelly R. The March for an Undivided Germany. Plain Truth, September 1964)

Well, since that came out, East and West Germany united, the European Union formed, and a European currency has been implemented.<\/p>\n

So, is a ‘fourth reich’ in the process of forming? Some in Germany and elsewhere seem to think so.<\/p>\n

Now this does not mean that everyone in Germany wants it to militarily dominate the world, but Bible prophecy shows that deep down, those there do want to dominate.<\/p>\n

Notice the following prophecy:<\/p>\n

5 \u201cWoe to Assyria, the rod of My anger
\nAnd the staff in whose hand is My indignation.
\n6 I will send him against an ungodly nation,
\nAnd against the people of My wrath
\nI will give him charge,
\nTo seize the spoil, to take the prey,
\nAnd to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
\n7 Yet he does not mean so,<\/strong>
\n Nor does his heart think so;<\/strong>
\n But it is in his heart to destroy,<\/strong>
\n And cut off not a few nations<\/strong>.
\n8 For he says,
\n\u2018Are not my princes altogether kings? (Isaiah 10:6-8)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Notice that the leader of the final empire will not think that he wants to destroy nations, but he really does, and really will.<\/p>\n

Notice that Isaiah tells of a time when the end time Assyrian power will be sent against an ungodly nation (NKJV), translated as “an hypocritical nation in the KJV. The Hebrew word used signifies being \u201csoiled\u201d or impious, and certainly that is now the case for the nation known as the United States.<\/p>\n

What exactly is the ‘fourth reich’? Notice one interpretation:<\/p>\n

The Fourth Reich<\/strong> (German: Viertes Reich<\/em>) is a theoretical future German empire, following the First Reich (the Holy Roman Empire, 962\u20131806), the Second Reich (Imperial Germany, 1871\u20131918) and the Third Reich (Nazi Germany, 1933\u20131945). (Wikipedia, accessed 04\/03\/15)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Some believe that Germany already has had a type of fourth reich as it has been able to dominate European matters at least for the past decade or so.<\/p>\n

Biblically, the final European<\/a> King of the North<\/a> will lead a revived ‘Holy Roman Empire.’ This will be the empire of the Beast power of Revelation 13. This new world order, which will have German dominance, will in a sense be its fourth militaristic reich (reich means reign).<\/p>\n

The Bible prophesies that Europe will have a \u201cgreat army\u201d (Daniel 11:25), various weapons, and\u00a0 “many ships” (Daniel 11:40).<\/p>\n

Furthermore, technology will, in my view, be key in the establishment of a militaristic fourth reich, consistent with scriptures such as Revelation 13:4. And yes, Europe is working on military-related technologies.<\/a><\/p>\n

A Beast power is prophesied to arise from Europe after various crises (cf. Revelation 6:1-8; 13:1-4).<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Bible tells of a time when that European leader will defeat many (Daniel 11:39-43) and also dominate the world economically (Revelation 18). Germany will be a major factor in this although there will be problems in Europe (Daniel 2:41-43). Yet, after some reorganizations it will arise (Revelation 17:12-13).<\/p>\n

Should Europe Still Consider Itself a US Ally?<\/a><\/h3>\n

The United States has paused aid to Ukraine. Europe is nervous and wonders about the United States\u2019 commitment to European security is unclear. Some leaders in Europe \u201cagree they must strengthen their defense capabilities\u201d. Europe is dedicating huge amounts of money to weapons. And Europe\u2019s military technology is advancing. Revelation 13 tell us of a militaristic \u201cbeast with a mortal head wound\u201d \u2013 this is Europe. The Bible asks \u2013\u201cwho can make war with the beast?\u201d Is WWIII on the horizon? What nation is Lamentations 1:1-2 referring to who will be betrayed by her “friends”–and who are her \u201cfriends\u201d that become her “enemies”?
