EU Selects SUPREME Consortium to Develop The Union\u2019s Superconducting Technology<\/h2>\n

February 2, 2026<\/p>\n

PRESS RELEASE \u2014 The European Union has granted EUR 25 million to the SUPREME consortium, marking a significant milestone in industrialisation of superconducting quantum technologies across Europe. Together with national funding from the member states, the total funding adds up to 50 million Euros. Key objectives of the initiative include developing stable superconducting technology and giving access to it for both industry and academia. The first phase will commence in early 2026 and span three and a half years, bringing together 23 partners from eight Member States.<\/p>\n

SUPREME is launched with the mission to industrialise superconducting quantum technologies and strengthen Europe\u2019s position as a global leader in quantum innovation. The aim is to develop scalable and stable fabrication processes for superconducting quantum devices and make them accessible to European SME\u2019s, large enterprises, startups and academia.<\/p>\n

The project has a total budget of approximately EUR 50 million, with funding provided equally by the EU Chips Joint Undertaking and national funding agencies. The funding has been approved to cover the first phase of the initiative, spanning 3,5 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis initiative has been set to strengthen the European quantum ecosystem. We will make sure that the innovations developed through SUPREME can be widely adopted by businesses across Europe, ultimately delivering significant market impact. To support this, we will execute on an ambitious roadmap, which will guide and accelerate the industrialisation of superconducting quantum technologies\u201d, says\u00a0Pekka Pursula<\/strong>, Vice President for Microelectronics and Quantum Technology at VTT and coordinator of the SUPREME consortium.<\/p>\n

The key objective is the development of stable technologies and giving access to them for industry and academia. A significant milestone will be fabrication and demonstration of a 3D-integrated qubit module containing 200 qubits. This will showcase the improved stability, higher yield and improved reproducibility of the key fabrication processes for superconducting quantum chips.<\/p>\n

SUPREME focuses on developing and validating key quantum processes, including angle-evaporated junctions, etched junctions, 3D integration and hybrid processes for applications in quantum computing, quantum sensing and quantum communication. The aim is to reach technology readiness level TRL 6 and manufacturing readiness level MRL 6.<\/p>\n

Enabling European industry growth and innovation<\/strong><\/p>\n

To maximise impact, SUPREME will make its fabrication processes available for companies by offering piloting services. Access to the technologies will be given through Process Design Kits (PDKs) and pilot runs to enable companies to design and develop their own quantum devices and systems.<\/p>\n

Shared fabrication runs are particularly beneficial for early-stage companies, allowing sharing the cost of full wafer fabrication run between many users. Process design kits (PDKs) provide design rules and validated process specifications.<\/p>\n

SUPREME is committed to strengthen Europe\u2019s position in quantum technology by building the basis for European technology sovereignty for superconducting quantum technologies. Over the past five years, Europe has invested over \u20ac2 billion in quantum research and innovation. In July 2025, the European Commission published its Quantum Strategy<\/a> (\u201cStrategy<\/strong>\u201d), which aims to support the development of quantum computing-enabled products and services in the EU, and thereby improve the EU\u2019s competitiveness in the quantum computing and technology markets. NVIDIA today announced that the JUPITER supercomputer, powered by the NVIDIA Grace Hopper\u2122 platform, is the fastest in Europe \u2014 delivering a more than 2x speedup for high-performance computing and AI workloads compared with the next-fastest system.<\/p>\n

Soon capable of running 1 quintillion FP64 operations per second, JUPITER is on track to be Europe\u2019s first exascale supercomputer. The system enables faster simulation, training and inference of the largest AI models \u2014 including for climate modeling, quantum research, structural biology, computational engineering and astrophysics \u2014 empowering European enterprises and nations to drive scientific discovery and innovation.<\/p>\n

Among the top five systems on the TOP500 list of the world\u2019s fastest supercomputers, JUPITER is the most energy efficient, at 60 gigaflops per watt.<\/p>\n

As has been known for years, the advancement of quantum computers \u2014 an entirely new form of computing power based on the principles of quantum mechanics \u2014 could render existing data encryption methods obsolete in the future.<\/p>\n

However, the date when this unprecedented threat to data could manifest, referred to as \u201cQ-Day,\u201d is impossible to predict. That has made preparing for the transition to post-quantum cryptography difficult to prioritize for many organizations.<\/p>\n

Instead, many of the standards setters are targeting 2030 as the timeframe for the shift to post-quantum cryptography, at least for essential IT assets.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re all making recommendations on, at a minimum, moving your most critical workloads to quantum resistance by 2030,\u201d said Ted Shorter, CTO of identity security vendor Keyfactor, which provides capabilities for assembling a cryptographic inventory.<\/p>\n

But a risk with this supercomputing and quantum computing is how the coming Beast power will use it.<\/p>\n

For example, the monitoring the buying and selling of everything is something that quantum or other computers can do.<\/p>\n

The Bible shows that a European power will arise that will control buying and selling:<\/p>\n

When the Apostle John penned the above, such control of buying and selling was not possible.<\/p>\n

However, with supercomputers, quatum computing, AI, financial surveillance plans, and digital payments, it is now.<\/p>\n

A while back, the European Union announced it was launching surveillance software (see \u2018The EU is allowing the linking of face recognition databases to create a mega surveillance system\u2019 666 infrastructure being put into place<\/a>).<\/p>\n

And, now, it looks to be closer to having the supercomputer quantum hardware to make it more of a reality.<\/p>\n

So, yes, there is an enforcer.<\/p>\n

Now there is hardware, more surveillance software, and massively faster computation ability.<\/p>\n

Persecution will come.<\/p>\n
