Iranian President Ahmadinejad is discounting the effectiveness of trade sanctions against his nation:<\/p>\n

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday that his country’s economy would not be damaged by newly imposed Western sanctions, AFP reported. \u201cAt one point our trade with Europe was around 90 percent but now it is only approximately 10%, and even this 10% we don’t need… History has shown that the Iranian nation can not be hurt [by Western sanctions],\u201d Ahmadinejad said.<\/p>\n

Ahmadinejad’s comment came just one day after he agreed to increase bank interest rates<\/a> on bank deposits up to 21%, hoping to halt a spiraling currency crisis intensified by the new sanctions. \u00a0http:\/\/www.jpost.com\/IranianThreat\/News\/Article.aspx?id=255250<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While the Iranian President seems to wish to brag that Iran’s economy will not be harmed, the reality of a 21% rate of interest suggests otherwise.\u00a0 Furthermore, one of Iran’s major trading partners is Syria, another nation subject to European and other sanctions, these sanctions will affect Iran as well.\u00a0 While China is a large trading partner and is opposed to the sanctions, Iran is not such a needed partner for China<\/a> that it will not consider switching sides if the international cost of trade with Iran gets too high.<\/p>\n

The President of Iran seems himself to want to calm Iranians for the time being.\u00a0 But he\u00a0does not actually wish to promote peace, as that is not his agenda (see Iran\u2019s Ahmadinejad Does Not Want Peace<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Perhaps it should be mentioned that the President of Iran believes that ultimately it is his special calling to create enough chaos in order to stimulate the arrival of an Islamic leader that he and others refer to as the Imam Mahdi. This leader is supposed to unite Islam and root out problems within its religion.\u00a0 But Iran is not quite ready for that yet, though its leadership believes that the Iman Mahdi has made his presence known (Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: World Order About to Collapse, Mahdi Behind it<\/a>) and it hopes that he will become publicly known soon (see Iran\u2019s Leader Preparing for \u2018Armageddon\u2019 and the Imam Mahdi<\/a>).<\/p>\n

For various reasons, the Imam Mahdi sounds a lot like the final King of the South that the Bible foretells (Daniel 11:40-43). And he may be part of a deal that will affect the USA and its Anglo-allies (Psalm 83). And this will not be good.<\/p>\n
