Edward Snowden claims that the surveillance efforts by the NSA make Americans less safe:
MOSCOW — Former National Security Agency systems analyst Edward Snowden says surveillance programs used by the United States to tap into phone and Internet connections around the world are making people less safe.In short video clips posted by the WikiLeaks website on Friday, Snowden said the NSA mass surveillance he revealed before fleeing to Russia “puts us at risk of coming into conflict with our own government.”
Snowden, who faces espionage charges in the U.S. over the leak, described the techniques as “dragnet mass surveillance that puts entire populations under sort of an eye that sees everything even when it’s not needed.”
“They hurt our economy. They hurt our country. They limit our ability to speak and think and live and be creative, to have relationships and to associate freely,” Snowden said…

While I cannot condone certain of Edward Snowden’s acts, I do agree that the USA should be going after its high level officials who have repeatedly lied to the public about the government’s surveillance activities. And, since I have never considered that the “Patriot Act” was patriotic, it is good that its author wants to scale it back.
Interestingly, former US President Jimmy Carter stated in an interview in Germany a few months ago that Edward Snowden’s revelations about USA espionage had been ‘useful’ (see International survey reflects rise of China’s power and influence, and some USA issues).
Snowden revealed more about the extent of USA espionage on its own citizens as well as apparently almost as many as it could spy upon elsewhere.Because of the vast amount of surveillance and information gathering that the US government does, at some point in time it may decide that one or more statements made by those associated with groups like the Continuing Church of God are unacceptable. Enough so, that this will trigger a famine of the word of God (Amos 8:12). It seems possible, and even likely, that some day the executive branch of the US government directly through relying on an ‘executive order’ or indirectly through some other agency, will take steps that will limit the public expression of religious speech, including prophetic speech.
Despite claims of transparency (the US President put out an official memo: “Transparency and Open Government My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government…”), much involving the USA’s government (and others) happens secretly, and includes surveillance. God’s people are to pray for protection from ‘secret plots’:
2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
3 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows — bitter words,
4 That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear. (Psalms 64:2-4)

Will USA Spying Help the Beast Power? Various allegations have surfaced about the United States government spying on its own citizens as well as its supposed allies in the European Union. Whether or not all the espionage allegations are true, and the main ones have not been publicly denied by the government of the USA, the reality is that this does have prophetic ramifications and will help the Beast of Revelation. The USA is placing itself in a position to be taken over and its response to the allegations will make it easier for the Europeans to do so.
