Cannibalism is Wrong, But it is Coming!

Does cannibalism make sense?

Is cannibalism healthy?

Is it going to make a comeback?

Is cannibalism a curse that will reappear?

What does the Bible say?

(Here is a link to a related video: Cannibalism is prophesied!)

Before getting to scripture, notice the following:

August 22, 2019

Since cannibalism is found throughout the animal kingdom and therefore is something natural, perhaps it is time for humans to rethink the “ultimate taboo” against eating human flesh, Newsweek proposes in an article …

There is nothing necessarily unethical or unreasonable about eating human flesh, declare psychologists Jared Piazza and Neil McLatchie of Lancaster University ...

While not going so far as to recommend cannibalism, saying “there is no need to overcome our repulsion for the foreseeable future,” the two authors suggest that humans could master their aversion for human flesh if they needed to.  https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/2019/08/22/newsweek-time-to-rethink-taboo-on-cannibalism/

August 20, 2019

In insect species such as the praying mantis or the Australian redback spider, males offer their bodies as a final gift to females after mating.

It’s more common than you’d think in mammals too. Many rodent mothers may eat some of their young if they’re sick, dead, or too numerous to feed. Bears and lions kill and eat the offspring of adult females to make them more receptive to mating. Chimpanzees sometimes cannibalize unlucky rivals, usually infants, seemingly for the mere opportunity of some extra protein.

For humans though, cannibalism is the ultimate taboo. In fact, our aversion to cannibalism is so strong that consent and ethics count for little. …Though accusations of cannibalism have often been falsely made to demonize groups, it isn’t absent from human history. The Fore people of Papua New Guinea were reported to have participated in funerary cannibalism, believing it better that the body was eaten by people who loved the deceased than by worms and maggots. Parts of mummies were eaten for medicinal purposes in post-Renaissance Europe.

We suspect that we could adapt to human flesh if need be. Many people develop disgust for all kinds of meat, while morticians and surgeons quickly adapt to the initially difficult experience of handling dead bodies. Our ongoing research with butchers in England suggests that they easily adapt to working with animal parts that the average consumer finds quite disgusting. https://www.newsweek.com/cannibalism-animal-kingdom-ultimate-taboo-humans-1455287?utm_source=Twitter&utm_campaign=NewsweekTwitter&utm_medium=Social

No, it is not natural to eat humans and ethics should count a lot. It is wrong to eat humans.

Some realize this and have called out Western academics for this:

August 31, 2019

The thought-leaders and philosophers of the Western world have recently turned their attention to a rather radical method of reducing our carbon footprint and self-regulating the Earth’s population. ...

’ Far away from the real world, professors steeped in postmodernism – a doctrine that reigns supreme in social science departments and rejects notions of objective reality – have been suggesting for some time that we embrace our inner beast and break the taboo.

“Cannibalism occurs in every class of vertebrates,” wrote American Museum of Natural History researcher Bill Schutt in ‘Cannibalism: A Perfectly Natural History.’ After discussing which wine pairs best with human placenta, Schutt mused whether one day food shortages and overcrowding might lead us to eat our own. The New York Times, incidentally, called the book “refreshing.” Additionally, researchers at UC San Diego declared in 2017 that as cannibalism helps limit the spread of disease in some species, it could benefit us too.

“We are flipping the paradigm, with regards to cannibalism,” the researchers said, with an accompanying press release from the university declaring “For some populations, cannibalism may be just what the doctor ordered.”

While actual scientists research the nitty-gritty of eating corpses, social scientists busy themselves pondering its cultural significance. Last year, a conference was held at the University of Warwick, entitled “Bites Here and There,” where such topics as “Help Yourself: Autophagy as Response to Global Crises,”“Cannibalism and Intimacy,” and “‘Ethical’ Foodways: Justifying Cannibalism in Contemporary Speculative Fiction” were discussed.

Despite persuading their test subjects with several moral and ethical arguments in favor of cannibalism, the authors of one research paper packed it in when they found that, no matter what the circumstances, these subjects refused to eat human flesh. However, they did offer a ray of hope for aspiring autophagists, noting that while chowing down on corpses disgusts us “for now,” we should “be able to adapt to human flesh if need be.” https://www.rt.com/news/467685-cannibalism-promoted-by-academics/

Cannibalism is now even touted as a solution to climate change:

September 4, 2019

A Swedish behavioral scientist has suggested that it may be necessary to turn to cannibalism and start eating humans in order to save the planet.

Appearing on Swedish television to talk about an event based around the “food of the future,” Magnus Söderlund said he would be holding seminars on the necessity of consuming human flesh in order to stop climate change.

Environmentalists blame the meat and farming industry for a large part of what they claim is the warming of the earth.

According to Söderlund, a potential fix would be the Soylent Green-solution of eating dead bodies instead. https://summit.news/2019/09/04/swedish-behavioral-scientist-suggests-eating-humans-to-save-the-planet/

Soylent Green was a 1993 movie that showed a crowded society(supposedly in 2022) that encouraged people to give themselves up to die. Their bodies then became a food called Solyent Green. While the government in the movie tried to keep this quiet, people finally found out what was happening.

Before getting into some biblical ethics, consider the following from the US National Library of Medicine:

Kuru

Kuru is a disease of the nervous system.

Causes

Kuru is a very rare disease. It is caused by an infectious protein (prion) found in contaminated human brain tissue.

Kuru is found among people from New Guinea who practiced a form of cannibalism in which they ate the brains of dead people as part of a funeral ritual. This practice stopped in 1960, but cases of kuru were reported for many years afterward because the disease has a long incubation period. The incubation period is the time it takes for symptoms to appear after being exposed to the agent that causes disease.

Kuru causes brain and nervous system changes similar to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Similar diseases appear in cows as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), also called mad cow disease.

The main risk factor for kuru is eating human brain tissue, which can contain the infectious particles. https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/001379.htm accessed 08/22/19

Cannibals often eat brains and there is even a disease that is caused by it. As far as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) goes, it is a form of brain damage that leads to a rapid decrease of movement and mental function. It is horrible.

Cannibalism is unhealthy.

As far as ethics go, the Bible gives information on what types of flesh can be eaten by humans:

2 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘These are the animals which you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth: 3 Among the animals, whatever divides the hoof, having cloven hooves and chewing the cud — that you may eat. 4 Nevertheless these you shall not eat among those that chew the cud or those that have cloven hooves: the camel, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, is unclean to you; 5 the rock hyrax, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, is unclean to you; 6 the hare, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, is unclean to you; 7 and the swine, though it divides the hoof, having cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. 8 Their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch. They are unclean to you…10 But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you. 11 They shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. 12 Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales–that shall be an abomination to you.13 ‘And these you shall regard as an abomination among the birds; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard, 14 the kite, and the falcon after its kind; 15 every raven after its kind, 16 the ostrich, the short-eared owl, the seagull, and the hawk after its kind; 17 the little owl, the fisher owl, and the screech owl; 18 the white owl, the jackdaw, and the carrion vulture; 19 the stork, the heron after its kind, the hoopoe, and the bat. 20’All flying insects that creep on all fours shall be an abomination to you…24 ‘By these you shall become unclean; whoever touches the carcass of any of them shall be unclean until evening; 25 whoever carries part of the carcass of any of them shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening: 26 The carcass of any beast which divides the foot, but is not cloven-hoofed or does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. Everyone who touches it shall be unclean. 27 And whatever goes on its paws, among all kinds of animals that go on all fours, those are unclean to you. Whoever touches any such carcass shall be unclean until evening. 28 Whoever carries any such carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening. It is unclean to you. 29’These also shall be unclean to you among the creeping things that creep on the earth: the mole, the mouse, and the large lizard after its kind; 30 the gecko, the monitor lizard, the sand reptile, the sand lizard, and the chameleon. 31 These are unclean to you among all that creep (Leviticus 11:2-8,10-19,24-30).

3 “You shall not eat any detestable thing. 4 These are the animals which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat, 5 the deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the mountain goat, the antelope, and the mountain sheep. 6 And you may eat every animal with cloven hooves, having the hoof split into two parts, and that chews the cud, among the animals. 7 Nevertheless, of those that chew the cud or have cloven hooves, you shall not eat, such as these: the camel, the hare, and the rock hyrax; for they chew the cud but do not have cloven hooves; they are unclean for you. 8 Also the swine is unclean for you, because it has cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud; you shall not eat their flesh or touch their dead carcasses. …10 And whatever does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you…12 But these you shall not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard, 13 the red kite, the falcon, and the kite after their kinds; 14 every raven after its kind; 15 the ostrich, the short-eared owl, the seagull, and the hawk after their kinds; 16 the little owl, the screech owl, the white owl, 17 the jackdaw, the carrion vulture, the fisher owl, 18 the stork, the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe and the bat. 19 Also every creeping thing that flies is unclean for you; they shall not be eaten (Deuteronomy 14:3-8.10,12-19).

Humans do not chew cud, have cloven hooves, fins, or scales. Human flesh is not to be eaten.

Although some feel that Christians can eat unclean meats, Paul wrote:

7 For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:7).

Peter added:

9…the Lord knows how…10 to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority (2 Peter 2:9-10).

Some, sadly, despise biblical authority to eat whatsoever they lust after.

Uncleanness is defined and referred to in the Old Testament. And the New Testament points to the Old Testament in various aspects of uncleanness.

Notice there were three reasons given in the Bible for avoiding unclean animals:

45 You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. 46 'This is the law of the animals and the birds and every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps on the earth, 47 To distinguish between the unclean and the clean, and between the animal that may be eaten and the animal that may not be eaten' (Leviticus 11:45-47).

Notice that God wanted people to be holy, to know the difference between clean and unclean, and to know which animals may and may not be eaten. Are Christians supposed to be a holy people?

Certainly:

9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; (1 Peter 2:9).

Furthermore, notice something else that the Apostle Peter wrote:

15 ...not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 16 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." (1 Peter 1:15-16).

Now where is that first written in the Bible to be holy because God is holy?

It is Leviticus 11:44 & 45 where God is talking about avoiding unclean meat!

The statement Peter quoted about being Holy as God is holy is repeated just three more times in the Hebrew Bible, the first in Leviticus 19:2 where it then discusses the Sabbath and the second in Leviticus 20:7 where it teaches about not being involved with witchcraft and then keeping God's statutes. Does your church teach that you are to be holy as God? Does it also teach that a sign of being unholy would be eating biblically unclean meats or violating the Sabbath?

The final time is in Leviticus 20:25-26 where God explains about avoiding unclean animals and being holy. So what could Peter have been talking about? The only subjects from the Old Testament could have unclean meat, the seventh-day Sabbath, or the statutes in the Law, including witchcraft. However, the context says to avoid lusts. Lust is unlawful desire. Apparently Peter is including desires such as eating that which is unlawful--and that would include human flesh!

The Bible also teaches:

2…Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good (Isaiah 55:2).

God did not intend humans to be a food for human beings.

Yet, Bible prophecy shows that cannibalism will affect the end time descendants of Israel (for their identities, check out the article Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel):

19 “Arise, cry out in the night, At the beginning of the watches; Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift your hands toward Him For the life of your young children, Who faint from hunger at the head of every street.” 20 “See, O Lord, and consider! To whom have You done this? Should the women eat their offspring, The children they have cuddled? (Lamentations 2:19-20)

15 “But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:

16 “Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the country.

17 “Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.  …

54 The sensitive and very refined man among you will be hostile toward his brother, toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the rest of his children whom he leaves behind, 55 so that he will not give any of them the flesh of his children whom he will eat, because he has nothing left in the siege and desperate straits in which your enemy shall distress you at all your gates. 56 The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because of her delicateness and sensitivity, will refuse to the husband of her bosom, and to her son and her daughter, 57 her placenta which comes out from between her feet and her children whom she bears; for she will eat them secretly for lack of everything in the siege and desperate straits in which your enemy shall distress you at all your gates. (Deuteronomy 28:15-17; 54-57)

Because of sin and despising God’s laws, such problems will ultimately strike the Anglo-American lands. But those nations still have some time. But their time will run out as the Bible warns that there will be food shortages and serious food inflation:

5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” (Revelation 6:5-6)

And that time could come within the next decade or so.

The old Worldwide Church of God put out the following related to cannibalism:

Cannibalism in Prophecy

In Leviticus 26:29 God says:

“And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.”

This prophecy is repeated in Deuteronomy 28 with added details:

“You will have to eat your own children, the flesh of the sons and daughters which the Eternal your God has given you… He who is most tender and dainty among you will grudge the food even to his brother, to the wife of his bosom, and to his remaining children, refusing any of them any part of the flesh of his own children which he means to eat… she who is most tender and dainty among you, who would not venture to put the sole of her foot to the ground — so tender and delicate is she — will grudge even to the husband of her bosom, to her son and to her daughter, the after-birth of her womb and the babes she has borne; these she will eat herself in secret, so famished is she…” (verses 53-57, Moffatt).

The Prophet Jeremiah, writing about the same end-time events “in the day of the Lord’s anger” (Lam. 2:22) states: “Little children and tiny babies are fainting and dying in the streets. ‘Mamma, Mamma, we want food,’ they cry, and then collapse upon their mother’s shrunken breasts” {Living Prophecies, verses 11-12).

“Shall the women eat their fruit, and children of a span long [the foetus]?” the prophet asks. The pathetic answer is that they will do just that!

This is not going to happen in some far-off underdeveloped country with barbaric natures — it’s prophesied to occur in your country, your city, your street! Can you comprehend it? Can you believe it? Most won’t. But it is prophesied!

The Grim Totals

The Prophet Ezekiel wrote after ancient Israel had already gone into captivity. The events he foretold could not possibly apply to them. But Ezekiel’s prophecies do apply to us today. Chapters 4 through 7 say much about the coming famine which we have already covered.

However, chapter 5 adds a detail not yet mentioned. It says:

“One third of you will die from famine and disease… I will shower you with deadly arrows of famine to destroy you. The famine will become more and more serious until every bit of bread is gone” (verses 12, 16 Living Prophecies).

That scripture means what it says! One out of every three people in Britain and America will die of famine or disease! That includes one out of every three of your countrymen — friends, relatives, loved ones. Revelation 6:5-8 shows that this unprecedented famine is not restricted to the English-speaking countries — the entire earth will suffer, hundreds of millions will perish!
Where does that leave you? Where will you be when this awesome famine strikes? How can you and yours escape this sure prophecy? That all depends — on you!

You CAN Escape

God said through His prophet Amos:

“‘I sent you hunger but it did no good; you still would not return to Me. I ruined your crops by holding back the rain… Yet you wouldn’t return to Me. I sent blight and mildew on your farms and your vineyards; the locusts ate your figs and olive trees. And still you wouldn’t return to me,’ says the Lord… ‘Therefore I will bring upon you all these further evils I have spoken of. Prepare to meet your God in judgment, Israel” (Amos 4:6-9, 12).

Make no mistake about it. The coming famine will be horrible beyond description. But if we don’t heed even then, famine will be just the beginning of God’s punishment. And the prophecies show that as nations we won’t heed.

You as an individual, however, can heed. You can prepare to meet your God NOW. But no one else can take your place and stand for you. You stand alone in this matter.

God told Ezekiel:

“Son of dust, when the people of this land sin against Me, then I will crush them with My fist and break off their food supply and send famine to destroy both man and beast. If Noah, Daniel and Job were all living today, they alone would be saved by their righteousness, and I would destroy the remainder of Israel, says the Lord God” (Ezek. 14:13-14, Living Prophecies).

God says that when He sends other punishments this same principle will still apply —

“Even if these three men were living, the Lord God swears that it would do no good — it would not save the people from their doom. Those three only would be saved, but the land would be devastated” (verse 16)!

You can’t be saved by the righteousness of another person. No association with a righteous man or group of men — regardless of how close — will save you if you, yourself, are unrighteous and disobedient to God. No one else can be righteous for you. No one can obey God in your stead.

Does God like to see people suffer? Does He enjoy punishing people or bringing famine? Of course not. God loves people. But God sees that our wicked ways are bringing these punishments upon us!

God set a law in motion long ago. That law says that those who obey it will be blessed and prospered as a result. But those who break it will themselves be broken! Transgression does not pay!

God wants us to obey His Law which was ordained for OUR GOOD — OUR WELFARE.

In Ezekiel we read,

“Cast away from you all your transgressions, by which you have transgressed against me, and make you a new mind and heart and a new spirit. For why will you die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies, says the Lord God.

Therefore turn — be converted—and live!” (Ezekiel 18:31-32, Amplified Version).

With great compassion and love God cries out,

“‘As I live,’ says the Lord God, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked but that the wicked turn from his way and live; Turn back, turn back from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?'” (Ezek. 33:11, RSV.)

What You Can Do

The cause of the onrushing time of famines, pointed out plainly in the Word of God, is sin — transgression of God’s Law (I John 3:4). Unless our nations repent of breaking that eternal, spiritual law, famine is inevitable. Unless we return to God, and obey Him, there is no escape!

To trust in America’s vaunted “food surpluses” is the height of foolishness. Grain elevators of wheat will not save you. There is only one way of escape — turning to God!

Notice this final command from God to you as an individual concerning the sins of modern Israel — her pride, arrogance, and law-breaking:

“Come out from her, my people, so that you may not share in her sins, neither participate in her plagues” (Rev. 18:4, Amplified).

This is the only way of escape from famine and the other plagues of God! There is no other way. God’s protection and deliverance are the only answer.

Notice what God says about those who love and obey Him.

“Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those of us who reverence the Lord will never lack any good thing” (Psalm 34:10, Living Psalms’).

“Day by day the Lord observes the good deeds done by godly men, and gives them eternal rewards. He cares for them when times are hard; even in famine, they will have enough” (Psalm 37:18-19, Living Psalms).

“I have been young and now I am old. And in all my years I have never seen the Lord forsake a man who loves Him; nor have I seen the children of the godly go hungry” (verse 25).

These are God’s promises! You can trust Him! But it will do no good to attempt to “hoard” food for yourself to protect yourself from the coming days of famine. Proverbs speaks about hoarders: “People curse the man who holds his grain for higher prices, but they bless the man who sells it to them in their time of need” (Proverbs 11:26, Living Proverbs). But we also read in Proverbs this wonderful promise:

“The Lord will not let a good man starve to death” (Proverbs 10:3).

To obtain God’s divine protection in the days ahead, you must obey God now—you must seek His righteousness.

The very purpose of this magazine is to help you understand what God requires of you — show you the way. But you must make the decision to heed and obey.

Don’t make the same mistake the world is making. Don’t trust in hoarded goods or stored foods, or physical things to save you. Don’t look to “grain surpluses” — Look to God!!! (Walter EM, Famine in Prophecy. Tomorrow’s World, November 1969)

While physically preparing for emergencies is wise, do not think that you will be able to properly physically prepare for what is coming if you do not get your spiritual life in order. Do not delay!

The map at the beginning of this post showed that cannibalism was present in Australia, New Zealand, and North America in the 19th century.

Some cannibalism will return to those lands in the 21st century!

It will not be good.
