“Strong Dollar”…”Weak Dollar”…What About A Gold-Backed Dollar?

The US dollar has been dropping in value against the Euro since early last Summer. It has had ups and downs this week. Here is something related to the Trump Administration, the dollar, and gold:

“Strong Dollar”…”Weak Dollar”…What About A Gold-Backed Dollar?

February 9, 2018

The recent hullabaloo among President Trump’s top monetary officials about the Administration’s “dollar policy” is just the start of what will likely be the first of many contradictory pronouncements and reversals which will take place in the coming months and years as the world’s reserve currency continues to be compromised.  So far, the Greenback has had its worst start since 1987, the year of a major stock market reset.

A modern-day reenactment of the famous “our currency, your problem” play that went over so extremely well in the 1970s… [PT]

The brief firestorm was set off by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin who said in response to the dollar’s recent slide:

“Obviously, a weaker dollar is good for us, it’s good because it has to do with trade and opportunities.”*

Mnuchin backtracked a bit as international financial leaders criticized the apparent shift in policy while Administration officials sought to clarify the Secretary’s remarks.  President Trump weighted in on the matter saying:

“Ultimately, I want to see a strong dollar” and added that Mnuchin’s comments were “taken out of context.”

While President Trump sought to allay jittery currency markets that monetary policy had not changed, candidate Trump supported the Federal Reserve’s suppression of interest rates and did not want to see a rising dollar:

“I must be honest, I’m a low interest rate person. If we raise rates and if the dollar starts getting too strong, we’re going to have some very major problems”.**

Of course, the entire uproar about a strong dollar versus weak dollar is a sham. When the dollar (and for that matter all other national currencies) cannot be redeemed for either gold or silver, it is inherently “weak” and ultimately worthless.

That this obvious fact is not recognized by the Trump Administration, international monetary authorities, and the financial press demonstrates just how unstable the dollar and world currencies actually are. https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-02-08/strong-dollarweak-dollarwhat-about-gold-backed-dollar

Well, would US politicians mess around with the value of the US dollar for political purposes?

Yes.

Is Donald Trump correct that if interest rates rise a lot this will cause problems for the USA?

Yes.

That is not a new position from me or Donald Trump.

Notice something that I wrote about this in my book Donald Trump and America’s Apocalypse:

Debt is a prophesied problem (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8).

The time will come when the U.S.A. government will no longer be able to borrow at low interest rates and/or it will create more money electronically and/or via the printing press to try to continue.

Make no mistake about it — massive inflation is coming.

The U.S.A. dollar will ultimately crash and be worthless. That “pride” of American power will be broken (cf. Leviticus 26:19). …

There was about $20 trillion of recognized US government debt before Donald Trump took office.

He plans to increase that total. Some think his stated policies will add around $10 trillion to that total (Matthews C. Donald Trump Calls for Exploding the National Debt. Fortune, August 11, 2016).

This is dangerous. Consider also that Donald Trump said because interest rates are “so low”:

[T]his is the time to borrow, and to borrow long term, so that we can have money to rebuild our infrastructure. (Ibid)

Donald Trump also said:

I have borrowed, knowing that you can pay back with discounts. And I have done very well with debt. Now, of course, I was swashbuckling, and it did well for me and it was good for me and all that. …

Now we’re in a different situation with a country, but I would borrow knowing that if the economy crashed you could make a deal. And if the economy was good it was good so therefore you can’t lose. …

I don’t want to renegotiate the bonds, but I think you can do discounting. … I’m not even suggesting that we don’t borrow money at very low rates long term so we don’t have to worry about when they come due. (Kurtzleben D. Donald Trump’s Messy Ideas For Handling The National Debt, Explained. NPR, May 9, 2016)

Nobody knows debt better than me. I’ve made a fortune by using debt and if things don’t work out, I renegotiate the debt. Well, you go back and you say, ‘hey, guess what? The economy just crashed. I’m going to give you back half. (“Trump recession”? Presumptive GOP nominee fires back at Clinton. CBS, June 22, 2016)

It sounds like Donald Trump believes that debt is good and there is nothing wrong with defaulting or otherwise not intending to pay the total debt back.

The Bible says the wicked have that attitude:

21 The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives.  (Psalms 37:21)

Donald Trump has also filed for bankruptcy four times—presumably to not pay back debt, while he claims a financial worth around $10 billion.

He may consider that to be ‘good business,’ but his practices and intents sound biblically immoral.

Donald Trump has voiced concerns about interest rates rising in the USA:

If interest rates go up one percent, that’s devastating. What happens if that interest rate goes up 2, 3, 4 points? We don’t have a country. (Egan M. Donald Trump: ‘I’m the king of debt.’ CNN, May 7, 2016)

The rates Donald Trump is concerned about are not outrageously high. On December 14, 2016, the US Federal Reserve announced that it intended a series of four, at minimum of .25% interest rate hikes, which would at least equal one percent (Tankersley J. Federal Reserve raises interest rates for second time in a decade, expects 3 hikes in 2017. Washington Post, December 14, 2016)—the level that Donald Trump has declared would be “devastating” for the USA.

The USA is walking a dangerous line on its debt that will not end well.

Let us also consider that there is a prophecy in Habakkuk, written about 2600 years ago, about debt which is preceded by the following:

2 Then the Lord answered me and said:

“Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. (Habakkuk 2:2)

The Bible says that the ‘debt prophecy’ in Habakkuk 2 is so significant that those who read it should run—essentially that they should take steps because the results will be horrific. Donald Trump and many other American politicians have not run away from increasing U.S.A. debt—that will be to the nation’s peril.

The Bible  warns  about  something  that  will  happen  to  a

heavily indebted nation. Notice what the Hebrew seer Habakkuk wrote over 2,600 years ago:

3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry … 5 Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, He is a proud man … 6 “Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say, ‘Woe to him who increases What is not his—how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges’? 7 Will not your creditors rise up suddenly? Will they not awaken who oppress you? And you will become their booty. 8 Because you have plundered many nations, All the remnant of the people shall plunder you…” (Habakkuk 2:2-3,6–8).

Notice that what is to happen is so bad, that people who read the prophecy should run, when it is time for it to be fulfilled. Since that prophecy is to be fulfilled at the appointed time of the end, it is still for the future, but perhaps not too far distant in the future. No nation has ever been in as much total debt as the U.S.A.

The USA government officially, again, decided to increase its debt today (see Trump signs new debt increase. Are Americans to soon demand a debt-cancelling Jubilee?). Interest rates have risen and a raise is again expected to be announced next month.

What about gold?

While you cannot eat gold, it has long been considered valuable.

Biblical (Daniel 11:40-44) and non-biblical prophecies point out that the final leader that the Bible calls the King of the North, who will likely have Germanic/Assyrian heritage (cf. Daniel 11:30 with Numbers 24:24), will value gold. Thus, gold is something to watch in these end times.

Notice something that I wrote about this in my book Donald Trump and America’s Apocalypse:

Daniel 11:43:

43 He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels.

The “he” is the King of the North. This is the same King of the North that valued gold and silver in Daniel 11:38. Although other scriptures also show that gold and silver will have value around this time (like Revelation 18; 9:20), the Bible is clear that gold and silver will be worthless for a short time before Jesus returns, e.g. Ezekiel 7:19.

The fact that the King of the North himself will accumulate gold (and some silver) is consistent with several Byzantine (“Greek” Orthodox) prophecies of their expected Great Monarch:

Emperor Leo the Philosopher (died 912): You will amass gold…And you will be the leader of the surrounding nations…

Addressed to Emperor Manuel II Palaeogous (died 1425): The Emperor…will discover gold and silver…

Saint Andrew Fool-for-Christ (c. 4th century): God will reveal to this king all the gold wherever it happen to lay concealed from view…

One side note is that, in Egypt, major gold deposits were found in 2006. This is relevant as it does prove that Egypt now has enough gold that a foreign power could be interested in taking/using it as Bible prophecy teaches.

Since many are now questioning the role of the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency, more are looking into other currencies as well as gold. Gold will set records in US dollar terms.

It has been proposed that various nations around the world are already in the process of accumulating gold to one day overthrow the U.S. dollar—and that the “U.S. is unprepared for this strategic alternative to dollar dominance.”

When the U.S. dollar totally collapses people all around the world will consider that even if the Euro (or something similar) is strong, having a more gold-backed currency would be safer.

The collapse of the USA dollar will shake a lot of the world’s confidence in non-gold backed currencies.

The Europeans do not have to have a perfect currency, only one that is perceived to be in better shape than the USA dollar.

Having the European power acquiring more gold to back the Euro or possibly another future European currency (that might potentially replace the Euro or even a basket of currencies) may greatly increase European credibility, prosperity, and influence around the globe, even if the backing is only implied.

The debt accumulation policies of the Obama Administration, which are a massive acceleration of the previous policies of the Bush Administration, look like they will be continued by Donald Trump.

The increases in America’s debt are heading the world into the time when something other than the U.S. dollar will be valued as its reserve currency.

A Donald Trump Administration would need to make massive changes to possibly prevent this.

The USA and its dollar are at serious risk.

The BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) nations have looked at getting gold to back their financial objectives (see Russia, China and BRICS: A New Gold Trading Network). The Chinese have introduced the beginnings of something that has been called the Gold-Petro-Yuan (watch US Dollar being challenged by Gold-Petro-Yuan.).

Germany is getting more gold–as it repatriated massive amounts of it.

A new world order is starting to develop.

Europe is looking at gold and currency matters. Notice something related to that from the past:

The Euro Talks Gold
Euro advertisements in Europe stress the importance of gold reserves for the euro. First, euro advertisements tout the European public perception that the gold reserves of the Euro-zone nations strengthen the euro and also strengthen Europe’s economy. The euro ads also proclaim that most Europeans believe that gold reserves create confidence for strong economies. Thirdly, the euro ads proclaim that the vast majority of Europeans believe that the ECB should have gold reserves equal to the national gold reserves. And, the euro ads proclaim that the gold reserves of the Euro-zone central banks are the world’s largest and they create public confidence in the euro. The euro advertisements are simple, yet cleverly testimonial. Their effective simplicity is to bind together three ideas; the euro, gold reserves, and economic strength. http://www.gold-eagle.com/article/euro-gold-and-dollar

While the Euro has not replaced the US dollar nor is it truly backed by gold, the Europeans see value in gold and their currency. Their currency is essentially the world’s second reserve currency, behind the US dollar.

But the dollar will not remain on top.

The Bible tells that world trade will be dominated by Europe–and that gold will be involved in that trade (cf. Revelation 18).

The time will come when the USA dollar is worth no more than its scrap value.

Increasing US debt, currency manipulation, and ignoring biblical prophecies will not end well for the USA.
