India hit with Trump’s additional tariffs–it will look more towards Europe–and Europe towards India!
India is concerned about tariffs and trade with the USA:
Donald Trump Tariffs News Live Updates: ‘Indian intransigence’ about opening its markets to American products, says US Economic Council Director
28 August 2025
India is now facing 50% tariffs on its goods exported to the US, with the Donald Trump administration’s 25% additional tariff rate for India coming into effect.
The tariffs (25% + 25%) are a result of the ongoing trade deal stalemate between India and the US and America’s accusations that India’s crude oil trade with Russia is in directing financing the war against Ukraine. India has drawn its red lines for the trade deal and has also made it clear that its energy security is important, thereby refusing to let the US dictate its crude purchase sources. …
Jayesh Patel, a diamond manufacturer, said the US is a big market, so some hurdles are expected. However, he added that Indian traders could explore other destinations if tariffs continue. “Every country has its own policy. If this continues, we might have to scale down our business and find markets in Europe or Russia,” Patel said. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/donald-trump-tariffs-india-news-live-updates-russia-crude-oil-india-us-trade-deal-tariff-impact-pm-modi-china/liveblog/123523828.cms
The EU sees this as an opportunity:
European Trade Chief Expected In India Next Month As Both Sides Race To Unlock Massive Trade Potential Via FTA
August 28, 2025
European Commissioner for Trade Maros Sefcovic is expected to travel to India next month to review the progress of ongoing negotiations for the long-awaited free trade agreement (FTA) with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, reported PTI.
The visit is likely to coincide with the closing stages of the 13th round of talks scheduled in New Delhi from 8 September. With both sides committed to sealing the deal by the end of this year, the upcoming round is seen as a turning point.
“Quite a bit of movement should be there in this round of talks,” an official was quoted as saying, noting that certain outstanding issues may require ministerial intervention and political judgement. …
On 28 February this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed their commitment to wrap up the negotiations by December 2025, giving negotiators a tight window to settle the remaining hurdles. https://swarajyamag.com/news-brief/european-trade-chief-expected-in-india-next-month-as-both-sides-race-to-unlock-massive-trade-potential-via-fta

Could US tariffs drive India closer to the EU?
As both the EU and India seek to secure stable trade relationships amid an increasingly volatile global economy, experts say the threat of high US tariffs on Indian goods could strengthen their mutual interest in finalizing a free trade agreement.
“First of all, the fact that there is no trade agreement between the US and India, then this mindless escalation by [US] President Trump,” Kirkegaard said, “means India’s desire to diversify away from the US and towards the EU has probably increased.
“India now needs a deal with the EU a little more than when it had arguably better ties with the US,” he added.
Mohan arrived at a similar conclusion. “In a roundabout way, I think the shake-up in the India–US dynamic will end up benefiting the EU,” she said. “Given this tariff announcement, India needs reliable and predictable economic partners, it needs investments.” https://www.dw.com/en/will-eu-india-ties-survive-the-latest-russia-sanctions/a-73575924

Contrary to Trump’s tariff tantrum and the frozen vibes that have suddenly enveloped India-US trade talks, the discussions with the European Union (EU) have been proceeding pretty smoothly.
With Trump’s hardening of stance, India now desperately needs to offset the shock of losing out on its biggest trading partner—with major ramifications not just to its exports, but the whole economy itself.
That means it needs to recalibrate and find alternate options quickly. And what better than a market that is almost as big as the US, with whom you have been, coincidentally, already talking? …
“Looking at the rapid progress that we are making, my sense is that we can do it faster than the year-end,” Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had said back in June.
The fast progress this time, besides, of course, the fact that the Trump-induced upsetting of the global trading apple cart requires quick-fix solutions, has prompted both sides to be much more accommodating. After the 12th round of negotiation last month, tentative agreements have already been reached on five broad areas, which include IP, customs and trade facilitation.
It also helped that both sides had agreed to sort out the easier points first, before moving into more contentious issues.
Goyal has said that only a few unresolved issues remain, describing India and the EU as ‘complementary economies.’ …
India, on its part, is quietly updating its rules related to environmental impact, so that it aligns with the EU’s stringent green norms. …
The next round of India-EU talks is scheduled next month, by which time there could be better clarity on the fate of India-US trade, too. https://www.theweek.in/news/biz-tech/2025/08/09/india-s-trade-talks-with-europe-are-going-smoothly-but-this-could-derail-it-india-eu-trade.html
The President of the EU went to India to try to improve commercial ties, trade, with the world’s most populous nation last February (see European Union seeks to improve trade ties with India as it faces Donald Trump’s tariff threats).
More of the world’s nations are starting to look away from the USA for trade. While the EU currently DOES NOT hold truly strong cards when negotiating with the USA, it does when dealing with other nations–and it will do so.
Notice part of number 8 of my list of 25 items to prophetically watch in 2025:
Europe will reach out to various ones in Asia and Africa, as well as Latin America. In the next several years, deals and more trade will occur with Africa, Asia, and Latin America. … in 2025 Europe will work on getting more of the world to accept its standards and trading matters. This will help Europe ultimately dominate trade.
The reelection of Donald Trump will motivate many to trade with each other because of his threats of tariffs, etc. …
While ‘Babylon’ will not fully reign in 2024, with the USA pulling out of trade deals and/or wishing to change them, steps are occurring that are pushing Europe to dominate trade (watch Trade Wars: Are COG warnings coming to pass?).
The final time of the Gentiles is approaching. We are seeing BRICS, the Global South, the EU, and others working on ways to trade and not have to deal with the descendants of Ephraim (UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) and Manasseh (the USA).
The Europeans will work with many nations to secure stronger trade agreements.
This is happening NOW.
Notice part of number 22 of my list of 25 items to prophetically watch in 2025:
Donald Trump will be apocalyptic. At least 20 warnings/predictions I made before his last Administration assumed office came to pass (for details see Donald Trump in Prophecy).
Look for Donald Trump and His Administration to offend the Europeans, cause international trade concerns, push many nations further away from the United States,
We have already been seeing unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s trade statements and policies as the EU, Canada, India, and Latin America are looking more towards trade deals with each other and NOT the USA.
The Bible shows that Europe will, temporarily, dominate trade, which means that the USA will not:
3 … all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury. (Revelation 18:3)
9 The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her … 19 in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! (Revelation 18:9,19)
Europe does not have to be perfect to do this, but perceived for a time as the best economic option for the world.
The Bible also says that Europe will one day dominate international trade (cf. Revelation 17 and 18).
Europe has also been proposing to create or at least change world trade (see EU proposing to set standards for a new (or substantially changed) international trading organization and European Union working on trade and military expansion). The BRICS nations and others are working on ways to trade that does not involve the USA.
Regarding how the international trade situation will end up, earlier this year the The Continuing Church of God put together the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel discussing various views and scriptures about that:
Trade Wars – and the Winner will be …
US President Trump imposed tariffs on a global scale. Those tariffs were imposed on friend and foe alike. It seems as if President Trump is no respecter of nations. But how will this work out for the United States? Will these tariffs result in other nations drawing closer together that have had rather cold, and even not so cold, relations in the past? Will global tariffs result in trade wars? Were the events which are happening predicted by any in the Continuing Church of God? Is Europe drawing closer to China? Is Europe drawing closer to Latin and South America? With the exception of a few of America’s allies, is the net result of these tariffs a worldwide scramble to create new alliances and new trading partners to the exclusion of the United States? What will be the future result of these new alliances? Many of the nations that are now seeking new alliances were just recently America’s allies. They were her friends. Dr. Thiel brings to light the fate of America and her allies at the hands of her former friends, as revealed in the book of Lamentations. As we rapidly approach the end times listen in as Dr. Thiel brings to light world events. Then listen as he shines the light of Bible prophecy directly on the questions raised from these world events.
