Time is running out for American and European trade negotiators working to cut a tariff deal before a July 9 deadline set by US President Donald Trump. …

The summit comes a day after NATO’s European allies agreed to a historic defense spending increase …

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said … “it makes no sense” that the bloc has imposed 18 rounds of sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, but “in a double standard, is not even capable of suspending an association deal.” …

Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal also called for Ukraine to join the 27-member bloc.

“Helping Ukraine means that we should pressure Russia continuously, that means 18th sanctions package as strong as possible, and also enlargement — both Ukraine and Moldova,” he told reporters. …

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized the need to strike a trade deal with the Trump administation as he arrived for his first EU summit in Brussels since taking office in May.

“Europe is facing crucial weeks and months,” Merz said.

“I support the European Commission in all its endeavours to reach a trade agreement with the US quickly.”

US President Donald Trump initially imposed high tariffs on many countries, including EU member states, before temporatily suspending the measures. But the suspensions ends on July 9.

Meanwhile, Merz also underlined the imporance of the EU-Mercosur trade deal with Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. …

Notice the the Mercosur deal was mentioned–that is a shift for the EU towards South America over North America, at least partially because of the election of Donald Trump. As is the fact that the EU nations have agreed to increase military spending.

Towards the end of World War II, the three small European nations of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg agreed to form a trading alliance known as Benelux.

On the surface that may not seem like much, but interestingly, Bible prophecy teaches that a small power in the Europe will expand mainly to the south and the east.

9 And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land. … 17 … the vision refers to the time of the end. (Daniel 8:9,17)

Benelux, itself, became a model for the European Economic Community (EEC), and then the formation of the European Union. This united Europe has mainly expanded south and east of the Benelux nations. Like several other Church of God writers, Gene Hogberg asserted last century that the Benelux nations would be part of the coming Beast power.[i]

Currently, approximately 450 million people are now under a new, single (though not completely united) government, called the European Union, headquartered in the Benelux land of Brussels, Belgium. The coming Beast will have some ties there.

In 1965, the late evangelist Dr. Hoeh taught:

This “little horn” does the same thing as the final “beast” of Revelation 17!  …

Daniel 8 … verse 9: “And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.” …

The little horn in Daniel 8 is none other than … the final “King of the North” described in Daniel 11.[ii]

Note: There is another “little horn” mentioned in Daniel 7:8, which is a reference to a religious leader, which would be the Antichrist—different Hebrew words are used there than in Daniel 8, but translators have often missed the difference.

Anyway, the final King of the North is a European empire that a man, also called the Beast of the Sea will rule in the end times. He will unify Europe in a way that it has never been unified before (cf. Revelation 17:12-13).

While many have noticed that the European Union is not currently getting along that well even amongst its own member nations, the Bible specifically warns that the final European Beast power will be composed of parts that do not hold well together:

41 The feet you saw, part earthenware, part iron, are a kingdom which will be split in two, but which will retain something of the strength of iron, just as you saw the iron and the clay of the earthenware mixed together. 42 The feet were part iron, part potter’s clay: the kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle. 43 And just as you saw the iron and the clay of the earthenware mixed together, so the two will be mixed together in human seed; but they will not hold together any more than iron will blend with clay.  (Daniel 2:41-43).

But, the Bible shows that Europe will stay together for a time under the leader known as the King of the North (Daniel 11:40) and the “Beast of the Sea” (Revelation 13:1-10).

One aspect of EU expansion that is proposed to be discussed at the EU Summit is the Western Balkans.

Note that they are geographically to the south and the east of the original Benelux nations.

And while there are blending issues, the European Union wants them for its expansion.

As far as Russia goes, while some in the EU want more sanctions, others think it is time to go in a different direction:

EU member states should consider resuming contact with Moscow, which was severed after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, French President Emmanuel Macron has told reporters.

According to Macron, despite being fully committed to boosting military capabilities within NATO, the bloc’s European members have no wish to “endlessly” arm themselves and should in the near future negotiate a new security framework with Moscow.

“We are not going to go towards an endless escalation, towards more armament. We must arm ourselves because today there is a gap between our level of armament and that of Russia. And that poses a threat,” Macron stated on Wednesday. …

Macron advised member states to “think about” restoring dialogue with Russia “right now” in order to be able to negotiate broader European security as part of a potential Ukraine peace deal.

Macron made the remarks at the NATO summit in The Hague, where members committed to hiking defense spending to 5% of their GDP annually by 2035 …

Yes, some in Europe want to reduce tensions with Russia.

Furthermore, many in Europe want a military that is independent of the USA–that will NOT end well for the USA per Daniel 11:39 and Isaiah 10:5-11.

The Russians clearly have wanted to cooperate with the Europeans. And yes, this is partially because the Russians would like USA influence reduced–and Europe will do that more than most Russians probably think is possible (cf. Daniel 11:39; Revelation 13:3-4).

That said, notice something that the old Radio Church of God published back in 1962:

United within the ancient boundaries of the Holy Roman Empire; united by the common spiritual bond of universal Catholicism; united in a burgeoning and booming industrial economy that dominates today’s world; united geographically in the most productive and industrial complex of all the earth — at least TEN NATIONS OF MODERN EUROPE WILL MARCH ONTO THE SCENE OF WORLD HISTORY AS THE GREATEST SINGLE HUMAN FORCE EVER SEEN BY MAN! This United Europe will form a nonaggression pact or political alignment of some sort with the Soviet East. …

Modern Europe is counseling and making treaties and alliances and agreements to conquer this earth! … Germany, those living in Germany, even the German government, may not yet know that they are going to join in a treaty with the Russians to destroy the United States and bring it to its knees-it is not in his “heart” to think so, but on the other hand it IS in his “heart” to destroy-the very characteristic of the Assyrian, the modern German, is a harsh, cruel, iron, dedication to militarism and destruction! …

MAN’S ONLY HOPE LIES IN TURNING TO HIS CREATOR GOD!

“At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom. to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, TURN FROM THEIR EVIL, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them… Behold, I frame evil against YOU, and devise a device against YOU: return ye now EVERY ONE from his evil way and make your ways and your doings good!” (Jer. 18:7, 8, 11).

When will a Russo-German deal be made? Here is a quotation from a circular letter issued in September, 1950 by the Nazi Geo-political Center in Madrid:

“However long we may continue to milk the Americans of millions of dollars, there must come the inevitable moment when we shall have to make it crystal clear to them that we are not willing to join the fight against Russia for American interests … (Germany Plots with the Kremlin by T H. Most Americans and Britons are not aware of what Germany and Europe are planning against them. This is partly due to the cunning of German. politics. …

Yes, I, too, expect that Russia will make a deal with the Europeans.

Europe is seeing itself less and less as an ally of the USA.

Should Europe Still Consider Itself a US Ally?

The United States has paused aid to Ukraine. Europe is nervous and wonders about the United States’ commitment to European security is unclear. Some leaders in Europe “agree they must strengthen their defense capabilities”. Europe is dedicating huge amounts of money to weapons. And Europe’s military technology is advancing. Revelation 13 tell us of a militaristic “beast with a mortal head wound” – this is Europe. The Bible asks –“who can make war with the beast?” Is WWIII on the horizon? What nation is Lamentations 1:1-2 referring to who will be betrayed by her “friends”–and who are her “friends” that become her “enemies”? And while some think that European attitudes towards itself and Russia will not harm the US, they are wrong.

Europe will one day reorganize (Revelation 17:12-13), end up with a great army (Daniel 11:25) with many ships (Daniel 11:40), and will one day conquer the strongest military power in the world (Daniel 11:39)–that will be the end of the US and its British descended allies.

The Bible also says that Europe will one day dominate international trade (cf. Revelation 17 and 18).

The European Union is trying to set that up now.

Also, having the Euro dethrone the US dollar will assist with that–and that is something the Europeans are working on now!

There have been and will be many unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s statements and policies.

He is assisting in the prophesied role to make Europe Great Again.
