Evangelical Lutheran Church in America condemns certain scriptures
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ECLA) continues its descent into perdition.
WND reported the following:

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has condemned the Bible verses it doesn’t like. According to a new video, apparently its members believe God made some mistakes along the way.
They have to do with women, verses a spokeswoman in a video protests have to do with “power, privilege, prejudice” “within a patriarchy.” The video was at the 2025 ELCA churchwide assembly.
She condemns the contemporary “Christian church” for being “complicit in the sins of sexism and patriarchy,” and she lists Genesis 3:16, Judges 19, 1st Corinthians 11:3-16 as among those that God must not have really meant to be included in the Bible.
She explains that Lutherans “don’t have to accept literally” the words of the Bible, which she alleges arose in a society that no longer exists. …
The new statement isn’t the first time ELCA leaders have openly condemned the Bible …
A report at Not the Bee turned blunt about the public repudiation of the Scriptures …
It quoted the narrator:
“In the … ELCA, we believe all people are created equally in the image of God. God intends for everyone to flourish. But because of the sin of sexism, women are often deprived of that right … we are called to seek equity and justice for all … The Lutheran commitment to neighbor justice compels us to expose how patriarchy and sexism cause harm to all of creation … This has roots in patterns of power, privilege, and prejudice within a patriarchy …”

Let me add that ECLA does not approve on the anti-LGBTQ scriptures either.

Also in 2015, after the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationally in the US, the office of the presiding bishop released a letter informing members that each congregation is free to marry gay and lesbian couples or to choose not to do so. So, ECLA is supposed to be a “mainline Protestant church.”
ECLA has long been an antibiblical group that pushed antibiblical positions.
For example, notice something from back in 2021:
The Rev. Megan Rohrer made history when they became the first transgender pastor in the Lutheran church. This month, they again broke new ground — this time, as the church’s first transgender bishop.
Rohrer was elected the Bishop of the Sierra Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America earlier this month. Throughout their six-year term, Rohrer will lead the synod, or a geographical grouping of congregations, which includes northern California and parts of Nevada. The Bible condemns both cross-dressing and males being effeminate, which thus condemns:
5 A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 22:5)
9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11, KJV)
But despite sola Scriptura supposedly being the rallying cry of Martin Luther’s movement 500 years ago, scriptural restrictions are something that the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America does not accept.
But it is not just the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Protestantism, overall, does not actually hold to sola Scriptura.– for documented proof, check out our free eBook: Hope of Salvation: How the Continuing Church of God Differs from Protestantism.
And because Protestantism does not sufficiently respect the Bible, it is little wonder that Protestant groups have condemned scriptures and taught it is fine to intentionally and openly practice what the word of God condemns.
While many moderns who do not truly believe scripture, the true faith is not supposed to change with “the times.”
The Bible teaches:
3 … to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints. (Jude 3, Douay-Rheims)
At this time, let’s look at how a Roman Catholic Bible renders some passages in the New Testament:
34 Let women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted them to speak, but to be subject, as also the law saith. 35 But if they would learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is a shame for a woman to speak in the church. (1 Corinthians 14:34-35, Douay-Rheims)
11 Let the woman learn in silence, with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to use authority over the man: but to be in silence. (1 Timothy 2:11-12, Douay-Rheims)
Any pushing for female ministers/preachers, same-sex “marriage, etc. is NOT contending for the faith that was once and for all delivered to the saints as Jude 3 says should be done.
Now, I would add that instead of focusing on what women should not be doing, it is important to understand what they should be doing. For some details, here is a link to a written article titled: Women and the New Testament Church.
In the Continuing Church of God we do not believe that women are to preach nor to read services (although if there are no men available, they can read announcements, etc.).
Women have other roles. Some are deaconesses. Some, for the CCOG, edit, manage websites, manage Facebook pages, do translations, assist with festival planning and coordination, maintain our online radio presence, and/or host groups where we have no males. They also sing, provide music, help put together items related to the Study the Bible Course, and do some writing.

While there are biblically approved roles for women, having them reading church services really is not one.
Sadly, less and less people these days (including the late Pope Francis) take the Bible seriously enough.
