GFP: ‘Lust for power,’ EU’s plan for independent military, and EU’s intended global role

Lust for Power

BERLIN/WASHINGTON/BEIJING(Own report) – The future EU Commission should play a “geopolitical” role and provide the Union with a leading position in global policy, confirmed Commission President Elect Ursula von der Leyen, whose team, according to observers, shows a newfound “lust for power.” Von der Leyen’s plans for the coming five years are very much in line with Berlin’s plans to position the Union as an independent global power between the USA and China. French President Emmanuel Macron shares this project and – in view of the escalating conflict between Washington and Beijing – cautions that, if it fails, all influence on global policy would be lost. Influential German business circles opine that a German-European intermediate position cannot be avoided. …

The Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to induce Germany to bow to US global policy is raising the question in Berlin, as to what extent can Germany implement its own ambitions within the transatlantic alliance. …

According to strategists in Berlin, German interests can only be implemented by establishing an independent German-European global power base, as German elites have long been striving to do. (german-foreign-policy.com reported.[3]) Last week, this view was expressed by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in the Bundestag. In view of the current “great-power rivalry between the United States, Russia and China,” the EU is faced with the “great challenge” of adopting a common stance, Maas declared. There is an opportunity “to make progress on where Europe stands, when it comes to the new great-power rivalry.”[4] The “response to the global challenges … must be a cohesive, European response. Even Germany is too small to provide answers to these challenges.” …

Economic independence

Berlin’s plans are being greeted with approval within the EU. Just recently, France’s President Emmanuel Macron declared “the international order is being disrupted in an unprecedented way.” Currently, “a geopolitical and strategic reconfiguration” is taking place, “in almost all areas,” and “that should prompt us to examine our own strategy.” At the moment, the only two in charge “are the United States of America and the Chinese,” explained Macron on August 27 in a speech at the French Ambassadors’ Conference. The EU “has a choice to make with respect to this major change, this major upheaval: do we decide to become junior allies of one party or the other … or do we decide to be part of the game and exert our influence,” Macron said. …

Global Leader

Stipulations to this effect are already in the “political guidelines” for the next EU Commission, submitted in mid July by the designated President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyan. And according to which “Europe” should “strengthen its unique brand of responsible global leadership” and have “a more united voice in the world.” To be “a global leader,” the EU needs “to be able to act fast:” This is why she will push “for qualified majority voting to become the rule,” insisted von der Leyen.[7] The EU must spend 30% more on external-action investment; The EU budget should be increased to total €120 billion. Although NATO will always be the “cornerstone” of Europe’s collective defence we need further “bold steps towards a genuine European Defence Union.” Among the steps toward this goal, the European Defence Fund should be strengthened, announced von der Leyen. She had declared that the future EU Commission should explicitly play a “geopolitical” role. Note: That the admission that idea of greater reach has long been something German elites have wanted, but they have concluded that Germany is too small by itself, and hence needs others in Europe to go along with it.

Perhaps that is part of why Ursula von dey Leyen, the one who reportedly has the newfound “lust of power,” was elected in a secret ballot to become the European Union Commission President on November 1, 2019.

She caused some migration controversy last week which she addressed this week:

On Monday, soon-to-be president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stood by “Protecting our European Way of Life” as the title for her new migration commissioner, despite calls for it to be dropped because of its similarity to xenophobic slogans used by far-right populists.

In a statement carried by several European newspapers, the former German Cabinet minister said the moniker reflected the values enshrined in the EU treaty and warned that “adversaries of Europe” were threatening these values of “tolerance” and “nondiscrimination.”

“We cannot and must not let others take our language away from us: This is also part of who we are,” she added. …

Critics of the title say that it echoes the rhetoric used by many far-right politicians in their anti-immigration campaigns and that its use in connection with a migration commissioner is particularly loaded. …

The incoming commissioner in question is Greece’s Margaritis Schinas. In her mission letter to him, von der Leyen also spoke of upholding the “European way of life” through the proper management of migration.

Ursula von dey Leyen wants a particular type of Europe. She wants an EU wide military and essentially a European superstate.

The idea of a European superstate is not new.

Notice the following from the late Pastor General of the old Radio/Worldwide Church of God from 1948 and 1982:

In the 21st century, various European leaders have pushed for or pointed to a United States of Europe:

October 2002, French politician Valery Giscard d’Estaing suggested that the name of the European Community should be changed to United States of Europe.
September 2011, the European Parliament had a conference entitled “The United States of Europe – Towards a Transnational Society?”
August 2011, Ursula vonder Leyen said: “My aim is a united states of Europe, run along the lines of the federal states of Switzerland, Germany or the USA.” (Spiegel interview)
September 2011, ex-Chancellor Gerhard Schröder of Germany called for a ‘United States of Europe’ (see Telegraph: Former German Chancellor Demands ‘United States of Europe’, Be Afraid)
June 2012 many called for a ‘United States of Europe’ (see TW, Guido Westerwelle, HWA, and Alan Greenspan on Europe’s Future).
January 2014, Vivane Reding, Vice President of the European Commission campaigned for the EU (European Union) to become a “United States of Europe” will be the “best weapon against the Euro-skeptics” (EU Commissioner calls for United States of Europe!).
October 2016, France’s then Prime Minister Manuel Valls called for a militaristic United States of Europe (see ‘French Prime Minister Argues For United States Of Europe, With Its Own Military’).
December 2017, German political leader Martin Schulz called for a United States of Europe by 2023 (see German call for a ‘United States of Europe’ in five years)–though a later source said 2025 (http://www.dw.com/en/spds-martin-schulz-defends-his-united-states-of-europe/a-41714365).

While the precise name of United States of Europe is not necessary, these statements do show that the Church of God’s basic view has long been correct. The Continuing Church of God, of course, continues to warn about this emerging European Beast power.

Ursula von der Leyen and the coming United States of Europe

In the Summer of 2019, German Defense Minister Urusla von der Leyen was elected through a secret ballot by Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to be the European Union Commission President effective November 1, 2019. She has gone on record in favor of a strong European army independent of the USA as well as for calling for a more integrated Europe. Were these some of the reasons she was selected? Does she believe that Donald Trump and Brexit will help lead to an integrated and armed Europe? Like various other European leaders in the 21st century, Ursula von der Leyen has called for a ‘United States of Europe.’ Since 1948 the old Radio Church of God warned a ‘United States of Europe’ would be formed (though probably without that name). Is that going to happen? What does the Bible teach? Will Europe get its own ‘great army’? Will Europe reorganize under a dictator? Germany wants more global influence.

The Bible shows this will happen.

But it will not happen in a way that will please the USA (Daniel 11:39) or its British-descended allies (Daniel 8:24-25; Isaiah 17:3).
