Are the Iranian protests setting the stage for the fulfillment of Jeremiah 49:34-39?

The Associated Press reported the following:

Iran supreme leader signals crackdown coming as protesters are ‘ruining their own streets’ for Trump

January 9, 2026

Iran signaled Friday that security forces would crack down on protesters, directly challenging U.S. President Donald Trump’s pledge to support those peacefully demonstrating as the death toll rose to at least 50.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei dismissed Trump as having hands “stained with the blood of Iranians” as supporters shouted “Death to America!” in footage aired by Iranian state television. State media later repeatedly referred to demonstrators as “terrorists,” setting the stage for a violent crackdown like those that followed other nationwide protests in recent years.

Protesters are “ruining their own streets … in order to please the president of the United States,” Khamenei said to a crowd at his compound in Tehran. “Because he said that he would come to their aid. He should pay attention to the state of his own country instead.”

Iran’s judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei separately vowed that punishment for protesters “will be decisive, maximum and without any legal leniency.” …

The protests also represented the first test of whether the Iranian public could be swayed by Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, whose fatally ill father fled Iran just before the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. Pahlavi, who called for the protests Thursday night, similarly has called for demonstrations at 8 p.m. Friday.

Could these protests have prophetic ramifications?

Israel365 News asked Marziyeh about the recent popular uprisings against the Islamist regime, and, as is her nature, she framed the political events in a Biblically propheict context.

“To understand the overthrow of the Islamic regime, we can refer to the book of Jeremiah,”
Marziyeh said, citing chapter 49, verses 34-39.

“The word of GOD that came to the prophet Jeremiah concerning Elam, at the beginning of the reign of King Zedekiah of Judah: And I shall bring four winds against Elam from the four quarters of heaven, and scatter them to all those winds. There shall not be a nation to which the fugitives from Elam do not come. Thus said GOD of Hosts: I am going to break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their strength.And I will break Elam before their enemies, before those who seek their lives; and I will bring disaster upon them, My flaming wrath—declares GOD. And I will dispatch the sword after them until I have consumed them.”

She emphasized verse 38:

“And I will set My throne in Elam, And wipe out from there king and officials—says GOD.”

“Even today, Elam is a city in the southwest of Iran in the Khuzestan Province,” Martzyeh noted. “I strongly believe in this prophecy in the book of Jeremiah against Elam as Iran). … the evil rulers of Iran … God … will destroy them all … God says he will send sword after them and will consume them. Protests and civil unrest in Iran are not unexpected.

Nearly 16 years ago, I warned that Iran be neutralized (see Thiel. B. Iran Slams Russia. COGwriter, May 24, 2010).

Nearly 14 years ago, I posted the following here about two ways how that would happen:

I have tended to feel that Iran will be somehow neutralized by either a regional war and/or internal political unrest. (Thiel B. Obama says, ‘I don’t bluff’ and hints of attacking Iran. COGwriter.com, March 2, 2012)

The situation in Iran will change.

Now let’s look again at Jeremiah 49:

34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35 “Thus says the Lord of hosts:

‘Behold, I will break the bow of Elam,
The foremost of their might.
36 Against Elam I will bring the four winds
From the four quarters of heaven,
And scatter them toward all those winds;
There shall be no nations where the outcasts of Elam will not go.
37 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies
And before those who seek their life.
I will bring disaster upon them,
My fierce anger,’ says the Lord;
‘And I will send the sword after them
Until I have consumed them.
38 I will set My throne in Elam,
And will destroy from there the king and the princes,’ says the Lord.

39 ‘But it shall come to pass in the latter days:
I will bring back the captives of Elam,’ says the Lord.” (Jeremiah 49:34-39)

The statements in verse 36 about the four winds and four quarters, combined with the statements in verse 37 about enemies and a sword, have suggested to me that it will likely be a combination of unrest and war that will lead to the overthrow of Iran.

That view is also consistent with prophesies in Isaiah 22:6-8 which points to Iran causing damage to Jerusalem, as Israel has shown a willingness to hit back against Iran.
