Jews got permission for pre-‘Passover sacrifice’ near Temple Mount and performed it

Some Jews petitioned for a pre-Passover sacrifice and were approved to do so:

Israeli police in Jerusalem green-lighted a religious ceremony which involves the slaughter of a Passover lamb only “tens of meters” from the site where the Temple once stood. Temple Mount activists carried out the sacrifice for more than ten years now, but never before had the ceremony taken place so close on the Temple Mount. …

On Monday, the ceremony is scheduled to take place at the entrance to the Davidson Center, also known as “Jerusalem Archaeological Park” which is located next to the Western Wall tens of meters from the site of the original temple. …

According to Temple Mount activists, the Passover sacrifice is one of the most important in the Torah. Monday’s sacrifice is however not supposed to replace the actual Passover sacrifice, which according to religious law can only be held on the Temple Mount on the eve of Passover. …

“The Temple Mount has been in our hands for 50 years now and we are trying to do everything to move ahead and perform the commandment of the Passover sacrifice in the place intended for it. All the temple exercises are a key branch in the activities of the temple organizations,” said a statement from the organizers.

“In the meantime, until the holding of the proper ceremony on the Temple Mount properly approved by authorities, the 10th of the [Hebrew month of] Nissan has become a day of celebration for thousands when each year the pre-Passover sacrifice exercise takes place. So, after getting permission, they sacrificed two lambs:

Hundreds of activists and supporters attended the annual exercise of the Passover sacrifice that was conducted for the first time next to the Southern Wall, at the foot of the Temple Mount. …

The fact that both Israel Police and the Jerusalem Municipality permitted them to conduct the ceremony in that located might indicate a warming of ties between officials and the Temple Mount activists, as well on the growing popularity of the movement. …

The ceremony on Monday, which included the slaughtering of two lambs, and a demonstration of the work of the Kohanim, was attended by senior National Religious rabbis including Yisrael Ariel and Dov Lior. MK Yehudah Glick (Likud), a former senior Temple Mount activist, attended the event as well.

Some have wondered about the Jews, a temple, and animal sacrifices.

While many do wish to build another temple and have again recently taken steps (see Closer to another Jewish temple in Jerusalem being built?), it should be pointed out that:

Biblical prophecies do not require that a Jewish temple be built in Jerusalem before Jesus returns (for details, see Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?).
There is no biblical requirement for a temple to be built for sacrifices to resume (cf. Ezra 3:6).
Jewish leaders have long recognized the second point (see also Nascent Sanhedrin structure and high priest: The plan is to start animal sacrifices–this would fulfill prophecy!)–which is part of why there have been animal sacrifices the past 15 years or so.
The Bible also tells of daily sacrifices being stopped (Daniel 9:27, 11:31)–and since they have not started, their start is a prophetic event to look out for.

So, what was done today is somewhat consistent with Ezra 3:6.

Perhaps it should also be mentioned that many doubt whether or not the often claimed Temple Mount is truly the location of the last Jewish temple–but those associated with the Temple Institute, for example, clearly do. Furthermore, many of the stones from that temple were moved to the Western Hill in Jerusalem and a Christian church was built from it in the late first century (see Church of God on Jerusalem’s Western Hill).

As far as animal sacrifices go, notice that the Bible shows that during the time of Ezra animal sacrifices in the Temple were made before the second Jewish Temple was built:

2 Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brethren, arose and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God. 3 Though fear had come upon them because of the people of those countries, they set the altar on its bases; and they offered burnt offerings on it to the Lord, both the morning and evening burnt offerings. 4 They also kept the Feast of Tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings in the number required by ordinance for each day. 5 Afterwards they offered the regular burnt offering, and those for New Moons and for all the appointed feasts of the Lord that were consecrated, and those of everyone who willingly offered a freewill offering to the Lord. 6 From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the Lord, although the foundation of the temple of the Lord had not been laid. (Ezra 3:2-6)

An actual rebuilt temple on the Temple Mount is not biblically required for the resumption of animal sacrifices, and many Jewish religious authorities realize this.

Since the Bible shows that the Jews will again have animal sacrifices (cf. Daniel 9:27; 11:31),that will happen.

The current reason that animal sacrifices are not allowed on the Temple Mount itself is political. That being said, it may take the ‘peace deal’ of Daniel 9:27 to set the stage for the daily sacrifices, but that too will involve politicians. Politicians can change, and enough will to fulfill prophecies related to animal sacrifices.

It could well be because of statements from US President Trump that permission to sacrifice so close to the Temple Mount location was granted by Israeli authorities.

The time for regular animal sacrifices in Israel is getting closer.
