I365: Jews defiantly ascend Temple Mount

COGwriter

Thousands of Jews ascended the area called the Temple Mount today in celebration of Israel’s capture of all of Jerusalem in 1967. The Associated Press reported the following:

May 29, 2022

JERUSALEM (AP) — Nearly 2,000 Jewish pilgrims visited Jerusalem’s most sensitive holy site early Sunday ahead of a nationalist parade through the Old City, prompting Palestinians barricaded inside the Al Aqsa Mosque to throw rocks and fireworks at the visitors and nearby Israeli police.

Some 3,000 Israeli police were deployed throughout the city ahead of Sunday’s march, in which flag-waving Israeli nationalists planned to walk through the heart of the Old City’s main Palestinian thoroughfare.

Israel says the march is meant to celebrate its capture of east Jerusalem, including the Old City, in the 1967 Mideast war. Israel has annexed east Jerusalem in a move that isn’t internationally recognized and claims all of the city as its capital.

But Palestinians, who seek east Jerusalem as the capital of a future state, see the march as a provocation. Last year, the parade helped trigger an 11-day war between Israel and Gaza militants.  …

Early on Sunday, some 1,800 Jewish pilgrims visited the contested hilltop compound where the Al Aqsa Mosque is situated, according to Israeli police.

Al Aqsa is the third-holiest site in Islam and serves as a powerful symbol for the Palestinians. The compound also is the holiest site for Jews, who call it the Temple Mount and revere it as the home of the biblical Temples. https://apnews.com/article/politics-middle-east-jerusalem-israel-0a6080b491cebc2aa830986029816976

Jews defiantly ascend Temple Mount …

May 29, 2022

On Sunday, Jerusalem was filled with Jews celebrating our national reunification with our eternal capital. Nowhere was that joy more manifest than at the Temple Mount, the site bought by King David 3,000 years ago as the only site where the Jewish people could fully serve God.

Yaakov Hayman, the chairman of the Temple Movements, arrived early to ascend the Temple Mount.

“It was incredible,” Hayman said. “The number of people was staggering. But people were waiting for hours because of the anti-Jewish policies. Groups were limited to 20 people, and only two groups were allowed up at a time, and only 25 minutes are allowed, with no stops. .”

“It is absurd that Arabs were allowed free access to the Temple Mount, but Jews were so restricted. Jews are barred from the Temple Mount on the slightest excuse of any Muslim holiday, but on the day we celebrate Jerusalem, the gates are shut in our faces while they don’t even go through gates.” …

Israel Police stated: “During the last hours, the police have worked to allow freedom of worship for worshipers on the Temple Mount and at the same time to protect visitors. In the final hour, towards the end of the visits, and after more than 1,800 Jews visited the site, clashes began between Arab worshipers and a group of Jewish visitors. A violation of the public order ensued, including the dumping of bottles and chairs in the mountaintop compound. Following these disturbances, several suspects were arrested by the police.”

It should be noted that approximately 500 Jews were left waiting in line, denied the right to visit the Temple mount. The Temple Mount will reopen to Jews from 1:30-2:45. The Muslims continue to have unrestricted access to the Temple Mount.

All of these acts by the Jews are unprecedented and significant. https://www.israel365news.com/269858/jews-definatly-ascend-temple-mount-prepare-for-temple-by-singing-for-king-hezekiah/

Scripture warns that Jerusalem will be a burden and heavy stone:

1 The burden of the word of the Lord against Israel. Thus says the Lord, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him: 2 “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. 3 And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it. (Zechariah 12:1-3)

Jerusalem is already considered burdensome by much of the international community.

We will see changes there–and many not good.

Do not forget that the Bible says to, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalms 122:6)

We should pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

This can result in temporary cessation of hostilities.

Yet, in this age, we will not see permanent peace in Jerusalem.

Specifically, here is the biblical warning that God inspired Isaiah to record:

6 Elam bore the quiver With chariots of men and horsemen, And Kir uncovered the shield. 7 It shall come to pass that your choicest valleys Shall be full of chariots,And the horsemen shall set themselves in array at the gate.

8 He removed the protection of Judah. You looked in that day to the armor of the House of the Forest; 9 You also saw the damage to the city of David, That it was great; And you gathered together the waters of the lower pool. (Isaiah 22:6-9)

Elam is a reference to at least some in Iran. Kir is a reference to at least some in Syria as well as perhaps some who refer to themselves as Palestinian. The Bible tells that after Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria took over Damascus, he moved Syrians to Kir. While this does not mean that Kir must (or must only) be a reference to Syria, the fact that Syria is an ally of Iran is interesting. Some believe Kir is an area in the south of Iran, while others suggest closer to the Black Sea. The Bible tells of a time when Kir will be destroyed (Isaiah 15:1b) and also says that Syria’s capital Damascus will be destroyed (Isaiah 17:1). This destruction might happen around the time Jerusalem experiences massive damage.

In Isaiah 22: 8, “Judah” is a reference to those in the land commonly called Israel–God will allow Israel to be attacked! In Isaiah 22:9, consider that “the damage to the city of David” is a reference to at least part of Jerusalem (cf. 2 Kings 9:28)–and notice that the damage will be great.

Israel’s famed ‘Iron Dome’ and military prowess will NOT stop the coming great damage that will hit Jerusalem, despite Israeli confidence.

These events would be expected to be factors that will lead to the TEMPORARY peace deal that is mentioned in the Book of Daniel (see The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27)–confirmation of that deal by a “prince” will begin the countdown to the start of the Great Tribulation and massive destruction (see When Will the Great Tribulation Begin? 2022, 2023, or 2024?).

It should perhaps also be mentioned that Iran and Israel keep provoking each other as the following attests to:

MAY 29, 2022

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said on Sunday Iran would not go unpunished for instigating attacks through its proxies, speaking a week after the assassination in Tehran of a Revolutionary Guards colonel that has been blamed on Israel.

Hassan Sayad Khodai, accused by Israel of plotting attacks against its citizens worldwide, was shot dead at the wheel of his car by two people on a motorcycle. The tactic echoed previous killings in Iran that focused on nuclear scientists and were widely pinned on Mossad. …

Iran has promised to retaliate for Khodai’s death and pointed the finger at Israel. https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/israel-bennett-iran-immunity/2022/05/29/id/1071976/

Anyway, yes, Iran and Israel keep taking provocative steps which one day will lead to major destruction (see also Iran in Prophecy).

The frequent conflicts in Jerusalem have often received international attention and there will be future international involvement–which will break about a temporal, but false, peace.

That being said, an age will come where there will be lasting peace in Jerusalem.

Notice something published over 50 years ago by the old Worldwide Church of God:

Jerusalem the Capital City …

Jerusalem will be the showcase city of the whole world. In the World Tomorrow it will be the world capital and the model city from which all other cities will get their example. It will be fabulous beyond description.

Jesus Christ, as Chief Ruler, will make His dwelling there. With Him will be many other high-ranking Spirit Rulers and assistants who will help Him administer God’s World Government.

Here are a few highlights of what Jerusalem will be like then:

“Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion [a part of Jerusalem], on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. God is known in her palaces for a refuge” (Psalm 48:2-3).

“Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined” (Psalm 50:2).

“Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited” (Zech. 14:11).

“Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls [without the need of armed defense) for the multitude of men and cattle therein” (Zech. 2:4).

The gates of Jerusalem will be open day and night (Isa. 60:11) so that the various peoples and nations can bring gold, silver and valuable materials into it. They will be richly blessed for doing this, and those who refuse will be “utterly wasted” (verse 12).

All kinds of rare woods will be brought “to beautify the place of my [God’s) sanctuary, and I [God) will make the place of my feet glorious” (verse 13).

Jerusalem will be called “The city of the Lord, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel” and it will be made “an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations” (verses 14-15).

“For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness. Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise” (verses 17-18).

“Thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city” (Isa. 1:26).

Truly, “Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God” (Psalm 87:3)!

Delegations from all nations will go up to Jerusalem to worship, to offer praise and thanksgiving, to be spiritually uplifted and inspired, and to receive instruction from God and His servants.

“Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together [skyscrapers]: whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the Lord. For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces” (Psalm 122:3-7).

“It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities: and the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the Lord, and to seek the Lord of hosts: I will go also. Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the Lord” (Zech. 8:20-22).

This is what Jerusalem will be like … (Walter EM. An Exciting Preview of TOMORROW’S CITIES. Tomorrows World, March-April 1970)

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6).

Pray for God’s Kingdom to come (Matthew 6:10).
