Here are reports from Voice of America about the expanding Hamas-Israel war:

Israeli Ground Assault Expands Into Gaza

October 30, 2023

Latest developments:

  • Israel hits 600 targets in one day as it expands the assault on Gaza.
  • Israel also hit targets in Syria and Lebanon.
  • Save the Children delivers chilling statistics about the number of children killed in the Israel-Gaza conflict.
  • U.S. President Joe Biden urges Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to protect civilians, increase humanitarian aid to Gaza as international outcry increases for a humanitarian pause to allow aid into Gaza.
  • IDF spokesperson again urges residents away from Hamas strongholds, saying “our fight is with Hamas, not the people of Gaza.”

Israeli troops and tanks have moved into northern Gaza Monday, expanding their military presence deeper into the enclave. …

The Israeli Air Force says it has hit over 600 Hamas targets in Gaza in a 24-hour period.

Israel said it also struck targets in Syria and Lebanon. The attacks, the Israeli military said Monday, were in response to attacks launched from both countries. …

Israel also reported that its ground forces killed several Hamas militants as they exited a tunnel near the Erez crossing, the sole pedestrian passageway from Gaza into Israel before it was destroyed in the recent fighting.

Hamas has a sprawling network of tunnels underneath Gaza where it is believed to be stockpiling weapons, food and other supplies. …

Clashes on the Israel-Lebanon border escalated Sunday with Hezbollah saying it shot down an Israeli drone over southern Lebanon with a surface-to-air missile.

The drone was hit near Khiam, about 5 kilometers from the border with Israel, and was seen falling in Israeli territory, Hezbollah added. Two security sources in Lebanon said it was the first time Hezbollah had announced downing an Israeli drone. https://www.voanews.com/a/7332554.html

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Sunday said Israel’s ongoing bombardment of Gaza “may force everyone” to act in the latest warning issued by the Islamic republic since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Israel has been pounding the Palestinian territory since Hamas gunmen stormed across the border on October 7 and killed more than 1,400 people, most of them civilians, Israeli officials said.

Since then, more than 8,000 people have been killed in Gaza, half of them children, according to the health ministry in Hamas-run enclave, an impoverished strip of land that is home to 2.4 million people.

“The crimes of the Zionist regime have crossed the red lines, and this may force everyone to take action,” Raisi said on X, formerly Twitter.

“Washington asks us to not do anything, but they keep giving widespread support to Israel,” he said.

“The U.S. sent messages to the Axis of Resistance but received a clear response on the battlefield,” he wrote, using a term often used by Iranian officials to refer to the Islamic republic and its allies like Lebanon’s Hezbollah, Yemen’s Huthis and other Shiite forces in Iraq and Syria.

Although it was not immediately clear what he was referring to, there have been a string of attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria as well as increasing exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and Israeli forces on the Lebanon border since the Gaza conflict began.

Iran, which financially and militarily backs Hamas, hailed the October 7 attacks as a success.

But it has insisted it was not involved in the onslaught, 10/29/23 https://www.voanews.com/a/iran-s-raisi-says-israeli-actions-may-force-everyone-to-act/7332056.html

Now That Israel Has Entered Gaza, All Eyes Are On Hezbollah, Iran And Turkey

October 29, 2023

Israeli troops have gone into Gaza, and we are being told that this is a war that could last for months.  Of course it could easily last a lot longer than that.  If the stated goal is to eliminate Hamas, that certainly won’t be easy.  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is calling this a second war of independence, and he just told the world that “Never Again is now”

Now we shall see what Hezbollah does.

Hezbollah officials have warned multiple times that they will enter the war if Israel goes into Gaza.

Was Hezbollah just bluffing?

So far, a limited number of rockets have been fired back and forth along Israel’s northern border since Netanyahu made his speech…

Several rocket volleys were fired from Lebanon at northern Israel on Sunday, and the Israel Defense Forces said it hit terror cells and sites belonging to the Hezbollah terror group, as skirmishes continued on the northern frontier and the army continues its war with Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip in the south.

According to the IDF, rockets were launched from Lebanon at the upper and western Galilee several times throughout the day, setting off sirens in towns including Kiryat Shmona, Nahariya, Shlomi, Tuba-Zangariyye, Rosh Pina, Ayelet Hashahar, and Hatzor Haglilit.

Unfortunately, I don’t believe that Hezbollah was just bluffing, and I think soon we will see some major moves from them.

I also don’t think that Iran was bluffing.

On Sunday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi publicly stated that the Israelis have “crossed the red lines” that Iran had established…

Israel has “crossed the red lines” in Gaza, which “may force everyone to take action,” Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi said Sunday, while US national security adviser Jake Sullivan warned of an “elevated risk” of a spillover conflict in the Middle East.

Okay, so your “red lines” have been crossed.

What are you going to do about it?

So far, the answer is not much.

But the Iranians are conducting “massive war games” right now…

If the Iranians intend to stop what is going on, they are going to have to take action.

For now, the Iranians are limiting themselves to conducting strikes on U.S. bases in the region through their proxies

Meanwhile,Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is making all sorts of noise.

At a pro-Palestinian rally on Saturday, he declared that Israel is “a war criminal”

And Erdogan also threatened Israel with potential military action

My friends, we have truly entered unprecedented territory.

A major war has erupted in the Middle East, and now we shall watch to see what all of the interested parties do next… https://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/now-that-israel-has-entered-gaza-all-eyes-are-on-hezbollah-iran-and-turkey/

Well, Israel hopes to destroy Hamas and reduce the size of Gaza (watch Gaza and Bible Prophecy). But eliminating Hamas is easier said than done:

‘Nearly Impossible:’ Israel’s Mission to Destroy Hamas, Warns Retired US General

Israel continued expanding its military operations in Gaza Sunday … Separately, a U.S. military expert warns that Israel’s mission to destroy Hamas could prove almost impossible. 10/29/23 https://www.voanews.com/a/nearly-impossible-israel-s-mission-to-destroy-hamas-warns-retired-us-general/7331980.html

Ground operations into Gaza will cause death to both sides, and look to trigger additional involvement from Hezbollah and perhaps Syria and Iran.

As I have written for years, I expect a regional war that will involve Syria and Iran and Israel. What is happening now may lead to the following:

1 The burden against the Valley of Vision.

What ails you now, that you have all gone up to the housetops, 2 You who are full of noise, A tumultuous city, a joyous city? Your slain men are not slain with the sword, Nor dead in battle. 3 All your rulers have fled together; They are captured by the archers. All who are found in you are bound together; They have fled from afar. 4 Therefore I said, “Look away from me, I will weep bitterly; Do not labor to comfort me Because of the plundering of the daughter of my people.”

5 For it is a day of trouble and treading down and perplexity By the Lord God of hosts In the Valley of Vision — Breaking down the walls And of crying to the mountain. 6 Elam bore the quiver With chariots of men and horsemen, And Kir uncovered the shield. 7 It shall come to pass that your choicest valleys Shall be full of chariots,And the horsemen shall set themselves in array at the gate.

8 He removed the protection of Judah. You looked in that day to the armor of the House of the Forest; 9 You also saw the damage to the city of David, That it was great; And you gathered together the waters of the lower pool. 10 You numbered the houses of Jerusalem, And the houses you broke down To fortify the wall. 11 You also made a reservoir between the two walls For the water of the old pool. But you did not look to its Maker, Nor did you have respect for Him who fashioned it long ago.

12 And in that day the Lord God of hosts Called for weeping and for mourning,For baldness and for girding with sackcloth. 13 But instead, joy and gladness, Slaying oxen and killing sheep, Eating meat and drinking wine: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”

14 Then it was revealed in my hearing by the Lord of hosts,”Surely for this iniquity there will be no atonement for you, Even to your death,” says the Lord God of hosts.  (Isaiah 22:1-14 NKJV)

Elam looks to be a reference to at least some in Iran. The old Worldwide Church of God published the following:

Iranians comprise nearly 70 percent of the country. Iranians, though Islamic, are totally distinct from the neighboring Arab peoples of the Middle East. They are a mixed people of the remnants of Media and Elam and other ancestors of Semitic and Hamitic stock. (Stump K. South Asia in Prophecy. Plain Truth, July/August 1986, p. 5)

Kir is of interest as it it looks to include Syrians and others in the region. For example, the Bible tells that after Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria took over Damascus, he moved Syrians to Kir. While this does not mean that Kir must (or must only) be a reference to Syria, the fact that Syria is an ally of Iran is interesting. Some believe Kir is an area in the south of Iran (which could then include some in Iraq), while others suggest closer to the Black Sea (which Turkey borders). God’s word has the expression “the Syrians from Kir” (Amos 9:7), which is basically confirmation that Kir of Isaiah 22 would include Syrians. The Bible also tells of a time when Kir will be destroyed (Isaiah 15:1b) and also says that Syria’s capital Damascus will be destroyed:

1 The burden against Damascus.

“Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city,
And it will be a ruinous heap. (Isaiah 17:1).

Damascus has NOT been made a ruinous heap since Isaiah was inspired by God to write that prophecy. That could be fulfilled in a regional war involving Israel, but if not then, likely when the war comes between the forces of the European King of the North and the Arabic King of the South in Daniel 11:40-43–scripture does not clearly state when Damascus will be destroyed.

In Isaiah 22: 8, “Judah” is a reference to those in the land commonly called Israel–God will allow Israel to be attacked! In Isaiah 22:9, consider that “the damage to the city of David” is a reference to at least part of Jerusalem–and notice that the damage will be great.

It would seem something like major damage to Israel and others will happen before there is a peace deal, such as the one scripture points to in Daniel 9:27.

As long time readers of this COGwriter Church of God News page are aware, I have long asserted that “peace deals’ normally happen after military conflicts. And that a regional war in the Middle East looks necessary before the temporary deal of Daniel 9:27 is confirmed.

We will see how the current conflict changes as it could turn into that regional war, particularly as other players in the region are indicating that it will.

As far as Hamas’ ally Iran goes, before the current Hamas-Israel war, we put out the following video:

15:03

Iran and Israel Conflict

European Union foreign policy chief, Josep Borrel, has been brokering the nuclear negotiations involving Iran and said that he thinks the deal is “in danger.” Iran blames the United States, whereas the USA says they are not delaying it. Israeli sources stated that Israel will stop Iran from getting a nuclear bomb. Joe Biden says the USA would use its own military power to prevent Iran from getting such a bomb if need be. In 2021, Iranian lawmakers have submitted a bill seeking the government by law to commit to Israel’s destruction by the year 2040. Does the 22nd chapter of Isaiah point to damage coming to Israel from Iran and possibly Syria? Might Iran be concerned enough about limited progress with the USA to launch some type of attack? Is Iran the prophesied ‘King of the South’? Is it reasonable to think that the prophesied peace deal of Daniel 9:27 will not happen until after a military conflict. like a regional war? Should Christians watch the Middle East? Dr. Thiel and Steve Dupuie discuss these matters.

Much is happening.

As Jesus stated:

37 And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch! (Mark 13:37)
