CCOG's 6 Years and Scriptures Laodiceans Miss

By COGwriter

December 28, 2018 marks, on the Roman calendar, the six-year anniversary of the official declaration of the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) as a separate entity, a corporation sole (see also Why is the Continuing of God a corporation sole? and 501(c)(3)? Why the Continuing Church of God chose a better option).

Much as gone on in the CCOG since its declaration on 12/28/12.

CCOG claims to best represent the Philadelphian remnant during this Laodicean time.

There are six main areas to focus on in this article:

  1. Is CCOG doing what the Bible says?
  2. Do misunderstandings push people to be Laodicean and not Philadelphian?
  3. Where there similarities related to the start of the old Radio Church of God and the Continuing Church of God?
  4. Has there been proclamation success?
  5. Does the size and growth in the Continuing Church of God reflect God's Philadelphia blessings?
  6. Has the Continuing Church of God properly restored doctrine and other matters?

A related sermon is also available: CCOG 6 years: Philadelphians understand scriptures others miss.

Significance of the Number Six?

Before dealing with those, let's brief consider the actual number six.

In the days of the old Worldwide Church of God, there was something which is claimed to list what some of the symbology of the Bible represented.

For example, there was claimed to be a handout from Ambassador College, a document titled The Symbols of the Bible that stated/claimed:

Lamb -- Christ (John 1:36)

Elect -- Phil. Church

Here are two related to numbers from The Symbols of the Bible:

6 — Man's Number

666 -- Number of the Beast of Rev.

Seven -- Completion

As the above states, 666 is the number of the Beast according to Revelation:

18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (Revelation 13:18)

In terms of the next number, seven: God rested the seventh-day completing His physical recreation in Genesis 2. There are seven Holy Days.

Revelation has seven churches--the sixth one is Philadelphian.

Compared to the formation of other groups whose leaders were once part of the old Worldwide Church of God, there have been several things that were unique about our formation. Some actually, were more similar to the start of the old Radio Church of God.

Like the fact that Herbert W. Armstrong left Church of God, Seventh-day (CG7) because it would not teach truth that it admitted, and I left the Living Church of God (LCG) because it would not fix errors it said it would (see also Why Bob Thiel Left the Living Church of God).

Herbert Armstrong and I believed that Christians were to do what God says.

Doing What the Bible Says

Of course, all actual Christians groups claim to do what the Bible says.

But will they really do so if it parts were not included in their tradition?

Notice the following:

10 And Moses commanded them, saying: "At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the year of release, at the Feast of Tabernacles, 11 when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God in the place which He chooses, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. 12 Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God and carefully observe all the words of this law, (Deuteronomy 31:10-12)

I first attended the Feast of Tabernacles in 1977. Since then through 2012, in my years in the Worldwide/Global/Living Church of God, this was not really done.

Now, there was one exception. While I had given sermonettes at various Feast of Tabernacles sites, I had never given a sermon. The first year I was asked to give a sermon at the Feast of Tabernacles was 2006.

I decided that the Book of the Law needed to be read, so that is what I did in a sermon.

As it turns out, 2013 was the first year for the Continuing Church of God to hold the Feast of Tabernacles and I covered that entire Book of the Law in the sermons I gave at the two Feast of Tabernacles sites I attended (when I was at the other, they watched the videos which were uploaded so they got the entirety taught). Here are links to those sermons:

DEUTERONOMY. Here are links to sermons covering Deuteronomy: Deuteronomy 1-4, Deuteronomy 5-12, Deuteronomy 13-17, Deuteronomy 18 - 24, Deuteronomy 25-30, and Deuteronomy 31-34.

In hindsight, after CCOG formed, it occurred to me that 2013 was seven years from the first time I attempted to do this and thus this looked liked God's timing.

Well, what about listening to Jesus in the New Testament?

Jesus told His followers the following:

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20)

The first part of verse 20 was not something I ever saw was intentionally done by any Catholic, Protestant, or COG group. It is not that the COG groups do/did not teach Jesus' commands. But none I was aware of intentionally did this.

How does one intentionally do this?

Well, by covering all the words in the New Testament directly attributed to Jesus.

Has CCOG done this?

Yes.

We intentionally have done sermons covering every verse of the gospels as well as every other verse in the New Testament attributed to Jesus.

Need proof.

Here are links to sermons that have done that:

MATTHEW Here are links to twelve sermons covering the 28 chapters of Matthew: Matthew 1-2: Greek or Aramaic, Jesus, and the Star?, Matthew 3-5: John the Baptist, Temptations, and the Beatitudes, Matthew 6-7: Charitable Deeds, the Rosary, Prayer, the Golden Rule, and Faith, Matthew 8-10: Married Clergy, Faith, Coming Persecution, and the Ecumenical Agenda, Matthew 11-12: John the Elijah, Sodom, Unpardonable Sin, & 3 Days and 3 Nights, -14: Parables, Mustard Seeds, Birthdays, and Faith, Matthew 15-16: Tradition, Signs of the Times, and The Rock & Peter, Matthew 17-18: Transfiguration, Elijah to Come, Taxes, and Forgiveness, Matthew 19-20: Transgender? The last sermon also covers Jesus' words in the Book of Acts.
JOHN Here are links to a seven-part sermon series covering the entire 'Gospel of John': John 1-3: Anti-unitarian, Wine, Being Born Again, & Heaven, John 4-6: Jesus and the Samaritan Woman, Miracles and the Bread of Life, John 10-12: Sheep, Hirelings, Lazarus/Soul Sleep and ‘Palm Day’, John 13-15: Footwashing and the Words of Jesus, John 16-18: Truth, Trinity, and Pontius Pilate, and John 19-21: Do not only try, do what God wants.
REVELATION This is a link to a sermon covering words Jesus spoke as recorded in the Book of Revelation and in first and second Corinthians: Revelation: Jesus’ Final Words.

Additionally, this is something I instructed our ministers in Africa and Europe to do while visiting them in Nairobi, Kenya in February 2017.

Furthermore, related to commands, we also produced a book: The Ten Commandments: The Decalogue, Christianity, and the Beast.

These actions help show that we have been listening to God these six years.

It would seem to be Laodicean (or worse) to think that intentionally fulfilling Matthew 28:20a is unimportant.

God's Grace

When my wife Joyce and I decided we had to separate from our former COG group, we had to walk out on faith.

We could have possibly lost our business and livelihood as running CCOG takes much time away from our business.

We considered the cost, but through God's grace our business has continued even as we have worked on an unpaid basis for CCOG.

We clearly are not hirelings (John 10:11-13)–ministering for a paycheck.

Consider also the following statements from the Apostle Paul:

33 I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel. 34 Yes, you yourselves know that these hands have provided for my necessities, and for those who were with me. 35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” (Acts 20:33-35)

Supporting the weak and poor (cf. Galatians 2:10) is something that Christian leaders are supposed to do.

Sure, biblically, we were aware that I am entitled to a salary (1 Corinthians 9:14), and perhaps one day my wife and/or I will take a salary.

But consider something that the Apostle Paul wrote:

26 ... because of the present distress — that it is good for a man to remain as he is: (1 Corinthians 7:26)

Now, while he was talking about remaining then in marital status (and my marital status is the same as it has been for the last 37 years), it is because of the present distress in Africa that I have not taken a salary. Because I have not, we have had funds to send to the poor and hungry in Africa, as well as to fund what could be called 'missionary trips' to places in Africa and elsewhere.

As far as Africa and elsewhere go, there are people who were once part of the old WCG who did not know what to do, some for many years. Through God's grace, they were led to CCOG. There are others that God is leading to CCOG who were not part of WCG.

The Bible says God calls--we in CCOG are striving to listen to God.

Laodiceans, Revilers, and Persecution

The Bible warns that various ones want to suppress the truth:

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, (Romans 1:18)

We are seeing this.

Actually, when CCOG began, false statements were released about me.

Denials of facts, etc. were made. If people would have been told the truth, more who have the "love of the truth" would have supported us.

Some, like those in New Zealand, had suspected that our prior organization had integrity problems. When they read about what had happened with me (see Why Bob Thiel Left the Living Church of God), they realized that it rang true.

Furthermore, a couple of others in New Zealand were impacted by a dream, and then they believed.

Some scattered people came with us in different nations. But most Christians did not come with us for many reasons, including falsehoods about me or the CCOG.

Consider the following:

12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. (2 Timothy 3:12-13)

My "online reputation" has been highly trashed by liars. Some of which claim to be in the Church of God, as well as by many who once claimed to be COG. They have called me a liar and/or false repeatedly--not because they cite any lie I made, but because they do not agree with how I have taught and/or interpretted matters. Differences in interprettations are not lies--branding me a liar and false, as various apostates and others have, is them bearing false witness, in violation of the ninth commandment.

Notice the following that was said about Jesus:

"We know that this Man is a sinner" (John 9:24).

Jesus was not a sinner--yet this was so commonly taught that people believed it.

Jesus taught:

18 "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 He who hates Me hates My Father also. 24 If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father. 25 But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated Me without a cause.' (John 15:18-25)

And I and the CCOG have been hated without a proper cause.

Jesus also taught:

10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:10-12)

Hence, those wrongly persecuted are subject to God's blessings.

One anti-COG site, when condemning me, put something up to the effect that prophets do not use words like maybe, might, possibly, etc. Well, they do if they are not directly prophesying, and sometimes even when they were. And most of the time when they speak, prophets are not prophesying.

The Old Testmament shows that prophets like Isaiah (Isaiah 47:12), Jeremiah quoting God Himself (Jeremiah 26:3, 51:8), and Daniel (Daniel 4:27) used the word "perhaps" (NKJV). The Psalmist (Pslam 106:3), Ezekiel (Ezekiel 17:14; 20:26), Hosea (Hosea 8:4), Amos (Amos 1:3), Habakkuk (Habakkuk 3:16), Zechariah (Zechariah 6:7, 8:9, 11:10, 11:14), Malachi (Malachi 2:5), and Paul (Romans 11:32, 15:4) used the word "might." Paul used the term "perceive" once when he was making a prediction that turned out to be in error (Acts 27:10, 42-44).

As it turns out, I may be the most often improperly maligned COG leader alive today. Lies from those in the former group I was part of are widely accepted. Plus, the lies, inuendoes, and false information about me from anti-COG types on the internet seem to increase each day.

But, as Jesus said, that would happen to prophets. Which shows that Jesus expected His church to have prophets after He would be resurrected.

This was a prophecy for NOW.

The late Herbert W. Armstrong stated that he felt that the Bible was mainly directed towards the Philadelphia remnant:

It has been seeming more and more to me, as the years go by, that the Bible was written primarily for the Philadelphia era of the Church. It has not been understood previously to now. (Mission of the Philadelphia Church Era. Sermon given on December 17, 1983

Since there were no ordained prophets during his time, presuming some truth to his statement, then the statement from Jesus about prophets is related to the time right now.

Now, many Laodiceans point to statements from Herbert Armstrong to claim that there can be no prophets now, that there were none after Revelation was written, etc. But the New Testament supports the view that there would be prophets after it was written.

Furthermore, consider that in a document believed to be put together by Church of God leaders in Smyrna, called the The Martyrdom of Polycarp, is the following:

16:2 In the number of these was this man, the glorious martyr Polycarp, who was found an apostolic and prophetic teacher in our own time, a bishop of the holy Church which is in Smyrna. For every word which he uttered from his mouth was accomplished and will be accomplished. (The Martyrdom of Polycarp. In: Holmes M. The Apostolic Fathers--Greek Text and English Translations, 3rd printing 2004, pp 222-249)

It appears that "prophet" was one of Polycarp's roles. The fact that he was a traveling prophetic teacher (he visited Rome as well as parts of Asia Minor) indicates he was a prophetic evangelist.

Herbert W. Armstrong endorsed him as COG, as well as Melito:

It is significant that after his release John trained Polycarp elder of Smyrna, a city near Ephesus in the province of Asia. ... At neighboring Smyrna, Polycarp presided over the Church of God for half a century after John's death. Polycarp stood up boldly for the truth while many fell away and began having fellowship with the Catholic bishops of Rome. History relates that following the example of Peter, Paul and John, Polycarp wrote many letters to congregations and individuals, though all these have perished, save one in an edited version. (Armstrong HW. The Church They Couldn't Destroy. Good News, December 1981)

Eusebius, historian of the early centuries of the Church, speaks of the true Christians observing Passover on the 14th of Nisan ...

"'We observe the exact day; neither adding, nor taking away. For in Asia also great lights have fallen asleep, which shall rise again on the day of the Lord's coming, when he shall come with glory from heaven, and shall seek out all the saints. Among these are Philip, one of the twelve apostles ... and, moreover, John, who was both a witness and a teacher, who reclined upon the bosom of the Lord ... and Polycarp in Smyrna, who was a bishop and martyr; and Thraseas, bishop and martyr from Eumenia ... the bishop and martyr Sagaris ... the blessed Papirius, or Melito ....All these observed the fourteenth day of the passover according to the Gospel, deviating in no respect, but following the rule of faith' " (Ecclesiastical History, book V, chapters XXIII and XXIV). (Armstrong HW. The Plain Truth About Easter. WCG booklet, 1973)

Early writing say that Melito of Sardis was considered to be a prophet.

Further, notice something from the old Radio Church of God (which Herbert Armstrong was the human leader of):

Paulician Church Government

The Paulicians claimed to be THE "holy universal and apostolic church" founded by Jesus Christ and his apostles. Of the false churches, they would say: "We do not belong to these, for they have long ago broken connection with the church."

They taught that the Church is not a building, not just an organization, but an organism — the body of truly converted baptized persons, which has continued unbroken with the apostolic traditions from its beginning. Jesus Christ was and is the HEAD of that Church.

Paulicians also taught that the Scripture is for the layman as much as for the minister. They continually urged the people to check the Scriptures for themselves, and accused the priests of hiding the Scriptures in order to deprive the people of the truth and of making monetary profit in addition by dispensing a SUPPOSED word of God in its place. ...

Four of their greatest leaders, the Paulicians called APOSTLES and PROPHETS. ...

Any greatness is not of the man, but of the OFFICE. No man is qualified for it but through the Holy Spirit.

Though you might not respect the MAN, YOU had BETTER respect that OFFICE!

THAT office is of God. (Lesson 50 - I Will Build My Church, Part 2. 58 Lesson: Ambassador College Bible Correspondence Course, 1965)

The New Testament endorsed prophets, at least one or two are believed to have been around in the second century A.D., and the old Radio Church of God taught that they existed beyond New Testament times.

In addition, and quite importantly, notice something from the Book of Acts:

17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. 18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.  (Acts 2:17-18)

Clearly the New Testament teaches that there would be prophets at the end time. And, BTW, Herbert Armstrong realized, for example, that the two witnesses were prophets, and hence that there would be prophets in the true church before Jesus returned.

Now, you might say, "not so fast," you claiming to be prophet does not make you one. And that is true. There are other reasons (see How To Determine If Someone is a True Prophet of God).

But Laodiceans and others often will not recognized God's prophets.

Why?

Partially because of pride according to former GCG board member Norman Edwards, but also because they refuse to accept the standards that Jesus set (for information on both, see the article How To Determine If Someone is a True Prophet of God).

Laodiceans often have another type of pride. They pride themselves that they did not listen to a "worthless shepherd" (Zechariah 11:17) who apostatized. So, many think that they are right to be 'independent.'

Jesus warned the Philadelphians:

11 Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. (Revelation 3:11)

Sadly, independents have let others do that.

They will not heed or truly believe the following since they felt that they themselves stopped apostasy:

11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head — Christ — 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. (Ephesians 4:11-16)

Yet, there were at least writings from faithful shepherds that helped the independent and other Laodiceans. But their pride tends to persuade them that they are fine to remain as they are.

But they are not and are not growing in the type of love they need to, which they could if they would properly change.

Recall that Jesus taught:

22 And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. 23 When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. (Matthew 10:22-23)

He did not say to give up when persecuted, but to change locations.

Yes, people can be hurt emotionally, and even physically, but they are not to rely on their own understanding and not support the Philadelphian work.

Now, CCOG has been cheated by various ones, at different times, in at least three African countries.

Should we then have given up on Africa? After the first time, I spoke with a leader of another COG who, after being cheated by at least two in Africa, said he would no longer even send anything to Africa.

While that may sound rational, it certainly is not biblical to not support the poor or to take steps to reach people in poor areas like Africa.

Christians can be cheated (cf. Acts 20: 29-31; Philippians 3:18-19; 2 Corinthians 11:13-15; 2 Peter 2:1-3). Joshua and the leaders of Israel fell for lies themselves, for a time (Joshua 9:3-17). Interestingly, in the one letter we have from Polycarp of Smyrna, he four times mentions and warns against the love of money (see Polycarp's Letter to the Philippians).

In CCOG's case, the initial cheating ended up getting someone to come with us who began translating our materials into Kiswahili. Another cheater, brought people to us, and after we discovered him and put him out, even though some went with him, we ended up with more people in his country than he ever did. It would have been nicer to reach those people without the cheater as part of the process, but that is what happened.

The Apostle Peter wrote:

14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. "And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled." 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. (1 Peter 3:14-17)

So, yes, we suffered some emotionally and financially when some deceived us.

Yet, we were blessed with massive growth in Africa.

What happened brought the following to mind:

10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Galatians 6:10)

6 In the morning sow your seed,
And in the evening do not withhold your hand;
For you do not know which will prosper,
Either this or that,
Or whether both alike will be good. (Ecclesiastes 11:6)

The Apostle Paul reported that he had "perils among false brethren," but that did not stop him from going forth and doing the work.

Dreams

Non-believers and Laodiceans often will not accept how God works.

On the one hand, some claim that they need to see evidence of divine intervention to show the most faithful Christian church.

On the other hand, most will not accept that one of the ways that God intervenes is through dreams.

Although some of the prophets in the Hebrew scriptures did miracles, and some of the apostles in the Greek scriptures were also prophets, no one who was considered a prophet and not an apostle is shown as doing dramatic miracles (e.g. John 10:41).

But God sometimes does things more quietly--like with "a still small voice" (1 Kings 19:12). Dreams remind me of "a still small voice." Although Elijah accepted that God worked that way (1 Kings 19:13-18), most of the Laodiceans do not.

The Bible records that God often has used dreams to give messages (Genesis 20:3-7, 28:10-17, 31:10-13, 31:24, 37:5-10, 40:5-18, 41:1-32; Numbers 12:6; Judges 7:13-15; 1 Kings 3:5-15; Daniel 2:3-45, 4:4-27, 7:1-28; Matthew 1:20-25, 2:12, 2:13, 2:19, 2:22; Acts 16:9). But often they are not from God (Ecclesiastes 5:7; Zechariah 10:2).

As it turns out there were at least six people with dreams associated with the CCOG.

The Bible shows that God often chooses to work with prophets through a dream:

6 “Hear now My words:
If there is a prophet among you,
I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision;
I speak to him in a dream. (Numbers 12:6)

Notice that the above says that God will speak to His prophet in a dream. Many do not want to hear about dreams, but those with that attitude fail to realize that God has used dreams to convey His Philadelphian work.

Dreams are prophesied for the end times:

17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. 18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.  (Acts 2:14-18)

Herbert W. Armstrong claimed his wife Loma had a dream in the 20th century from God that preceded the start of the old Radio Church of God.

Though many discount all dreams, many also forget that Herbert W. Armstrong believed that his wife Loma D. Armstrong had a dream from God, although it took him some years to accept the validity of it:

Within 30 or 60 days after our marriage God spoke to my wife in what might have been an intense unusual dream, or a vision -- but it was years later before we came to realize that this really was a message from God.  (Armstrong HW.  Brethren and Co-worker letter, November 28, 1956)

Loma and Herbert Armstrong were married in 1917. In the dream they were specifically told that they would have a work to do. Furthermore, the bright lights in the dream may have had to do with doing a work (cf. Matthew 5:16)--a work that seemed to vanish and return (flash). Thus, there was a dream from given to a woman in the 20th century that preceded the start of the old Radio Church of God that Herbert W. Armstrong led. The Radio Church of God represented the start of the Philadelphia era and the Philadelphian work--a work that is not finished (cf. Matthew 24:14-15)--and Herbert W. Armstrong claimed that a dream given to his wife was from God, prior to the start of the Philadelphia era (more details on dreams is in the article Dreams, the Bible, the Radio Church of God, and the Continuing Church of God).

Since the Philadelphia era was raised up years after that dream, a question to ponder is would God do anything similar to point to the continuation of the end-time COG remnant of the Philadelphians? Consider that in Loma Armstrong's dream that there were two sets of flashing stars. Herbert Armstrong is now dead and there was a pause between the work God had him to do and the completion of the final phase of the work to finally fulfill Matthew 24:14 (cf. Isaiah 29:14?).

God directly intervened with a dream that years later led to the beginning of the Philadelphia era of the COG.

Throughout the Radio/Worldwide Church of God, Herbert Armstrong had anticipated he would fulfill the second part of the dream and be alive when Jesus returned.

Not only did that not happen, his long-time aide, Aaron Dean confirmed with me on August 15, 2017 that it was not until the last year or so of his life that Herbert Armstrong realized that he would NOT be around until Jesus returned. Therefore, if his wife's dream was from God, as he claimed it was, there was still to be fulfillment of the second part of it.

Furthermore, notice something that was in Herbert W. Armstrong's last letter:

The greatest work lies ahead...Never before in the history of the Church has it been possible to reap so great a harvest. It has only been made possible through modern technology, beginning with the printing press, radio, television...Each of you must commit yourself to support God's Work...God's work must push ahead as never before. God is opening up new doors in television (Letter, 1/10/86).

Consider that since Herbert Armstrong did not teach that the second part of his wife Loma's dream was fulfilled and that he also taught a greater work was going to happen after his death. It is greater because it will fulfill Matthew 24:14, etc. That is the work that we in the Continuing Church of God are leading (see The Final Phase of the Work and Preparing for the 'Short Work' and The Famine of the Word).

Now consider the following:

1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. … 4 God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? (Hebrews 2:1,4)

It used to be that people with a former Worldwide Church of God background generally believed the dream that the late Loma Armstrong had prior to the formation of the Radio Church of God was a sign from God.

Yet, since that dream had multiple parts, and the final part was NOT fulfilled when her husband, the late Herbert W. Armstrong was alive, Philadelphian Christians should have looked for its future fulfillment.

Instead, those who are/became Laodicean have ‘drifted away’ from that. And furthermore, they have tended to discount all dreams.

Was God done with dreams?

No, at least not according to the Bible or even the old WCG. As its Personal Correspondence Department in the old WCG sent out a letter on dreams and stated the Bible showed that future dreams from God to His people were expected. It then had a date change added to it and here is a quote from that one:

Thank you for your question concerning visions or dreams. The Bible reveals that in times past servants of God were given visions and dreams for specific reasons and/or to convey special messages. ...God has used this means of communication in the past and will do so again (Acts 2:17; Joel 2:28) (L052 Worldwide Church of God, 1989)

As the WCG did not publicly acknowledge any such dreams after that letter was sent, the interpretation must be that God would later use dreams (it should be mentioned that the original date of L052 was prior to 1986--hence it was not a change by the Tkach Administration).

So obviously more dreams were expected!

Several years ago I had a dream, which while I did not understand it at first,  as it became more and more fulfilled over the years,  I began to understand it and believe it was from God.

I was 50 at the time (which essentially makes me an ‘old man’  per Numbers 8:25; cf. John 8:57). At first it made little sense. Yet, the Prophet Jeremiah at least once wondered about a message he received and later determined it was from God (Jeremiah 32:6-8), and the Apostle Peter at least once had a vision that he did not understand (Acts 10:9-17) until later as well (Acts 11:5-17). The same goes for Daniel (Daniel 8).

Of course, some do not accept how God works. They will NOT listen to the word of God as they seem to think that unless an organization makes an announcement about an ordination it is suspect. But that it not how God works (remember, for example David's private anointing as king in 1 Samuel 16:1-9)--plus we tend to see in the Bible that the anointing of prophets is frequently not mentioned as a public matter.

I also had another dream (and do not recall precisely when, but it was prior to 2012) reminiscent of a vision that Isaiah.  In that dream, I recall responding to a request from God and saying, “Here I am, send me” (cf. Isaiah 6:8). I have spoken God's word faithfully.

You might say to yourself I made all this dream stuff up or that the dreams were not from God. Let's look at something else:

16 ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’ (Matthew 18:16)

19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder except from two or three witnesses. (1 Timothy 5:19)

Furthermore, while I had two dreams, three more who ended up affiliating with CCOG had dreams as well.

There have now been at least five witnesses for dreams in the CCOG--dreams that were confirmed by subsequent events.

And as far as more dramatic events, we will see those in God's timing. Even The Two Witnesses do not get dramatic power until 1260 days or so before they are to die (Revelation 11:3).

Since I have covered the first three before, but did not know of the other two until 2017, I will try to cover those. Dreams and visions are something that God intended to use during the end times (cf. Acts 2:17-18; Joel 2:28-29).

In 2017, I went back to Kenya to put on a church conference.

On this trip, Aleksandar 'Sasha' Veljic attended from Europe and spoke to various ones there. After the conference, he sent the following from Serbia:

Dear Bob,

For the first time in my 25 years of being in the Church of God, I have finally experienced an enthusiastic embrace worldwide that we make a joint humbling before God and ask Him to open more doors and intervene in our various problems.  You said on the Sabbath in Kenya that you hoped this was the Church I thought I became part of when I was baptized in 1992.  Indeed, this is the Church I believed I became part of back then.

Another fulfilled dream.  I learned on February 26th that another dream was fulfilled.  I used to be very cautious about dreams because I thought that they might be just figments of our human imaginations (and, as you know, the former hierarchies strongly discouraged deriving any conclusions from our dreams).  So, the fact that dreams can be used as a message from God is a totally new thing to me, even though it has been in the Bible all along.  Even that aspect shows you why I felt distrustful and weary of any hierarchy.  All of those hierarchies impended the work of God in many ways.  Anyhow, this is what Ondigo wrote me on February 26th:

„I remember several occasions when fasting has helped me. Before you came to Kenya, I fasted for you and Bob's coming. On the same night after fasting, I saw in a dream Bob smearing oil on my body and some pure water like a waterfall dropped on my head. I have never told anybody that dream because I usually do not tell people my dreams. Imagine, I did not know that I would be ordained so I think it was the fulfillment of the dream".

So, Fred Ochieng had a dream about your path lit with light and Ondigo Ochieng had a dream I have just quoted.  Amazing.

Best regards,

Sasha

Notice that Sasha was somewhat of a dream skeptic, but realized that the Bible often told about dreams.

The situation with Nimrod Ondigo Ochieng is interesting. He attended the Nairobi conference in 2014 and no one was ordained with oil then--there were no ordinations at that conference--so it was not like there was a precedent. The comment about pure water dropping on his head would seem to be a reference to the prayer I gave during his anointing (he was anointed as a deacon) and the receipt of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we have another confirmed dream associated with the Continuing Church of God.

Here is a written report from Frederick Ochieng (who is not related to Nimrod Ondigo Ochieng) on his dreams as well:

Dear pastor

Greetings pastor.  I believe you are doing good though you are having great thrust of fulfilling Matthew 28:19 of which we must do before the return of Christ. ...

I had two dreams

1. Before our family joined CCOG my father was then working with voice in the Wilderness Church of God. When I was sleeping I had a dream and in my dream I saw a light and the light was not normal, the one who was standing by the was You pastor Bob according to my dream. Then I had voice shouting, "Arise you who are sleeping, for the Lord is near." I again I heard another voice shouting, "Come up Evans and let us do the work we are called to do." I then saw a man dressed in white clothes join hands with my father walking together towards a very big lake then I woke up.

2: In my second dream some weeks after my first dream and in my second dream I saw almost the same dream and now this was in New Zealand. I did not know about the CCOG group in New Zealand before I had the dream.

Fred

Related to the first dream, in March of 2014 Frederick's father Evans Ochieng came with the Continuing Church of God. When he came, he came with about 260 people from Kenya and Tanzania. His son Frederick's dream showed that we would have much growth in Africa. He and his father listened to God.

In time leaders from other African countries, who did not know Evans Ochieng (nor about the dream), contacted me. We held a conference that many COG leaders from six African countries attended last year.

As of December 2018, we have about fourteen times as many in Africa than when Frederick Ochieng had his dream. So, the dream of working the lake was confirmed--Evans Ochieng and I became a productive "fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19).

And, we have had leaders of groups from other continents contact as well, which is why we have people on all inhabited continents (all continents except Antarctica).

These actions brought the following to mind:

27 Now when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. (Acts 14:27)

We should be grateful for God calling people, Gentiles or otherwise.

As far as New Zealand goes, the first congregation that came with the CCOG was the group in New Zealand. When I asked Frederick Ochieng about New Zealand he said knew nothing about New Zealand and any connection with the CCOG prior to his dream. While we have not have much membership growth in New Zealand itself, those in New Zealand have been heavily involved in doing the work to reach people around the world. They have been the primary editors of our church publications, have developed a website, put up and managed our Bible News Prophecy Flipboard page, and have produced our Bible News Prophecy online radio. His dream may have been telling him that I (Bob Thiel) was working with those in New Zealand to fulfill Matthew 24:14 and Matthew 28:19-20 to reach the world.

Of course, many in West seem to act like only Westerners count and having few Westerners means that God is not granting the blessings that THEY decide are the criteria. Yet, consider the following the Apostle Paul wrote:

9 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

Having Africans and other poor people does not make us weak as far as God is concerned.

There is also what could be considered as a sixth person.

In the late Fall of 2018, India host, Sani Mao sent me several emails that I asked him to consolidate to give all some information about him, the group in India, and the process of them deciding to be part of CCOG (bolding his):

Dear Sir,

I was baptised in 1995 by Pastor Daniel Zechariah of the WCG and he still probably lives at Hyderabad. My association began sometime in 1987 and I completed the Bible course in 1991.

When the WCG went through the changes, I also left it, without anything against it though.

My wife and I were married in the Manipur Baptist Convention Centre Church in 1998 when I left WCG as it was for all practical purposes another Protestant church. The articles in The Plain Truth magazine became very watered down from the crystal clear pictures I used to get in reading it and the comfort I got from reading The Good News. I also could not pay the subscription. I had been paying my tithes to the Hyderabad office. I read the weekly paper publication of the WCG under Tkach Jr. one after another with pages and pages of photos of ministers being excommunicated with the hope that they be repentant! That was the time I left, and joined the Baptists. However during the time I heard a voice in a dream that the Sabbath remains and is valid.

In 2003 I went to Hawaii, USA to attend the Haggai Leadership Training Institute in Evangelism. But the teaching of Kingdom of God was ever in me. I visited quite of lot of Baptist churches preaching the Good News of the Kingdom of God and in the various Haggai Leadership Seminars.

In time emails and the internet began to boom and I went searching for what became of the WCG which was turning Grace Communion International.

I stumbled onto a web page that listed all the Churches of God. It was an exit group. The conversation was nothing near edifying as a CoG should be. Some of the criticisms were so silly they helped me get closer to target.

So I began to read through the profiles of PCG, RCG, UCG, LCG and others, I followed Dr. Thiel’s opinion on the true Church. I went to LCG because Dr. Thiel was in there.

When I saw that the Sabbath continues to be valid I joined the LCG. While the ministers were arriving, I had a dream again. I was at the airport and I saw not an L-shape but a C-shape route on the ground which I could not comprehend nor tried to understand at the time.

I had considered the “C” could be a “U” depending on one’s view point! What if it meant the United CoG? They write pretty good too! But when I read that Victor Kubik went for a small birthday celebration, I changed my mind. I decided to stick to the 18 truths that you wrote about (and it was a sermon topic) and decided to invite LCG ministers since you also showed your preference for LCG at the time.

From my dream, I wrote to {CCOG elder} Sasha Veljic and told him that perhaps the C represents “Continuing“. And that dream was well before the CCOG formed.

My wife is also a believer. [She said because the Baptist Pastor had prayed, “Our Mother in heaven”, this was an important reason for leaving the Baptist Church!] She was baptised by LCG minister, Mr. Rajendra Rao Moses.

Later on when Dr. Thiel moved out of LCG, I too found LCG talking of things that were hard to reconcile with the Bible. For further confirmation, I began to study again.

In the meantime, differences started popping up and we were made to decide.

So we also moved out, or to put it more politely, LCG left us.

Early this year an associate left us; one who I put in charge to verify the credentials of ministers and churches. He communicated with Gaylyn Bonjour  and [with you too!] concluded that since Gaylyn Bonjour did not intend any ministerial credentials upon you when Gaylyn Bonjour prayed for Double Portion on you, that your position is invalid. But since he was in habitual error, I felt he misunderstood. It made me sit up and now I am quite convinced of CCoG and that is our story. I disagreed with him.

I must also thank for his [and Peter Salemi’s] rather unkind mention of Dr. Thiel, in this endeavor.

I explained as a host to the group who are former members of LCG the following:

1) Isaac did not intend Jacob to be blessed. But it happened. And Isaac reiterated, the blessings once bestowed cannot be undone.

2) Jacob then dreamt of a ladder that ascended to heaven and saw thousands and thousands of angels descending and ascending. God had endorsed the blessing made by Isaac upon him.

3) Elijah said to Elisha that his request was difficult. Nevertheless, the later used the former’s cloth to cross over the Jordan.

4) Reaching a town he encountered some unruly children who made fun of him. Thereupon she-bears came out and silenced them.

5) I also told them of a US lady senator who carried a gun close to her chest. It was obviously for self defence. But while changing her clothes the gun accidentally went off and the bullet pierced her jaws and head . She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. This was not intended, but it was an irreversible action.

Gaylyn Bonjour may not have intended you to be a minister who exceeds in rank over the presiding Evangelist.

After these things were discussed, the net was then busy with discussion on the scenario on how the elderly Evangelist would have handled the issue of having a younger bypass him.

But his [Gaylyn Bonjour’s] pronouncement too cannot be reversed. And you have asked him this question too.

This in a way has settled an unsettled question in my mind.

So I would like to work together as we wish to be part of CCOG.

With regards,

K. Sani Mao.

Perhaps I should add that in the Fall of 2011, two ministers of LCG told me prior to the double-portion anointing by Gaylyn Bonjour that I did NOT need to have hands laid on me to be a prophet, nor did I need any type of credentialing. However, I told them that I felt, biblically (e.g. 2 Timothy 1:6), that some type of laying on of hands anointing was needed (as God’s ‘credentialing’ through the laying on of hands was needed). Furthermore, I prayed in November 2011 that if being a prophet was or was not God’s role for me that something would happen in my trip to LCG’s Charlotte office the next month to make this clearer.

Anyway, Sani Mao said he had two dreams and he felt that the letter C in the second one pointed to the CCOG (or perhaps COGwriter).

Perhaps I should mention that another person (we could call her the seventh) told me her dream (in 2014 I believe), and I provided her an interpretation, but she would not accept it and did not come with us. Not all respond to messages, via dreams or otherwise.

I believe that certain dreams are truly partial confirmations that the Continuing Church of God was to lead (at least three had dreams happened prior to CCOG’s formation), and now is leading, the final phase of the work. The truths that we teach should be accepted as the major proof:

45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. (John 8:45)

Believe the truth, at least for the truth's sake. Christians are to believe and know the truth (1 Timothy 4:3). The truth sets Christians free (John 8:32) from all types of error (including Laodicean ones, cf. Revelation 3:14-22).

Test the Spirits, But Be Willing to Believe

The Bible teaches, “test the spirits, whether they are of God” (1 John 4:1).  A former board member of the old Global Church of God, who is not part of the Continuing Church of God, wrote the following in late 2013 (bolding his):

When we need to know what is about to happen, God will show us through direct revelation and through the right Scriptures at the right time.
Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets (Amos 3:7).

The entire New Testament is like this…

1Cor 14:29-32 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

1Cor 14:37-39 If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord. But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant. Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues…

1Jo 4:1-2 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,

Note: If there were no true prophets, there would be no need to “test the spirits”—because every prophet would be a “false prophet”. But because there are both true prophets and false prophets, we need to “test the spirits”…

Many have said, “If God is still providing prophets to the church, where are they?” My church—even my whole denomination—does not recognize any.” Our national leaders do not recognize any either. That is “business as usual” when it comes to prophets. We must remember that God sends prophets to speak His messages and do His work, which often conflicts with the purposes of political and religious leaders...

The gift of prophecy is not vulnerable to electronic surveillance, network failures, police action, restrictive laws or religious censorship. It works in any language, custom or culture. It works no matter what other nations and churches do. (Edwards N. Need Prophets More than Prophecy. Shepherd’s Voice, Fall 2013)

Yes, because a group leader does not recognize a prophet, that does not mean the prophet is not valid. The above article also quoted several scriptures that demonstrate that.

Do not let your pride get in the way of acting on the truth (Revelation 3:11).

The fact that many in and out of the Church of God make fun of me and the CCOG is NOT a reason to not support us. Laodiceans make up a lot of excuses, but they (and others) need to rely on the Bible.

Notice the biblical test:

1 If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, 2 and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, 'Let us go after other gods' — which you have not known — 'and let us serve them,' 3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him. (Deuteronomy 13:1-4)

If a prophet tells you to worship false gods or to break God's laws, you are not to listen to him.

But if the prophet does not do that, but instead teaches to obey the true God (see Should You Observe God's Holy Days or Demonic Holidays?) and to keep God's laws (see, for example, The Ten Commandments: The Decalogue, Christianity, and the Beast), then he has passed that part of the test and should be heeded.

For more on prophets, check out the article How To Determine If Someone is a True Prophet of God.

Sadly, people seem to want to believe lies. The BBC reported:

19 November 2017

In 2010, a landmark study by two psychologists showed that facts fails to sway our opinions. Indeed, Brendan Nyhan and Jason Reifler argued that fact-checking can actually make us more entrenched in our political biases.

When someone presents us with evidence contrary to our beliefs, we feel under siege and dig in our heels. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-42031670 accessed 11/19/17

Christians, especially non-Philadelphian ones (cf. Revelation 3), want to believe the lie that they and their church situation is fine and pleasing to God. But Jesus did not find it that way.

Things are not always as they seem to us.

9 "The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?
10 I, the Lord, search the heart,
I test the mind,
Even to give every man according to his ways,
According to the fruit of his doings. (Jeremiah 17:9-10)

Those of us in the Church of God have had a variety of tests and trials. Satan wants us to be discouraged so that we do not make it. We cannot believe the lie that we do not reap what we sow. We must strive to produce the Philadelpian fruits that God wants from us.

We have to look past this present physical existence to the future coming Kingdom of God. We must listen to God and constantly remind ourselves, "that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us" (Romans 8:19).

Proclamation Success

How do you test, other than to assure yourself that what is said is not in contradiction with scripture?

Let's consider proclamation fruits.

On December 30/31, 2012 at the News of those once affiliated with the Global Church of God page I posted a prediction that I felt that in its first 30 days the Continuing Church of God would reach more people with the COG message than any non-GTA group that came out of the old Worldwide Church of God as well as any group that came out of the old Global Church of God.

When I made the prediction, only one radio interview was actually scheduled, and one was for a program with a relatively small  listenership.  As it turns out, I was invited to be another show with a much larger audience. According to the lowest estimates of audience by the two radio hosts (and yes, they could exaggerate, though they assured me that they were not doing so), on behalf of the Continuing Church of God, I was able to reach well over 2,000,000 via radio (the highest audience estimates were multiple times that large) in the past couple of weeks.

Perhaps I should add that the radio presence was unexpected. We did not pay to be on nor reach out to them--we were contacted by the hosts of both programs. We have done about 130 radio interviews in the past 6 years--which we do not pay to be on.

Consider that the Bible teaches at least part of the final phase of the work will be done by God's Spirit through His people, but many will not have the faith to believe:

6 This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:
'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,'
Says the Lord of hosts. (Zechariah 4:6)

7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

5 Look among the nations and watch —
Be utterly astounded!
For I will work a work in your days
Which you would not believe, though it were told you. (Habakkuk 1:5)

Can you believe? Various ones have wrongly stated that they cannot put their priority of the proclamation Work of God for lack of money. That is clearly unbiblical.

Christians are to "walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7) and:

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Most will not do that. Consider the following:

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. (Proverbs 3:7)

Laodiceans are wise in their own eyes (cf. Revelation 3:14-22).

Now what about the internet back in early 2013? Tallying unique visitors over multiple websites is difficult, so I originally considered not to include any of the visitors to the www.ccog.org, ContinuingCOG channel, or the Bible News Prophecy channel (none of which had content 30 when the prediction was made). And without them, the amount of unique visitors for the first 30 days that statistics show was a little over 100,000.

The proclamation goal was hit!

To answer the question, JUST WHAT IS THE WORK?, Herbert W. Armstrong personally wrote:

But Christ said to His Philadelphia era Church, that because we have but little strength, He would OPEN THOSE DOORS TO US (Rev. 3:8)" (Letter 11/19/76).

The PURPOSE for which Christ built the Church exemplifies its WORK...1) To ANNOUNCE to the world for its witness the coming Kingdom of God...2) To prepare the people to whom God adds to the Church...God has always worked with humans. He has worked with O N E  M A N at a time...The WORK consists of proclaiming the Gospel, by radio, by television, in print (Armstrong HW. JUST WHAT IS THE WORK? PASTOR GENERAL'S REPORT - VOL.3, NO.6 February 6, 1981)

Notice that Herbert Armstrong believed that God mainly worked through the leadership of one man at a time to lead various phases of the work. Scripture, shows for example, that the mantle passed from Elijah to Elisha (2 Kings 2:9-15). The 'mantle' would currently be with the person/group that truly functioned as the 'pillar and ground of truth' (1 Timothy 3:15)--more on the Philadelphia mantle is in the article The Philadelphia Church Era. Based upon my reading of Revelation 3:14-22 and 12:14-17, the mantle does not get passed to Laodicea.

According to AWstats, people in over 220 countries/territories have accessed our websites. According to YouTube, our videos (BibleNewsProphecy channel, ContinuingCOG channel and CCOGAfrica channel) have been viewed over million times by people in at least 220 countries/territories. Our number of subscribers on YouTube continues to rise and we have taken no specific steps or promotions to do that (actually YouTube sent warnings to us and others that we would likely see a drop in subscribers in December 2018, because it was eliminating ghost accounts--instead of dropping, our counts increased this month).

According to Google, over 161 million impressions on computers around the world have been occurred through CCOG's 'church history' campaigns, since we started this with them in May of 2013 (though we do not know how many are unique computers as opposed to those being reached multiple times).

Millions of people have been reached over the radio.

We are reaching many people without a prior Worldwide Church of God background. This is an exciting new 'door' that has opened up for us.

20 Blessed are you who sow beside all waters (Isaiah 32:20)

We have produced materials in 104 languages, plus English. Thousands of printed books and magazines have been given away.

We have had our Bible News Prophecy magazine produced in fifteen languages so far:

  1. English
  2. Spanish
  3. Tagalog
  4. Mandarin Chinese
  5. Kiswahili
  6. German
  7. Dholuo
  8. Russian
  9. Hebrew
  10. Hindi
  11. Greek
  12. Arabic
  13. French
  14. Chichewa
  15. Ekeguissi

We also have other languages and others expected in the future (currently we are working on Serbian).

Actually, the Continuing Church of God has printed literature in more languages than any known Church of God in history--and hope to increase the number--and this seems to be necessary in order to fulfill Jesus' statements in Matthew 24:14 and Matthew 28:19-20.

The total reach and impact of the websites of the Continuing Church of God and COGwriter.com exceeds the impact of the bottom 90% of groups with origins in the old WCG combined. Furthermore, the popularity of the COGwriter.com website exceeds all but a few of COG groups. The Continuing Church of God has been highly effective on the internet.

We Christians are to preach “this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations” (Matthew 24:14), “make disciples of all the nations” (Matthew 28:19), and ultimately results in followers from “all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues” (Revelation 7:9; cf. Daniel 7:14). Thus, it makes sense to get materials into whatever languages God will open up to us (cf. Revelation 3:7-8; 1 Corinthians 16:9; 2 Corinthians 2:12).

Since the formation of CCOG, I have visited the Middle East, preached in North America, preached in South America, preached in New Zealand, preached in Europe, and preached in Africa. CCOG has congregations around the world (see Congregations of the Continuing Church of God). Plus we have others in nearly all of those areas supporting the work.

We have also reached millions over the internet.

CCOG has also sent requested printed literature to all continents and does so on a regular basis.

Dr. Thiel wrote and had three booklets printed in 2014 (Continuing History of the Church of God and Faith for Those God has Called and Chosen and Where is the True Christian Church Today?), a fourth in 2015 (Prayer: What Does the Bible Teach?), a fifth (Should You Observe God’s Holy Days or Demonic Holidays?) and a sixth (The Gospel of the Kingdom of God) in 2016, and a seventh in 2017 (The Ten Commandments: The Decalogue, Christianity, and the Beast). In 2018, five books were written (Is God Calling You?, Is God’s Existence Logical?, Dating: A Key to Success in Marriage, a practical dating guide for Christians, Christians: Ambassadors for the Kingdom of God, Biblical instructions on living as a Christian and Proof Jesus is the Messiah).

He also has predominantly written 25 magazines, including also producing lessons of the Study the Bible Course. All of which are now also online.

Dr. Thiel has been involved now in baptizing people on all inhabited continents except South America and expects that to happen in the future. Fruits are being born (John 15:16; Luke 6:43-45; Matthew 7:17-20).

What about radio?

We have reached millions around the world over the radio. I, personally, have been interviewed over 120 times on radio programs since the formation of the Continuing Church of God. We also help sponsor a radio program in Ghana, have had others in the CCOG interviewed on the radio, and also have an internet radio presence (see, for example, Letter to the Brethren: June 29, 2017 and Letter to the Brethren: August 10, 2017 and Letter to the Brethren: December 20, 2018).

Plus we also have an online radio presence (Bible News Prophecy online radio). Of course, being on radio is something that COG leaders have done since no later than the 1930s. Radio was used so much to proclaim the gospel of the kingdom and other biblical messages, that after he left CG7, the late Herbert W. Armstrong initially named his group the Radio Church of God. Radio is one of the forms of mass media that we in the Continuing Church of God use to teach people about Jesus’ gospel of the kingdom (Matthew 24:14), warn the world what is coming to pass (Ezekiel 33:1-10; watch also Go, Set a Watchman), and provide other teachings (Matthew 28:19-20). I, personally, have been interviewed, on average, once every three weeks since the official formation of the Continuing Church of God on 12/28/12. This seems to be significantly more than any other COG leader in the 21st century that I am aware of. It remains my belief that getting secular media coverage will be part of how we will be able to reach the world with the witness of the Kingdom of God that Jesus said would happen prior to the end (Matthew 24:14).

While the late Herbert Armstrong would go on radio live daily, often with a newspaper going over prophecy, in the 21st century, I continue that tradition in modern times by making three posts daily involving news, doctrine, and prophecy. This getting prophetic news out daily is consistent with how the Philadelphian era of the COG began.

Plus it aligns with what Jesus said to do in Mark:

28 "Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So you also, when you see these things happening, know that it is near — at the doors! 30 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

32 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. 34 It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. 35 Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming — in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning — 36 lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. 37 And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!" (Mark 13:28-37)

Notice what Paul wrote:

14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:14-15)

Animations: In 2018, we decided to begin to put together animations (see CCOG Animations Channel). Four are up now, and another should be ready in early 2019.

Now, one critic made fun of us here by essentially saying we have had so few views on our first animation, why would we consider animations success and make more?

Well, Jesus taught:

24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. (John 7:24)

That particular critic looked at the public statistics from YouTube. But we have had other views of the channel from other sources. Currently, we have had over 40,000 views of the animations via Facebook promotion, and those statistics are not shown by YouTube.

Since 2002, I have been teaching that part of the way that Matthew 24:14 will be fulfilled will be through the attention of outside media.

This is happening.

In my 2015 sermon The Short Work, I mentioned my belief that the short work alluded to in Romans 9:28, as well as the final fulfillment of Matthew 24:14, would partially happen as the result of media coverage.

While now is not the time for the fulfillment of Romans 9:28, we did just get some media attention.

The UK Express ran three articles where I was mentioned by name: World War 3 WARNING: US told ‘consequences of bombing Syria’ set the stage for WAR and World War 3 PROPHECY: Did ‘Balkan Nostradamus’ Baba Vanga predict Putin’s rise to power? and End of the world: Will the world end on April 23? Will World War 3 break out?

In the first one, they embedded part of this week’s recommended sermonette video: Syria and the start of World War 3. Now, the way it was embedded does not affect the statistics that YouTube supplies us, so we are not sure how many have seen the version the Express put together. But, as a media outlet, obviously more have now seen this.

Of course, the coverage was not intended to be flattering. But that is consistent with the prophetic words of Jesus:

11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you (Matthew 5:11-12).

It is not that the UK Express was spreading evil falsehoods about us, per se, in all of the articles. But the coverage is ‘tabloid’ like and used unflattering titles.

That being said, media attention will amplify our reach and I believe will be a factor in the prophesied fulfilling of Matthew 24:14.

But before going further, let me add that someone from the UK Express contacted me on December 20, 2018 to ask my prophetic advice and commentary on an astronomical event expected for December 24, 2018. Even some unflattering things can be useful as what was published on December 24, 2018 was positive/respectful towards our views, see: Christmas Eve asteroid: Is this the biblical Star of Bethlehem? Is it a sign from Jesus?

Now, this 2018 UK Express is not the first media attention that we got. We actually got a lot of Chinese media attention several years ago. Plus, between myself and two others in CCOG, we have done about 130 radio interviews that have been broadcast on secular stations. Also, from time to time, mainstream media sources (like the Washington Post) have accessed and published our information.

Furthermore, we put out a Bible News Prophecy video in November 2018 titled PESCO and a Great European Army. It has had a bit over 800 views--which is less than we expected. But, someone else promoted has it and that promotion has received nearly 300,000 views in the past month (it was over 294,800 on 12/21/18).

Also, someone ask to use much of our December 10, 2018 Bible News Prophecy video Sanhedrin makes burnt offering to dedicate altar!

As of 12/21/18, that source had over 22,100 views, and our YouTube channel showed almost 2,000 views, hence about 24,000 have now seen that video.

We can document more than 1,400,000 views of our videos (including Facebook and promotions from others). According to YouTube's official statistics, we are have had over 4,000 views per week in the past year--not counting the additional 337,000 in the past four weeks we had from Facebook and the two re-users (which means we actually reached over 88,000 people per week in the past four weeks).

But the mainstream is rebelling against biblical and conservative content.

Internet companies have been blamed for intentionally biasing their algorithms resulting in 90% drops in website visits for some supposedly conservative websites.

This type of thing started to hurt us by mid-2017. Our YouTube recorded views stopped increasing as they had been.

It is important that we are willing to consider "alternative media' these days. More and more censorship of ideas considered to be conservative or biblical are taking place by those who consider themselves part of the 'mainstream media." While we do NOT need to be into the type of conspiracy theories various ones in the alternative media promote (cf. Isaiah 8:12), we should go through doors that are opened (Revelation 3:7-8) as well as overcome (Revelation 3:12).

While we are not to compromise with the world, we are to teach those in the world. Jesus, you all should recall, was criticized for hanging out with sinners of various sorts (Matthew 9:10-11, 11:19). And He defended that (Matthew 9:12-13).

Judge righteously.

But many think they know how to judge and have improperly dismissed CCOG.

For more on proclamation, check out the article The Final Phase of the Work.

Size and Growth

Have the proclamation efforts born any fruit?

Yes.

The 7th Day Churches of God, Church of God News page, reported the following about us in 2016:

Continuing Church of God

Robert Thiel  reports:

We had 1900 people attend the Feast of Tabernacles’ sites of the Continuing Church of God this year, which is up over 30% from last year. For details and photographs, here is a link to a series of reports titled: 2016 Feast of Tabernacles Report. We also have others that claim affiliation, but were unable to attend because of financial limitations. Currently, we have over 2000 (including children) declaring they are in the Continuing Church of God.”

This is the highest festival attendance of any church group not started by former ministers of the Worldwide Church of God.

That observation about the high festival attendance is correct. The other 3 COG groups whose leaders were once part of the old Worldwide Church of God (WCG), that are larger than the Continuing Church of God, were all started by men who were ministers in WCG.

Notice something that the old Radio Church of God published:

One of the outstanding fruits of this end-time work is that it has been increasing approximately 30 percent a year in almost every phase of operation. The church of Philadelphia is growing in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, it is also growing in size and in influence. Are you growing 30 percent a year?

God has given each one of us an "open door" to do His end-time Work. If we are not doing that work, we are not a part of the Philadelphia Church. (Neff L. Are YOU a Philadelphia Christian? Good News, April-May 1966)

The only COG to have have that type of growth in the 21st century has been the Continuing Church of God.

Since its formation, the Continuing Church of God has been the fastest growing of all COG groups. We have exceeded a compounded 30 percent growth in congregants.

That does not mean we have not had any losses. Not counting those that were never truly wish us in Africa (ones who were mainly financially focused), we lost some in Tanzania (6 people), some eslewhere in Africa (a few dozen), Canada (6 people), New Zealand (2 people), the USA (6 or so people), and other places for different reasons.

Basically, those that left us, left us because they decided some improper doctrine was important (like improperly insisting on sacred names and asserting that the New Testament was written in Aramaic; whereas a couple left in Tanzania because we allow people to stay in hotel rooms, which is consistent with scriptures, during the Feast of Tabernacles). And yes, I expect that we will suffer losses in the future.

Difficulties have long faced the Church of God. The early disciples declared:

22... "We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God." (Acts 14:22)

In my view, most of those who left did not understand the applicability of the following verses:

11 Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. (Revelation 3:11)

14 Happy is the man who is always reverent, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity. (Proverbs 28:14)

They did not 'hold fast' to the truth, but instead hardened their hearts by pridefully clinging to beliefs which were in error (here are links to five articles that Philadelphians understand better than those who are not Philadelphians: Should the Church Still Try to Place its Top Priority on Proclaiming the Gospel or Did Herbert W. Armstrong Change that Priority for the Work?, The Bible, Peter, Paul, John, Polycarp, Herbert W. Armstrong, Roderick C. Meredith, and Bob Thiel on Church Government, The Philadelphia Church Era, Was the New Testament Written in Greek, Hebrew, or Aramaic?, and The Bible, Church History, and Sacred Names).

Despite the relatively few losses we have had, we now have between 4500-5000people around the world, in about 70 congregations, with most of our congregations in Africa (see Congregations of the Continuing Church of God). I expect more growth in non-African nations, and we have had that in the latter portion of 2018. I expect more in the future.

Jesus taught that fruits will identify the true from the false:

15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. (Matthew 7:15-20)

So, fruits are the criteria Matthew recorded that Jesus set to determine if one is a true or false prophet.

Good trees produce a lot of fruit.

Deuteronomy 7:13 refers to people as the fruit of the womb.

If fruits can be defined as people in the Church of God, then CCOG has those.

Since CCOG formed, it has produced the most fruit that way than any xWCG group.

On December 5, 2018, The 7th Day Sabbath Church of God News website had the following on its news page:

The figures reported by the churches are:

United Church of God: 12,360 according to Peter Eddington on 26th February 2018.
Church of God a Worldwide Association: approx.11,000 (5,500 in the USA), according to Jim Franks on 29th November 2018.
Continuing Church of God: 3,800 according to Robert Thiel. (Over 3600 are in Africa.)
The LCG, PCG and RCG do not give out numbers, but attendances for all three have been declining significantly.
Living Church of God: 6,000? 9,000 was presumably the attendance when Robert Thiel left LCG to form his own church, and it surely hasn’t sunk to 3,000 today. The only membership loss announced publicly was the transfer of the Geneva, Switzerland, congregation to COGWA.
Philadelphia Church of God: 3,500? Stephen Flurry commented a couple of years ago that PCG had levelled out at around 5,000. In 2017 The Philadelphian magazine listed 143 congregations, indicating that 2,000 must be on the low side.
Restored Church of God: 1,000? If it isn’t down to this figure (or lower) now, it surely will be soon – David Pack is continually losing members and ministers – even his second-in-command left recently.

COGWA is the natural beneficiary of transfers from LCG, PCG and RCG ...

(As far as LCG goes, that the 6,000 estimate above was low so I called its Charlotte HQ on 12/05/18 and verified that they have a bit over 10,000.

While size is not an indicator of truth, the truth is that the CCOG has been the fastest growing COG in the 21st century. Growth in size, without doctrinal compromise, is a proper fruit.

Consider also that the three groups with more congregants than CCOG (UCG, COGWA, LCG) have essentially been slow growing and the other two shown on the post (PCG and RCG) have had substantial losses of congregants in the past 6 or so years.

Unlike UCG, COGWA, and LCG who got the bulk of their members because of a split from another organization (as PCG also somewhat also did–but not as quickly directly as the others did), CCOG did not do that.

Anyway, the only group in the list above to add over 4,000 congregants in the past six years is the Continuing Church of God which began with 4 members and two prospective members on December 28, 2012, and only had dozens a year later.

Thus, the only group of the six listed xWCG ones that has the fruits of a prophet is the CCOG.

Laodiceans, however, refuse to accept that.

They decide (they reason around this).

They say, well anyone can get Africans to come with them, and since CCOG has mainly Africans, this does not count.

Well, that was basically the same attitude that the Jews had in New Testament times concerning the calling of Gentiles. They did not think that the Gentiles counted.

But the Bible teaches otherwise:

27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:27-29)

Furthermore, Laodiceans do not seem to understand the following scripture:

25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. (Romans 11:25)

The late Pastor General of the old Worldwide Church of God, Herbert W. Armstrong wrote:

Now study carefully beginning verse 25: "Blindness in part is happened to Israel [HOW LONG? Forever? No — note it], UNTIL the fulness of the Gentiles be come in" — the end of this age during which God is calling a people from among the gentiles to bear His name (Acts 15:14). And so, says Romans 11:26, "all Israel SHALL BE SAVED [how?]: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob." The Deliverer, Jesus Christ, is coming again!

When He comes, the gentile times will be over — the BLINDNESS will be removed from the Israelites — and their opportunity — their FIRST chance — of salvation will then come to those whom God had blinded! This is at the time when He comes to REIGN on HIS THRONE — the throne of David, with the saints made immortal reigning and ruling with Him — and the time is DURING THE THOUSAND YEARS!

Notice verse 31. These blinded Israelites have not now, in this age, received mercy, that through the mercy of the gentiles saved in this age, they MAY, THEN, obtain mercy and salvation. How? Because these saved gentiles will then be kings and priests, assisting in this wonderful Work! (Armstrong HW. Where Will The MILLENNIUM Be Spent? Tomorrow's Word magazine, September 1971)

Clearly, we are much closer to the time when all the Gentiles are to come in to later be kings and priests!

If you are not with CCOG does your church teach or understand this?

Will you believe the Bible or reason around it?

More of the Gentiles had to be called--and that is happening.

The end does NOT come until the 'gospel of the kingdom' reaches enough nations and the full number (as the NIV, NLT, BSB, CEV, GNT, HCSV, ISV, and NET Bible, put Romans 11:25) of Gentiles God wants in this age come in.

By the way, it should be mentioned that I did not go out and seek growth from Africa per se. Basically, what I did was to put out websites, articles, literature, sermons, and messages to reach around the world (Matthew 24:14, 28:19-20), and African leaders contacted me.

If you really are praying for the kingdom to come as Jesus taught in Matthew 6:10, then you should support CCOG.

Don't use prejudices and other factors stop you from acting on the truth.

The truth is that CCOG has been the fastest growing COG in the 21st century.

Laodiceans and others complain that my ordination to be a prophet was not clear enough for them.

Well, people had the same problem with Moses, Jeremiah, Amos, John the Baptist, Jesus, the Apostle Paul and others.

It is no surprise that this problem still exists today.

Of the allegedly 400 groups whose leaders were once part of the old Worldwide Church of God, the Continuing Church of God is one of the newest, and seems to be the fourth largest in terms of congregants.

Of course, size, of itself, is not what is important. Love, faithfulness, and truth are.

Unlike the formation of many groups like the United Church of God, Living Church of God, and Church of God, a Worldwide Association, there were not discussions among ministers prior to the official formation for CCOG to start or looking to see if there was financial backing. CCOG started out on faith.

Enough faith that within a day or two of our formation, I made the proclamation prediction.

But to put CCOG in a historical perspective, consider something written decades ago by the late Pastor General of the old Worldwide Church of God, Herbert W Armstrong:

Work started

THE WORK of God, which the Church had been added to back up and assist, was started by myself, with only my wife as full time assistant. I started the radio broadcasting program in January, 1934, and The Plain Truth, in February, 1934. The Good News, as the organ for our members, had started earlier in 1933.

The Work GREW. God continued to ADD to His Church such as HE called to back up the GREAT COMMISSION, and to develop the godly, holy and righteous CHARACTER to qualify them to be made kings and priests UNDER CHRIST after His return to earth as KING of Kings at the beginning of the millenial rule.

For 35 years the WORK OF GOD grew steadily at the rate of approximately 30 percent a year. I do not know of any organization, secular or of God, that has shown so remarkable growth, starting from NOTHING financially (though we started with something greater — FAITH in the living Christ HEAD of the Church and the WORK). This Work was built literally on FAITH. The living Christ blessed it richly, even though there was carnal opposition and persecution from the beginning.

UNMATCHED Growth

Read carefully now. As the Work grew, so did the human organization to work UNDER me in getting God's Work done. Then, after this 35-year unmatched GROWTH with God's blessing, I made a basic mistake, which I did not then realize was contrary to GOD'S form of organization. It was a detail that NONE in the Church realized was unscriptural.

It happened this way: As the work continued growing and growing, especially after the foundation of Ambassador College, my younger son, Garner Ted, had become converted. Mr. Roderick C. Meredith had entered Ambassador College as a student beginning its third year, fall of 1949. He was developing as a leader under me. He saw the rapid strides my son Garner Ted was making at the time, spiritually. My elder son, Richard D. (Dick), was growing spiritually too, but at a slower more steady rate.

Mr. Meredith began to urge me to make Garner Ted vice president under me, in the Work. I thought it a good suggestion. ...

Christ built Work

Now to the CENTRAL TRUTH leading into today's state of the Work. Brethren, READ THIS SERIOUSLY! Jesus Christ, the living HEAD of God's Church, started this present era of His Work through me. I DID NOT BUILD THE WORK OR THE CHURCH — the living Christ built it, using me as His instrument and His apostle.

But I made the mistake, unrealizing that mistake, of allowing an office of authority to be injected BETWEEN ME AND THE MINISTRY AND CHURCH!

For the first 35 years of this Work, I was the sole human in supreme command, UNDER CHRIST. There was opposition and persecution — from without — but THERE WAS NO QUESTION OF WHO WAS IN CHARGE! During those 35 years the Church and the Work GREW AND GREW AND GREW! It had Christ's BLESSING!

I knew that GOD'S FORM OF ORGANIZATION IS FROM THE TOP DOWN. I DID NOT REALIZE that allowing an office of authority to be interjected BETWEEN me and the Church was contrary to God's form of human organization.

WHAT RESULTED? Great confusion grew in the Church — especially in and around headquarters. "WHO IS REALLY IN AUTHORITY?" many wondered, perplexed. The Work STOPPED GROWING. (Christ Puts Church On Bible Form Of Organization. Good News, June 5, 1978)

Until I saw the above on 12/24/16, I did not realize that according to Herbert W. Armstrong, it was a suggestion by Dr. Meredith that he claimed stopped the church's growth.

We in CCOG have been more faithful to church government than GCG/LCG. Actually, it was mispplications of church government that allowed for the GCG takeover, and ultimately, my departure from LCG.

The Continuing Church of God has essentially exceeded the 30% growth per year that the old Radio/Worldwide Church of God used to claim it had for decades. Many of those that we have with us did NOT have a WCG background as we reached people others had not. (As far as church governance goes, check out the article The Bible, Peter, Paul, John, Polycarp, Herbert W. Armstrong, Roderick C. Meredith, and Bob Thiel on Church Government.)

This growth in CCOG appears to be unmatched by other groups. It is not that others are not larger, but, other than CG7 which did not have WCG origins, they basically started large--as a split from some group--and none of the groups that are currently larger than CCOG have claimed that 30% per year growth--nor had growth approaching what CCOG has had.

In the 21st century, CCOG has had unmatched growth.

It does not mean that will continue, but it, of itself, should be revealing to those will to listen:

8  "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" (Luke 8:8)

Notice also what Jesus said:

1"And to the angel of the church in Sardis write,
'These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: "I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. 2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. 3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. 4 You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. 5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.
6 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."'

7 "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write,
'These things says He who is holy, He who is true, "He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens": 8 "I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name. 9 Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie — indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you. 10 Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. 11 Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. 12 He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.
13 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."'

14 "And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,
'These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: 15 "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing' — and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked — 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
22 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."'" (Revelation 3:1-22)

Jesus pleads in Revelation 3 for groups to listen, but only one of the three really seems to.

We in CCOG best represent the Philadelphia remnant. We have listened and gone through the open doors.

A Major Laodicean Misunderstanding

A signficant reason that non-Philadelphians do not come to, or remain part of, the CCOG in North America is because we do not have congregations close enough for most of our scattered brethren there to attend.

What will happen is that someone will express interest in CCOG and ask if there is a congregation in there area. If the answer is no, I then offer to add their email address to receive the weekly Letter to the Brethren.

Many of them will be interested.

Most will stay for a while.

But if we do not end up with a congregation near them with several months or years, many of them will later ask to be removed from getting the Letter to the Brethren.

What most people fail to realize is that in the days of the old Radio Church of God, it took years to get any type of visit, and a very long time before there were congregations for most to attend.

Philadelphians accept how God works. They do not become Laodicean and conclude that they should not be affiliated with a church without a close congregation. But that is a common Laodicean issue.

Compared to the days of the old Radio Church of God, the CCOG provides more information, more often, as well as a suggested weekly Sabbath service for its scattered brethren. And news and links for Sabbath and Holy Day services are in the weekly Letter to the Brethren.

Those who drop away bring to mind the following parable:

3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: "Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. 8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" (Matthew 13:3-9)

18 "Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." (Matthew 13:18-23)

Those who leave do not endure. Those who stay support the work and produce fruit.

Jesus taught, “For many are called, but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:14). Do not be one called who gives up because there is no group geographically close to you.

The Bible teaches:

4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. 6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. 7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him (Psalm 37:4-7)

Sometimes Christians have to wait and trust God to establish congregations near them.

Have faith in God.

Consider that Jesus said:

31 But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. 32 Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. (Luke 12:31-32)

Do not be afraid of being alone if you have to be. God knows what you need if you will seek His kingdom first.

Remember, Jesus promised Philadelphian Christians that they would be “pillars” in the Temple of God (Revelation 3:12). Therefore in this age, sometimes being a foundational part of a new group, or standing alone in a separated area, could be part of your training for that reward. This can help produce fruit.

Of course, we should fellowship on the Sabbaths when we can (Hebrews 10:24-25). God’s Holy Days, like the Feast of Tabernacles, are another opportunity for that (cf. Leviticus 23:2; Romans 12:1).

In the Continuing Church of God, we hold the Feast of Tabernacles in multiple places around the world. This festival is a time that God expects those that can to travel (cf. Psalm 42:4); far away if need be (cf. Deuteronomy 14:22-27). This festival also gives Philadelphian Christians an opportunity to fellowship together.

Restoration of History, Doctrine, and Prophecy

Similar to Herbert W. Armstrong who refused a salary from the Church of God, Seventh-Day prior to the formation of the Radio Church of God, I on two occasions turned down financial offers (one offer was a salary, the other was less clear) from the Living Church of God, sometime prior to the start of CCOG.

Many anti-COG posters on the internet have falsely claimed that the COG is all about financial enriching the leaders of the respective churches. In my case, I will add that I have never taken a salary from the Living Church of God or Continuing Church of God. This does not mean that I never would, but I have not--nor has my wife Joyce.

But for CCOG, it should be clear this was about integrity and the ability to lead the final phase of the work. It most certainly was not financial. And as finances go, we probably spend a higher percentage of our income to support the poor, widows, and orphans in Africa than all the COGs who have over 100 congregants. Of course, Jesus said, "it is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35).

Notice also more of what the New Testament teaches:

15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. 16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. (Hebrews 13:15-16)

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe — and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? (James 2:14-20)

Despite comments from critics, supporting the poor and hungry is something Philadelphian Christians should do.

On other matters, interestingly, someone not in CCOG mentioned to me in Illinois in October 2016 that CCOG was one of the only, if not the only, COG group he knew of that formed mainly because of doctrinal/integrity issues, as opposed to personality issues. Details on why CCOG had to form are in the article Why Bob Thiel Left the Living Church of God.

Of course, some have dismissed CCOG because I am not the world's great orator. Plus, I often go through many scriptures and sources when I give a sermon. Though factually accurate, my sermons are not as entertaining as many in the 21st century seem to prefer. But they are consistent with the earliest Christian sermons (see What was the Liturgy of the Early Church? A related video is also available: What were early Christian church services like?).

Consider also the following:

9 "Whom will he teach knowledge?  And whom will he make to understand the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just drawn from the breasts?  10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little."

11 For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people,  12 To whom He said, "This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest," And, "This is the refreshing"; Yet they would not hear. (Isaiah 28:9-12)

Furthermore, the Bible is shows that God used the Apostle Paul per 2 Corinthians 10:10 and 11:6, Moses per Exodus 4:10 and the prophet Jeremiah per Jeremiah 1:6, even though they were apparently not good speakers.

Earlier doctrine was mentioned.

In this area, the CCOG has restored more than other groups we are aware of.

This includes church history (see Continuing History of the Church of God), doctrine (see What About the Living Church of God? Are there Doctrinal Differences with the Continuing Church of God?and What is the Meaning of Life?), and prophecy (The Laodicean Church Era ).

Notice something Jesus told Philadelphia:

(Revelation 3:7-11)

CCOG was the first, and may be the only COG, that lists the 18 truths that Herbert Armstrong felt God had him restore to the Philadelphia portion of the COG, as part of its Statement of Beliefs:

1. True Gospel (A booklet of related interest is: The Gospel of the Kingdom of God.)

2. Purpose of God (An article of related interest may include Deification: Did the Early Church Teach That Christians Would Become God?).

3. God’s Plan through the Holy Days (A booklet of related interest is: Should You Observe God’s Holy Days or Demonic Holidays?)

4. Proper Church Government (Two articles of possibly related interest may include The Bible, Polycarp, Herbert W. Armstrong, and Roderick C. Meredith on Church Government and Polycarp’s Letter to the Philippians.)

5. Who and What is God? (An article of related interest may include One God, Two Beings Before the Beginning.)

6. What and Why is Man? (Two articles of possibly related interest may include What is the Meaning of Life? and Did Early Christians Believe that Humans Possessed Immortality?)

7. Spirit in Man (An article of possibly related interest may include Did Early Christians Believe that Humans Possessed Immortality?)

8. Firstfruits In this Age (An article of related interest may include Pentecost: Is it more than Acts 2?)

17. Satan has Deceived the Whole World (An article possibly related interest may be The Day of Atonement–Its Christian Significance.)

18. We Are to Be Separate (Two articles of related interest may include Why Be Concerned About False and Heretical Leaders? and Overview: How Does the Church of God Agree and Disagree with Other Faiths Professing Christ?)

(Statement of Beliefs of the Continuing Church of God)

We also have the 'correct list'--we use Herbert W. Armstrong's list given 12/17/83 (many use the improper Tkach list from the Worldwide News, August 25, 1986; see also The 18 Restored Truths: Do You Know What the First Changes the Tkach Administration Made?), plus teach these truths in more accurate detail than others we are aware of.

In addition, we have taken steps to correct doctrinal errors. The old Global and Living Church of God required my sons to complete the old Radio Church of God Bible Correspondence Course as a prerequisite to baptism. Yet, both sons would come to me when they found clear errors (the most common being that the scripture cited as 'proof' was not correct--but there were exaggeration and other errors as well).

Since a course to study the Bible is helpful for Christian growth, in the CCOG we decided to use the old lessons of the Bible Correspondence Course as a template--to insure the subjects would be covered--but with updating for scriptural accuracy, timeliness, doctrinal accuracy, and with additional scriptures. This has resulted in a restored course that is improved and appropriate for the 21st century (see Study the Bible Course: Lesson 1 In English).

In terms of restoration, we also did two things I never saw in any of the COGs (other than myself try to do)  had previously been part of which were discussed earlier. One was accomplished in 2013 (see The Feast of Tabernacles: A Time to Learn the Law). And the other, teaching all Jesus commanded (Matthew 28:19-20) was accomplished in 2016, but expanded afterwards.

I mentioned to CCOG member Steve Dupuie that anyone could have done these things, but no one else had. His view was no, God had CCOG do them as others would not. Going through all of Jesus' words may not be exciting enough for some, but it is a command.

And in CCOG we followed it.

You might not view this as important if your church leaders have not done this yet. Many will not leave the group they are with even based on their own criteria--but shouldn't faithfulness to God's word count?

As far as other group's specific doctrinal errors go, here are links to articles about many groups--COGs and others:

Concerns About Ronald Weinland's Church of God-Preparing for the Kingdom of God Ronald Weinland falsely claimed to be one of the two witnesses God is raising up, that the Great Tribulation began on December 14, 2008, Jesus would return late September 2011, that Jesus would return on May 27, 2012, and later that Jesus would return on May 19, 2013. Why else does the Bible show that Ron Weinland is a false prophet? He has other views which show he may not be part of the Church of God.?
Worldwide Assembly of Yahweh This is what I'd call a sacred name group.
Church of God, In Truth
This is what I'd call a calendar group.
Church of the Great God This group, led by John Ritenbaugh, says the bride must first be made ready (it de-emphasizes the priority of public proclamation of the gospel). Might this lead to a selfish bride? This group also seriously seems to misunderstand end-time prophecy.

All the non-Philadelphian churches, whose prophetic teachings I have looked into, have one or more prophetic misunderstandings that will prevent them from knowing when the Great Tribulation will start until it is too late.

As far as prophetic teachings go, here is a list of some prophetic errors that other groups claiming to be Church of God have:

  1. Many COG groups (ICG, CGI, UCG, COGaIC, CG7CGG, CEM, etc.) do not officially teach and/or do not believe in the idea of Church eras (The Churches of Revelation 2 & 3), though they sometimes teach about the churches of Revelation.  They tend to take more of a preterist (past) view of those churches, despite the fact that many statements made to them had to have future prophetic ramifications (e.g. Revelation 1:19; 3:3; 3:10). Because of that they do not teach certain prophetic aspects of this, most do not see their own problems and will have to go through the Great Tribulation.
  2. Many COG groups do not believe that the Gospel of the Kingdom still needs to be preached to the world as a witness per Matthew 24:14 (e.g. GCW, PCG), do not really make that a high priority (e.g. COGWA, CGG), or do so in less than truly loving the truth (cf. Jeremiah 48:10; see Why Bob Thiel Left the Living Church of God), hence do not have the real Philadelphian work. As only the Philadelphians are promised to be protected from the hour of trial that will come on the whole world, they will not understand when Matthew 24:14 is fulfilled or when to flee per Matthew 24:15. Hence they do not have or lead the Philadelphian work.  Only the Philadelphians are promised to be protected from the hour of trial that will come on the whole world (see also There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Petra ).  See also Should the Church Still Try to Place its Top Priority on Proclaiming the Gospel or Did Herbert W. Armstrong Change that Priority for the Work?
  3. At least three groups misunderstand the Gospel and COG doctrines so much (PCG, CGPfK, and RCG) that I question if their top leaders are actually converted members of the COG. Two of those leaders have had major predictions be proven false (CGPFK and RCG).
  4. Many, if not most, COG groups do not realize that the Great Tribulation begins with the King of the North invading the USA. UK, and/or their Anglo-Saxon descended allies (Daniel 11:39; see Who is the King of the North?; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).
  5. Many COG groups misunderstand the identity of the King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43), and some have the wrong prophetic sequence regarding the King of the South (see PCG and LCG do not understand the end-time King of the South sequence–do you?). This is not the order that Daniel 11 teaches (see Who is the King of the North?). This view overlooks the fact that since the Great Tribulation is the time of Jacob’s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7), that it begins with the USA and its Anglo-Saxon allies like the United Kingdom getting invaded (cf. Daniel 11:39).  Some of the groups cling to this sequential error, because it was once held by the late Herbert W. Armstrong, who changed his view by 1979 (Armstrong, Herbert W. The Time We Are In, Now. Pastor General’s Report-Vol 1, No. 15, November 20, 1979).  Since the King of the North will eliminate those of the strongest fortresses (the USA, Canada, etc.) in Daniel 11:39, prior to invading the King of the South in Daniel 11:40, those who hold to this view will not know when the Great Tribulation will begin until after it has started.
  6. Some (CEG, GCG-UK) teach that there is no biblically-required King of the South, while at least one group is unsure (CGF-NW)–but this is an error (see also Is the Future King of the South Rising Up?).  This error contributes to other prophetic errors that those groups have.
  7. Some have insisted that the final King of the South will be from the nation of Ethiopia. This is partially based upon a mistranslation in the KJV version of the Bible as well as a position that the late Herbert Armstrong once held. However, he changed his position in the 1960s and 1970s to an Arabic-Muslim confederation. Those who insist that the final King of the South must be Ethiopia will not possibly realize that the Great Tribulation will begin until it is too late (RCG once held that position, but later changed it; in 2018 LCG has pushed involvement, but not specifically kingship for Ethiopia).
  8. Several COG groups (like CGG, RCG, PCG, COGWA) clearly misunderstand Daniel 9:27, the second half of which ties in with Daniel 11:31 and Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:15. Those who misunderstand it will not have a proper pre-warning of what is happening nor likely know when the Great Tribulation will begin. (see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).
  9. Various COG groups (UCG, COGWA, COGaIC, RCG, and CGOM, come to immediate mind, but they are not the only ones) have so many areas of undefined prophecy that they will not know what certain events will mean.  And groups who define matters wrongly will have problems that way as well (PCG and LCG come to immediate mind, but so do nearly all other COG claimed groups).
  10. A couple of groups, such as  Church of God-Preparing for the Kingdom of God and Triumph Prophetic Ministries, have been repeatedly proven wrong about their dates for the start of the Great Tribulation and the return of Jesus Christ.  Those who rely on the leaders of those groups really do not understand biblical prophecy.
  11. Certain groups teach improper interpretations of the 1335, 1290, and 1260 days of Daniel 12 (CGPFK is one) or have other problems with that (most other COG groups) that they will not understand when the Great Tribulation will start. Herbert Armstrong changed his view on this by 1979 and many never understood the change.
  12. Most COG groups fail to understand Habakkuk 2:2-8 and hence are not properly getting the warning out to the USA and UK (see Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel).  PCG totally misses it, and LCG, while it once would teach it, has backed off because of what appears to be internal politics. The rising ‘time bomb’ of USA debt is something that needs to be pointed out and Habakkuk 2:2-8 points out the biblical threat that this poses. It should be proclaimed and we in CCOG are doing it. Many do not realize that Habakkuk 2:2-8 is related to fleeing and the start of the Great Tribulation, that the time will come when those Philadelphians who understand it in its proper timeframe will flee (see also There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Petra), and is one of the reasons for the attack against the indebted descendants of the tribes of Joseph.
  13. At least one group (LCG) is no longer certain that France or certain other Israelitish nations will support the Beast power (see Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?). This differs from the position specifically taught by the late Dibar Apartian (see The ‘Lost Tribe’ of Reuben: France in Prophecy?) as well as what the Bible teaches (see Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?). Those who misunderstand this are likely to not possibly realize when the final Beast power has formed.
  14. Many COG groups have various ‘Elijah heresies.’ Because of this, they will not be able to recognize the final Elijah.  Some think it must have been Herbert Armstrong, despite the fact that he has been dead since 1986, and that death disqualifies him according to his writing about that (Mystery of the Ages. 1985, p. 349).  Some think that either there is no Elijah to come or that it is the church and not an individual, which goes against Jesus’ teachings on the subject in Mark 9:12-13 (for more details, see The Elijah Heresies).
  15. Many groups do not understand the differing persecutions (and other matters) to come in Daniel 7:25, 11:30-39, Matthew 24:9-22, and Revelation 12:14-17, hence when the prophesied wave of persecution initially hits the Philadelphians primarily (and not them), they will not see this persecution as evidence that the Great Tribulation is about to begin. The old Radio Church of God specifically applied the persecuting scriptures of Daniel 11:32-35 to the end time Philadelphian church (see also Persecutions by Church and State).
  16. Most groups that came out of groups once led by the late Garner Ted Armstrong (ICG, CGI, CEM, etc.) do not seem to teach that there is a physical place of safety (despite what Revelation 12:14-16 teaches), hence they will not be inclined to flee towards one just prior to the start of the Great Tribulation (see also There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Petra).
  17. Most ‘independents’ do not believe that they need to ‘gather together’ prior to the time to flee despite what Zephaniah 2:1-3 teaches, hence it is not likely they will be inclined to flee together when a group they are not part of does just prior to the start of the Great Tribulation (cf. Revelation 12:14-17; see also There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Petra).
  18. At least one group (PCG) misunderstands the final Prince of Rosh.  Those who insist on a pre-return of Jesus Christ for the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38 will be disappointed as that is in scriptural error.
  19. At least one COG group (CG7) basically teaches that most of the events of Revelation have already taken place and no one needs to worry about coming persecution.  Jesus warned those of Sardis to be careful about losing the doctrinal understandings they had (Revelation 3:1-6), and this loss of prophetic knowledge proves that those in Sardis will not know when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  20. At least one COG group (LCG) erroneously believes that the abomination of desolation of Daniel 11:31 occurs after the King of the North invades the King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43; see PCG and LCG do not understand the end-time King of the South sequence–do you?). Since this will not happen that way, those who hold to that position will not understand when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  21. At least one group (RCG) totally misunderstands various prophecies in Haggai and Zechariah and expect a type of reunification that is not prophesied.  Those who rely on this and other misinterpretations will not know when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  22. At least one group (LCG) erroneously teaches that the ‘Falling Away’ warned about in 2 Thessalonians 2 has mainly to do with the world and Protestants and not the Church of God (see The Falling Away: The Bible and WCG Teachings).  This improper emphasis seems to be leading to a falling away of certain prophetic understandings for those who hold to it.
  23. Some groups teach (RCG, UCG, COGWA, LCG) that the man of sin who sits in the temple of God (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4) is the Antichrist, not the Beast of the Sea. Yet, it is this Beast of the Sea, the final King of the North (Daniel 11:35-36; see also Who is the Man of Sin?). So, when this happens, those who hold to the wrong position will not understand its prophetic ramifications.  The identity of the ‘son of perdition’ is important to understand in the end times.
  24. At least one group teaches that the ‘man of sin’ is Joseph Tkach, Jr. (PCG).  This absurd position also partially leads to many other misunderstandings.
  25. A few teach that a Jewish temple in Jerusalem must be rebuilt before Jesus returns (CBCG, RCG, COGFF, CEG, and TPM teach this, as do some in LCG). While this is remotely possible it is not required (the “temple of God” in the New Testament has to do with a Christian, not a modern Jewish, location; see Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?). Since this will not happen as a few sometimes teach, those who hold to that position will not understand when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  26. At least two groups (PCG and LCG) teach that the Beast power will consist of 10 or 11 current nations in the European Union (see Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?). The European Union has 28 nation members with several others hoping to join it. And while it may lose nations, the reality is that if the Beast power rises up when there are more than 11 nations in it, those who hold to that position will not understand when the Great Tribulation will begin. Under Herbert Armstrong, the old WCG taught in at least a dozen documents (Plain Truth, Good News, Tomorrow’s World, booklets, Co-worker letter, Bible Correspondence Course) that this passage referred to 10 nations or GROUPS OF NATIONS. Presuming it will be another number of nations, those who insist on 10 or 11 will not realize when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  27. At least one group (CBCG) teaches that the ten kings are to be in charge of ten regions around the world as opposed to being a primarily European power (though CBCG acknowledges that 10 European regions are possible. Overlooking what will happen in Europe could mean that such a group would not understand when the Great Tribulation would begin.
  28. None of the Laodicean or Sardis COGs seem to teach that the "strongest fortresses" in Daniel 11:39 refers to the USA--but it does (see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses). Although the evangelists at LCG all agreed I was correct about this, when I checked LCG's two major websites in 2017, there was no place where LCG teaches this--this is an improper and dangerous error of omission for LCG--and for the other claimed COGs.
  29. At least two groups seem to teach that the first verse in the Daniel 11 sequence relating to the beginning of the Great Tribulation is Daniel 11:40 (LCG does this in its Official Statement of Fundamental Beliefs, whereas PCG does it elsewhere). Instead they should teach that it begins with Daniel 11:39 (see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses), which is shortly after Daniel 11:31, which is also consistent with the start of the time of Jacob’s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7; see also Who is the King of the North?). Those who hold to the Daniel 11:40 position will not understand when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  30. The leader of at least one group (GOI, James Malm) has claimed that the Great Tribulation could begin within a year for the last 6 or so years.  Since it does not recognize why this is in error, it will not truly know when the Great Tribulation will begin.
  31. Some independents and some groups (PCG comes to mind) insist that the late Herbert W. Armstrong was the final ‘Elijah to come’ even though that contradicts scripture and Herbert Armstrong’s own writings (see The Elijah Heresies).
  32. Leaders of at least two groups (CGPFK and RCG), who once insisted publicly that Herbert Armstrong must be the final Elijah, now falsely claim that they hold that role.
  33. Some groups either do not believe there is an Elijah to come (CGI comes to mind) or do not believe he needs to be a person (LCG comes to mind).
  34. At least one group has confused the final Elijah with the return of Jesus (LCG comes to mind).
  35. At least one group has publicly claimed that God has no prophets today and will not have any until the two witnesses are empowered (LCG comes to mind). This downplays how God works (cf. Ephesians 2:20) and that the Bible teaches, "Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets" (Amos 3:7) (see also How To Determine If Someone is a True Prophet of God).
  36. At least one group (CGG) teaches that the Beast power is not European.  Since the Beast power will arise in Europe, those who do not understand this will not realize when the Great Tribulation is about to begin (see also Europa, the Beast, and the Book of Revelation).
  37. At least one group (LCG) teaches that the European Union will collapse like the old Roman Empire. But the lessons of history and the Bible contradict that (details are in the article Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?).
  38. At least two groups (BICOG and TPM) have taught that a US president is the King of the North or could be the Antichrist.

Christians may think that there is no need for prophets now, but the reality is that various groups have the problems listed above and, unless they repent, they will not know what is happening until it is too late to do much, if anything, about it.

In terms of restoration, we have been Preparing for the 'Short Work' and The Famine of the Word and explained the The Final Phase of the Work.

The Bible teaches:

18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. (Proverbs 29:18, KJV)

We in CCOG have the vision and have demonstrated it. As far as the law goes, check out our booklet: The Ten Commandments: The Decalogue, Christianity, and the Beast.

Notice what Paul told Timothy about persecution, imposters, and evil people:

14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:14-17)

So, we need to continue. Hence, as it turns out, we are called the Continuing Church of God. The word "continuing" was not chosen because of this verse, but that verse is applicable here. The actual verse that, in my view, is more related to having the word "continuing" is the following:

1 Let brotherly love continue. (Hebrews 13:1)

Greek: Hee  filadelfía  menétoo

(Interlinear Transliterated Bible. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 by Biblesoft, Inc. All rights reserved. [For more detail see the full copyright page.])

So, yes, we want Philadelphian love to continue.

Amos 8:12, itself, will apparently happen after Daniel 11:33 and Matthew 24:14 are fulfilled, but portions may begin as early as Daniel 11:28.

In 2014, I was prohibited from videoing in St. Peter's Basilica or Vatican City like I had done some many times before. Basically, the Vatican implemented a policy that they would not allow videoing with narration without its express permission. This basically meant that it would be more difficult to reach some people with the truth about certain matters there.

I did not tie it in with the 'famine of the word' until 2015. That year (2015), I ran into attempts to cause famines of hearing the words of the Lord.

A source that I once used to promote my old 2009 book, 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect, on the radio, returned by money and cancelled the contract to promote my 2015 book, Hillary Clinton, Prophecy, and the Destruction of the United States as the following email shows:

After reviewing full content of your subject, RTIR has decided to apply our "right to qualify all ads." An editorial decision was made that you wouldn't be a good fit for RTIR and wouldn't get a good response with your ad. We will refund you inmmediately (sic). (RTIR, April 15, 2015)

While commercial firms have certain rights, this was a shock and showed that this firm (RTIR) was no longer willing to promote certain ideas it did not embrace. This was a change in its past practices and is consistent with an idea that is growing that certain biblical ideas need to be suppressed.

Furthermore, when I sent out a press release related to that same book Hillary Clinton, Prophecy, and the Destruction of the United States, after agreeing to post it, I got the following response in an email:

Our editors have determined that some changes will need to be made to your press release in order to effectively distribute it on PRWeb. Your press release has been placed on editorial hold status in order to allow you to make the required reviews and edits.

Our editors have made the following notes regarding your editorial hold:...

The body of the release will need to focus on the announcement of the new book. All statements will need to be attributed back to the book, however, as per our legal guidelines, you cannot talk about how or suggest that Hillary Clinton is the antichrist or a sign of the apocalypse. Additionally, PRWeb does not publish releases that might incite fear or panic, which includes those that predict the end of the world or mass destruction of a country. (PRWeb Editorial Advisory 1265335, 4/15/15)

Why also mention this here?

Because a couple of years previous to this, I had submitted virtually the same release for my book: Barack Obama, Prophecy, and the Destruction of the United States. The main difference was that I changed the names. That release was ran as I submitted it, with no type of hold, whatsoever.

Anyway, after submitting a couple of edited re-writes and responses, the following was received (bolding mine):

Despite the fact that you provide "The book does not incite fear about the imminent end of the earth, but explains prophetic writings that point to coming change," your claims are still too strong. Essentially, inciting fear that events surrounding the upcoming presidential election may result in the US's destruction is in violation of our intent to harm guideline. Since this book seems to be centered on these prophesies, it would be wise to either request a refund or choose a new topic. (PRWeb Editorial Advisory 1265335, 4/16/15)

Anyway, with persistence and reducing statements, the press release was finally published the next day.

We are seeing 'political correctness' hitting the media. This is leading to famines of the words of the Lord. How so?

First, I should add that in my book, I explained why Hillary Clinton was not the final antichrist. But if she could have been, it should be something one can say.

Second, it is appropriate to explain how the actions/policies/statements of someone may pertain to the apocalyse. Apocalyse means revealing, and to have a policy that does not allow tying people to biblical events is atrocious. This has been repeatedly allowed throughout modern history, but is now being blocked by at least this one media outlet.

Third, the fact that this book twice had problems with firms I have already worked with in the past indicates that there are even bigger problems looming ahead.

Did you know that the Bible warns about this?

Notice:

8 Now go, write it before them on a tablet, And note it on a scroll, That it may be for time to come, Forever and ever: 9 That this is a rebellious people, Lying children, Children who will not hear the law of the Lord; 10 Who say to the seers, "Do not see,"And to the prophets, "Do not prophesy to us right things; Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits. 11 Get out of the way, Turn aside from the path, Cause the Holy One of Israel To cease from before us."

12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel:

"Because you despise this word,And trust in oppression and perversity, And rely on them, 13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you Like a breach ready to fall, A bulge in a high wall ,Whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant. 14 And He shall break it like the breaking of the potter's vessel, Which is broken in pieces; He shall not spare. So there shall not be found among its fragments A shard to take fire from the hearth, Or to take water from the cistern." (Isaiah 30:8-14)

So, while what happened is not yet the famine of the word, it is consistent with what is prophesied to happen. They want 'smooth things.'

Consider also something that happened later.

In 2016, I received the following in a ‘do not respond’ email from YouTube:

Hi ContinuingCoG,

The YouTube community flagged one or more of your videos as inappropriate. After reviewing the content, we’ve determined that the videos violate our Community Guidelines. As a result, we removed the following videos from YouTube:

Are we saved by faith? Or are we saved by works?

Please note that this removal has not resulted in a strike.

- The YouTube Team

This email and the related removal were outrageous. Because YouTube did not count this censorship as a ‘strike,’ we were not able to find a way to appeal this. Nor did they tell us what they considered wrong–all we got was the above.

The sermon that YouTube censored was by Steve Dupuie and was given at the Feast of Tabernacles in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada in in 2015. He sent me his notes before and after the sermon, and I saw nothing in it that warranted it being pulled by YouTube.

It appears to have been pulled because someone (likely from a Protestant faith) claimed that doctrinal differences were offensive.

Anyway, through something other than its formal appeals process, finally I persuaded YouTube to lift its suspension.

By the criteria that we suspect that YouTube used, it should have to pull not only a CCOG sermon, but most messages by Protestants, Catholics, Buddhists, and Muslims as someone is bound to be offended by some of the theology of those of other faiths.

I have been warning for some time that since the Bible tells of a coming ‘famine of the word’ (Amos 8:11-12), that we should expect YouTube censorship to be part of this.

Because of that, before this censorship, I asked Bill Wedekind to back-up every sermon and sermonette we had on YouTube, and last month he did. So, we have copies of everything, including the video sermon that YouTube censored.

In the Summer of 2017, I noticed that we were having less views than expected for our Bible News Prophecy channel which is uploaded to YouTube. Then a reader sent me the following:

August 1, 2017

Today, YouTube clarified how it plans to handle videos that don’t violate any of its policies but still contain offensive religious and supremacist content: …

In a blog post today, YouTube provided a better sense of what that stance entails. Now, when YouTube decides that a flagged video doesn’t break policy but still contains “controversial religious or supremacist content,” the video will be put in a “limited state.” Here, the video will exist in a sort of limbo where it won’t be recommended or monetized … It also won’t include suggested videos or allow comments or likes. …

alternative media figures and conspiracy theorists have been complaining for weeks that YouTube is already manipulating the algorithms to limit their reach … And this announcement will likely only add to their resentment of a platform that they rely upon to reach their audiences. …

YouTube also announced today that it has added to the list of NGOs it is working with to help determine what content should be hidden. …

YouTube did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The update also touted the success of the machine-learning-driven removal of content, claiming that over the last month, YouTube algorithms have found 75 percent of policy-violating extremist content before a human was able to flag the videos. http://gizmodo.com/youtube-has-a-new-naughty-corner-for-controversial-reli-1797429910

So, YouTube is also using some type of machine to look for what it calls “extremist content.”

As far as religious extremism, please understand that some in the USA believe that ALL who believe in the millennial reign of Jesus are religious extremists and potential terrorists. Also, believing in biblical morality and marriage is considered an extremist view by many. Furthermore, consider that the message of the good news of the Kingdom of God is also considered to be religious extremism by many. Freedom of religious speech is threatened on many fronts.

I have spoken to Bill Wedekind, Steve Dupuie, and two of our sons about how to proceed because of this. At this moment, because YouTube is free, YouTube is available in multiple formats, and YouTube sometimes helps us get viewers, we plan to remain on YouTube. However, we are continuing to look into alternatives in case YouTube ultimately pulls us completely off.

YouTube has NOT threatened to remove us. But since we have what they would consider to be more ‘controversial’ videos up than the one that Steve Dupuie was in, it remains a concern that some day we may be forced to abandon YouTube.

As far as the prophesied 'famine of the word,' I expect to see government agencies pressuring private companies to assist them in that. Policies of various internet firms have allowed this in the past.

In 2016, then US President Barack Obama indicated that which meet his definition of 'conspiracy theories' should not be protected speech (see ‘Obama Enters Media Wars: Why His Recent Attack On Free Speech Is So Dangerous & Radical’). The Bible teaches that a leader, called the Beast of Revelation and the King of the North will arise and mislead people:

23 "And in the latter time of their kingdom,
When the transgressors have reached their fullness,
A king shall arise,
Having fierce features,
Who understands sinister schemes.
24 His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power;
He shall destroy fearfully,
And shall prosper and thrive;
He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people.

25 "Through his cunning
He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule;
And he shall exalt himself in his heart.
He shall destroy many in their prosperity.
He shall even rise against the Prince of princes;
But he shall be broken without human means. (Daniel 8:23-25).

Teaching what the Bible says about this Beast of Revelation and the King of the North leader will likely be considered as a 'conspiracy theory.' Teaching the truths about what will be happening would seem to trigger the prophesied famine of the word.

In light of that, consider also the following:

June 6, 2018

The internet “cabal” of giants such as YouTube, Google and Facebook has adopted algorithms that suppress conservative sources. ...

"... Facebook – along with Google, YouTube, Twitter and Amazon – represent a new ‘Censorship Cartel’ seemingly determined to limit, restrict, define, regulate, inhibit, reduce and restrain the free flow of political speech despite its constitutional protection in the First Amendment.” ...

Farah also noted Google has censored a Christian site because it references “Jesus” and “the Bible.” Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has called the tech giants a “clear and present danger to our democratic system.” http://www.wnd.com/2018/06/limbaugh-site-hit-with-deceptive-warning/#0QfSX1BJIKh392e2.99

In light of that, consider the following from the Bible:

1 Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation;
Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
3 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows — bitter words,
4 That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.

5 They encourage themselves in an evil matter;
They talk of laying snares secretly;
They say, "Who will see them?"
6 They devise iniquities:
"We have perfected a shrewd scheme."
Both the inward thought and the heart of man are deep. (Psalm 64:1-6)

Because of 'secret plots' by internet companies, in 2018 we decided we needed another YouTube channel to separate some of our materials in order to reduce descrimination from YouTube. We also continued to look for alternatives to YouTube, but decided that the currently available alternatives were not better.

Shortly after we did that, it was essentially leaked that the US government was looking to closely monitor all journalists, bloggers, and media influencers (see DHS is monitoring all journalists, bloggers, and media influencers: Will this affect press freedom and lead to the fulfillment of prophecies?). The USA is being set up for more censorship--and sites like COGwriter.com are being monitored.

Concluding Comments

It's been an amazing six years.

The answer to all six of those questions is yes.

Despite the views of naysayers who have misjudged us and/or improperly lumped us in with other COG groups, we in CCOG listening to God above tradition.

We have had confirmed dreams by at least five people--and these are consistent with the teachings of the Bible and the old Radio and Worldwide Church of God.

We have had proclamation success: reaching people in at least 220 countries/territories via our websites, plus also reaching people in at least 220 countries/territories via our YouTube videos. We go through the open doors.

We have been the fastest growing COG in the 21st century--and we believe that our emphasis on love of the brethren and Matthew 24:14, 28:19-20 reflects God's blessing that way.

We have stood for biblical doctrinal integrity.

We have been listening to God.

CCOG has been faithfully carrying the Philadelphia mantle.

While none of that means that there cannot be any Laodiceans in the Continuing Church of God, it does help show where the Philadelphia mantle resides. It should be clear to those willing to look that CCOG best represents the Philadelphian portion of the Church of God at this time.

Can you see the hand of God in this?

If so, notice what the Apostle Peter wrote:

6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. (1 Peter 5:6-10)

Jesus warned that in the end, the bulk of Christians would NOT listen to Him enough, but trust themselves and be Laodicean (Revelation 3:14-18). Do not be like the Laodiceans.

Through God's Spirit we in the CCOG have been able to have unique fruits (like dreams and radio interviews) that no other actual COG group actually has had. We have also had tremendous growth in membership, while we have reached people around the world.

In these past six or so years, yes, I believe that we are demonstrating that we have been truly listening to God. We have been blessed by God's grace.

So, what is ahead?

We expect more brethren in more places, more literature in more languages, more doctrinal clarifications, more prophetic clarifications, and ultimately enough media attention for the coming short work (Romans 9:28; see also Preparing for the 'Short Work' and The Famine of the Word) that will lead to the fulfillment of Matthew 24:14.

We expect more animations.

We expect more growth.

We expect to lead the work in the fulfillment of Matthew 24:14.

We expect to be remain the leader in terms of doctrinal understandings, historical documentation, and prophetic understandings.

Although we have a lot more to do, we in the CCOG are leading The Final Phase of the Work that we believe Philadelphian Christians will be drawn to support.
