Pope Francis’ ‘Jubilee’ and claim about the Kingdom

A reader sent me a link to the following from Pope Francis from his Bull of Indiction related to his Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy:

At times we are called to gaze even more attentively on mercy so that we may become a more effective sign of the Father’s action in our lives. For this reason I have proclaimed an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy as a special time for the Church; a time when the witness of believers might grow stronger and more effective.

The Holy Year will open on 8 December 2015, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. This liturgical feast day recalls God’s action from the very beginning of the history of mankind. After the sin of Adam and Eve, God did not wish to leave humanity alone in the throes of evil. So he turned his gaze to Mary, holy and immaculate in love (cf. Eph 1:4), choosing her to be the Mother of man’s Redeemer.  http://www.iubilaeummisericordiae.va/content/gdm/en/bolla.html

Let me clearly state that the date that Mary was conceived on (which no one really knows, though Rome has settled on December 8th) is NOT of some prime importance.  Catholic saints such as Bernard of Clairvaux, Albertus Magnus and Thomas Aquinas opposed it, and it was not an original Christian festival according to The Catholic Encyclopedia (see Feast of the Immaculate Conception?).

Now, I posted about this Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy back in March (see Pope Francis announces an additional ‘holy year’: any ramifications?).  But later, Pope Francis made other comments.  Here are some more comments from his Bull of Indiction:

I have chosen the date of 8 December because of its rich meaning in the recent history of the Church. In fact, I will open the Holy Door on the fiftieth anniversary of the closing of the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council. The Church feels a great need to keep this event alive. With the Council, the Church entered a new phase of her history.

Pope Francis has an ecumenical agenda and that is part of why he declared his Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. Here are some more comments from his Bull of Indiction:

The Jubilee year will close with the liturgical Solemnity of Christ the King on 20 November 2016. On that day, as we seal the Holy Door, we shall be filled, above all, with a sense of gratitude and thanksgiving to the Most Holy Trinity for having granted us an extraordinary time of grace. We will entrust the life of the Church, all humanity, and the entire cosmos to the Lordship of Christ, asking him to pour out his mercy upon us like the morning dew, so that everyone may work together to build a brighter future. How much I desire that the year to come will be steeped in mercy, so that we can go out to every man and woman, bringing the goodness and tenderness of God! May the balm of mercy reach everyone, both believers and those far away, as a sign that the Kingdom of God is already present in our midst!

The above is the reason a reader sent me a link.  The reader wanted it pointed out that Pope Francis seems to think that the Kingdom of God is already here.

It is not.

The Kingdom of God will not be here until after it has been sufficiently proclaimed to the world as a witness (Matthew 24:14) and Jesus returns to establish the millennial kingdom.  However, since the Church of Rome now strongly teaches against the millennial kingdom, it tends to indicate that the Kingdom of God is here.  It is not, though some who are to be in it are.

BTW, the reason I choose to put up the year 2000 Jubilee logo is that although the same reader sent me a link to the logo for the ‘extraordinary jubilee’ is that I considered that it was too blasphemous.  Of course, I should add that I do not believe that Pope Francis can make anything or any year holy.

That being said, a ‘holy year’ tends to excite more Roman Catholics. There is also a chance that this coming extra ‘holy year’ could be a time when we may see more signs and lying wonders.
