Unprecedented floods worldwide: ‘Washing away the enemies of Israel before Messiah’

July 21, 2021

While massive flooding in Europe last week left more than 150 dead, flooding in numerous other places around the globe that were almost as deadly and equally destructive went largely overlooked.

Rabbi Yekutiel Fish, a noted … a Midrash pertaining to a verse in Psalms:

By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat, sat and wept, as we thought of Tzion. There on the poplars we hung up our lyres, for our captors asked us there for songs, our tormentors, for amusement, “Sing us one of the songs of Tzion.”How can we sing a song of Hashem on alien soil? Psalms 137:1-5

“According to the Midrash, the rivers that witnessed the cruelty of the haters-of-Zion will also exact punishment for that cruelty, and all the cruelty against the jews since the Babylonian exile.”

He noted that Germany was the hardest hit by the flooding in Europe. He also connected this to recent politics.

“It used to be that anti-Semitism was the primary expression of hatred of God,” Rabbi Fish said. “Since the prophecy of the Children of Jacob returning to Israel came about, The nations express their hatred of the God of Israel by calling for dividing the land, thereby canceling God’s covenant with the Jews, or by making bizarre claims about Jerusalem, saying that it belongs to Arabs that came from Arabia.”

“These are attempts to return the exile of the Jews which was so painful to the rivers who witnessed the tears of the Jews as they left,” Rabbi Fish said. “Now that we are back in Israel, the same rivers are going to punish the nations while at the same time, fighting against the efforts to resurrect the exile.”

“That is why all these floods came as they did, from rivers and not from oceans, all in the space of two weeks. It is happening now because we are nearly at the end and the people who hate Israel and the God of Israel will not be allowed to benefit from the wondrous times that are about to happen.” …

Rabbi Nir ben Artzi, …The rabbi cited Ecclesiastes as a description of current events:

All streams flow into the sea, Yet the sea is never full; To the place [from] which they flow The streams flow back again. Ecclesiastes 1:7

“The waters are doing God’s will in their own way,” Rabbi ben Artzi wrote. “They want Messiah. They are yearning to do their part in bringing the Nation of Israel to redemption, just as the Red Sea did in the Exodus. Those who help Israel are doing the same. Those who do not will be swept away in the waters just like the army of Pharoah.” …

Europe: worst natural disaster in history, 150 dead from flooding

This all comes after parts of Europe suffered a bout of deadly flooding last week that killed more than 150 people and injured at least 600 more. Parts of the region registered more than two months’ worth of rain in just 24 or 48 hours. The worst affected areas were in Germany and Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Internet and telephone communications are down, as well as power, gas, and drinking water for millions of residents. …

And even the United States was not exempt from extreme precipitation. Exceptionally heavy rains in the northeast led to flash flooding in parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey last week. Heavy rain also hit Florida, the Northern Plains to the Upper Midwest, and the New Mexico/southern Arizona region …

New Zealand: Red warning and 85 mph winds

In another part of the globe, the Marlborough region of New Zealand was hit by its worst flooding in history leading authorities to issue a Red Warning for Heavy Rain …

Oman: 4 dead

Oman on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula was also hit by heavy rainfall and flooding this week …

India: Mudslides kill 25, more to come

Heavy rains in the Mumbai region of India led to a series of mudslides on Sunday that killed at least 25 people. …

Japan, Russia, Iran, Turkey, Uzbekistan rained out …

Severe flooding also hit Lagos, Nigeria last week.

Some 30 cities in 10 provinces of East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Alborz, Kerman, Fars, Sistan and Baluchestan, Semnan, Mazandaran, Hormozgan and Kurdistan were affected by floods and inundations in the last four days.

China has been affected as well:

21 July 21, 2021

Days of rain have caused widespread damage and led to 200,000 evacuations.

Above ground, roads have been turned into rivers, with cars and debris swept along in fast moving currents. A number of pedestrians have had to be rescued.

More than a dozen cities in Henan province are affected. President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday that there had been “significant loss of life and damage to property”. …

In the provincial capital Zhengzhou, the equivalent of a year’s average rainfall has fallen in just three days. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-57861067

Yes, we have seen a lot of flooding and other extreme weather in many parts of the world.

Does this flooding mean that the Messiah is about to return?

Well, while the Bible does not teach that specifically, Jesus taught that the ‘beginning of sorrows,’ which is before He returns, would have ‘troubles’ (Mark 13:8) and we certainly are seeing a lot of troubles.

God controls the weather. Consider the following:

22 Catastrophes relentlessly pursue them;
they run this way and that, but there’s no place to hide —
23 Pummeled by the weather,
blown to kingdom come by the storm.’
(Job 27:22-23, THE MESSAGE)

Notice the following from the old WCG:

The Bible makes plain who is in control of the weather! “Fire and hail, snow and clouds; stormy wind, fulfilling His word” (Ps . 148:8 , RAV).

God intervenes in weather to work out his purposes among nations…

Plagues of disastrous weather are a warning to humanity. Weather for the most part operates according to natural laws. Damaging weather patterns sometimes develop. God simply may not choose to intervene to stop them because of nations’ various sins and idolatry.

The Bible reveals God also directly intervenes to cause weather plagues to warn certain nations. “I have smitten you with blasting and mildew . .. yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the Lord” (Amos 4:9). He, in his great purpose, may also allow Satan-the god of this world (II Cor. 4:4)-to have a role in producing calamitous weather, for man’s ultimate learning (see Job, chapter 1). (Schroeder D. CHAOTIC WEATHER Return of the dust bowl? Plain Truth. 1984, pp. 19-20)

The Bible repeatedly warns, especially in the Hebrew scriptures, that various sins will result in destructive weather (see Weather Blessings and Sorrows). Weather is not as random as most seem to want to believe.

Jesus said, consistent with the rides of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse of Revelation 6:1-8:

Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” 2 And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. 3 When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come and see.” 4 Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword. 5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” 7 When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” 8 So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.

Record-breaking rain and floods are consistent with “troubles” and “the beginning of sorrows.”

Over in the Western USA, there is not enough rain and the area is in extreme drought.

As far as weather goes, the Bible shows that God can use extreme weather to send a message. Sometimes God uses drought in some areas and too much rain in others:

7 “I also withheld rain from you,
When there were still three months to the harvest.
I made it rain on one city,
I withheld rain from another city.
One part was rained upon,
And where it did not rain the part withered.
8 So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water,
But they were not satisfied;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

9 “I blasted you with blight and mildew.
When your gardens increased,
Your vineyards,
Your fig trees,
And your olive trees,
The locust devoured them;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord. (Amos 4:7-9)

13 Therefore thus says the Lord God: “I will cause a stormy wind to break forth in My fury; and there shall be a flooding rain in My anger, and great hailstones in fury to consume it. 14 So I will break down the wall you have plastered with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be uncovered; it will fall, and you shall be consumed in the midst of it. Then you shall know that I am the Lord. (Ezekiel 13:13-14)

Extreme weather should be a wake-up call to repent.

The warnings from the Bible are going out, but many will ignore them. Will you?
