The Associated Press reported the following:

Ramadan kicks off in much of Middle East amid soaring prices

April 2, 2022

CAIRO (AP) — The Muslim holy month of Ramadan — when the faithful fast from dawn to dusk — began at sunrise Saturday in much of the Middle East, where Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has sent energy and food prices soaring.

The conflict cast a pall over Ramadan, when large gatherings over meals and family celebrations are a tradition. Many in the Southeast Asian nation of Indonesia planned to start observing Sunday and some Shiites in Lebanon, Iran and Iraq were also marking the start of Ramadan a day later.

Muslims follow a lunar calendar and a moon-sighting methodology can lead to different countries declaring the start of Ramadan a day or two apart.

Muslim-majority nations including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates had declared the month would begin Saturday morning.

A Saudi statement Friday was broadcast on the kingdom’s state-run Saudi TV and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and de facto leader of the United Arab Emirates, congratulated Muslims on Ramadan’s arrival.

Jordan, a predominantly Sunni country, also said the first day of Ramadan would be on Sunday, in a break from following Saudi Arabia. …

Many had hoped for a more cheerful Ramadan after the coronavirus pandemic cut off the world’s 2 billion Muslims from rituals the past two years.

With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, however, millions of people in the Middle East are now wondering where their next meals will come from. The skyrocketing prices are affecting people whose lives were already upended by conflict, displacement and poverty from Lebanon, Iraq and Syria to Sudan and Yemen.

Ukraine and Russia account for a third of global wheat and barley exports, which Middle East countries rely on to feed millions of people who subsist on subsidized bread and bargain noodles. They are also top exporters of other grains and sunflower seed oil used for cooking.

Egypt, the world’s largest wheat importer, has received most of its wheat from Russia and Ukraine in recent years. The country’s currency has also taken a dive in recent days, adding to other pressures driving up prices.  …

Soaring prices exacerbated the woes of Lebanese already facing a major economic crisis. Over the past two years, the currency collapsed and the country’s middle class was plunged into poverty. The country’s meltdown has also brought on severe shortages in electricity, fuel and medicine.

In the Gaza Strip, few people were shopping Friday in markets usually packed at this time of year. Merchants said Russia’s war on Ukraine has sent prices skyrocketing, alongside the usual challenges, putting a damper on the festive atmosphere that Ramadan usually creates.  https://apnews.com/article/covid-science-health-indonesia-asia-6a011b7482294081a546a15e40653c10

As far as Ramadan itself goes, here is information about it from the Encyclopedia Britannica:

Ramadan, Arabic Ramaḍān, in Islam, the ninth month of the Muslim calendar and the holy month of fasting. It begins and ends with the appearance of the crescent moon. Because the Muslim calendar year is shorter than the Gregorian calendar year, Ramadan begins 10–12 days earlier each year, allowing it to fall in every season throughout a 33-year cycle. Ramadan lasts from Saturday, April 2 to Sunday, May 1 in 2022. (Dates are dependent on the appearance of the crescent moon and may vary across countries.)

Islamic tradition states that it was during Ramadan, on the “Night of Power” (Laylat al-Qadr)—commemorated on one of the last 10 nights of Ramadan, usually the 27th night—that God revealed to the Prophet Muhammad the Qurʾān, Islam’s holy book, “as a guidance for the people.” For Muslims, Ramadan is a period of introspection, communal prayer (ṣalāt) in the mosque, and reading of the Qurʾān. God forgives the past sins of those who observe the holy month with fasting, prayer, and faithful intention. accessed 04/02/22 https://www.britannica.com/topic/Ramadan

During Ramadan, practicing Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and feast after dark.

Higher food prices are expecting to reduce some of the nightly celebrations.

Those of us in the Continuing Church of God do NOT accept that God inspired the Quran, the Book of Mormon, Malachi’s Message, etc.

But, of course, we do consider that the Bible is the inspired word of God (see also the free online book: Who Gave the World the Bible? The Canon: Why do we have the books we now do in the Bible? Is the Bible complete?).

Jesus warned of a time of wars, rumors of war, and famines (Matthew 24:4-8).

Although Muslims believe Jesus is the Messiah, they do not accept a lot of what is true about Him; this is documented in the free online book Proof Jesus is the Messiah).

The Book of Revelation has the following:

3 When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come and see.” 4 Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.

5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.”  (Revelation 6:3-6)

Notice that food inflation is associated with the opening of the third seal.

The Bible essentially shows that before the opening of the fifth seal, a leader of lands in the Middle East and Northern Africa, called the King of the South (cf. Daniel 11:25, 11:40-43) will arise. Crises like food inflation look to be a factor in him rising up and putting together some temporary Islamic unity across the Middle East and North Africa (see Could the Ukrainian food crisis help lead to the rise of the King of the South? and Is the Future King of the South Rising Up?).

The King of the South will arise during the time Jesus called the beginning of sorrows. Here are words of Jesus related to those sorrows:

5 …”Take heed that no one deceives you. 6 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many. 7 But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. 8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:5-8)

Many of the sorrows and troubles that Jesus spoke of parallel the ride of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse–who individual rides are preceded by the opening of four separate seals in the Book of Revelation.

False religion will be a factor. Wars and rumors of war will be a factor. Food prices will be factor. Disease will be a factor.

Food shortages because of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine may be one factor leading to the rise of the coming King of the South.

Food inflation is associated with the ride of the third horseman as Revelation 6:5-6 states. Food inflation started BEFORE Russia moved troops into Ukraine.

Of course, it is not just Muslims observing Ramadan affected by rising food prices, nations around the world are being affected by food price inflation.

Food inflation is affecting massive amounts of people around the world now.

Related to food inflation, we put together the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:

Food Inflation & the 3rd Horseman of the Apocalypse

The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, UN’s FAO, and others are reporting food price inflation as well as often selected shortages of some food items. Might it get worse? Did Jesus prophesy famines? One analyst stated, “WE haven’t seen anything yet” in regards to rising food prices. Should Christians prepare? What about helping others? Does the ride of the third horseman of the Apocalypse (Revelation 6:5-6) point to a coming time of severe food inflation. Is more food price inflation coming? Dr. Thiel addresses these issues and more in this video.

As menti9ned above, the King of the South rises up during the troubles of the beginning of sorrows. After what looks to be the start (Daniel 11:39) of the “Great Tribulation” (Matthew 24:21), this coming King of the South will fight against the ‘King of the North” (Daniel 11:40-43) called the “Beast” in Revelation 13. The King of the North will win, but this Beast will be destroyed when Jesus returns (Revelation 19:16-20). Jesus will then establish the millennial kingdom and reign for 1000 years (Revelation 20:6). Islam agrees with most of this (the time period not as defined), but believes that Islam will then reign supreme. Christians believe that Islam will essentially be gone by then. The true Christian view will prove to be correct.

Biblical prophecies are coming to pass.

Hopefully, you are paying proper attention and taking the proper spiritual steps.
