An Australian report raises concerns about the US military presence in Asia and the South Pacific:

China could overwhelm US military in Asia in hours, Australian report says

Hong Kong (CNN)The US military is no longer the primary force in Asia, and missiles from China’s rapidly improving military could overwhelm its bases in hours, according to a new report.

The study by the United States Study Center, at the University of Sydney, in Australia, warned that America’s defense strategy in the Indo-Pacific region “is in the throes of an unprecedented crisis” and could struggle to defend its allies against China.

That means Australia, Japan and other US partners need to build up and refocus their forces in the region, and consider increased cooperation with the US, to ensure their security, the study claimed.

The report highlights areas where China’s military is making huge strides in comparison to the US and its Asian allies and partners. Chief among those is in missiles. …

The report, for example, suggested that Australia increase its production of conventionally powered submarines, which are ideal for operations close to coastlines or in areas like the South China Sea.

It also encouraged “collective defense” through software that enables communications between allies.

Working together

Increased cooperation between the US and its allies is already happening.

The US and Australia recently completed their biennial Talisman Sabre exercises in northern Australia, which this year also included a bulked-up Japan Self-Defense Force contingent performing two amphibious landings.

Here are some statements from the report itself:

America no longer enjoys military primacy in the Indo-Pacific and its capacity to uphold a favourable balance of power is increasingly uncertain.

• The combined effect of ongoing wars in the Middle East, budget austerity, underinvestment in advanced military capabilities and the scale of America’s liberal order-building agenda has left the US armed forces ill-prepared for great power competition in the Indo-Pacific.
• America’s 2018 National Defense Strategy aims to address this crisis of strategic insolvency by tasking the Joint Force to prepare for one great power war, rather than multiple smaller conflicts, and urging the military to prioritise requirements for deterrence vis-à-vis China.
• Chinese counter-intervention systems have undermined America’s ability to project power into the Indo-Pacific, raising the risk that China could use limited force to achieve a fait accompli victory before America can respond; and challenging US security guarantees in the process.
• For America, denying this kind of aggression places a premium on advanced military assets, enhanced posture arrangements, new operational concepts and other costly changes.
• While the Pentagon is trying to focus on these challenges, an outdated superpower mindset in the foreign policy establishment is likely to limit Washington’s ability to scale back other global commitments or make the strategic trade-offs required to succeed in the Indo-Pacific.

Over the next decade, the US defence budget is unlikely to meet the needs of the National Defense Strategy owing to a combination of political, fiscal and internal pressures.

• The US defence budget has been subjected to nearly a decade of delayed and unpredictable funding. Repeated failures by Congress to pass regular and sustained budgets has hindered the Pentagon’s ability to effectively allocate resources and plan over the long term.
• Growing partisanship and ideological polarisation — within and between both major parties in Congress — will make consensus on federal spending priorities hard to achieve. Lawmakers are likely to continue reaching political compromises over America’s national defence at the expense of its strategic objectives.
• America faces growing deficits and rising levels of public debt; and political action to rectify these challenges has so far been sluggish. If current trends persist, a shrinking portion of the federal budget will be available for defence, constraining budget top lines into the future. …

A strategy of collective defence is fast becoming necessary as a way of offsetting shortfalls in America’s regional military power and holding the line against rising Chinese strength. To advance this approach, Australia should:

1. Pursue capability aggregation and collective deterrence with capable regional allies and partners, including the United States and Japan.
2. Reform US-Australia alliance coordination mechanisms to focus on strengthening regional deterrence objectives.
3. Rebalance Australian defence resources from the Middle East to the Indo-Pacific.
4. Establish new, and expand existing, high-end military exercises with allies and partners to develop and demonstrate new operational concepts for Indo-Pacific contingencies.
5. Acquire robust land-based strike and denial capabilities.
6. Improve regional posture, infrastructure and networked logistics, including in northern Australia.
7. Increase stockpiles and create sovereign capabilities in the storage and production of precision munitions, fuel and other materiel necessary for sustained high-end conflict.

Yes, the US has polarization and debt issues.

And yes, the US military has serious problems and will NOT be able to protect Australia and other parts of the world in the future.

And US arrogance (called “an outdated superpower mindset” in the above report) will lead to the US itself being taken over in the future.

As regular readers of this page are aware, since 2009 (in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect), I wrote that China may take over Australia, and possibly New Zealand. Since I wrote that, my belief in that outcome has increased.

Australia will NOT be able to do enough to protect itself against powers like China.

Years ago, it concluded that it had to rely on the US to stop a power like China. And it has taken steps, but they will not be enough.

On June 24, 2010, the day it was announced that she became Prime Minister of Australia, I warned that I felt that Julia Gillard would take steps to fulfill prophecies that also could get the Chinese interested in taking over Australia (see Australia Now Has a Female Prime Minister: Prophetic Ramifications?).

And that happened.

Are Chinese threats against Australia for real?

Should Australia and New Zealand consider that China has ambitions to control their territories?

Yes.

In the future, according to biblical prophecies, it is clear that Australia and New Zealand will lose their sovereignty. China remains the power that I think is most likely to dominate Australia, and it (or Japan) may end up dominating New Zealand.

If those in Australia and New Zealand think that the USA will be able to stop this forever, they are mistaken. The USA itself will also be taken over one day per Daniel 11:39 (see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).

Now, it is not that the US is not working on its military. It is.

Russia on Tuesday criticized the United States for testing a ground-based missile that until three weeks ago had been banned under an arms treaty between the two nations.

“The United States has obviously taken the course of escalating military tensions,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said, according to the state-run TASS news agency.

Ryabkov said Russia would not be drawn into a “costly arms race.”

His comments came a day after the Pentagon announced the test.

The missile, launched Sunday at San Nicolas Island, California, “accurately impacted its target after more than 500 kilometers of flight,” the Pentagon announced in a news release Monday.

“Data collected and lessons learned from this test will inform the Department of Defense’s development of future intermediate-range capabilities,” it added.

The United States previously was unable to pursue ground-based missiles with a range of 500 to 5,500 kilometers because of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, a decades-old arms control pact with Russia.

Washington withdrew from that pact on Aug. 2, citing years of Russian violations. …

A problem that the US has is that it has tried to function as ‘the world’s policeman’ and the world is a big place.

The US will NOT be ready for what will hit it.

The Bible is clear that the power with the strongest military–which in the 21st century is still the US–will be conquered by a power from Europe (Daniel 11:39)–and that this will essentially shock the world (cf. Revelation 13:1-4).

The breaking of the INF treaty has gotten the Europeans very upset with the US, because if Russia were to use its intermediate-range missiles, Europe is afraid it could suffer badly.

Many in Europe consider that the US has become a rogue state and that Europe must militarize to be able to function independent of the US (see also yesterday’s post Germany wants to support European, not US naval force in Persian Gulf. ‘Germany needs to grow up. The post-war era is over.’ ).

New missiles from the US will not be enough to stop its destruction nor protect Australia (or New Zealand) from what is coming.
