The United States keeps pushing for a coalition of navies to patrol the Persian Gulf because of concerns about Iran.

Germany has interest in keeping the Persian Gulf open, but wants to support a European, not USA-led, effort:

Germany’s Global Policy Aspiration

BERLIN/TEHRAN (Own report) – German military experts have presented their first concrete plans for an EU naval operation in the Persian Gulf. According to the draft of two well connected government advisors and a Bundeswehr professor, warships should be cruising at the two entrances to the Strait of Hormuz. Supplementary warships should escort oil tankers through the strait with armed troops on board to ward off possible attacks – depending on the disposition to escalate. This would necessitate “between 10 and 30 percent of the EU’s naval capacities,” and Berlin should be in command of the deployment to demonstrate its aspiration to shape global policy. Whereas sectors of the SPD and the opposition reject the operation, the chancellor and foreign ministry are promoting the plan also within the EU. Previously, Foreign Minster Heiko Maas had rejected the US demand for Germany to deploy warships in a US-led naval mission in the Middle East. Berlin is positioning itself to be an independent power in global politics. …

“No Support for US Policy”

Already in late July, in response to the Trump administration’s demand, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas had unambiguously declared, “the German government will not participate in the naval mission being suggested and planned by the USA.”[3] Berlin considers Washington’s strategy of exerting “maximum pressure” on Iran to be “wrong.” Several leading German foreign policy experts have already expressed similar views. “If Germany or even the EU decides to participate in a US-led military mission, we would, belatedly, be supporting and justifying US policy in the region,” declared, for example, former German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel (SPD). “We should not do this, but rather self-confidently maintain our independent stance.”[4] The “independent stance” refers particularly to safeguarding the nuclear deal with Iran, which the Trump administration had revoked. Gabriel recently took office as Chairman of the Atlantik-Brücke (Atlantic Bridge), an influential network promoting transatlantic policy.

Berlin’s “European” Intervention

Rather than participate in a US operation, the German government continues to push for an EU naval deployment in the Persian Gulf. “We want a European mission,” declared Foreign Minister Heiko Maas about a week ago, however it will “certainly take time … to convince the EU.”[5] Prior to this declaration, Norbert Röttgen (CDU), Chair of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, was also calling for launching a “European” military intervention at the Strait of Hormuz.[6] Germany should initiate such an operation “in cooperation with the European partners,” suggests former Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel, adding that this would send “a strong signal regarding Europe’s effectiveness.”[7] …

Under German Command

As outlined by the authors, an EU military operation in the Strait of Hormuz would, in practice, have to be “closely” coordinated with the US operation. This, of course, does not mean “being part of the US initiative” [10] – not even if there is a certain level of cooperation with the US operation. However, “which rules apply to this cooperation” must be determined “at the outset,” and “that the cooperation will be terminated if there is a military escalation by the USA.” Germany would be well-advised, the authors write, to participate in the planning of the EU’s military mission in the Persian Gulf, to demonstrate its aspiration to a global policymaking role and to safeguard its interests. Therefore, Berlin should eventually even be “in command” of the operation. This would be the first military mission, where the Federal Republic of Germany would be engaged alongside a US intervention, without sharing the same objective: officially cooperating, while practically in open rivalry to Washington. 08/13/19 https://www.german-foreign-policy.com/en/news/detail/8013/

So, Germany wants to be involved in the Persian Gulf, but basically run a European naval program independent of the USA as Germany and the EU have different objectives than the USA.

Dr Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman, who sits as a centre-right Free Democratic Party member, said that Berlin needs to stop living in the past.

She said: “Germany needs to grow up.

“The post-war era is over.” … Dr Zimmermann … says that Germany needs to take even more individual responsibility as it cannot rely on Trump.

Germany is deciding it needs to take more militaristic actions, independent of the USA. Part of that is because of policies and statements by US President Donald Trump. But this has been brewing in Germany before Donald Trump was elected.

Since Germany’s defeat in WWII, Church of God ministers have written that Germany would dominate a coming European military.

It will be a “The UNITED STATES OF EUROPE,” but that probably will never become its official name. … Once Europe is economically revived, and powerfully armed, a new Hitler will appear upon the scene … (Armstrong HW. Now It Can Be Told…The Plain Truth, December 1948, pp. 5-6).

“The king of the north” — all Bible scholars know that the ‘king of the north’ originally meant Syria in Old Testament times; but when Rome conquered Syria, the ‘king of the north’ became Rome; and when Rome fell, the German Nation and its allies wok over Rome and now have become the ‘king of the north’ (verses 36-39 — the German Nation, now working through the Nazi Underground, “shall…” notice it! “… shall enter into the countries …). German leaders once again — just as in centuries past — openly are attempting to unite all Europe in a United States of Europe — and, through Europe, to reshape the world in order to fasten German leadership and culture on all nations and peoples. This is because of various biblical prophecies (e.g. Isaiah 10:5-12; Daniel 11:39). As far as a “United States of Europe” goes, former German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen, called for that before (though she backed off of that statement later).

And she was the person selected to be the next EU Commission President. She is scheduled to assume that office on November 1, 2019.

Ursula von der Leyen and the coming United States of Europe

In the Summer of 2019, German Defense Minister Urusla von der Leyen was elected through a secret ballot by Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to be the European Union Commission President effective November 1, 2019. She has gone on record in favor of a strong European army independent of the USA as well as for calling for a more integrated Europe. Were these some of the reasons she was selected? Does she believe that Donald Trump and Brexit will help lead to an integrated and armed Europe? Like various other European leaders in the 21st century, Ursula von der Leyen has called for a ‘United States of Europe.’ Since 1948 the old Radio Church of God warned a ‘United States of Europe’ would be formed (though probably without that name). Is that going to happen? What does the Bible teach? Will Europe get its own ‘great army’? Will Europe reorganize under a dictator? Are Ursula von der Leyen’s actions likely to help lead to the rise of the European Beast? Dr. Thiel addresses these issues and more.

Europe has been working on its own multi-national military in a program called PESCO (which stands for Permanent Structured Cooperation). Ursula von der Leyen has been a strong supporter of PESCO.

PESCO and a Great European Army

In November 2018, French President Macron called for a “true European army” because of China, Russia, and the USA. Some others in Europe have echoed that sentiment. On November 9, 2018, US President Donald Trump called that an insult, but the next day said that the USA wanted “a very strong Europe.” Emmanuel Macron referred to Donald Trump as “my friend” and indicated a desire to strengthen Europe’s military spending. In December 2017, 25 European nations agreed to be part of a military alliance called Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO). Europe also has NATO and IEI. Will Europe end up with “a great army”? Has Donald Trump’s announcement to withdraw from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty gotten some to say that Europe must rebel against the USA? Is the idea of a United States of Europe and a European army a “paranoid fantasy” or a biblical reality? Will the USA regret Europe becoming a stronger military power? Will the USA be betrayed by “friends” such as its continental European allies? Does the Bible teach any or all of this? As far as what is going on with Germany consider that the Bible teaches that Europe will have a great army:

25 “He shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South with a great army. (Daniel 11:25)

The “He” is identified as the final prophesied European King of the North in Daniel 11:40 (watch also Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?)–and looks to be one called The Great Monarch in Catholic Prophecies.

Interestingly, there have been Catholic writings that have predicted that Europe would have a great army along with a Germanic leader:

St. Francis of Paola (Born in Italy, 15th century). “By the grace of the Almighty, the Great Monarch will annihilate heretics and unbelievers. He will have a great army, and angels will fight at his side. He will be like the sun among the stars. His influence will spread over the whole earth. All in all, there will be on earth twelve Kings, one Emperor, one Pope and a few Princes. They will all lead holy lives.” (Dupont, p.38)

Bernhardt Rembordt (18th century). “Cologne will be the site of a terrible battle…The German Empire will choose a simple man as the Emperor, who will rule for a short time. His successor will be the man for whom the world has longed. He will be called a “Roman Emperor,” and he will give peace to the world. A good and happy era will follow. God will be praised on earth, and war will be no more.” (Dupont, pp.34-35)

Saint Cataldus of Tarentino (c. 500): “The Great Monarch will be in war till he is forty years of age. … he will assemble great armies and expel tyrants from his empire. He will conquer England and other island empires” (Connor, Edward. Prophecy for Today. Imprimatur + A.J. Willinger, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno; Reprint: Tan Books and Publishers, Rockford (IL), 1984, p.30; also Culleton , p.118-119).

Note: The nation was NOT called England in A.D. 500, but this is believed to be a reference to the Anglo-Saxon-Celtic peoples that a European leader is expected to conquer.

But the idea of a Germanic leader over great European armies is consistent with Bible prophecy.

Germany has the will, the structure, and even weapons, plus more are being developed.

Europe is changing and developing its military.

The Bible shows that Europe will have a military, so powerful, that it is prophesied to defeat the USA (Daniel 11:39), its British-descended allies (cf. Daniel 8:24-25), as well as a coming confederation in North Africa and the Middle East (Daniel 11:40-43).
