India Census Reflects a Grim Reality for Girls

India’s early numbers for census 2011 released Thursday put the attention back on the India’s increasing population numbers and put a black mark on India’s growth story—the continued preference for sons over daughters…

Among children up to the age of six, the number of girls to 1,000 boys shrank to 914 girls to every 1000 boys, a drop from 927 in 2001. The census figure also records this statistic as the lowest since the country’s independence in 1947…

Female feticide, pre-sex selection techniques, attitudes towards the girl child and traditional social practices such as the heavy gifts demanded from the bride’s family by the groom’s family at the time of a wedding are some of reasons driving the increasingly skewed sex ratio. While the government has been carrying long standing campaigns against abortion and sex selection, the ever diminishing numbers of girls show that little has changed. Experts worry about the repercussions on gender relations and violence when these children, with their skewed ratios, enter adolescence.  http://blogs.wsj.com/indiarealtime/2011/03/31/india-census-reflects-a-grim-reality-for-girls/

Why is this of prophetic interest?

Because the Bible tells of a time when the kings of the east will send a 200 million man army into the Middle East:

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. (Revelation 16:12)

13 Then the sixth angel sounded: And I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14 saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” 15 So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind. 16 Now the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them. 17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision: those who sat on them had breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; and the heads of the horses were like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone. 18 By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed–by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which came out of their mouths (Revelation 9:13-18).

We in the Living Church of God have long felt that China and India would supply significant amounts of the troops:

China and India: More Military Cooperation...Joint military exercises between these two nations are important, given a couple of different factors. First, the combined population of these nations is about 2.5 billion—nearly 40 percent of the entire population of the earth. Second, prophetically, God tells of a time, just prior to the return of Christ, when a 200 million-man army will descend on Jerusalem from the east, and destroy an entire third of mankind (Daniel 11:44-45; Revelation 9:13-21). As we consider a joint military force of India and China, it would be very easy for these two nations to field a joint army of 200 million men. The final configuration of the armies from the east is likely yet to be established, but it is also likely that we are seeing the foundations of such a confederation being laid right now (World Ahead Weekly Update, LCG. January 2, 2008).

So what does this have to do with having substantially more male than female births?

Well, as most everyone is aware, China has had a one child policy for quite some time.  The result of this policy has been to produce substantially more male than female births.  India’s cultural preferences are also doing the same thing (that not quite to the same level).  The fact that both nations tend to accept abortion is sad–but of course, so do many western nations.

When young males realize that there are not, and will not be, enough females in their lands, they will be even more willing to fight and go off to war elsewhere.  The male birthing dominance in India and China will essentially make the willingness of many males to participate in a coming 200,000,000 man army greater.  So, even birth statistics support the fulfillment, in a relatively few years, of another aspect of Bible prophecy.

Why Are Prices Going Up?

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

“I will break the pride of your power” (Leviticus 26:19)

COGwriter

Why are prices going up?:

First came higher food prices, thanks to heat in Russia and floods in China and Australia. Then came soaring gas prices as a result of the crisis in Libya. Now, imported consumer goods — including almost everything from Brazilian orange juice to imported Toyota automobiles — are going to be joining the upward price trend.

The culprit is the U.S. dollar, which has fallen 5% in the last year.

See full article from DailyFinance: http://srph.it/fkOexK

Inflation happens when there are to much currency going after the same (or less) amount of goods.

The USA, through its federal economic stimulus plans and the Federal Reserve’s “quantitative easing”, schemes has increased the amount of dollars.  And since many of the world’s currencies are directly linked to the US dollar (and nearly all are indirectly linked to it), this results in higher prices–including for many other nations.

The cost of imported goods into the USA is rising mainly because the USA is producing less goods, but creating more money (actually, the biggest export from the USA the past few years probably has been its debt).   Its foreign creditors are starting to pay attention to the fact dollar creation, instead of increased production of goods, seems to be a long term strategy of many US governmental officials.

The United States and its Anglo-allies that have loaded pledges of debt in these end times that they really do not expect to pay back. Insolvency will cause bigger problems than even the experts who see it coming normally understand. But many foreigner creditors will (cf. Habakkuk 2:7).

Prophecy moves forward–significant personal repentance is probably the only way out (as national repentance for the USA seems highly unlikely).  In the mean time, it appears that prices will rise, and ultimately, probably a lot.  Hyper-inflation (like other certain nations have experienced) is likely to hit the USA in not too many years.

Syria’s President Blames Conspiracy

According to Syria’s President Assad, the problems in his nation are due to a conspiracy:

30 March 2011President Bashar al-Assad has told parliament Syria will defeat those behind a “plot” against his country.

It was Mr Assad’s first speech since anti-government demonstrations erupted two weeks ago.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12909991

By MICHAEL SLACKMAN Published: March 30, 2011

CAIRO — In his first address to the nation after bloody protests and calls for reform, President Basher al-Assad blamed a broad conspiracy from beyond his borders on Wednesday for Syria’s turmoil and offered no concessions to ease his authoritarian regime’s grip on public life…

“It is not a secret now that Syria is being subject to a conspiracy,” he said. “The timing and shape depends on what is happening in other Arab countries. “  http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/31/world/middleeast/31syria.html?src=twrhp

The above statements are interesting for many reasons.

Those of us in the Living Church of God believe that Bible prophecy tells of a time when the Arab nations will unite under a leader shown as the final King of the South in the Book of Daniel (e.g. Daniel 11:40).  It is possible that a group like the Muslim Brotherhood would be behind trying to coordinate such a “plot”/confederation as having a pan-Arabic caliph is one of that group’s stated goals.

Another reason that the Syrian president’s statements were interesting is that Syria maintains a close relationship with Iran.  And only last month, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed that the Imam Mahdi was behind the current turmoil in the world (for details, see Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: World Order About to Collapse, Mahdi Behind it).  Iran expects to provoke the rising up of this somewhat mythical figure (the Shi’ite version of this suggests that the Imam Mahdi has been somehow alive for over 1000 years and is waiting for Middle East turmoil to come and rule the Islamic world).

So, it somewhat sounds like Syria’s Assad is not as positive about the unrest in the Arab world that Iran’s President has embraced and encouraged.

The President of Iran has long believed that it is his special calling to create enough chaos in order to stimulate the arrival of an Islamic leader that he and others refer to as the Imam Mahdi (see also Iran’s Ahmadinejad to Conquer Jerusalem?). This leader is supposed to unite Islam and root out problems within its religion (see also Iran’s Ahmadinejad Does Not Want Peace).

For various reasons, the Imam Mahdi that Iran wants sounds a lot like the final King of the South that the Bible foretells (Daniel 11:40-43). While the King of the South will not fulfill everything related to Iran’s Mahdi predictions, this may not matter too much to the Arabs.

Iran remains likely to attack Israel and/or provoke Israel to attack it, and Syria may support Iran.  And while Iran hopes to win such an encounter in order to get the Muslim world behind it, it is much more likely that Israel would hit back hard. So hard, in fact, that the Arab world will be even more upset with Israel than it is now. Enough so that the Arab world will be more likely to accept a pan-Islamic leader, that they will refer to as a type of Caliph, that happens to be the same one that the Bible refers to as the final King of the South (though a caliph that is not the final King of the South could also be in place for a while). I suspect that if Iran has an unsuccessful attack on Jerusalem that a Caliph-type leader will rise up from elsewhere in the Middle East and that many in Iran will support him anyway (even if all the Mahdi predictions do not come to pass).

So, whether or not there is an organized conspiracy in the Arab world, the reality is that many of the Islamic nations in North Africa and the Middle East will ultimately turn over their sovereignty to the biblically expected king of the South.  And yes, Syria will also be affected (and perhaps very badly, cf. Isaiah 17:1).

Perhaps I should mention that at least two sources that I have found state that the Mahdi will end up being based in Damascus (the capital of Syria):

“Having done this his next step would be to proceed on to Damascus, where the bulk of the Nasara (Christian) forces along with the tribe of Kalb would be deployed, as was previously mentioned. In Damascus, the Imam will set up his headquarters. From here, he will conduct military operations against the enemies of Islam and defeats them (such as the ones in Jerusalem), and from here, he will rule.”

“The Mehdi will be very just and his capital will be Damascus. The Mehdi is NOT a prophet but he is the final Rightly Guided Khalifah. The Mehdi will lead Muslims to a great victory against the Sufyaani and the Romans. This great war or Armageddon…”

If the final King of the South ends up being based in Damascus, this may be part of the reason that it gets destroyed (Isaiah 17:1).  On the other hand, it is also possible that as an act of desperation, Syria will support Iran in a battle against Israel that probably will not turn out well for Syria–and this would be sooner than what Daniel 11:40-43 is foretelling.

What is happening in Syria seems to aligning with the idea of a pan-Arabic confederation that all should watch for.

Frank McCrady, a former UCG pastor now in the Church of God, a Worldwide Association (COGWA), was injured and hospitalized, apparently on Tuesday, according to some information that I received from a source that has always been reliable:

Many of us know Frank McCrady so I am posting this here: Mr. Frank McCrady (COGWA: East Texas) was in a car accident on his way to Longview today around 4 PM. He got out to check on the people in the other vehicle and became weak. After finding out that the other person involved was fine, he suffered a stroke and slumped to the ground. He was then taken to Longview Regional Hospital. No further diagnosis has been made. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Korean UN Chief Wants Jerusalem Divided

Jerusalem

COGwriter

UN Chief Ban Ki-moon is calling for the division of Jerusalem:

Published: 03.30.11, 00:02 / Israel News
WASHINGTON – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon slammed Israel’s policy and called for the division of Jerusalem on Tuesday. In a message delivered by his assistant at a UN regional meeting in Uruguay, Ban said: “The target date for completing the Palestinian Authority’s two-year State-building program is fast-approaching.”   http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4049602,00.html

Ban Ki-moon is from South Korea and has taken a position consistent with one some in the EU have also taken.

This  position on Jerusalem also seems to be consistent with the following biblical prophecy:

2 For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem;
The city shall be taken,
The houses rifled,
And the women ravished.
Half of the city shall go into captivity,
But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. (Zechariah 14:2, NKJV)

If half the city is Jewish and the other half not, then there would be a reason for only one half the city to go into captivity.

World events continue to align with Bible prophecy.  A peace deal will come (Daniel 9:27) and it may involve the enforced dividing of Jerusalem.

To learn more about what will happen to the descendants of Israel, please check out the first two articles (there is also information on Korea in the articles that follow them):

CT: Why Are There Atheists?

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

COGwriter

At the Christianity Today website, an author (Shawn Graves) asks and provides some answers to the question, Why are there still atheists?

A lot of ink has been spilled over whether God exists. Within this context, some theists like to point out that “God has made it plain” that he exists, that “God’s invisible qualities … have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Rom. 1:19-20). They urge us to remember that the “heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Ps. 19:1). In a recent Christianity Today article, Jim Spiegel cites these passages and writes: “This naturally prompts the question: If the evidence for God is so abundant, then why are there atheists?”

Spiegel asserts that for many atheists, it’s not “cool, rational inquiry” that led to their atheism. Rather, in many cases it’s complex moral and psychological factors that produce atheism. For example, Spiegel points to research suggesting that some prominent atheists had broken, defective relationships with their fathers. Others live in perpetual disobedience and rebellion—resisting lifestyle changes required upon adopting theism. And still others confess that they just don’t want there to be a God. Spiegel contends that immorality has cognitive consequences—it impedes one’s ability to recognize that theism is true.

No doubt he’s right. Surely some people accept atheism due in part to such powerful motivational factors.  http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2011/marchweb-only/whytherearestillatheists.html

Now, actually one of the reasons that there are evolutionary atheists is, believe it or not, in the 19th century various male “intellectual” were looking for excuses to not have to abide by biblical standards of sexual morality.  And back then, some of them even admitted that is why they embraced the concept that life randomly evolved without a creator God.

I would also add hypocrisy to the list. The fact that evangelicals, for example, are more likely to be involved with fornication than the general public, despite biblical admonitions against it, turns people off.

War is another factor.  Many non-believers point to religions such as Islam, Catholicism, and Protestantism as major causes of war, which turns many people off to the idea that there is a truly loving God.  But of course, all scholars realize that early Christians would not participate in carnal warfare.  And in my opinion, this is still true of faithful Christians today (for details, please check out Military Service and the Churches of God: Do Real Christians Participate in Carnal Warfare?).

There are also scholars, for example, like Bart Ehrman, who started out as Protestant but when they learned more about church history, realized that Protestantism simply did not fit with church history or much of the Bible (see also Hope of Salvation: How the Living Church of God differ from most Protestants).  And while he may be more of an agnostic than an atheist, the fact that most of what is considered by the world to be Christianity, is not Christianity, and this turns many off of religion (though it does not necessarily make them atheists).

But I would like to add that it is illogical to be an atheist.  While there may be many reasons that people may doubt the existence of a personal God, such as the one that the Bible teaches about, the reality is that any that conclude that there cannot be a creator/god are being foolish:

1 The fool has said in his heart,”There is no God.” (Psalms 14:1, NKJV)

One of the reasons that it is foolish to conclude that there is no God is because humans should realize that we are finite beings.  No human has been to ever place in the universe, no human has lived forever, no human has been to every possible dimension that may exist in the universe.  Since no human has done that, for any human to conclude that there cannot be a god or any type is illogical.  Why?  Because no human has enough possible proof that God cannot exist.  Doing so with limited “evidence” is foolish.

Furthermore, if the laws of bioscience are accepted as valid, one can easily prove that something outside of those laws (God) was necessary for life to begin and to continue.  Amino acids simply did not randomly line up, become alive, realize that it had to eat, realize that it had to have a means to eat, immediately  have a way to utilize food (like a properly developed digestive system), realize it had to reproduce for survival of life, and have the means to do so.  It is illogical to conclude otherwise.

But, despite the fact that some claim to be atheists, God’s existence is logical.

Iran’s Ahmadinejad to Conquer Jerusalem?

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

COGwriter

According to an Iranian video, Iran’s President Ahmadinejad is going to capture Jerusalem to help bring in the Imam Mahdi:

Iranian Video Says Mahdi is ‘Near’
CBN News – March 28, 2011…

CBN News has obtained a never-before-seen video produced by the Iranian regime that says all the signs are moving into place…

While the revolutionary movements gripping the Middle East have created uncertainty throughout the region, the video shows that the Iranian regime believes the chaos is divine proof that their ultimate victory is at hand…

It’s called The Coming is Near and it describes current events in the Middle East as a prelude to the arrival of the mythical tweflth Imam or Mahdi — the messiah figure who Islamic scriptures say will lead the armies of Islam to victory over all non-Muslims in the last days…

“Just a few weeks ago, Ahmadenijad’s office screened this movie with much excitement for the clerics,” Kahlili told CBN News. “The target audience is Muslims in the Middle East and around the world.”

To watch the video in its entirety, visit Kahlili’s website...

Other ‘Prophetic’ Signs

The ongoing upheavals in other Middle Eastern countries like Yemen and Egypt–including the rise of the Muslim Brotherood — are also analyzed as prophetic signs that the Mahdi is near — so is the current poor health of the king of Saudi Arabia, an Iranian rival…

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khameini, and Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Iran’s terrorist proxy Hezbollah, are hailed as pivotal end times players, whose rise was predicted in Islamic scriptures.

The same goes for Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadenijad, who the video says will conquer Jerusalem prior to the Mahdi’s coming. http://m.cbn.com/cbnnews/world/2011/March/Iranian-Regime-Video-Says-Mahdi-is-Near-/

The video starts off natural images and with upbeat demonstrators.  I found it interesting that the woman who is one of the two primary narrators is dressed like a Catholic nun.  Some of the images shown seem to suggest death the USA (or at least the US dollar).  It quotes someone as saying this Imam Mahdi leader arrives after a time of great earthquakes and sedition.  It show photos of American, Jewish, and European leaders that it does not approve of.  It says that, according to the Hadith, Iran is to be among the “preparers” for the arrival of the Imam.  It blames the USA and its allies for causing Islamic fear-mongering since 9/11.  The video indicates that Islamic writings have warned that westerners would invade the Middle East first and its suggests that Iraq and other western military interventions are proof that the Imam Mahdi is about to appear.  It tells that a time of Arab cooperation is prophesied, while also claiming that annihilation of the “Zionist regime” needs to happen prior to the arrival of the Mahdi.

And the video goes further.  It says that the Hadith tells of a leader named Abdullah, states that the ill King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia is the first Abdullah leader in a hundred years, and that cites something that states when Abdullah dies the reappearance is guaranteed.  It claims that Iran is the most powerful force in the Middle East.  It claims that their prophecies state that a Seyed Khorasani will turn Jerusalem over to the Imam Mahdi. It discusses prophesies that Islamic antichrists must rise up and hints that the Free Masons, with their influence on American, European, Israeli, and apparently certain Arabic, leaders, has fulfilled this.  Although the video shows Hosni Mubarak along with a prophecy that the leader of Egypt must die prior to the arrival of the Imam Mahdi, Hosni Mubabarek is no longer the leader of Egypt and did not die.

It also essentially tries to explain who is Seyed Khorasani (the current top leader of Iran).  It also says that 72 months prior to the arrival of the Imam Mahdi that Seyed Khorasani will appoint Shoeib to assist.  It then asks if “Doctor” Ahmadinejad could be the Shoeib.  It shows Ahmadinejad making various speeches and discusses him taking over Jerusalem in the future–and prior to the arrival of the Imam Mahdi.  It basically ends with stating that the Imam Mahdi will rise up soon and that all should praise God with Jihad.

Various prophecies of the Mahdi state that the Mahdi would return in an even numbered year, like the end 2012 (the Islamic calendar runs differently than the Roman calendar). Iran may claim that Ahmadinejad received some other type of “appointment” that happened in 2006/2007 that counts, as opposed to being appointed president in 2005. And that would be consistent with a late 2012 (or sometime in 2013) Mahdi arrival (though according to my understanding of Iranian prophetic understanding, taking over Jerusalem anytime between now and late 2013 would probably fit). The Mahdi is supposed to be recognized in an even numbered year, and since Ahmadinejad’s term ends in 2013 (Islamic year 1434), and he indicated he wanted to cause the Mahdi to arrive before he leaves office, he may cause enough chaos to try to cause this to happen soon (the current Islamic year 1432 ends November 26, 2011, so the current year until then is another time that the Mahdi could be expected based on Islamic prophecy).

Well, since I believe that the final King of the South is currently alive, is Islamic, may be associated with one or more transnational Islamic groups, and I have repeatedly warned that Iran’s president may provoke a war with Israel in order to provoke the rising up of an Islamic leader, the above story is consistent with that.   But I do not believe that it is possible for Iran to take over Jerusalem prior to the arrival of the final King of the South, hence there will be various aspects of their predictions that will not come to pass quite like they expect.

The President of Iran has long believed that it is his special calling to create enough chaos in order to stimulate the arrival of an Islamic leader that he and others refer to as the Imam Mahdi.

While the King of the South will not fulfill everything related to Iran’s Mahdi predictions, this may not matter too much to the Arabs, who unlike the Shi’ite Iranians, are mainly Sunni Muslim.  This Imam/Mahdi/Caliph may be part of a deal that will affect the USA and its Anglo-allies, as well as the nation of Israel (Psalm 83).  And this will not be good.

The reality, as I long warned about, is that Iran is likely to attack Israel and/or provoke Israel to attack it.  And while Iran hopes to win such an encounter in order to get the Muslim world behind it, it is much more likely that Israel would hit back hard.  So hard, in fact, that the Arab world will be even more upset with Israel than it is now.  Enough so that the Arab world will be more likely to accept a pan-Islamic leader, that they will refer to as a type of Caliph, that happens to be the same one that the Bible refers to as the final King of the South.  I suspect that if Iran has an unsuccessful attack on Jerusalem that a Caliph-type leader will rise up from elsewhere in the Middle East and that many in Iran will support him anyway (even if all the Mahdi predictions do not come to pass).

Iran’s provocative video will not change the truth about Bible prophecy, but may be a very public signal that Iran intends to soon attack Israel as it seems to be trying to lay out from various Islamic prophecies why it has to do so soon.

The protesters claim the state aims for tighter control over its citizens and many believe that the design of the cards includes the number described in the Book of Revelation. http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5htXCVv1K7oPIJLiZkOpAIi91THhg?docId=6380922

Greek Christians battle over new ID cards
VOR – March 28, 2011

Thousands of Orthodox citizens of Greece hit the streets of Athens on Sunday to protest against the introduction of new identity cards.

They perceive the plastic cards with microchip as the fulfilling prophecy of the Apocalypse. The trouble revolves around the proposal to strip all references to religion from new National ID card…

Presently, Greece uses the traditional paper identity certificates.  http://english.ruvr.ru/2011/03/28/48057329.html

666

The Bible teaches the following:

18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666 (Revelation 13:18).

The first writing that have been found that suggests that a Roman is 666 was by Irenaeus, who claimed to have listened to Polycarp when he (Irenaeus) was a young man. Irenaeus wrote:

Then also Lateinos (LATEINOS) has the number six hundred and sixty-six; and it is a very probable [solution], this being the name of the last kingdom [of the four seen by Daniel] (Irenaeus. Adversus haereses, Book V, Chapter 30, Verse 3. Excerpted from Ante-Nicene Fathers, Volume 1. Edited by Alexander Roberts & James Donaldson. American Edition, 1885. Online Edition Copyright © 2004 by K. Knight).

The late LCG evangelist John Ogwyn wrote this about its meaning and origins:

Scarcely any prophetic subject has elicited more conjecture and speculation than the “mark of the Beast.” In addition to a “mark,” Revelation 13 also mentions an “image” of the Beast as well as the mysterious “number of his name”—666…

Since the Roman Empire is the Beast described by John in Revelation 13 and Revelation 17, the “mark” is a brand or mark of the Roman Empire. The “image” of the Beast must be something modeled or patterned after the Roman Empire.

Before going further, notice that Revelation 13 mentions a second “beast” with an earthly, not heavenly, origin (v. 11). It outwardly masquerades as Christian, seeking to be identified with Christ, the Lamb of God (cf. John 1:29) but receives its power from the devil, that old dragon (Revelation 12:9). In prophecy, horns are used to represent rulership or authority, and this creature is pictured with two horns. Revelation 13:12 reveals that this second beast insists that all give their allegiance and loyalty to the Holy Roman Empire, the beast whose deadly wound was healed (v. 12). This second beast is described as performing great miracles, which will deceive humanity (vv. 13–14). In Matthew 24:24, Christ prophesied of “false Christs” who will deceive all but the very elect…

The earliest proposed solution to the meaning of 666 is a tradition attributed to Polycarp, the disciple of the same Apostle John who wrote Revelation. This tradition is preserved in the second century writings of Irenaeus. The number 666 is “…contained in the Greek letters of Lateinos (L=30; A=1; T=300; E,=5; I=10; N=50; O=70; S=200)” (Commentary on the Whole Bible, Jamieson, Fausset and Brown). Lateinos is a Greek term referring to the Romans. Interestingly, the Greek expression meaning “the Latin kingdom” (h Latine Basileia) also has a numeric value of 666. Greek writers commonly referred to the Roman Empire in this way. The book of Revelation was originally written in Greek, as it was written to Greek-speaking churches in ancient Asia Minor…

The founder of ancient Rome was Romulus, from whose name Rome and Roman are derived. The Latin name Romvlvs is written in Hebrew as Romiith. In the Hebrew language this also adds up to 666 (resh=200, vau=6, mem=40, yod=10, yod=10, tau=400). Thus, in both Greek and Hebrew, the two languages of the Bible, the number 666 is stamped upon the kingdom that derived from Rome (Ogwyn J. The Beast of Revelation: Myth, Metaphor or Soon-Coming Reality?).

Hence, LCG teaches that 666 represents a civil Roman leader/kingdom (scripturally referred to as “the beast”) who will maintain a religious alliance and that is that 666 represents those that follow forms of false Christianity–but also symbolizes the beast–the final leader of the Holy Roman Empire who will be ultimately influenced by a changed one in the Vatican (by way of a demon-influenced individual who the Bible calls the false prophet, Revelation 16:13, and who is probably an “antipope” in the sense that even Roman Catholics would consider a demon-influenced pontiff an antipope).

Specifically 666 is the number of the first beast in Revelation 13 as distinguished from the Antichrist, who is the second, the two-horned beast, in the same chapter. And as Revelation 13 shows, the two-horned beast works with, and promotes, the seven-headed (and ten-horned) first beast in that chapter.

Please understand that the leader of the ten-horned Beast of Revelation 13:1-10 (see Europa, the Beast, and the Book of Revelation) and the one called 666 in Revelation 13:10 is also the one who is the final King of the North. (More information on who he may be can be found in the detailed article Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North?)

Perhaps I should add emphasize that the two-horned beast (also known as the false prophet or the final Antichrist) is mainly a religious, not a military leader. This differs from the ten-horned beast who the Bible confirms is mainly a military and political leader (even though he practices a false religion), hence the first beast is not the papacy (as Ellen White’s writings tend to state).

My experience with the Greek and Eastern Orthodox is that they have a variety of opinions and are not as uniform as many outsiders think that they are.  And while I do not believe that the currently proposed i.d. cards are 666, it appears that those in Europe are being prepared (through the new European Union that formed on December 1, 2009) to accept the Beast leader, and hence 666, in due time.

But ultimately, Jesus will come to establish His kingdom and 666 will be no more.

LCG’s Dr. Winnail: Be Prepared!

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

Dr. Douglas Winnail

COGwriter

In his latest update, LCG’s Dr. D. Winnail had the following:

Be Prepared! We are living in an increasingly uncertain world today with unstable economies, job insecurity, dramatic weather changes, storms, floods, droughts, threats of earthquakes and terrorist activities. Because of our modern dependence on technology (electricity for cooking, heating and cooling, transportation and food delivery systems, community water supplies, etc.), all these events can bring serious disruptions to normal and necessary activities of daily life. The potential for disruption in the supply of basic necessities points to the need to plan ahead to meet unexpected emergencies. This is reflected in the Boy Scout motto: Be Prepared! This same advice is found in the Scriptures. Solomon advised “Ponder the path of your feet”—think about where you are going and how you are going to get there (Proverbs 4:26). Solomon also observed “A prudent man foresees evil [danger] and hides himself [takes refuge], but the simple [naïve] pass on and are punished [face consequences]” (Proverbs 22:3; 27:12). God’s Church has long encouraged members to prepare for unexpected emergences—keep an extra supply of bottled water, a stock of non-perishable food items, extra vitamins, first aid supplies, extra batteries for flashlights and a battery-powered radio, some matches and candles, and a camp cooking stove or heating device—things that may be needed if normal public services are disrupted. While God’s people will look to God for their ultimate protection, we also need to do our part to be prepared!

The Bible is clear that Christians should take steps to be prepared both physically and spiritually.

PCG Claims Libyan Insight Was a Miracle

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

Gerald Flurry of the Philadelphia Church of God
Gerald Flurry

COGwriter

PCG’s Gerald Flurry, who has declared himself both a prophet and apostle, has the following miraculous claim in the April 2011 edition of the Philadelphia Trumpet:

Until now, I have not understood much about why the two nations of Libya and Ethiopia are mentioned in verse 43, along with Egypt. These two nations are the key that unlocks the strategy of radical Islam…

There are several Middle East nations not mentioned in Daniel 11:40-44 either by their ancient or modern names—for example, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc.

But two more nations are mentioned for a reason I have not understood as I do now.

Libya and Ethiopia

“But he [the king of the north] shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps” (Daniel 11:43). Why did God inspire the mentioning of Libya and Ethiopia? Every word in God’s inspired Bible has significance. God placed two nations in the same verse as Egypt for a definite reason. This verse states that Libya and Ethiopia are also going to be closely allied with Iran!..

So you need to watch Libya and Ethiopia. They are about to fall under the heavy influence or control of Iran, the king of the south…

Whoever heavily influences or controls Ethiopia will undoubtedly also control the small areas of Eritrea and Djibouti on the Red Sea coastline. These areas only recently became independent of Ethiopia. Also, I believe the Bible view is that these small areas are included as a part of Ethiopia…

I did a television program on January 27 of this year. The viewers were asked to watch Libya and Ethiopia because of new understanding I had received the previous day.

There was almost no news about Libya at that time. The nation seemed stable. Less than one month later, Libya’s government was about to be overthrown, or a civil war was beginning.

We believe that the new understanding we received about Libya was a miracle. We also believe the timing of when we received that understanding was a miracle.

Such miracles are not just coincidence.

You need to continue to watch for Libya and Ethiopia to make a severe and rapid turn into the radical Islamic camp.

So the Bible indicates that Libya and Ethiopia also have to be subdued by the king of the north because they were in the radical Islamic camp. Those two nations were “at his steps.” Both countries have already been influenced by radical Islam. But they are not in the radical Muslim camp—yet. (Flurry G. Libya and Ethiopia Reveal Iran’s Military Strategy. Philadelphia Trumpet, April 2011)

So, Gerald Flurry considers the fact that while there were civil uprisings throughout the Middle East, and Libya was only sometimes mentioned in the news when he publicly speculated about it, that this is a miracle.  Apparently, this is also considered as such by certain others in PCG.  How sad.

Are Predictions Made By Those in LCG More or Less Miraculous?

Perhaps Gerald Flurry and others in PCG may wish to consider what LCG’s Roderick C. Meredith wrote a month or more before the deadly Indonesian tsunami (bolding mine):

Events prophesied in your Bible are now beginning to occur with increasing frequency. In this Work of the living God, we are able to warn you about what is going to happen soon. We are not talking about decades in the future. We are talking about Bible prophecies that will intensify within the next five to 15 years of your life! Please understand. We are not “scaremongers.” We love our fellow man. So it is our responsibility to warn our peoples—ahead of time—to prepare for the future. Most of our advice is spiritual in nature. However, in this editorial I want to give you some common sense advice involving your physical survival and your financial well-being…So we must each examine our own situation to determine what action we should take. Are we living in a low-lying coastal area where we may be in danger at a time of increasing hurricanes, tsunamis or similar natural disasters?

When Dr. Meredith wrote that, tsunamis were not really in the news and no one seemed to really expect any major one.  Yet, this was the deadliest disaster in the past forty years.  Was this a miracle?  Well, it certainly seems more so than Gerald Flurry’s speculations about Libya during a time of Middle East turmoil.

What about my own writings?  As reported before, world events have lined up with at least 14 or 15 the predictions in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect.

For one example, in May of 2009, the US Air Force denied that there was any military problem with the USA’s GPS system.  Yet, that same month, I wrote the following which is now page 85 of my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect that states the following:

In 2013, the Europeans are planning on having their own global positioning system (GPS), called Galileo, available for military applications.  This will allow the Europeans to track the world and attack others without relying on the U.S.A.’s GPS.  This will be the first time in the 21st century that Europeans will be able to have that type of independent military capability.

Furthermore, according to a 2009 report from the U.S. government, the U.S. Air Force may have to start relying on the European Galileo system (at least to a degree) beginning in 2013, as the U.S. GPS capabilities are expected to deteriorate by then (other problems are also appearing in the newer U.S. satellites). Because the Europeans will be able to control Galileo, they will also likely be capable of derailing certain sophisticated U.S. military applications.  This will give the Europeans a unique defensive (as well as offensive) capability that no others on the planet will have.

And the USA did agree in 2010 to do precisely that (see USA GPS and EU Galileo linking was expected).  The idea that the USA would compromise its satellite defenses with a potential enemy was essentially unprecedented.  Those in PCG should consider that this was more “miraculous” than speculating that another Middle Eastern nation (Libya) would likely have problems.

My advanced predictions about a variety of false prophets to be proven false have also consistently come to pass.  My assertion that Gerald Flurry is falsely prophesying that Iran will be the final King of the South (and other areas where I have disagreed with his predictions) will also be shown to be true.  Hopefully, those in PCG will not wait until then or later to realize that Gerald Flurry is not God’s apostle or prophet.

Is Daniel 11:43 Talking About the Modern Nation of Ethiopia?

Now, ones of Gerald Flurry’s points about Ethiopia perhaps should be addressed.

A problem with the NKJV translation in Daniel 11:43 is that the word “Ethiopians” is not in the Hebrew in the Old Testament. The word translated as “Ethiopians” is the plural of the word Kuwshiy, which according to Biblesoft’s New Exhaustive Strong’s Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary means descendants of Cush. Or in other words, people of dark color–and it is commonly translated as Cush or Cushite in many Old Testament passages.  Wikipedia suggests that Cushites are in Somalia, but I suspect that it not the only location.

But either way, Daniel 11:43 is not necessarily referring to those from Ethiopia.

There is one famous person that the Old Testament translated into English (by some) refers to as from Ethiopia, the famous Queen of Sheba. Yet, even term Sheba’ does not usually refer to Ethiopia in the Bible, as it most of the time refers to specific, non-Ethiopian, people. Furthermore, notice the following from two different commentaries (bolding/italics theirs):

Our Saviour calls her the queen of the south, for Sheba lay south of Canaan. The common opinion is that it was in Africa; and the Christians in Ethiopia, to this day, are confident that she came from their country, and that Candace was her successor, who is mentioned Acts 8:27. But it is more probable that she came from the south part of Arabia (from Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible: New Modern Edition, Electronic Database. Copyright (c) 1991 by Hendrickson Publishers, Inc.).

The queen of Sheba has been identified as the ruler of the Sabeans (Job 1:15), who inhabited Arabia Felix (from The Wycliffe Bible Commentary, Electronic Database. Copyright (c) 1962 by Moody Press).

Thus the fact that Jesus referred to her as “the queen of the South” (Matthew 12:42; Luke 11:31), does not indicate that she was necessarily from Ethiopia. And if she was from Ethiopia, Jesus could have clearly stated that, but He did not.

The New International Version translation of the Bible seems to get Daniel 11:43 translated more correctly as follows:

He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt, with the Libyans and Nubians in submission.

And while Ethiopians might possibly be indicated here, the reality is that Nubians (who may be considered as Cushites) makes a lot more sense.

Why?

Because the Nubians are Moslems and historically lived amongst the Egyptians and the other Arabs. The Nubians have been in so much contact with Arabs that Nubians speak that some of their peoples have been “Arabized” (http://www.thenubian.net/nubtoday.php 8/05/06).

Interestingly, although it uses the term “Ethiopians” while discussing Daniel 11:43, Matthew Henry’s Commentary says that these are people who anciently lived next to Egypt.

Well, Nubians currently live in Egypt as well as in neighboring Sudan. The Sudanese, like the Nubians, are also Cushites, and are also mainly Moslem (especially since they recently killed many of the non-Moslems in the southern portion of their country)–plus Sudan is between Egypt and Ethiopia. Thus, even Daniel 11:43 is not teaching that those now called Ethiopians must be even be involved when the king of the North retaliates against the king of the South–and this is apparently one of the reasons that HWA changed his position on the identity of the future king of the South.  Those in PCG may wish to consider this.

Perhaps I should add here that even the late evangelist Raymond McNair realized that the Ethiopians were likely the Cushites as he wrote:

Daniel 11 also mentions some of the Mideast peoples who will be involved in that struggle among the nations at the close of this age. The belligerents will include the “King of the North,” the leader of the European Union (or its final outgrowth, called the “Beast”). The “King of the South” (an Islamic leader—apparently from Egypt {or} some other Muslim state) is also referred to. The following lands/peoples are specifically mentioned: Egypt, the Holy Land (Israel/Palestine), the Ethiopians (modern Cushites, south of Egypt), Libya, Edom, Moab and Ammon. Many descendants of the ancient peoples known as Edomites or Idumeans now live in the West Bank, Jordan, Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Arabia, Yemen, the Persian Gulf states, etc. (McNair R. Solving the Arab-Israeli Impasse! Copyright Raymond F. McNair 2005, Church of God—21st Century).

LCG has also reported:

The northern Sudan, anciently referred to as Cush, was once part of the Egyptian empire—a region where the future King of the South may headquarter (News and Prophecy. World Ahead Weekly Update, May 24, 2007).

In his later decades Herbert W. Armstrong believed that King of the South would be Egypt and/or an Arabic Muslim leader, as that is what was published while he was alive by the church he was the physical leader of (see Is There A Future King of the South?).  Yet since Gerald Flurry claims it is Iran, and Gerald Flurry claims to have followed Herbert W. Armstrong, this should give his followers additional pause.

Gerald Flurry’s boastings does not make his assertion about a miracle correct.

The Apostle Paul Paul warned that there would be boasters who were false apostles as he wrote:

12 But what I do, I will also continue to do, that I may cut off the opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the things of which they boast. 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:12-13, NKJV)

And I consider that Gerald Flurry is a false apostle and not God’s prophet. Nor have I ever considered that PCG is Philadelphian. Of course, I do not consider any of those who have declared themselves apostles this century, thus far, are true apostles.

No matter how much they boast.

Anyway, Iran is not the final King of the South and the Cushites in Daniel 11:43 are not necessarily represented by the modern nation of Ethiopia.
