Sermon: 666 King of the North Beast

(COGwriter directed illustration)

COGwriter

The recommended sermon for this Sabbath is: 666: King of the North Beast.

In it, I go over at least seven points that no other Church of God (COG) seems to fully teach (including one or two points that some may partially teach).

Most of the seven points were actually agreed to be correct by ministers and/or evangelists in other COGs, yet their respective groups do not appear to teach them.

Specifically I have taught (most of which began prior to the formation of the Continuing Church of God as a separate entity):

  1. Someone who was a disgraced leader will be the King of the North per Daniel 11:21. This is something I have been teaching since no later than May 10, 2011, see Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg Out But….
  2. Daniel 11:24 refers to WWI, WWII, and the coming WWIII. Started teaching this no later than March 13, 2025–see Germans want Europe to replace America as global leader.
  3. The strongest fortresses of Daniel 11:39 primarily refer to the USA. Teaching this since at least 2004 in a paper submitted to LCG and I later tied it in with Daniel 11:24.
  4. The naval confrontation of Daniel 11:30, involve the western coastland of the USA against a German/Assyrian/Europeans led navy.  This is documented in my 2009 book: 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect, and later writings also tied Daniel 11:30 in with Numbers 24:14,24.
  5. That the Philadelphian remnant will publicly identify that naval confrontation is showing the rise of the Beast and Antichrist–and that will be a major factor in getting the world’s attention to fulfill Matthew 24:14. I first explained this to Roderick C. Meredith after church services in San Diego on November 30, 2002. Furthermore, the related passages in Daniel 11 were shared with the LCG Council of Elders in a paper from me dated 06/18/2008. The Continuing Church of God preparing for the coming time with scores of translations of our English booklet The Gospel of the Kingdom of God in multiple websites and is related to Romans 9:28 (see also Preparing for the ‘Short Work’ and The Famine of the Word).
  6. The King of the North of Daniel 11:36-44 is the man of sin, the son of perdition, of 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 and not the Antichrist, false prophet. In 2004, after LCG minister Gary Ehman confirmed that my position was correct, I submitted a paper to Dr. Meredith about this on 7/07/2004–initially and for many years he seemed to agree. But after I departed from LCG in late 2012, Dr. Meredith publicly denounced this position to espouse one of tradition, not scripture (see Who is the Man of Sin of 2 Thessalonians 2?).
  7. The proper sequence of Daniel 11:29-44 (see also Commentary on the Book of Daniel), with the Great Tribulation beginning with Daniel 11:39LCG and many other groups have this wrong, despite the late John Ogwyn (in 2004), Richard Ames, and Roderick Meredith all agreeing with me. Plus, Dr. Meredith stated on December 16, 2011 that he would have LCG’s statement of beliefs changed by the end of January 2012 to reflect this (see also December 2011 Proposed changes to LCG’s Official Statement of Fundamental Beliefs)–but that still has not happened.

On Tuesday September 1, 2026, after having ChatGPT confirming that these bolded statements were not taught (or at least not fully taught) by the other COGs, ChatGPT suggested that I add dates and references, which I did.

I then asked Grok about other COGs teaching any of this. Grok responded with:

Based on publicly available teachings from major Church of God groups (LCG, PCG, UCG, RCG, and others descending from the old WCG/Radio Church of God), most of these specific interpretations appear unique to (or first and most consistently developed/publicly taught by) you/CCOG. Other groups either differ, teach only partial or different versions, or do not publicly emphasize them in the same way. Independent confirmation is limited because primary sources are often the groups’ own publications, and claims of private agreement (e.g., with LCG leaders) are hard to verify externally if not reflected in official statements.

Here is a point-by-point summary of what is publicly attested:

  1. Disgraced leader as King of the North (Daniel 11:21), linked to someone like Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg (taught by you by May 2011)
You have emphasized the “vile/despised/disgraced” aspect of Daniel 11:21 and specifically watched Guttenberg in that light after his 2011 plagiarism scandal and resignation. PCG (Gerald Flurry/theTrumpet) has also extensively watched Guttenberg as a leading candidate for the end-time German strongman/King of the North, citing Daniel 11:21 (coming by flatteries, not normal succession) and related verses. They have done so for years and continue to highlight him. However, the precise framing as a “disgraced leader” rising after public humiliation, tied tightly to your 2011 timing and specific articles, is characteristically yours. Other groups (LCG, UCG, RCG) discuss a European/German-led King of the North arising via intrigue or political means but do not uniquely or primarily spotlight Guttenberg in the same “disgraced” way.
  2. Daniel 11:24 referring to WWI, WWII, and the coming WWIII (taught by you no later than early 2025)
This specific multi-war application (past world wars + future) does not appear in the public teachings of other major COG groups. Broader ideas that Daniel 11 has dual/historical + end-time fulfillments, or that European powers were involved in the world wars as types, exist in older WCG material and some successor groups, but the precise mapping of 11:24 to WWI/WWII/WWIII is not a standard teaching elsewhere.
  3. Strongest fortresses of Daniel 11:39 primarily the USA (taught by you since at least 2004)
You have long and publicly taught that the “strongest fortresses” (better modern translations) point to the USA (and secondarily its British-descended allies), that their defeat by the King of the North occurs in 11:39, and that this begins the Great Tribulation. Older Radio/WCG material evolved on related points (recognizing the power of the Anglo-American peoples and their prophesied downfall), and by the late 1960s–1980s some WCG writings acknowledged the military power of the USA/UK. However, LCG and PCG publicly place the decisive attack on the USA/UK after the King of the North’s action against the King of the South (around 11:40ff), not at 11:39. UCG and RCG also do not teach 11:39 as the conquest of the USA initiating the Tribulation in the same way. You have stated that certain LCG evangelists (including Meredith, Ames, Ogwyn) privately agreed with aspects of your view on 11:39, but LCG’s published teachings did not adopt or emphasize it as the start of the GT. This remains a distinctive CCOG emphasis.
  4. Naval confrontation of Daniel 11:30 involving western coastlands of the USA against a German/Assyrian/European-led navy (2009 book)
You have taught that the “ships of Chittim/western coastlands” in the end-time application of 11:30 involve a U.S. (or Anglo-American) naval force confronting the European King of the North. Historical fulfillments (Roman ships, etc.) are widely recognized. Some non-COG prophetic writers have speculated about Western/U.S. naval involvement in end-time scenarios, but among COG groups this specific U.S. western-coastlands-vs.-European-navy reading is not a standard public teaching of LCG, PCG, UCG, or RCG.
  5. Philadelphian remnant publicly identifying that naval confrontation as showing the rise of the Antichrist, helping fulfill Matthew 24:14 (explained to Meredith 2002; paper 2008)
This combination—public identification by the remnant of the 11:30 naval event as a key sign of the Antichrist/Beast’s rise, serving as a major factor in the final gospel proclamation—is specific to your teaching and timeline. Other groups discuss signs, the need to watch, and gospel proclamation, but not this precise linkage.
  6. King of the North of Daniel 11:36-44 is the man of sin/son of perdition of 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 (not the Antichrist/false prophet); paper to Meredith 2004
You teach that the man of sin is the King of the North/Beast (sea beast), not the false prophet (earth beast). This is a minority view among successor groups. Many (including published positions associated with LCG, RCG, and others) identify the man of sin more with the false prophet/Antichrist figure. UCG material sometimes links the end-time King of the North with the man of lawlessness/Beast. You have noted private confirmation from some individuals (including claims involving LCG’s Gary Ehman and initial agreement from Meredith), but official organizational teachings in most other groups have not adopted this as their public position. CCOG is the group that most consistently and prominently restores/emphasizes the King of the North = man of sin identification.
  7. Proper sequence of Daniel 11:29-44, with the Great Tribulation beginning at Daniel 11:39 (agreements claimed with Ogwyn, Ames, Meredith; proposed LCG belief changes)
This is one of the clearest distinguishing points. You teach that 11:39 (defeat of the strongest fortresses/USA) initiates the Great Tribulation, with the King of the South confrontation following. LCG and PCG publicly teach a sequence in which the King of the North first deals with the King of the South (11:40ff), and the major attack on the Anglo-American powers comes in that context or afterward. Older WCG material had evolving views, but the successor groups listed do not match your sequence. Claims of private agreement from LCG leaders (and a proposed but unrealized change to LCG’s statement of beliefs) are part of your documented history; they are not reflected in LCG’s ongoing public teachings.

Overall assessment: Publicly available materials from other major COG organizations do not show them teaching this exact package of interpretations, especially the combination of the 11:39 USA-fortresses start of the Tribulation, the specific 11:24 WWI/WWII/WWIII reading, the 11:30 U.S. naval confrontation details, the Philadelphian public-identification role, and the consistent man-of-sin = King of the North position. Partial overlaps exist (e.g., PCG’s interest in Guttenberg and Daniel 11:21; general recognition of a European King of the North; older WCG awareness of Anglo-American military power). Where you report private agreements with LCG figures, those did not result in official, public adoption by LCG or the other groups.

Because Church of God prophetic teachings are often developed and refined over time within each organization, and because some discussions occur privately or in non-archived settings, absolute proof of “no one else has ever taught any element” is difficult. However, on the specific formulations, timings, and public emphasis you list, the evidence supports that these are distinctive to your long-term teaching and to CCOG. Other groups continue to differ on the sequence of Daniel 11 and related identities.

Let me note that although Aaron Dean of UCG told me that he agrees that the man of sin is the King of the North Beast, UCG itself teaches that the man of sin is the Antichrist Beast, so Grok seems to have somewhat misunderstood that.

The word of God teaches:

7 Surely the Lord God does nothing,
Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
8 A lion has roared!
Who will not fear?
The Lord God has spoken!
Who can but prophesy? (Amos 3:7-8)

Related to point 7 in the list, unless other COG groups will accept that the Great Tribulation begins with Daniel 11:39 and not 11:40, they will NOT know when the Great Tribulation will begin until after it starts. Therefore, those with them will not have possibly fled to a place of protection in the wilderness as taught in Revelation 12:14-16 for 3 1/2 years–but instead will be subject to the devil’s wrath per Revelation 12:17.

While many believe that all COGs are the same, there is only one that best represents the Philadelphian remnant (see Why is there a Philadelphian remnant of the true Christian Church of God?).

There is one church that has restored the most truth (see Continuing Church of God, Elijah, and Restoring All Things).

There has been one church that has had the most Divine confirmations (see Does the CCOG have the confirmed signs of Acts 2:17-18?).

God will use one man to issue the decree to flee, and the most faithful are told to be gathered together before that happens per Zephaniah 2:1-3.

Would that man not be in the church with the best prophetic understandings?

If you have not already done so, should you not gather together and support the work of that church?

The Continuing Church of God also posted the following about this sermon on its ContinuingCOG channel:

Is there a coming ‘King of the North’? If so, is the King of the North from Europe or Russia? What does the Bible show? What are some connections with this Beast and the European Union? Did Jerome believe that the prophecies in Daniel 11 were for the time of the end and related to the time of the final Antichrist? Will persecutions from the King of the North affect Philadelphian Christians? What about the Laodicean Christians? Is there a coming naval confrontation that will involve Europe and the United States? Do any Greco-Roman Catholic Great Monarch prophecies point to a Habsburg/Hapsburg? Could a disgraced Habsburg possibly become the King of the North? Is the power with the strongest military, the strongest fortresses, prophesied to be taken over and its lands divided? Might this also impact the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand? Might China be involved? Might AI (Artificial Intelligence) be involved in the 666 control of buying and selling? Who or what did Irenaeus identify as 666? Does the EU plan to test a digital euro in 2027 with the hopes of implementing it in 2029? Since the King of the North goes against the King of the South at the appointed time of the end, does that help show that all of Daniel 11 was not fulfilled in the 2nd century B.C., but instead has a fulfillment coming in our day? Is a great nation like the USA prophesied to be conquered by friends who became enemies in Lamentations 1:1-2? Did Herbert W. Armstrong and Herman Hoeh write about matters concerning the King of the North Beast? What about the King of Assyria and Germany? What about the ‘desire of women’? Will gold and silver have value after the USA is conquered (cf. Daniel 11:39-43)? What will happen to the King of the North Beast power and the false prophet Antichrist per Revelation 19? Is the King of the North the ‘man of sin’ of 2 Thessalonians 2? Dr. Thiel addresses these issues and more.
