China’s smog choking Japan

China is exporting a large amount of polluted air to Japan:

Smog from China is now drifting over parts of Japan, triggering health warnings for the young and sick.

Japanese media has been saturated with coverage of the thick, choking smog blanketing Beijing and other Chinese cities in recent days.

News programs have also broadcast maps showing the pollution being pushed west by the winds towards southern Japan.  http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-02-05/chinese-smog-chokes-japan/4500760

Pictures of Beijing and other Chinese cities shrouded in thick, choking smog have been playing out on Japanese TV screens since last week.

News programs have broadcasted maps showing a swirl of pollution gathering strength across China and spreading over the ocean toward Japan…

Air pollution over west Japan has exceeded government limits over the past few days, with tiny particulate matter posing a significant problem, said Atsushi Shimizu of the National Institute for Environmental Studies.

The prevailing winds from the west carry over such particles from mainland Asia, he said. Most of the concern is focusing on the concentration of particles 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter. The concentration has been as high as 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air recently in northern Kyushu.

The government limit is 35 micrograms.

Yellow sand from the deserts of Mongolia and China is known to be a source of these particles, as well as automobile and factory fumes. http://www.japantimes.co.jp/life/2013/02/05/environment/chinas-thick-smog-settling-over-japan/#.URBEXPKLLxo

I read a story a year or two ago that if China did not take steps to clean up its air, those of us on the West Coast of California would have unhealthful air from China (and that was even presuming no local air pollution in California).  So, it is of little surprise that Japan, which is much, much closer to China geographically is being affected.

One would think that since Chinese officials have to breath the bad air themselves, that they would take more steps to improve the air quality.  Perhaps because of problems that China has had with pollution (Record air pollution in Beijing: Jesus ultimately will fix these types of problems), and perhaps some international complaints, the Chinese will get a bit more serious about cleaning up their air.

It is partially because of pollution, economic policies, other problems, its serious potential for significant social unrest, and how it is discussed in biblical prophecy, that despite its economic gains, the 21st century will not belong to China. China will not become number 1, but later in this century, neither will the USA.

The following passage which involves the second coming of Jesus, and comes from the book also known as the Apocalypse, has an interesting statement:

8 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, And those who fear Your name, small and  great, And should destroy those who destroy the earth. (Revelation 11:18)

Are not massive air, water, and other pollution problems part of how humankind is destroying the earth? In a sense, pollution will be a factor in the Apocalypse as the above passage shows.

Jesus will need to return to save humanity from destroying itself (Matthew 24:22).
