Dalai Lama says the world is moving towards peace, but what does the Bible teach?

The Tibetan Buddhist leader known as the Dalai Lama believes that the world is moving towards peace and he admires the European Union:

January 22, 2017

The exiled spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists said the world needed leaders with compassion. He made the remarks Saturday at a program in New Delhi organized by the women’s chapter of an industry group, according to the press statement.

He said the world is moving toward peace and non-violence, and he hopes Trump and Putin will come closer and work toward creating global peace. …

The Dalai Lama has met former U.S. presidents, including four meetings with Barack Obama. Such meetings anger Beijing, which accuses the Tibetan leader of trying to split Tibet from China. The Dalai Lama says he simply wants a higher degree of autonomy under Chinese rule. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/dalai-lama-expresses-hope-for-trump-putin-relationship/

“Dialogue” should drive the 21st century, the Dalai Lama has said, hoping that newly elected US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will “work together” for a peaceful global order.

The Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader made the remarks while observing that peace and non—violence was “growing” in the current era as he lauded the the role of multilateralism, especially the European Union (EU).

“I am one of the admirers of EU and look forward to African Union, Latin American Union, Asian Union and one at the global level. Using force has become outdated. The 21st century should be the century of dialogue,” the Dalai Lama said, and exuded hope that Trump and Putin would work together.

He was speaking at an event organised by the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) at the Federation House. http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/Dalai-Lama-bats-for-cooperation-between-Trump-Putin/article17073619.ece

Is the world moving towards peace and non-violence as the Dalai Lama claims?

Consider that Jesus told of a time called the ‘beginning of sorrows’ that would include wars and rumors of war (Matthew 24:4-8) that would precede the start of the ‘great tribulation’ (Matthew 24:21). We have been seeing that.

Yet, prior to the start of the great tribulation, the Bible warns that there will be false declarations of peace (Ezekiel 13:8-16; 1 Thessalonians 5:21).

The Bible teaches that a peace deal will be confirmed by a European leader (called ‘the prince’ below) about 3 1/2 years prior to the start of the great tribulation:

26 And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate (Daniel 9:26-27).

The above is referring to a deal or covenant that has a time element attached to it.

The ‘one week’ time element has generally been understood by prophecy watchers to mean a seven year deal, that will be broken in the middle of it (after 3 1/2 years). The ‘with many’ would seem to indicate that ‘many’ nations, as opposed to one or two, are agreeing to something.

The reference to a “prince” is referring to the leader of the developing European empire (see King of the North and Europa, the Beast, and the Book of Revelation). One way to show this is to realize that it was the people of the Roman Empire of the 1st century that fulfilled the portion of Daniel 9:26 as they destroyed the city (Jerusalem) in 70 A.D. Jewish sources, while not understanding all of this, also agree that it was Roman sources that destroyed the city and sanctuary as the following demonstrates:

“The people of the prince will come and destroy the city and the Sanctuary” Daniel 9:26, refers to the Roman legions of Vespasian and Titus, who destroyed Jerusalem. (Daniel 9 – A True Biblical Interpretation. Jews for Judaism. https://jewsforjudaism.org/knowledge/articles/answers/jewish-polemics/texts/daniel-9-a-true-biblical-interpretation/ accessed 07/30/16)

In the 21st century, the European Union includes much of the land and peoples that were part of the ancient Roman Empire.  And it is the “prince” coming from that people that verse 27 of Daniel 9 is referring to. Thus, this prophecy tells us that a lower level European leader will somewhat officially start to rise up about 3 1/2 years before the great tribulation (and yes, according to Jesus, some “tribulation” does happen prior to the start of the Great Tribulation). Another is the fact that the “beast of the sea” of Revelation 13:1 fits with the beasts from the “great sea” of Daniel 7:2–and that sea is the Mediterranean Sea according to the Old Testament. Hence a power in Europe the only region that could have an empire geographically like the old Roman one (for more details, please see Europa, the Beast, and the Book of Revelation).

Notice also the following about the end time Beast leader:

11 He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down. 12 Because of transgression, an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast truth down to the ground. He did all this and prospered. (Daniel 8:11-12)

Consider that it is a ‘prince’ who takes away the daily sacrifices in Daniel 9:27, and that he is also called the King of the North (Daniel 11:40) who stops the sacrifices in Daniel 11:31.

Daniel 9:27 seems to be discussing some type of peace deal that the Europeans will either propose or at least one leader from Europe will endorse. Those that claim that the “prince to come” in Daniel 9:26 is Jesus and that He is the one that confirms a covenant with many for one week, etc., will not understand what is happening related to this deal. The “prince to come” is the final European King of the North.  He is the one in Daniel 11:31 who fulfills bringing the end of the sacrifice and offering 3 1/2 years after he confirms the deal (the middle of a seven year prophetic week). Jesus did not destroy the city nor the sanctuary, nor is there a biblical record that He confirmed a seven-year covenant. Perhaps it should also be pointed out that for sacrifices to stop, they first must start–it may very well be that the Israeli government will allow them after the deal of Daniel 9:27 is put together and/or confirmed. Although they could start earlier, after the deal seems to be more likely–and we know that they do occur after the deal (the Bible does not state whether any begin prior to the deal).

About 3 1/2 years after the deal of Daniel 9:27, there will be stirrings from the King of the North (Daniel 11:31-38). Philadelphian Christians (Revelation 3:7-13) will be warning of his actions and intents–and the King of the North plans DO INCLUDE VIOLENCE AND WAR (cf. Daniel 11:39-43; Revelation 13:1-4).

Yet, many in the media will not understand what is happening, nor will most politicians. Notice that the Bible says:

3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. (1 Thessalonians 5:3)

Leaders will attempt to tell people all is calm when it is not. Only those who ‘gather together’ (Zephaniah 2:1-3) as Philadelphian Christians are promised protection then (cf. Revelation 3:10; 12:14-16; see also There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Petra)–other Christians are not (cf. Revelation 12:17).

The Dalai Lama likes the European Union. But the Bible teaches that the Europeans will reorganize and even fight against God:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.” (Revelation 17:12-14)

The way of the world and the European Union will not end in peace.

All, including the Dalai Lama, should pray for peace and the establishment of the Kingdom of God.

It will take the return of Jesus to truly establish peace on this earth.
