Jesus prophesied:
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:7-8)
In Mark’s account, we see that Jesus prophesied troubles:
8 … And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:8)

Earthquakes: Sorrows and The Big One
We keep learning of major earthquakes all over the world in places such as Colombia, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines. and various islands. Official sources, including the USGS, say there is nothing unusual about this seismic activity and there is nothing to worry about. Official sources tell us that this seismic activity is “fairly” normal. What does that mean? Have official sources ever been wrong in the past? Could official sources, however sincere, be wrong? Is it even possible that some official sources are scoffers of the word of God. Are you aware that geologists have announced that the situation with of the San Andreas Fault in California are worse that scientists previously thought? What does the Bible say about earthquakes, troubles, and “the beginning of sorrows”? Earthquakes are part of what Jesus referred to as “the beginning of sorrows.” Could these official sources be wrong? Do you know of anyone who scoffs and mocks whenever the word of God is mentioned? The “beginning of sorrows” happens during the last days of humanity’s rejection of God. AND earthquakes are on the increase during the “beginning of sorrows”. See what God says about scoffers during the last days in 2 Peter 3:3. Does the Book of Revelation warn of specific earthquakes? Is the ‘big one’ so apocalyptic that it is bigger than modern scientists realize is possible? Will it be so big that it levels mountains and drowns islands? Sadly, most now will not consider their ways and will likely ignore increased earthquakes.
In addition to praying for God’s kingdom to come (Matthew 6:9-10), Jesus said:
36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man. (Luke 21:36)
