NBC reported the following:
Inflation ticked up in August, setting the stage for the Fed to hike interest rates
September 11, 2026
Inflation overall in August rose by 0.4% month-over-month to an annual rate of 3.4%, which was unchanged from July.
But core inflation, which excludes food and recently-soaring energy costs, rose 0.3%, which was slightly more than the 0.2% expected by economists. That core inflation reading will likely set the stage for a Federal Reserve rate hike during the central bank’s next meeting.
“The index for gasoline rose 3.9 percent in August, accounting for over one third of the monthly all items increase,” the Bureau of Labor Statistics said in a news release. …
In the minutes following the report, market odds for a Fed rate hike rose from under 70% to nearly 90%. Odds for a follow-on hike in October rose to almost 60%. The Fed’s next policy meeting takes place on Sept. 15 and 16. https://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/august-inflation-interest-rates-affordability-rcna597095
The official debt of the USA stood at $40,074,284,925,786.50 on Wednesday. On January 17, 2025, the last business date for the Biden-Harris Administration, the debt was $36,206,593,315,575.15.
It was $5,807,178,050,901.33 on 09/11/2001. That is more than a seven-fold increase.
Any rise in interest rates will increase the debt as the USA pays massive amounts of interest, already, on its debt.
The USA is risking economic collapse and conquering (e.g. Daniel 11:39).
Hopefully all readers believe the following prophecy and understand that it applies to the USA:
2 And the Lord answered me:
“Write the vision;
make it plain on tablets,
so he may run who reads it.
3 For still the vision awaits its appointed time;
it hastens to the end—it will not lie.
If it seems slow, wait for it;
it will surely come; it will not delay.4 “Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him,
but the righteous shall live by his faith.5 “Moreover, wine is a traitor,
an arrogant man who is never at rest.
His greed is as wide as Sheol;
like death he has never enough.
He gathers for himself all nations
and collects as his own all peoples.”6 Shall not all these take up their taunt against him, with scoffing and riddles for him, and say,
“Woe to him who heaps up what is not his own—
for how long?—
and loads himself with pledges!”
7 Will not your debtors suddenly arise,
and those awake who will make you tremble?
Then you will be spoil for them.
8 Because you have plundered many nations,
all the remnant of the peoples shall plunder you,
for the blood of man and violence to the earth,
to cities and all who dwell in them. (Habakkuk 2:2-8; English Standard Version)
The USA is the most indebted nation in the history of humanity and those in it should try to understand this prophecy–rising interest rates mean that it will cost the US government more to service its debt–this will one day be truly unsustainable. Perhaps it should be noted that the United Kingdom also has massive amounts of total deb.
Notice that God tells Habakkuk that those who read this should run–that means they should take proper spiritual action now (cf. N Luke 21:36), and then, eventually physically flee (cf. Revelation 12:14-16).
The rise of US debt was listed by me as number 12 of my 26 items to prophetically watch in 2026
The Anglo-American world order will come to an end. Accumulation of debt, and then having to pay historically ‘normal’ interest rates will strain the national economies of the USA and UK more than almost anyone will believe. It will be a financial crisis beyond what Donald Trump would consider possible.
Those who think the current world order with the USA’s dollar on top will last several decades are in error.
The idea that the debt does not matter is a false and arrogant belief.
The Bible teaches:
18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)
It is prideful arrogance that gets humans to think that they can essentially completely control the economy and just borrow and print up money. They cannot. Weather, political events, diseases, wars, morality, technology, and other factors play a role.
Plus, there is also the matter of debt accumulation by the USA and biblical prophecy.
Those who will believe the Bible will take the words that God spoke to the prophet Habakkuk seriously.
Notice also the following from my free eBook Unintended Consequences and Donald Trump’s Presidency related to debt, inflation, interest rates, and the USA dollar:
There is also something referred to as the “law of unintended consequences.” There are consequences for the USA, Europe, and elsewhere that have and will occur because of Donald Trump’s statements and actions.
As president again, Donald Trump will have to deal with the fact that the USA is the most indebted nation in the history of humanity and that such debt is expected to increase.
Debt is a prophesied problem (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8).
The time will come when the government of the USA will no longer be able to borrow at low enough interest rates and/or it will create more money to continue.
Make no mistake about it, although Donald Trump has proposed some policies that could reduce inflation, massive inflation is coming. …
Debt
The USA has greatly increased its debts this century.
The Bible warns that debt, and having to borrow from foreigners, is a curse that would hit those who received various biblical blessings as they became more disobedient (Deuteronomy 28:15,43-46).
Donald Trump loves debt. Here is something he said about it in 2016:
I’m the king of debt. I love debt.[i]
Debt is dangerous.
Consider also that Donald Trump said because interest rates were once “so low”:
[T]his is the time to borrow, and to borrow long term, so that we can have money to rebuild our infrastructure.[ii]
Donald Trump also said:
I have borrowed, knowing that you can pay back with discounts. And I have done very well with debt. Now, of course, I was swashbuckling, and it did well for me and it was good for me and all that. …
Now we’re in a different situation with a country, but I would borrow knowing that if the economy crashed you could make a deal. And if the economy was good it was good so therefore you can’t lose. …
I don’t want to renegotiate the bonds, but I think you can do discounting. … I’m not even suggesting that we don’t borrow money at very low rates long term so we don’t have to worry about when they come due.[iii]
Nobody knows debt better than me. I’ve made a fortune by using debt and if things don’t work out, I renegotiate the debt. Well, you go back and you say, ‘hey, guess what? The economy just crashed. I’m going to give you back half.[iv]
It sounds like Donald Trump believes that debt is good and there is nothing wrong with defaulting or otherwise not intending to pay the total debt back.
The Bible says the wicked have that attitude:
21 The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives. (Psalms 37:21)
Donald Trump has also filed for bankruptcy four times[v]—presumably to not pay back debt, while he claims a financial worth around $10 billion.
He may consider that to be ‘good business,’ but his practices and intents sound biblically immoral.
Official USA debt increased by over $7.8 trillion in his first Administration. Donald Trump is hoping that tariffs and his proposed External Revenue Service will greatly assist with USA debt. However, such an agency will have problems. Official USA debt will rise in Donald Trump’s second term in office.
Donald Trump has voiced concerns about interest rates rising in the USA:
If interest rates go up one percent, that’s devastating. What happens if that interest rate goes up 2, 3, 4 points? We don’t have a country.[vi]
The rates Donald Trump was concerned about were not outrageously high. Interest rates have risen since he made that statement, though they are not near historical highs.
Yet, interest on the official US government debt is now the second highest expenditure in the US (Social Security is first).[vii]
The USA is walking a dangerous line on its debt that will not end well.
Let us also consider that there is a prophecy in Habakkuk, written about 2600 years ago, about debt which is preceded by the following:
2 Then the Lord answered me and said:
“Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. (Habakkuk 2:2)
The Bible says that the ‘debt prophecy’ in Habakkuk 2 is so significant that those who read it should run—essentially that they should take steps because the results will be horrific. Donald Trump and many other American politicians have not run away from increasing USA debt—that will be to the nation’s peril.
The Bible warns about something that will happen to a heavily indebted nation. Notice what the Hebrew seer Habakkuk wrote over 2,600 years ago:
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry … 5 Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, He is a proud man … 6 “Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say, ‘Woe to him who increases What is not his—how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges’? 7 Will not your creditors rise up suddenly? Will they not awaken who oppress you? And you will become their booty. 8 Because you have plundered many nations, All the remnant of the people shall plunder you…” (Habakkuk 2:3, 5, 6–8).
Notice that what is to happen is so bad, that people who read the prophecy should run when it is time for it to be fulfilled. Since that prophecy is to be fulfilled at the appointed time of the end, it is still for the future, but perhaps not too far distant in the future. No nation has ever been in as much total debt as the USA.
The “U.S. is highly vulnerable to loss of confidence by foreign creditors.”[viii] U.S. government debt is “extremely vulnerable to foreign attack because of the high percentage of foreign ownership.”[ix]
Interestingly, in the past, one foreign creditor, China, has raised concerns about the U.S. debt that are so serious, that its potential dumping of that debt has been called China’s “nuclear option”[x] against the USA—an option that involves no military intervention, but that could greatly harm the USA.
European leaders have been working for years to establish a new reserve currency for the world, partially with the intent to remove the USA dollar from its current position as a reserve currency.
Those in Russia, Iran and some of the Arab lands, along with nations such as Brazil and India have discussed plans for the removal of the dominance of the USA dollar in global trade as well. Many are now working on that, along with China, in what is called the BRICS alliance.[xi] While Donald Trump did not cause all of this, an unintended consequence of the use of sanctions in the Trump-Pence Administration (as well as by the Biden-Harris Administration) is that more nations are looking to bypass the dollar.
The Bible clearly warns against cheapening the money supply and encourages having money hold its value (Proverbs 25:4 Isaiah 1:25, Ezekiel 22:18-22). But policies under the past several presidential administrations have ignored these warnings.
No nation in the history of humankind has ever accumulated as much debt as the United States of America (because the UK has almost double the amount of per capita debt than the USA,[xii] its fate would be similar). Destruction is coming.
Yet, the relationship between debt accumulation and prophesied destruction remains unapparent to many.
Although as 45th president Donald Trump inherited a debt-laden nation, debt increased during his first term. And will do so again according to economists.[xiii]
These increases of debt, combined with a time of rising interest rates, are likely to continue past the point of no return and become one of the final factors that will cause creditors to rise up and destroy the USA.
Donald Trump, himself, does not seem to care about the biblical warnings related to debt.
Now if interest rates rise to levels seen in the early 1980s, even decent growth in the economy and governmental spending cuts will not be enough to keep the total debt from getting out of control. …
When the U.S. dollar is no longer the world’s reserve currency, this will hurt the USA financially. Increasing debt, including “quantitative easing,” is a form of dishonest profits that is not something that God approves of and will punish the USA for (cf. Ezekiel 22:13-16).
Inflation will eventually hit the USA extremely hard. As the world becomes less attached to the American dollar, many financial jobs and opportunities will be in places other than the USA. Eventually, but not yet, the USA dollar will become worthless.
Will it always be straight downhill for the economy of the USA?
No. …
The debt situation of the USA is putting it at risk of being unable to recover should it be hit by weather problems, terrorist acts, war, riots, solar flares, severe earthquakes, civil unrest, devastation of its genetically-modified food supplies, food shortages, and/or various pestilences–. A combination of these events would lead to an intensity of “sorrows” such as Jesus discussed in Matthew 24:4-8, leading up to the time of the Great Tribulation. Political issues, climate change, trade policies, communication’s deals, and other events are pushing the USA into a more weakened state that will someday encourage its takeover. Disasters, especially if there is an ElectroMagnetic Pulse (EMP) attack or a severe solar flare storm, devastating hurricane (s) something like a massive volcanic eruption and/or massive earthquake could be part of a so-called “perfect storm” of events that could set up the U.S.A. for destruction.

Europe is prophesied to reorganize and put in power a man who is even more bold and egotistical than Donald Trump (cf. Revelation 17:12-13).
Despite issues, Europe will eventually unify and support the rise of the Beast of Revelation.
Pushing them to do so is one of the many specific unintended consequences I warned about for this Donald Trump presidency.
