COGwriter In June 2007

During June 2007, the News of Interest to those once Affiliated with the Worldwide Church of God page was changed to this Church of God News page.  In addition to the title change, there was a format change as well.

While most readers seem to have liked the change, I did hear from one who said that the font size on this new format was difficult for him to read.  So, I asked my son Michael to see what he could do.  So as of now, you can click the word “Large” in the upper right of this page to increase the font size (you can also click on the word “Normal” to return to the standard size).

One oddity that I noticed during the month is that Alexa (a site that supposedly ranks the popularity of websites) uses a highly biased (apparently towards New Zealand in the case of this website) sample to determine rankings.  For example, it states that 47.7% of visitors to this site were from New Zealand and that 47.7% were from the United States, where in fact New Zealanders make up less than 3% of those who visit the COGwriter pages.

One reason that I noticed this bias was because it seemed strange to me that although the total hits to the COGwriter pages is double what they actually were last year, my “Alexa ranking” dropped a little bit.  The fact is that the COGwriter site gets more hits and page views (Alexa allegedly is based on page views) individually from Canada, the EU, South Africa, Great Britain, and China than it does from New Zealand (which makes sense as they all have much larger populations than New Zealand does).

During June, the following were the most viewed articles (excludes news, searches, and quizes) at the COGwriter.com website:

  1. Concerns About Ronald Weinland’s Church of God-Preparing for the Kingdom of God Ronald Weinland claims to be one of the two witnesses. He has at least one other view that suggests that he is not part of the COG.
  2. LCG 2007 Feast of Tabernacles’ Sites A listing from LCG updates concerning Feast of Tabernacles’s locations for 2007.
  3. Why Not the Restored Church of God? This group, led by David Pack, claims to be the most faithful. The information in this article suggests otherwise.
  4. History of Early Christianity Are you aware that what most people believe is not what truly happened to the true Christian church?
  5. Europa, the Beast, and the Book of Revelation discusses the largest church since the second/third century, which in a real sense is the eighth church mentioned in the Book of Revelation.
  6. Some Similarities and Differences Between the Orthodox Church and the Churches of God Both groups have some amazing similarities and some major differences. Do you know what they are?
  7. Sola Scriptura or Prima Luther? What Did Martin Luther Really Believe About the Bible? Though he is known for his public sola Scriptura teaching, Martin Luther’s writings about the Bible suggest he felt that prima Luther was his ultimate authority.
  8. Differences between the Living Church of God and United Church of God This article provides quotes information from the two largest groups which had their origins in WCG as well as commentary.
  9. Did the True Church Ever Teach a Trinity? Most act like this is so, but is it?
  10. SDA/COG Differences: Two Horned Beast of Revelation and 666 The COG is NOT part of the Seventh-day Adventists. This article explains two prophetic differences, the trinity, and differences in approaching doctrine.
  11. Binitarian View: One God, Two Beings Before the Beginning Is binitarianism the correct position? What about unitarianism or trinitarianism?
  12. 15 Accusations and Truthful Responses About Herbert Armstrong He, even after his death, keeps being improperly maligned–here is the truth on these matters.

Most of the above articles were updated, at least slightly, during June 2007.

I had hoped that the new article India, Its Biblical Past and Future, Part I: Any Witness?  would have been more popular, but historically, it appears it takes some time from when I announce an article until its popularity increases (this may also have to do with external search engines as they seem to take a while to find the articles).
