Kansas bill correctly declares life begins at fertilization

Despite nonsense rhetoric for decades by the pro-abortionists, the State of Kansas has a bill that contains at least one painfully truthful fact that abortionists like to claim is debatable:

April 6, 2013

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas legislators gave final passage to a sweeping anti-abortion measure Friday night, sending Gov. Sam Brownback a bill that declares life begins “at fertilization” while blocking tax breaks for abortion providers and banning abortions performed solely because of the baby’s sex.

The House voted 90-30 for a compromise version of the bill reconciling differences between the two chambers, only hours after the Senate approved it, 28-10. The Republican governor is a strong abortion opponent, and supporters of the measure expect him to sign it into law so that the new restrictions take effect July 1…

The declaration that life begins at fertilization is embodied in “personhood” measures in other states. Such measures are aimed at revising their constitutions to ban all abortions, and none have been enacted, though North Dakota voters will have one on the ballot in 2014.

But Kansas lawmakers aren’t trying to change the state constitution, and the measure notes that any rights suggested by the language are limited by decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court.

So, there is some good news and some common sense with some government officials.

True biological science, proper human observation, and the Bible all support the truth that human life begins at conception.  Many around the world either wish to ignore that or simply do not care that they are killing an unborn baby when they have/perform an abortion.

As far as the Bible goes, it is clear that David and Jeremiah were human and known before to God while they were in the womb prior to being born:

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me,When as yet there were none of them (Psalm 139:13-16).

4 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying:

5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:4-5).

Furthermore, notice that the death penalty could come from an injury to a pregnant woman:

If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman’s husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe (Exodus 21:22-25).

The expression “no harm follows” can be interpreted that both the mother and the baby live, and that the baby and mother are healthy. But, if they are not and somehow permanently harmed, punishment will follow, apparently including the death penalty if either die. God does not condone the killing of unborn infants.

In the Hebrew scriptures (the Old Testament) a term translated about 26 times as infant(s) or child or little one is the Hebrew word ‘owlel. That same word is used for unborn infants in Job 3:16 (and perhaps other verses), hence God considers unborn infants to be living human beings–children.

The Bible shows, that unlike humans, God does know how babies grow in the womb:

5 As you do not know what is the way of the wind, Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, So you do not know the works of God who makes everything (Ecclesiastes 11:5).

And in the New Testament, Elizabeth made a positive comment about her unborn baby John the Baptist leaping (Luke 1:41-44) and the statements that the Angel that appeared to Mary to tell her about her upcoming conception (Luke 1:31-35) also provide additional biblical support to the idea that the unborn are human. And thus, should not be killed through abortion.

While Kansas is getting some of this right, understand that the President of the United States claims that abortion is “a constitutional right” and the Supreme Court back in 1973 overruled states’ rights banning abortion, so we will see what will really be the result of this action in Kansas.  But it is still good news when some politicians take a morally proper stand that goes against the general view of the mainstream media.

Note, after I wrote the above, I saw the following news item (from the USA):

A federal judge…ordered that the most common morning-after pill be made available over the counter for all ages, instead of requiring a prescription for girls 16 and younger…the pill…helps prevent pregnancy after sexual intercourse…http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/06/health/judge-orders-fda-to-make-morning-after-pill-available-over-the-counter-for-all-ages.html?pagewanted=2&_r=0

The pill induces abortion if fertilization occurs.  Its end result is that it basically kills the new baby.  The federal judge essentially ruled that having an age limit was not based upon safety, but political considerations.  My reading of this suggests that the judge also seems to feel that any female of any age at any time should be able to kill their unborn offspring.

Many leaders seemingly favor killing the unborn.  I am glad some in Kansas have a different view.
