There are parents, like my wife and I, who raised completely unvaccinated children.
Related to children and vaccines, the McCullough Report posted:
Survival guide for the completely unvaccinated child
February 2, 2026
Would diseases like polio come roaring back if vaccination stopped? Dr. McCullough argues that a large-scale resurgence of mid‑20th‑century infectious diseases is highly unlikely in industrialized nations. He attributes their historical decline far more to modern sanitation, hygiene, nutrition, and water treatment than to vaccination alone.
Polio is handled today by widespread wastewater surveillance and advanced disinfection infrastructure break the fecal‑oral transmission cycle that polio requires. With residual immunity from decades of vaccination and robust public‑health monitoring, McCullough concludes that polio “has no ecological substrate” to spark epidemics.
How would vaccine‑preventable diseases be treated in unvaccinated people today?
Virtually all bacterial illnesses—such as diphtheria, tetanus, pneumococcal pneumonia, meningococcal meningitis, typhoid, and pertussis—are now readily treatable with antibiotics or antitoxins, provided there is early detection and proper wound care.or viral infections, he outlines modern interventions:
- Measles – immunoglobulin, vitamin A, and antibiotics for secondary infection.
- Mumps, rubella, polio – supportive care; rubella of concern in women of child-bearing potential.
- Chickenpox – oral or IV acyclovir.
- Hepatitis B – antivirals such as maternal tenofovir and HB immunoglobulin for newborns of infected mothers, along with vaccination.
- RSV – bronchodilator nebulizers and monoclonal antibodies.
When vaccination still makes clinical sense
Dr. McCullough nonetheless outlines specific, compelling indications for vaccination under shared decision‑making with all vaccines available to doctors and patients.
Healthy individuals in developed nations could safely forgo routine vaccination; targeted use remains prudent where exposure risk and medical vulnerability intersect. https://www.americaoutloud.news/survival-guide-for-the-completely-unvaccinated-child/
In our family’s case, none of our sons were vaccinated as children.
Two got chicken pox and probably all of them got whooping cough.
But as a natural health professional, I did not treat them with medications such as recommended by Dr. McCullough. Instead, basically herbs and glandular combinations. There never appeared to be any serious or lasting side effects from those diseases affecting them.
Consider that vaccines, of themselves, are not bad. Some aspects of modern medicine can be good. Vaccines have helped prevent some diseases (like Yellow Fever) that even proper sanitary practices do not prevent. However, vaccines do not react the same in all people and some people have serious, and in rare instances fatal, reactions to them. Vaccines do not benefit every individual.
Various court decisions in the United States have upheld the rights of individuals seeking exemptions from immunizations/inoculations/vaccinations based upon “personal” religious beliefs (e.g. Sherr and Levy vs. Northport East-Northport Union Free School District, 672 F. Supp. 81, (E.D.N.Y., 1987); (Allanson vs. Clinton Central School District, U.S. District Court, Northern District Court, Northern District of New York (84 CV 174), 1984; Campain vs. Marlboro Central School District, Supreme Court Ulster County Special Term, November 15, 1985; Brown vs. City School District, 429 NYS2d 355; Maier vs, Betat 73 Misc2d 241).
As far as the mainstream media and vaccines go, the following scripture came to mind:
16 The lazy man is wiser in his own eyes
Than seven men who can answer sensibly. (Proverbs 26:16)
The fact is that those who have looked more into the science of vaccines more than the vast majority of media writers and commentators often do not agree with their assertions.
The old Radio Church of God published the following back in the 1960s:
One doctor states that polio is caused by a weakened physical constitution and that health-promoting foods can prevent polio completely. Children who indulge in soft drinks (especially “colas”), candy, over-sweetened and refined, starchy foods, are the greatest sufferers of polio. POLIO IS UNKNOWN in countries where people live on NATURAL foods — raw milk, whole-grain cereals, fruits and vegetables — and do not have our refined, devitalized, demineralized foods, candies and soft drinks. …
The main diet of many people, especially children, in summer (the polio season) consists of colas, soft drinks, candy, hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream. If we would replace this “junk” with substantial meals of fresh fruits, melons, milk, vegetables and protein foods (meat, fish, poultry and eggs), then we would have greater resistance to polio and other diseases. Also, there would be almost no tooth decay. Vaccination does not eliminate the CAUSE of disease — that of WRONG LIVING HABITS! Disease is caused by wrong eating, living and thinking! Our WAY OF LIFE must be changed in order to eliminate sickness and disease. This can only be done by following the principles of life — the basic laws of health — given by our Creator in His Word, the Bible. (Boraker R. The TRUTH About DRUGS and VACCINES. Good News, August 1961)
Leading doctors have warned that there is no substitute for clean living – that drugs cannot nullify the damage done by wanton breaking of all health laws – and that wholesale vaccinations can weaken man’s overall natural resistance to disease. But as long as we appear to be well, almost no one gives these warnings a second thought. (Martin E. Will we ever learns? Plain Truth, August 1965)
In the 1980s, the old Worldwide Church of God taught that ingredients in medications or shots which may be unclean to eat as food, were not prohibited for Christians to use. This was consistent with earlier statements it published in the 1970s related to “Insulin, whether of chemical or animal origin” (e.g. Hoeh H. Healing: Teaching and Administration. The Bulletin of the Worldwide Church of God and Ambassador College, September 23, 1974, p. 495) and Yellow Fever (e.g. Schroeder D. THE MOST NEGLECTED KEY TO BETTER HEALTH. Plain Truth, January 1977, p. 8). It also taught:
Paul expressed to the Roman Christians: “But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ” (Romans 14:10 ).
And: “Let us not therefore judge one another anymore: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way” (verse 13).
For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s” (verse 8). (Hoeh, p. 495)
Here are statements from the 1980s:
Kevin Dean, who runs the {Youth} camp for the California-based Worldwide Church of God … said. ”It’s the church’s philosophy that God heals,” he added, and some church members may interpret that to mean they cannot receive vaccinations. But the church does not have such a policy, he said. (56 TEEN-AGERS REFUSE MEASLES SHOTS, CITING RELIGIOUS BELIEFS. New York Times, August 19, 1984)
January 1988
Dear Friend:
Thank you for your question regarding vaccinations or immunizations.
This subject has been a concern of many. However, neither the Bible nor the Worldwide Church of God teach that immunization is a sin. … For some people, however, being immunized may be a violation of conscience.
The apostle Paul explained this principle this way: “It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak. Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin” (Rom. 14:21-23, RAV).
So, while the Worldwide Church of God teaches that being immunized is a medical matter and is not sin, it also does not judge those who, because of conscience or personal choice, choose not to be immunized. In either case, it must be a personal decision made by the individual. (Personal Correspondence Department, Worldwide Church of God, 1988)
Speaking of the old Worldwide Church of God, it sent ministers and their wives to various nations in places like Africa that will NOT let one enter without one or more vaccines. Though some seem to think that means that the door to proclaim the gospel to those lands is closed, that is not how the old WCG viewed it nor how the CCOG currently views it (cf. Romans 11:25).
Those positions are consistent with the words of Jesus, who said:
35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. (Mark 8:35)
Jesus (e.g. John 7:1-10) and the Apostle Paul (e.g. Acts 21:7-15) were willing to go into areas that held danger, not to test God, but to reach those they were supposed to reach (e.g. Acts 21:13).
Here is something from the article titled Continuing Church of God position on vaccines:
Vaccines, of themselves, are not bad (though there are risks and the mRNA ones need more testing). …
Some professions and others for various reasons may need to (or be required to) get one or more vaccines or other medical interventions and the Church does not prohibit this.
The Church also holds that we, as a body, are to work to fulfill Jesus’ commissions listed in scriptures such as Matthew 24:14, Matthew 28:19-20, and Mark 16:15. These commissions involve reaching people in all nations. Hence, some individuals may wish to voluntarily receive vaccinations or comply with various medical guidelines which will allow them to travel to support the commission or otherwise support the work.
The Church holds the doctrinal position of “that which is not of faith is sin” (Romans 14:23). Therefore, being immunized/inoculated/vaccinated/medically-treated could constitute sin for someone based on their beliefs.
Because many issues with vaccines and medicines, as well as individual reactions to them, the Church fully supports any members request for exemption from immunization/inoculation/vaccination/medical intervention for his/her self. Church of God members, have requested exemptions from vaccinations (and some other medical procedures) since the 20th century, which is the century that vaccines became more widely used and available. In the Continuing Church of God we do give written requests for religious exemption to vaccines to actual members who request them.
It is not the position of the Church to tell someone if they must or must not receive a vaccine or some other medical intervention.
As the Apostle Paul wrote:
5 … Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. (Romans 14:5)
Yes, the Bible supports individual choice in matters like this.
Count the cost (cf. Luke 14:28) and consider getting wise counsel (Proverbs 11:14) when making a vaccine or non-vaccine decision. When making decisions for children, also be cognizant of local laws.
It has always been my (Bob Thiel’s) view that if, in order to travel for church reasons or perform regular work (e.g. 2 Thessalonians 3:10), etc, my family (or others) would have to get a vaccine, we would consider doing so as we do not consider it biblically prohibited nor is it “the mark of the beast.”
The Bible teaches:
21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:21-22)
It is wise to test vaccines and strive to live life as God intended.
