Auckland: Where Russia is now; Patriarch Kirill: Feminism is the dangerous risk

Here are some of the views of Elliot Auckland on where Russia is today:

April 9, 2013

I have spent the past two years focusing on Russia. I live, travel and work in between London and Moscow giving me a strong understanding of where Russia is today. Russia is a greatly misunderstood country by journalists and investors worldwide. Mafia and bears do not walk the streets like they once did (well only the mafia once did) but neither is it true to say that Russia is a safe and golden land. The unavoidable truth is that Russia is still far behind the rest of the developed and emerging world politically, economically and commercially. The legal system is corrupt, highly inconsistent and far from independence. As a consequence minority shareholders if abused do not have any defence. That being said, do not think that Russia has remained stagnant since its inception 30 years ago. Growth is the highest in the G8, while debt both public and private is lowest. Russia also continues to hold a large portion of high quality commodity assets ranging from diamonds to natural gas. Russia is a great opportunity but should be treated with as much caution as excitement.  http://seekingalpha.com/article/1330481-understanding-where-russia-is-today?source=google_news

Much truly is going on in Russia, and some of it is positive.  Russia is not as backwards as many think, nor as forward as it likes to project.

Something that should be noted is that Russia does play a major leadership role in its part of the world and many nations are aligned with it.  For some details, please see Putin: Leader of the Eurasian Union?

On a religious note, the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church made some comments about feminism affecting Russia:

Feminism is a “very dangerous” phenomenon that could lead to the destruction of Russia, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church has said.

“I consider this phenomenon called feminism very dangerous, because feminist organisations proclaim the pseudo-freedom of women, which, in the first place, must appear outside of marriage and outside of the family,” said Patriarch Kirill, according to the Interfax news agency.  http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/apr/09/feminism-destroy-russia-patriarch-kirill

Russia is still a fairly patriarchal society.  As far as various roles for Christian women, please also read Women and the New Testament Church.

While certain feminist issues like abortion are wrong and do lead to destruction, it is not feminism per se that will destroy Russia in the end.  It will come to its end when Jesus returns.
