Boomers, Gen-Z, Millennials, Gen-Xr’s: The ‘Titanic Struck’ and the Math Doesn’t Work

Charles Hugh Smith wrote the following:

Boomers, Let’s Face It: The Math Doesn’t Work

There are many consequential things we can’t discuss factually because the topic upsets everyone. And since getting upset shuts down any direct discussion of difficult issues, these issues metastasize into problems that end up sinking the ship.

The Titanic has already struck the iceberg and is doomed, but since this upsets the passengers, we dance around the facts rather than take immediate action. Everything about the situation is upsetting, and so emotions dominate the zeitgeist: resentments, blame-game, accusations, the whole self-reinforcing dynamic leads to people shouting at others as they drown.  …

Federal deficit spending and the overweighting of entitlement spending on retirees is too upsetting to discuss factually, so we don’t. But the math doesn’t work, and so the ship will sink. …

Social Security was always a pay as you go system. …  when the program was enacted, there were around 10 workers for every retiree. The demographics and economy were different then. The economy was mostly domestic, and the bubble of the 1920s had popped. Financialization and globalization were at low ebb. Everyone assumed there would always be 10 workers for every retiree.

But people started living longer, the disabled were added to Social Security, and Medicare ballooned from a modest program to an open-ended spending juggernaut. In other words, the economy changed, demographics changed, but the system has not been changed to reflect these realities.  …

Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are 44%. Toss in the other mandatory spending–a big chunk of which is interest paid on federal debt … The vast majority of projected growth in federal spending stems from these programs and the interest paid on funds borrowed to fund them. Unfortunately, these facts don’t disappear because we don’t like them. …

And if that’s the case, then what does this suggest in terms of saving the ship from sinking?

The passengers on the Titanic arguing with each other can’t stop the ship from sinking by “winning the argument.” Silencing those willing to discuss the issues factually doesn’t actually make the factual realities go away.

Boomers–and Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z–let’s face it: the math doesn’t work. … The ship is not just taking on water; it’s loaded with third rails and sacred cows that can’t be touched, and so it’s doomed to sink if we do nothing. 05/20/25 https://charleshughsmith.substack.com/p/boomers-lets-face-it-the-math-doesnt

In his article, Charles Hugh Smith basically calls for benefit cuts and also additional taxes to solve the fact that the current system will otherwise be doomed.

The reality is that because of the debt, and other issues, the math will not work.

Nor is there the political will to cut benefits enough to solve the problem.

And even if the time comes when there is political will to raise taxes enough to try to deal with that, the tax increases will not work well enough for many reasons.

The USA is the most indebted nation in the history of humanity. Rising interest rates increase the debt and look to one day result in a debt spiral that will be a factor in the elimination of the USA!

This increasing of debt cannot go on forever.

While the Trump Administration claims to realize this, its “big, beautiful” budget deal has issues:

May 21, 2025

President Donald Trump’s changes in taxes and other federal policies is indeed big at 1,116 pages. …

Overtime wages, which are treated like regular wages with federal and state income taxes, Social Security and Medicare withholding, would not be taxed if the bill passes. Federal revenue could be reduced by $680 billion to $866 billion from 2025 to 2034 if overtime pay wasn’t taxed, according to a study by the Tax Foundation and Yale’s Budget Lab in April. …

The bill’s provisions would increase the federal deficit by $3.8 trillion from 2026 to 2034, according to the CBO, which cited tax changes, including the extension of the 2017 tax act and its revenues and outlays for refundable credits. https://www.usatoday.com/story/graphics/2025/05/21/winners-losers-trump-big-tax-bill/83744635007/

President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful” tax-and-spending bill could come with a big, ugly cost, economists warn.

Nonpartisan research groups studying the proposal have estimated that it would add more than $2.5 trillion to the federal debt—currently at an all-time high of $36.8 trillion—over the next decade.

Despite those projections, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday insisted that the bill would actually save the federal government $1.6 trillion: “This bill does not add to the deficit,” she told reporters. “It is the largest savings for any legislation that has ever passed Capitol Hill in our nation’s history.” …

The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates that the House bill in its current form will increase debt by $3.3 trillion through 2034, and increase annual deficits by $2.9 trillion to $3.3 trillion. 05/20/25  https://time.com/7286837/what-trumps-big-beautiful-bill-would-do-to-the-national-debt/

Whether one believes the Trump Administration or its critics, the fact is that the budget bill, at least initially, will raise debt.

For decades, several Administrations have pointed to their proposals supposedly balancing the budget or reducing the debt sometime out in the future–but without that happening.

Because the USA is, by and large, a disobedient nation I believe the Bible points to more debt:

43 The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. 44 He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. 45 Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed…47 “Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you. 49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a nation of fierce countenance, which does not respect the elderly nor show favor to the young. 51 And they shall eat the increase of your livestock and the produce of your land, until you are destroyed; they shall not leave you grain or new wine or oil, or the increase of your cattle or the offspring of your flocks, until they have destroyed you. 52 They shall besiege you at all your gates until your high and fortified walls, in which you trust, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you at all your gates throughout all your land which the LORD your God has given you (Deuteronomy 28:43-45,47-52).

7 The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender. (Proverbs 22:7)

13 And the Lord said, “Because they have forsaken My law which I set before them, and have not obeyed My voice, nor walked according to it, 14 but they have walked according to the dictates of their own hearts…16 I will scatter them also among the Gentiles, whom neither they nor their fathers have known. And I will send a sword after them until I have consumed them.” (Jeremiah 9:13,14a,16)

12 One-third of you shall die of the pestilence, and be consumed with famine in your midst; and one-third shall fall by the sword all around you; and I will scatter another third to all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them. (Ezekiel 5:12)

Debt will be a factor leading to the destruction of the United States (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8).

As far as various generations go, notice the following from the Book of Proverbs:

12 There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes,
Yet is not washed from its filthiness.
13 There is a generation — oh, how lofty are their eyes!
And their eyelids are lifted up.
14 There is a generation whose teeth are like swords,
And whose fangs are like knives,
To devour the poor from off the earth,
And the needy from among men.

15 The leech has two daughters —
Give and Give!

There are three things that are never satisfied,
Four never say, “Enough!”: (Proverbs 30:12-15)

It appears that for many USA politicians the debt is never enough.

While there are various generations currently alive, the final generation of the United States includes those that are alive now.

Related to USA debt, we put together the following video:

14:44

And the Debt Goes On …

On June 3, 2023, US President Joe Biden signed a bill to increase the official debt-ceiling of the United States. According to the US Treasury the “ceiling” has been changed, increased, or delayed 78 other times. The official debt has nearly tripled since the Obama-Biden Administration. The official debt increased about $2 trillion per year under Donald Trump’s Administration and has done close to that in the Joe Biden Administration. While the USA has been able to increase debt with limited consequences (like inflation) so far, does the Bible show this can end in destruction? What did God warn about debt through the prophet Habakkuk? Is getting into high amounts of debt a blessing or curse according to the Bible? Do Democrats or Republicans currently have a plan that will now be implemented to pay off the debt? Has the USA been functioning as an international “leech” consistent with statements in the Book of Proverbs? Does the Bible say it is wicked to borrow money you do really intend to repay? Steve Dupuie and Dr. Thiel cover these matters.

Here is a link to our video: And the Debt Goes On …

The current US spending on social programs, interest on the debt, etc. will not end well for the USA.

Consider the following God had Ezekiel write:

13 “Behold, therefore, I beat My fists at the dishonest profit which you have made, and at the bloodshed which has been in your midst. 14 Can your heart endure, or can your hands remain strong, in the days when I shall deal with you? I, the Lord, have spoken, and will do it. 15 I will scatter you among the nations, disperse you throughout the countries, and remove your filthiness completely from you. (Ezekiel 22:13-15)

Borrowing money that will not be paid back is a “dishonest profit” which the American and British peoples have been living on for quite some time. They will be scattered for this and their filthiness (see also Will the Anglo-Nations be Divided?). Sexual immorality and abortion are simply some outward signs of this filthiness.

Punishment, as Ezekiel pointed out, will be more than financial.

God also inspired Ezekiel to write:

1 And you, son of man, take a sharp sword, take it as a barber’s razor, and pass it over your head and your beard; then take scales to weigh and divide the hair. 2 You shall burn with fire one-third in the midst of the city, when the days of the siege are finished; then you shall take one-third and strike around it with the sword, and one-third you shall scatter in the wind: I will draw out a sword after them. 3 You shall also take a small number of them and bind them in the edge of your garment. 4 Then take some of them again and throw them into the midst of the fire, and burn them in the fire. (Ezekiel 5:1-4)

9 And I will do among you what I have never done, and the like of which I will never do again, because of all your abominations. 10 Therefore fathers shall eat their sons in your midst, and sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments among you, and all of you who remain I will scatter to all the winds.

11 ‘Therefore, as I live,’ says the Lord God, ‘surely, because you have defiled My sanctuary with all your detestable things and with all your abominations, therefore I will also diminish you; My eye will not spare, nor will I have any pity. 12 One-third of you shall die of the pestilence, and be consumed with famine in your midst; and one-third shall fall by the sword all around you; and I will scatter another third to all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them. (Ezekiel 5:9-12)

The above seemingly points to 90-99% of the population of the Israelite portion of USA (as well as for its British-descended allies) being destroyed and/or made slaves.

After the Titanic struck an iceberg, it lasted about 2 hours and 40 minutes.

68% of the people who were onboard died. 32% made it to life boats.

Lat’s face it–the math and biblical prophecy show that the days of the USA are numbered and are almost up.

And the survival rate will not be as high as 32%. MAYBE it will be 10%–maybe it will be a lot less.

Even if you believe that Donald Trump will be able to delay the end, don’t wait too long to change as the ship is sinking.
