US President Donald Trump continues to rattle allies and others with his calls to acquire Greenland:

Trump says Greenland will be under US control by the time he leaves office

1 August 2026

President Donald Trump has predicted that Greenland will be under U.S. control by the time he leaves office in January 2029.

Trump has fiercely pushed to acquire the semi-autonomous Danish territory in the Arctic since before he returned to the Oval Office. The globally unpopular move has helped strain America’s relationship with its European allies, who see it as a threat to Greenlanders’ sovereignty.

Real America’s Voice host Steve Gruber told Trump during an audio interview Friday, “I made a prediction on this program that before you left office, that Greenland would be under our operational control.” …

Trump has never let go of his fixation with controlling Greenland. Earlier …, the president posted an edited photo on Truth Social of him showing European leaders in the Oval Office a map of the countries, including Greenland, with an American flag superimposed over them. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-greenland-threats-europe-b3025688.html

Denmark has consistently opposed Donald Trump’s positions on this.  Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated:

I think the position of the Kingdom of Denmark is quite well known, and I will say that the position of the US president is also very well known. Greenland is not for sale, and the people have been very clear: They do not want to be a part of the United States. They have the right to self-determination and we will respect that. And I ask everybody else to show the same respect. As Danish prime minister, I am asking everybody to respect that we are a sovereign state and everybody needs to respect our territorial integrity. https://www.lemonde.fr/en/international/article/2026/07/08/danish-pm-to-trump-greenland-has-been-very-clear-it-does-not-want-to-be-part-of-the-us_6755269_4.html#

Instead of preventing incursions from Russia and China, the following source points to a different USA objective for Greenland:

Greenland in the US Grand Strategy: Keeping the EU and PESCO Out

8 March 2026

There is one objective the US cannot secure in Greenland under the current status quo, and that is to keep out the EU’s newly established defence cooperation, called Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO).

This helps explain why the US seeks full control of Greenland. Other explanations, such as Trump’s personal political ambitions or access to natural resources, can also play a role, but function largely as political noise that obscures the real underlying interests. …

As long as European states depend on US security structures through NATO and US intelligence services, European sovereignty remains limited. PESCO, established in 2017, was designed to alter this dependency. As it expands, it has the potential to develop into a major EU defence and intelligence structure, reducing US influence over European policymaking, and can over time render NATO redundant.

From this perspective, the US focus on annexing Greenland appears central to its long-term strategic interests, and connects decades of efforts to prevent Eurasian integration. …

French President Charles de Gaulle, who described the UK as “a satellite of the United States” and warned that it would serve as “the Trojan horse of the Americans” in the EU.

Nevertheless, the Lisbon Treaty established the framework for PESCO in 2009. The UK continued to oppose its implementation, leaving PESCO dormant and often described by EU policymakers as a “sleeping beauty.” This changed with the Brexit referendum in June 2016. …

PESCO was presented as complementary to NATO, but it was widely viewed by US policymakers as a challenge to NATO and broader US strategic interests. …

PESCO’s access to Greenland can weaken US control over the Arctic-Atlantic region, an area of increasing importance for shipping routes, digital infrastructure, and access between Europe and Asia as climate change makes these routes more viable.

PESCO has expanded relatively rapidly over 10 years, from 17 joint projects to more than 70 joint projects, covering areas such as, military mobility, surveillance, command and control, cyber capabilities, and space-based systems. Several of these projects are directly relevant to the Arctic region, most notably the Arctic Command and Control Effector and Sensor System (ACCESS), indicating a dedicated focus on developing capabilities relevant to the Arctic theatre.

As the EU becomes less dependent on US security structures, it gains greater freedom to pursue independent policies that enable deeper cooperation and economic integration across Eurasia. https://countercurrents.org/2026/03/greenland-in-the-us-grand-strategy-keeping-the-eu-and-pesco-out/

The UK Guardian reported the following earlier this year:

Opposition to US has hardened in western Europe after Greenland threat, poll finds

Large majorities in six nations express antipathy to Trump’s US and support European self-assertion

6 February 2026

Western Europeans prize Europe’s autonomy and values over transatlantic ties and will not give them up to placate Donald Trump, according to a poll suggesting opinions of the US have plunged to their lowest since YouGov began tracking them a decade ago.

The US president’s attempted Greenland grab has succeeded in turning Europeans solidly against his country, the pollster’s latest survey found. Large majorities in Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Great Britain all declared an unfavourable opinion.

The figures, ranging from 62% in France to 84% in Denmark – of which Greenland is a self-governing territory – mark a further steep rise in negative perceptions of the US even since November, when the range was between 49% and 70%.

The polling also showed that in ever-increasing numbers, Europeans no longer see the US as a friendly nation, with fewer respondents in all six countries saying they still consider it an ally. … in July 2023, 80% of Danes said they saw the US as a friend or ally. Now, fewer than 26% do. …  if EU-US ties sour, for more political integration in Europe, giving the EU greater powers and decision-making capacity. Between 46% and 63% support this, significantly more than those who oppose it. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/feb/06/western-europeans-turning-against-us-after-greenland-threat-poll-finds

These are unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s statements and policies.

Related to Greenland, Donald Trump, and Europe, here is something I posted here in January 2025:

Donald Trump’s foreign policy statements have unsettled many—in the USA as well as foreign nations. He is believed by many to be more unpredictable than Richard Nixon. Many have rightly pointed out that he often acts as a bully.

Greenland

There is also something referred to as the “law of unintended consequences.” There are consequences for the USA, Europe, and elsewhere that have and will occur because of Donald Trump’s statements and actions.

Consider, for one example, that after his reelection, Donald Trump stated that the United States needed to have Greenland for defense and economic purposes. Not only did that offend the governments of Denmark and Greenland, the Danish government then announced that it would greatly increase the amount of money it would spend on the defense of Greenland.[i]

On January 7, 2025, Donald Trump refused to rule out military or economic actions to acquire Greenland.[ii] The next day, European leaders warned they would not tolerate an attack on Greenland and that the continent of Europe was strong.[iii] … One longer term consequence of Donald Trump’s rhetoric may be that the Europeans could decide that Greenland would be a useful place to conduct surveillance on the US and Canada.

Additionally, it is also possible that Greenland could be used as a base to 1) interfere with US military satellite communications, 2) possibly neutralize some US military moves in Greenland, or even 3) a place to also launch an attack against the US, Canada, and/or even the UK. The Bible teaches about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2)—some statements by Donald Trump are pushing “friends” (NATO allies) into being enemies. …

The USA will be attacked by “friends” consistent with the following:

How lonely sits the city
That was full of people!

How like a widow is she,
Who was great among the nations!

The princess among the provinces Has become a slave!

2 She weeps bitterly in the night,
Her tears are on her cheeks;
Among all her lovers
She has none to comfort her.

All her friends have dealt treacherously with her;
They have become her enemies. cf. Lamentations 1:1-2).

Notice the one who was “great among the nations” will be conquered by friends, who will become enemies.

The USA was prophesied to be “great” in Genesis 48:19 and is considered by international sources to be great among the nations of the world today.[v]

Yes, the Bible teaches about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2). Donald Trump offending the Europeans is leading to that.

Europe had basically no military interest in Greenland before Donald Trump’s statements and threats.

Now, it has put some troops there and looks like it will use or build military bases there.

The cited poll also pointed to Europeans wanting more integration if relations with the USA continue to sour. The Bible makes it clear that Europe will reorganize:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

Donald Trump is helping, at least indirectly, to set the stage for that.

That poll, as well as others, also found that Europe wants more independence from the United States.

Many of their leaders want military independence from the USA.

Related to that, we put out the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:

European Union wants to be militarily independent of the USA – check, European Union wants a larger military – check, European Union wants nukes – check, European Union wants this for defensive purposes –will Europe acquire a great army? Will Europe defeat the Biblical King of the South? Is Europe the King of the North? Will Europe defeat the King(s) from the east? Here’s a big question – will Europe conquer the United States of America? Is the United State of America mentioned in the Bible? These are fascinating questions that will be answered in the very near future. The fact that these conflicts will occur is a certainty, as they are a prophesied fact in the Bible in the book of Daniel. But when will these conflicts occur? Daniel was told to shut up the words, they were for the time of the end. Dan 12:4: ‘But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.’ We are there. This is the time of the end. Dr. Thiel will shine the light on the answers to these questions. One answer, in particular, is sure to stun thousands.

Donald Trump is succeeding in setting up the fulfillment of Lamentations 1:1-2.
