Global hunger? Snowfalls are record lows in the Himalayas–famine potential?

The UK Guardian published the following:

US-Israel war on Iran driving historic levels of global hunger, UN says

27 May 2026

The continuing US-Israel war on Iran has compounded other global disasters to drive record numbers of people into hunger at a time when funding to combat famine has fallen dramatically, the deputy head of the UN World Food Programme has said.

The WFP says 363 million people around the world are now at risk of acute hunger, 45 million of them as a result of conflict in the Middle East and the consequent oil price spike. …

The two famines declared in 2025 were in Gaza and Sudan. The situation in Gaza has improved slightly since the October ceasefire, while Sudan continues to be the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with pockets of famine persisting in parts of Darfur and South Kordofan. …

The war and the Hormuz closure have had several effects on global hunger and the WFP’s capacity to prevent people from dying from famine. Most directly, it drives up food prices, mostly because of transport costs.

“The price of food and energy is so closely correlated that in some places if the price of energy goes up 30%, food inflation almost meets that,” Skau said. “In a least developed country, amongst the most vulnerable, they’re already spending all their money on food, and so that means they eat 30% or 40% less.”

The spike in oil prices also directly affects WFP efforts to get food to the most desperately hungry. More of its operating costs have to go towards transport, and some aid routes have been blocked. https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2026/may/27/us-israel-war-on-iran-driving-historic-levels-of-global-hunger-un-says

More at risk for hunger and food price inflation. There are also impacts of fertilizer because of the Iran war (see Fertilizer shortage expected to result in food shortages &, food price inflation. What about starvation and famine?).

After Russia began its Special Military Operation into Ukraine in 2022, there also began to be shortages of fertilizer (see ‘Fertilizer Prices Continue Rising, Increasing Fears of Global Grain Costs and Shortages’). Then we saw a return of food price inflation (see Food Inflation: World Food Prices Jump Most In 18 Months). Well, around that time, there appears to have been a reduction of snowfall in the Himalayas.

A reader forwarded me the following:

2 Billion People at Risk

While the world focuses on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz , something far more serious is unfolding right now in the “Water Tower of Asia.”The Himalayan snow drought of 2026 is not just another weather story. It is a direct warning. Snow persistence has plunged to the lowest levels in over 20 years, and ten of the twelve major river basins that feed nearly two billion people are running dangerously low. Record heat in India is accelerating the crisis, and the first signs of the prophetic famine cycles we have been warning about for years have now begun.
Once the water dries up, then the famine begins.
These rivers — the Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra, Mekong, Yangtze, and others — sustain the nations where the vast multitude of Revelation 7 will one day emerge from. …

I need not remind most of you that we have been expecting the Two Witnesses to begin thier work this fall in 2026. They are also going to shut down the heavens so that it does not rain. …

Yehshua said that before He comes back Elijah would restore all things. The trouble is no one knows what has to be restored, nor are they looking for anyone who might be doing that.

Before going further, let me flat out state that the two witnesses will NOT begin their 3 1/2 work in 2026. That is much too early. For details as to why, check out the article: When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?

And as far as restoration goes, that has been happening in the Continuing Church of God. To learn more on that, check out the following:

As far as the Himalayas go, yes, this reduction in snowfall has been happening for some time as the following also confirms:

Ganga basin hits 23-year low as Himalayan region spirals into 3rd year of shrinking snowfall

Indus sees steepest 5-year drop, Mekong & Salween lose over 50% snow. ICIMOD urges urgent basin-level action, adaptive infrastructure & regional cooperation to avert drought crisis.

In a concerning development, the Ganga Basin has recorded its lowest level of snow persistence in 23 years, according to a new report by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). Highlighting a worrying pattern of diminishing snowfall, the report also revealed that this marks the third consecutive year in which the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region has experienced below-normal snowfall. 04/21/26 https://theprint.in/environment/ganga-basin-hits-23-year-low-as-himalayan-region-spirals-into-3rd-year-of-shrinking-snowfall/2597690/

Other areas also look to be impacted by drought:

From Somalia to Switzerland and the Himalayas: drought is becoming a growing threat

Nearly 62,000 people have been forced to leave their land in Somalia because of drought. The alarm was raised by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which reports that three out of every four new displacements are now caused by lack of rainfall. This figure is up 22 per cent compared to last year, “confirming the growing severity of climate chaos” the IOM itself stated.

The worst situation is currently being recorded in five provinces — Baidoa, Dayniile, Kahda, Diinsoor and Doolow. Overall, another 125,000 people are expected to flee drought conditions during the second quarter of this year alone.

“When water disappears, when crops fail and livelihoods are lost, the only option left is to leave. Without rapid action, drought will continue to increase vulnerability and worsen hunger across Somalia,” said Manuel Pereira, IOM chief of mission in the African nation. …

Western Switzerland and the northern part of Ticino are currently experiencing severe drought conditions. The risk of forest fires has already reached level 4 out of 5, indicating “high danger.” …

On the other side of the world, insufficient rainfall conditions are also being recorded in the Himalayas. Until the end of January, no snow fell across the entire state of Uttarakhand, which hosts an important part of the mountain range. Similarly, neighboring Himachal Pradesh experienced its sixth driest year on record between 2025 and 2026. The snow deficit reached 40 per cent in Kashmir and 70 per cent in Ladakh. 04/30/26 https://www.lifegate.com/somalia-swiss-himalaya-korea-drought

Food price inflation will increase.

Michael Snyder posted the following:

Everybody Is Talking About The Cost Of Gasoline – Soon Everybody Will Be Talking About The Cost Of Food

For most people, the price of gasoline is the most obvious consequence of the war in the Middle East. As I write this article, the average price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States is $4.56. Of course in some parts of the country consumers are paying much more than that. This is a big story, and the truth is that gasoline prices are going to go even higher in the months ahead. But if you think that the price of gasoline is bad, just wait until you see what eventually happens to food prices. The price of diesel has been rising even faster than the price of regular gasoline, and fertilizer prices have been absolutely skyrocketing. Those costs will get passed along to the rest of us. It is just a matter of time. Meanwhile, our farmers are dealing with drought conditions that are unprecedented and now a “Super El Niño” is coming. 05/21/26 https://www.shtfplan.com/economics/everyone-talks-about-the-cost-of-gasoline-soon-everyone-will-be-talking-about-the-cost-of-food

Food price inflation is associated with the ride of the third horseman of the Apocalypse:

5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” (Revelation 6:5-6)

Related to food inflation, years ago, we put together the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:

12:03

Food Inflation & the 3rd Horseman of the Apocalypse

The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, UN’s FAO, and others are reporting food price inflation as well as often selected shortages of some food items. Might it get worse? Did Jesus prophesy famines? One analyst stated, “WE haven’t seen anything yet” in regards to rising food prices. Should Christians prepare? What about helping others? Does the ride of the third horseman of the Apocalypse (Revelation 6:5-6) point to a coming time of severe food inflation. Is more food price inflation coming? Dr. Thiel addresses these issues and more in this video.

Here is a link to the video: Food Inflation & the 3rd Horseman of the Apocalypse.

Many in the West have no concerns about these matters.

But won’t God provide since the Bible says…

3 “The LORD will not allow the righteous soul to famish” (Proverbs 10:3)?

Yes, He will, but look at the next verses:

4 He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich. 5 He who gathers in the summer is a wise son; He who sleeps in harvest is a son of shame” (Proverbs 10:4-5).

So, the Bible speaks well of those who gather in the seasons when they can.

God also has let some of His people experience hunger and famines in the New Testament (Acts 11:28-29; 1 Corinthians 11:21; 2 Corinthians 11:27; Romans 15:25-26; James 2:15-16; ) as well as after (see also: Pionius of Smyrna).

Notice also something from the New Testament:

10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. 11 For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. 12 Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread. (2 Thessalonians 3:10-12)

You are not just to sit around and expect others to take care of you.

As far as preparations go, the Bible teaches:

6 Go to the ant, you sluggard!
Consider her ways and be wise,
7 Which, having no captain,
Overseer or ruler,
8 Provides her supplies in the summer,
And gathers her food in the harvest.
9 How long will you slumber, O sluggard?
When will you rise from your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to sleep —
11 So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler,
And your need like an armed man. (Proverbs 6:6-11).

15 “Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger” (Proverbs 19:15).

4 The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing. (Proverbs 20:4)

24 … they are exceedingly wise: 25 The ants are a people not strong, Yet they prepare their food in the summer; (Proverbs 30:24-25)

As most of you are well aware, the Bible warns of food shortages and pestilences. Nearly 2000 years ago, Jesus taught:

7…And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:7-8)

We seem to be in the time Jesus called “the beginning of sorrows.”

But prior to Jesus return,”there will be great tribulation” as Jesus foretold (Matthew 24:21).
