Iran, Russia, and China declared that the Iranian nuclear deal known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action had expired and is now dead:
Iran, Russia, China send letter to UN declaring nuclear deal with Tehran terminated

Iran, Russia, and China sent a letter Saturday to the UN secretary-general and the Security Council, declaring that the nuclear deal with Tehran has been terminated, effectively ending the Council’s consideration of the Iranian nuclear issue.
The three countries criticized the UK, France, and Germany, known as the E3, for what they described as a “legally and procedurally flawed” attempt to trigger the snapback mechanism to reimpose UN sanctions on Iran under UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
“The attempt by the E3 to trigger the so-called ‘snapback’ is by default legally and procedurally flawed,” said the letter, adding that the European parties, “having themselves ceased to perform their commitments under both the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action ) and Resolution 2231, lack the standing to invoke its provisions.”
The letter reaffirmed that “in accordance with operative paragraph 8 of Resolution 2231, all its provisions are terminated after Oct. 18, 2025,” stressing that “the full and timely conclusion of Resolution 2231 marks the end of the Security Council’s consideration of the Iranian nuclear issue and contributes to strengthening the authority of the Council and the credibility of multilateral diplomacy.” …

Tehran Declares No Longer Bound by Nuclear Deal
The 10-year nuclear deal between Iran and world powers expired on Saturday, with Tehran announcing it is no longer bound by the 2015 agreement.
From now on, “all of the [2015 deal] provisions, including the restrictions on the Iranian nuclear program and the related mechanisms, are considered terminated,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement, adding, however, that the Islamic Republic remains committed to diplomacy, Agence France-Presse reported.

So, Iran believes it is no longer restricted from taking whatever military and nuclear steps that it may wish to pursue.
Might Iran pursue a nuclear bomb?
Yes.
Consider that last Spring, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, promised to acquire a nuclear weapon if attacked by the United States or its allies (https://www.france24.com/en/asia-pacific/20250401-iran-will-have-no-choice-but-to-get-nukes-if-attacked-khamenei-adviser-usa-trump-nuclear-weapons-deal-bombing-threats). Iran was later attacked by Israel and then the United States.
Iran is not really at peace with Israel.
The Book of Isaiah points to an Iranian confederation causing great damage to Jerusalem (Isaiah 22:6-9)–we are getting closer to the fulfillment of that prophecy.
Such damage may cause Israel to retaliate, and perhaps even dropping one or more nuclear bombs on Iran.
With that in mind, consider the following Roman Catholic writings:

Some have suggested that “after socialism” may mean after communism falls, like it mainly did in the late 20th century. We are getting towards the end of this age right now.
The “atrocious crime” could refer to an attack (possibly nuclear) by Israel or some other Israeli action. Or perhaps a combination of factors.
This could happen in 2025 or 2026.

European Union foreign policy chief, Josep Borrel, has been brokering the nuclear negotiations involving Iran and said that he thinks the deal is “in danger.” Iran blames the United States, whereas the USA says they are not delaying it. Israeli sources stated that Israel will stop Iran from getting a nuclear bomb. Joe Biden says the USA would use its own military power to prevent Iran from getting such a bomb if need be. In 2021, Iranian lawmakers have submitted a bill seeking the government by law to commit to Israel’s destruction by the year 2040. Does the 22nd chapter of Isaiah point to damage coming to Israel from Iran and possibly Syria? Might Iran be concerned enough about limited progress with the USA to launch some type of attack? Is Iran the prophesied ‘King of the South’? Is it reasonable to think that the prophesied peace deal of Daniel 9:27 will not happen until after a military conflict. like a regional war?
